06:17:14 <ynpvisitor18> Something between two trees on left
06:17:42 <ynpvisitor8> Aurum likely
06:37:22 <Dave from B> Good morning
06:37:35 <ynpvisitor8> morning
06:37:38 <Dave from B> I just noticed Grand Prismatic Overlook opened yesterday
06:38:45 <ynpvisitor18> Yeah, glad to see something "official" is open
06:38:59 <ynpvisitor18> I know some folks aren't "thrilled" about the new parking lot
06:44:54 <ynpvisitor30> Sign of things to come? https://www.reviewjournal.com/life/travel/zion-national-park-considers-reservation-system-for-entry/
06:50:50 <ynpvisitor18> Yup I would guarantee this is a done deal now, public comment usually means nothing
06:51:13 <Dave from B> I can't believe they put 72 spots in that tiny lot
06:51:58 <Dave from B> Kevin, what options does Zion have? Limiting visitors is a precendent I would rather not see set anymore in the park system.
06:52:10 <Dave from B> anywhere*
06:53:10 <ynpvisitor18> How about a reservation system for non-US citizens or increase park fee's but offer a discount for US citizens
06:53:47 <ynpvisitor18> Park visitation is up but curious about the demographics of why/who is coming
06:54:14 <Kevin L™> I know it has become a real problem. I haven't been into the park for probably 10 years. Last time i went in it was so crowded you couldn't do much.
06:55:06 <Dave from B> Is there a slower seaosn at Zion where people could be encouraged to go at that time?
06:55:36 <Kevin L™> Sounds like they are doing something with the roads leading up to the park. I got a message from a R/W agent from UDOT wanting to talk to us about taking some more of our land up there.
06:55:59 <Kevin L™> Zion is much slower in the winter. Fall is my favorite season there.
06:56:45 <Kevin L™> I don't know if it can be done anymore, but Zion under a full moon is incredible (as is Bryce Canyon).
06:58:18 <Kevin L™> It can get pretty hot there too. About 40 years ago I was there doing some hiking and it got well over 100. I hadn't expected that. When I made it back to the river, I just jumped in.
06:59:45 <ynpvisitor999> OF
07:00:51 <Dave from B> A beautiful part of the country
07:01:09 <Dave from B> Clark Murray had some good video of some nice Giantess boiling yesterday
07:01:15 <Kevin L™> Would you believe my temp here is 76° right now?
07:01:55 <Dave from B> You have me neat by 4 degrees
07:02:00 <Dave from B> beat*
07:03:08 <Kevin L™> Had an incredible storm this morning. Rained so hard I couldn't see my back fence.
07:04:35 <Dave from B> I figured there was a reason for only 76 this morning
07:10:28 <ynpvisitor999> BTW, the 0857 Old Faithful was a short, according to the NPS
07:19:38 <Eric> Morning Guys!
07:19:50 <ynpvisitor999> Morning Eric
07:19:55 <Eric> Hi DG
07:20:25 <Kevin L™> Morning
07:21:08 <Eric> Hi Kevin
07:21:22 <Eric> Glad we could get this page back up and running :-D
07:22:19 <ynpvisitor18> What ended up being the root cause?
07:22:51 <Kevin L™> That is nice. Sure hope they can finally get the cam done. I suspect it is going to require a new control program and presets.
07:41:18 <ynpvisitor76> DG your Aurum entry got flagged
07:41:57 <ynpvisitor999> fixed
07:42:25 <ynpvisitor999> SC ie
07:42:44 <Jimbo Gold> Hey you
07:44:10 <ynpvisitor999> morning Jimbo 79
07:44:36 <Jimbo Gold> Hello
07:47:26 <Dave from B> Morning all those who slept in this morning
08:05:27 <ynpvisitor999> OF
08:13:07 <Eric> Sorry 18...was MIA. There were a couple issues that caused the server being down. One being the Hosts backbone was having issues and a secondary problem was causing the server to not come up fully when rebooted.
08:14:27 <ynpvisitor18> ty
08:15:09 <Eric> The team is definitely working to make sure this never happens again.
09:27:57 <ynpvisitor100> Kevin, looks like the rain may not be over for you. And i thought it never rained in Vegas.
09:33:15 <ynpvisitor100> Zion's fix is simple. Make sure the park is open year round with full services, and charge more for peek season, like lots more to get people to go in off season.
09:33:56 <ynpvisitor100> From what I read, their fix will not work as they do not want to be fully open all year.
09:34:29 <ynpvisitor100> Unless I read wrong, or it was written wrong.
09:35:09 <ynpvisitor100> And if you have 4 million paying customers, why would you not have the money for repairs and upgrades?
09:35:46 <ynpvisitor100> But these are the same people that take months to replace a camera on a tree.
