05:50:05 <ynpvisitor69> Apparently Vault has overflowed sometime overnight
05:51:10 <ynpvisitor999> morning Kevin
05:51:53 <Kevin L™> Hi
06:08:08 <ynpvisitor94> Thats strange
06:08:19 <ynpvisitor94> I'd assume a Giantess Eruption would be loud enough to stir folks in the cabins?
06:10:15 <ynpvisitor999> Maybe Vault does things this time 6 hours before the start of Giantess instead of six hours after the start?
06:14:48 <ynpvisitor999> Something was erupting between the left two trees
06:15:38 <ynpvisitor999> Aurum according to in-basin report
06:19:52 <Einsteinium> Jimbo Einsteinium wouldn't fit
06:26:05 <ynpvisitor999> And 'Es' didn't fit either?
06:55:15 <joethermop> Is this the week for cam replacement, or will we have to wait until August or September?
06:58:35 <ynpvisitor94> You'd think the webcam was being installed by GRRM
06:58:56 <ynpvisitor94> George R.R. Martin
07:01:10 <joethermop> Looks as if the park servive operates similar to Congress :)
07:01:37 <joethermop> service*
07:08:19 <ynpvisitor48> I wonder why the lightning didn
07:08:37 <ynpvisitor48> t strike the Inn?
07:11:32 <joethermop> They Have ground Rods on the building that mostly eliminates static buildup.
07:12:29 <ynpvisitor999> If they only put a lightning rod at the top of the tree where the webcam sits on...
07:12:45 <ynpvisitor999> is attached to*
07:13:12 <ynpvisitor94> I mean lightning hit the ground on split cone
07:13:31 <ynpvisitor94> That's not very high at all. I think the whole idea that lightning will strike the tallest object isn't always the case
07:13:47 <ynpvisitor94> You'd think it would hit taller things but there is hit the bare ground
07:14:07 <ynpvisitor48> So the strike we saw the photo of was not the one that did the damage?
07:14:26 <Kevin L™> Nope
07:15:08 <ynpvisitor48> I wondering if Split Cone is a better conductor than the Inn?
07:15:49 <Kevin L™> It has to be. That is the 3rd strike in that area that I am aware of.
07:16:01 <ynpvisitor999> If so, we should put SC on top of the new webcam to prevent lightning to hit it
07:16:38 <Kent> So the cam is safer on top of the Inn than in a live pine tree? :)
07:16:46 <ynpvisitor94> I believe the mineral content/makeup of the ground too has something to do with it
07:17:23 <ynpvisitor999> Lion's a decent conductor too. I've seen lightning hit Lion twice in probably one thunder storm
07:18:45 <Kevin L™> I was at Arty once during a horrible storm. Lightning was hitting all around us. Not a fun time.
07:25:10 <ynpvisitor999> Geyserite is composed out of silicon and oxygen. Silicon is a metalloid and is able to conduct electricity.
07:35:58 <ynpvisitor...> Lots of stuff here I did not know, but that is not unusual:
07:44:02 <Eric> nice link, thanks
07:47:28 <Eric> Hey on Park Social Channels and shoot out an email to the park service letting them know how much you miss the cam. I think kind, gental pressure from many people helps remind them that there are lots of people who miss watching it every day.
07:49:06 <ynpvisitor10> Maybe this will cure my addiction
07:53:57 <ynpvisitor94> People at work think I'm less crazy now that I don't have the webcam up 24x7
07:57:35 <ynpvisitor999> Yesterday I was searching for a webcam in the Valley of Geysers and Rotorua. The webcam at the Valley of Geysers is down since 2012 and at Rotorua a frame is taken every 10 minutes and you can't even see a single geyser on that webcam
07:58:18 <ynpvisitor999> The webcam at Strokkur is down since last year and I doubt any webcam is present at El Tatio
07:59:25 <ynpvisitor91> since the static cam only updates every 60 seconds, should they be logged as ie?
08:00:01 <ynpvisitor999> ns is for observations done within 1 minute of the actual start
08:00:02 <Kevin L™> I always mark it as ie when I do it from static.
08:00:59 <ynpvisitor91> is that a rule 999? I have never seen that.
08:01:02 <Eric> Yes, I would agree...all static should be ie, ns is optimistic :-)
08:01:35 <ynpvisitor999> From GT's glossary: ns - abbreviation for "near start." Eruption was observed within a minute of the actual start time.
08:01:48 <ynpvisitor91> and some (Aurum) only last a little over a minute.
08:01:52 <ynpvisitor101> AND using "wc" helps define that
08:02:13 <Eric> The problem is, the images are taken every minute, but it can take a bit to update to the server and then a bit for your page to refresh.
08:02:14 <ynpvisitor999> AND adding 'OFVEC static' or similar
08:02:38 <Eric> What you see can creep into the 2 minute mark.
