22:48:31 <ynpvisitor80> if lightning lasted a little longer, it would be so much easier to see geysers...
23:03:49 <ynpvisitor80> no OF when I was online
23:32:57 <ynpvisitor50> est news
02:00:49 <Betty> hi DGInc
02:00:57 <DGInc> hi Betty
02:01:22 <Betty> time for BH
02:02:08 <DGInc> yep, although I hope it waits for day time
02:02:35 <DGInc> or around 0430
02:03:00 <Betty> lets see what happens
02:03:06 <DGInc> yep
02:03:15 <Betty> a bit more light would be helpful
02:03:24 <DGInc> indeed
02:07:52 <Betty> was that lightning?
02:08:19 <DGInc> where? I didn't saw it, was busy doing other stuff
02:08:39 <Betty> to the left
02:08:58 <DGInc> just saw it too, very likely it was lightning
02:10:30 <DGInc> yesterday's F&M was I think without event cycle
02:11:30 <Betty> Dave saw F&M
02:16:19 <DGInc> looks like it's still thundering at Yellowstone
02:21:22 <DGInc> thought I just saw a Beehive splash
02:23:32 <Betty> OF
02:23:47 <DGInc> yep, finally
02:24:27 <DGInc> wow, that lightning
02:25:04 <DGInc> again

02:29:07 <DGInc> Daisy is a little more to the right
02:29:09 <DGInc> left*
02:30:38 <DGInc> I don't think we'll see a lot of in-basin reports this morning
02:31:40 <Betty> you really don´t want to be outside in a thunderstorm at that elevation
02:31:55 <DGInc> that's for sure
02:33:40 <Betty> weird light right now
02:33:57 <DGInc> wow, may have struck the ground
02:34:13 <Betty> I´d love to have sound right now
02:34:29 <DGInc> me too
02:47:17 <DGInc> wow, lightning really likes to bright up the UGB
02:47:46 <Betty> yep
02:48:07 <DGInc> I don;t have any complains about it =)
03:01:45 <DGInc> Oblong?
03:02:23 <Betty> or Turban
03:02:58 <DGInc> did lightning just struck right in front of the webcam?
03:03:50 <Betty> that sure would have crashed the power of the cam. think not
03:04:10 <DGInc> at least it's above GHG
03:04:24 <Betty> yeah
03:04:30 <DGInc> UGB, to be more precise...
03:08:04 <DGInc> Indy ie? or just some spashes?
03:08:37 <Betty> no indy as I see
03:08:51 <DGInc> no, guess just splashing
03:11:45 <DGInc> here's a radar https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/WYNPYELL:13:US?animation=true&layer=radarConus&zoom=8
03:15:34 <DGInc> wow, purple lightning
03:23:11 <Betty> maybe Turban again
03:23:23 <DGInc> maybe
03:33:29 <Betty> Depression ie
03:42:02 <Betty> Beehive looks quiet now. Hope we did not miss it
03:43:11 <DGInc> hope so too
03:43:38 <Betty> Lion is heating up
03:43:45 <DGInc> yep
03:44:59 <Betty> looks oblongish now

03:57:50 <DGInc> Riverside?
03:58:04 <Betty> could be
03:58:24 <DGInc> looks like Castle is about to erupt
04:03:23 <Betty> huge steam above the trees now
04:03:50 <DGInc> maybe Rocket major?
04:04:58 <Betty> think Rocket is not that big
04:05:13 <DGInc> oh

04:51:00 <DGInc> bye
04:51:31 <Graham> not such a nice day
04:52:03 <Graham> 30 min between prior Turban and Grand
04:52:26 <DGInc> well, this is nothing compared with what happened a few hours before civil twilight
05:01:04 <Graham> what happened then?
05:01:43 <DGInc> there were a few ligtning strikes that made it so the geyser basin on the webcam was like daytime or completely white
05:01:59 <Graham> Jake posting Dome times in the park, didnt know he was there
05:02:23 <Graham> black clouds coming in now
05:02:28 <DGInc> Castle 0700