10:11:26 <ynpvisitor67> in all fairness, it has not even been one month yet, that the cam has been down
10:29:04 <ynpvisitor100> I was thinking someone would point that out. I was refering to the last time it was down for months. I recal maybe 5 years ago. Related to the new VEC i believe.
10:30:20 <ynpvisitor100> Odd that a system so dedicated to OF that it must ignore more spectacular things has so little importance when it needs to be fixed. A typical government contradiction.
10:31:02 <Casey> Just read the chat logs about Zion. I had a similar experience with heat there. It hit 106 one day I was there, so we changed our plans and spent the day in the narrows.
10:32:31 <ynpvisitor100> I feel bad for Kevin. I am sure he depends on the volunteer pay. Well ok he does not get paid, however now he has time for trains and that must cost extra.
10:40:17 <Casey> Looks like we may have just lost ynpvisitor100, but the comment about geysers being "more spectacular" made me wonder, how far down your list of spectacular geysers would OF be? Which geysers would be considered more spectacular?
10:45:39 <ynpvisitor9> Beehive, Fan & Mortar, Giant, Giantess, Morning Excelsior (if it erupted), Steamboat (which does erupt sometimes) - there are a few - Superburst of Great Fountain or a blue bubbleof Great Fountain. A beautiful still OF early or a sunset OF is still spectacular of course.
10:46:27 <ynpvisitor9> And Fountain
10:48:35 <ynpvisitor18> Grand
10:48:40 <ynpvisitor18> Riverside
10:48:50 <ynpvisitor18> Tilts Baby ;)
10:48:52 <Eric> SC is awesome!
10:49:10 <ynpvisitor18> I think OF would be more spectacular if you weren't so far away
10:49:27 <ynpvisitor9> meant to put Grand. thanks 18 and Riverside is wonderful at sunset
10:49:31 <ynpvisitor18> I was sitting out at BH one night all alone and you could CLEARLY hear an OF start.
10:50:00 <Eric> I love the basin in the evening/night
10:50:18 <ynpvisitor18> Oblique/Avalanche
10:53:59 <ynpvisitor67> looks like F & M is not coming back to any regularity
10:55:11 <Casey> After that comment, I suspect F&M will erupt today.
10:58:30 <ynpvisitor18> F&M seemed to have A LOT of event cycles the day of/before the last couple eruptions
10:58:47 <ynpvisitor18> Seems that either no one is down there or it's just not doing anything worth posting to GT
10:59:18 <ynpvisitor18> I'm OK with less F&M if the energy shifts towards Giant ;)
11:00:05 <ynpvisitor67> Hey, if I can help F & M erupt I am all for it...
11:01:05 <ynpvisitor18> Can someone just go find a seismograph and kick it to fool the geysers please ;)
11:03:45 <Casey> If everyone at OF jumped and landed at the same time, would that cause enough vibration?
11:04:47 <ynpvisitor999> maybe enough to break the boardwalk, but I don't think more than that though
11:57:55 <ynpvisitor18> Nice two rockets
12:11:27 <Betty> good afternoon all
12:21:22 <ynpvisitor999> evening Betty
12:30:35 <Casey> Hi Betty
12:35:36 <Betty> evening, DGInc and hi Casey
12:46:31 <Casey> Conversation sure is slow when the cam is down
12:47:14 <Betty> yes, unfortunately it is :-(
12:47:41 <Betty> but I get a lot of things done ;-)
13:14:25 <Kent> OF interval remains interesting.
13:28:45 <Betty> OF ie
13:29:16 <Kent> I am told the logistical implications for the UGB of a 90" vs 100" interval are large.
13:29:18 <Betty> oh, I had a frozen image
13:29:35 <Kent> :) been there
13:29:55 <Betty> hey Kent :-) how are you?
13:30:15 <Kent> good & U?
13:30:50 <Betty> only 4 weeks to the park :-D I´m veeery fine
13:30:57 <Kent> !
13:55:47 <Betty> enjoy your evening. Goodnight
13:56:05 <Kent> Night

14:52:41 <Andrew> next week
14:54:19 <Eric> Hi Andrew
14:54:36 <Andrew> hi
14:54:40 <Eric> I think you would be a wise person watching it then :-D
14:55:11 <Andrew> I plan to do an early wake up on saturday morning
14:56:24 <Andrew> bear spray, big flashlight, folcing bike and a hunger
16:15:56 <ynpvisitor22> F&M people should be happy, if they were there.
16:23:32 <Eric> 12 people listed as observers on FT entry :-)
16:23:38 <Eric> GT entry
16:24:59 <Eric> OF ie
16:25:11 <Eric> apparently BH ie too