15:08:58 <David A pdx> thanks! time for the afternoon Session!
15:09:05 <Biddle> David, you should write a wikipedia article on sprinkler :P
15:10:18 <David A pdx> LOL!
15:10:35 <David A pdx> oh?! Am I the resident expert on Sprinkler or something?
15:10:43 <David A pdx> LOL
15:11:25 <Biddle> I think so.
15:11:52 <David A pdx> are we going to have another BH & LC duet?!
15:12:34 <Biddle> I was looking around wikipeadia earlier today, and saw there was no Sprinkler Geyser article. I was about to make one, then realized that i am not an expert.
15:12:50 <Biddle> big splashes
15:12:51 <ynpvisitor100> Sure, BH is the tuba to LC's harmonica
15:13:06 <David A pdx> LOL!
15:13:29 <David A pdx> hhmmm, I'll have to look at Wikipedia and check it out.
15:13:39 <Biddle> BH is the Maynard Ferguson to LC's Stan Kenton... The more jazz inclined of you will get my reference
15:13:50 <ynpvisitor560> I like harmonicas
15:14:02 <David A pdx> the jazz reference went over my head. sorry
15:14:46 <Biddle> No problem. my jazz references go over most peoples heads. (i am a bit obsessed)
15:14:48 <David A pdx> but, throwing in Lion ...
15:14:52 <Michael> .
15:14:54 <ynpvisitor82> I read up on Sprinkler in GofY- did you ever see that vent closer to the river erupting too?
15:15:18 <David A pdx> no. I think the river level is still a bit high for that right now.
15:15:19 <Michael> Reposting: There is a GOSA transactions article on Sprinkler, by Gordon Bower. IIRC he took note of when it was and wasn't erupting, then used statistical analysis to try to infer the typical interval and duration.
15:15:46 <Michael> Think my computer ate the first post.
15:16:19 <ynpvisitor82> Think you need to sit there with binoculars or a spotting scope next time!
15:16:22 <kcmule> too many walking by.. not a single person on the bench
15:16:32 <ynpvisitor100> Ha! I wonder if it has changed at all since then
15:16:45 <David A pdx> cool. I'll have to look at it. Is it from 1993 that Bryan refers to?
15:17:33 <David A pdx> don't really need binoculars, but a time lapse camera would be fun!
15:18:19 <David A pdx> i didn't notice water in the crater before it erupted, but I know it was there when it was erupting, and drained as activity subsided.
15:18:52 <Michael> From the GOSA website, it's in Trasanctions VI (1998)
15:19:04 <David A pdx> awesome! thanks for the reference.
15:20:12 <David A pdx> Personally I think it is a fun geyser - and it is too bad it is so far away from a bw.
15:21:28 <Michael> It is a playful one. Just a little too far and too frequent to attract gazers' attention.
15:21:56 <David A pdx> yep.
15:22:34 <David A pdx> It sounds like the intervals are about the same and the height is about the same as well.
15:23:22 <David A pdx> it's hard to judge height from that distance, but I guessed closed to 10', but could have been influenced by comment in Bryan's book.
15:23:58 <kcmule> BH
15:24:00 <David A pdx> boom
15:24:03 <Michael> I'd venture that Cliff Geyser is Sprinkler's larger sibling.
15:24:35 <David A pdx> someone is getting wet!
15:25:11 <Michael> Those umbrellas are getting a workout!
15:25:29 <David A pdx> uh huh!
15:25:32 <ynpvisitor100> From rain and BH
15:25:52 <David A pdx> you get drenched in BH fallout... that's a tropical type deluge
15:26:38 <ynpvisitor100> Wonder why they lined up over there?
15:27:01 <David A pdx> why'd the chicken cross the road?
15:27:35 <ynpvisitor21> At this point I don't think BH rain will make a difference.
15:27:39 <ynpvisitor100> Most gazers figure it out before it erupts
15:28:02 <David A pdx> and once you've been drenched by it you know it!
15:28:34 <David A pdx> my first was a drenching...
15:28:38 <ynpvisitor100> Glad it was not raining during Grand
15:28:54 <David A pdx> i had a big silly grin on my face for awhile after that though
15:30:03 <ynpvisitor82> Michael - I am wondering how many geysers start empty and quit when full?
15:32:47 <Michael> Interesting thought. Not too many cone-type geysers. Will think about it a bit.
15:36:20 <David A pdx> It seems as if Sprinkler is a bit independent of other geysers, It seems, on my brief experience, it seems so, but in a write up that will have to be qualified, unless anyone else has some experience there??
15:36:59 <David A pdx> and what about when the river is lower? any change there?
15:37:05 <David A pdx> so many questions.
15:37:28 <David A pdx> it seems to know we are talking about it!!
15:40:44 <Michael> Can't come up with too many geysers that start from a completely empty hole, then fill up. Sawmill and Tardy can do it when they go during the "drain" part of the cycle.
15:41:18 <Michael> Shell Spring in Buiscit Basin came to mind. In part because they showed footage of it in the video Biddle linked.
15:41:36 <Michael> Biscuit. Spelling got creative there.
15:42:03 <Biddle> Anemone?
15:42:21 <Michael> Yeah, I'd count Anemone.
15:42:46 <ynpvisitor21> Echinus
15:43:00 <Biddle> today's BH will be on FB shortly
15:43:29 <ynpvisitor27> cliff yes, echinus no
15:44:12 <Michael> Geysers that go in series, the follow-up can come from an empty hole.
15:45:45 <ynpvisitor27> ok
15:45:58 <Biddle> like Grand in David Schwarz's video. ill find the link
15:46:01 <David A pdx> thanks! very interesting information.
15:46:31 <Biddle> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7Ie05P2Sgc
15:47:01 <Michael> I don't have any info on Sprinkler. No reason to believe it is connected to other features. Haven't paid enough attention to see if there are river effects.
15:48:25 <David A pdx> hopefully people will add information - at least more than 'ie'.
15:48:56 <David A pdx> add information over time that includes notes on behavior, etc.
15:53:11 <David A pdx> i'm going to sign off for now. bbl
15:53:20 <Biddle> bye
15:55:59 <ynpvisitor21> 24 hour precip for UGB is .44".