08:03:12 <Eric> Not sure how much different it is for ie versus ns on OF entries though.
08:03:21 <ynpvisitor91> I agree Eric
08:03:40 <ynpvisitor94> I try and do everything ie, as others have stated who knows if it's "ns"
08:04:15 <Eric> Anyway...I appreciate you logging them DG :-) ns or ie...
08:04:36 <ynpvisitor91> guess that was my point.
08:05:18 <Kevin L™> BTW Eric, I didn't get that rejected message today.
08:05:35 <Eric> weird
08:17:19 <ynpvisitor101> it's nice of staff to enter the overnight E times. It would be instructive if they would add an OF start now and then, but I know how busy they are in there
08:25:49 <Casey> Hi everybody
08:31:00 <Casey> Interesting situation with Vault. What are the odds Giantess erupts before the cam is fixed?
08:32:33 <ynpvisitor999> phew... I misread Vent as Vault
08:41:40 <Casey> That would have been news
08:46:00 <Eric> Hi Casey
08:47:17 <Eric> So is Vault a precursor to Giantess?
08:47:52 <ynpvisitor999> Historically it erupted about 6 hours before Giantess
08:48:08 <ynpvisitor999> Nowadays 6 hours after the start of Giantess
08:48:15 <Casey> More recently it's erupted after Giantess
08:48:24 <Casey> Definitely related to Giantess
08:49:08 <Eric> ahhh, interesting...maybe time to start making plans to visit :-)
09:19:01 <ynpvisitor999> OF possibly 0118

09:36:56 <ynpvisitor999> morning Art
09:37:09 <Art> Hi
10:09:08 <Art> Eric any response to your social media attempts?
10:10:33 <Betty> hi all
10:10:44 <Casey> Hi Betty
10:10:44 <ynpvisitor999> evening Betty
10:11:13 <Betty> hey Casey and DGInc
10:11:51 <Betty> seems to be a nice day in the park
10:33:27 <Eric> Hi Betty.
10:34:29 <Eric> Art, I got a response back from someone at Yellowstone Forever who said they would forward on my request to the NPS...not really what I was hoping for. But you never know what residual conversations it might create :-)
10:35:50 <Eric> I don't want to annoy them, but at least make sure they hear the squeaks in the wheels and that people do care about the webcam being down.
10:37:07 <ynpvisitor999> F&M event cycle @1025
10:38:52 <Eric> Hmmm an F&M now would be way off my prediction :-P
10:39:23 <Betty> hey, Eric
10:52:18 <Betty> OF ie
11:27:57 <ynpvisitor999> Webcam update: July 24, 2017: We have the replacement webcam up in the tree, and are now working through the network settings and getting the camera to communicate with the router. Hopefully that we might get the webcam back up and running this week. Thanks for your continued patience!
11:28:49 <Kent> If they think my patience is continuing they are mistaken :)
11:29:17 <Betty> hi Kent
11:29:28 <Kent> Hi Betty
11:29:49 <ynpvisitor999> During the time they were 'replacing' the webcam, they made a video of an OF eruption from atop the Inn
11:30:31 <Kent> I saw it. I am glad they weren't struck by lightning.
11:30:47 <Eric> I agree Kent :-P
11:31:25 <Eric> Can't wait for the cam to come back up and glad they gave an update!
11:32:19 <ynpvisitor101> what date did the cam go down?
11:32:25 <Art> Guessing it wasn't an IT guy making that video ;)
11:32:44 <ynpvisitor999> June 27th @ 1408
11:32:56 <Art> 14:08
11:33:31 <Art>
11:35:24 <Kent> I saw what I think was the film crew out on the boardwalk that day. It looked like two or three civilians with a cart followed by four uniforms to keep the angry mob at bey.
11:41:10 <Einsteinium> Where's the video of the OF eruption from on top of the Inn
11:41:30 <ynpvisitor999>
11:42:01 <ynpvisitor999> under the image with the lightning
11:44:15 <Eric> when was that kent?
11:44:31 <Eric> I have recordings of the static cams I can review :-)
11:44:52 <Einsteinium> Thanks Triple-Niner
11:45:37 <ynpvisitor...> I was in the UGB all day on the 17th.
11:48:33 <Eric> I wonder if they didn't configure it before putting it up in the tree...uggg
11:49:17 <Eric> It should have just started working once they plugged it in if they set it up correctly.
12:04:21 <ynpvisitor> They must have done it under the cover of darkness. It must have taken long enough that someone would have seen it and reported it on GT.
12:05:23 <ynpvisitor101> doubt those who are there are spending time looking at the tree when they can be downbasin watching geysers and geezers
12:06:30 <Eric> probably mid morning when most gazers are out and about
12:07:37 <ynpvisitor10> workers are dressed to look like trees for camouflage
12:09:06 <Eric> last 3 days of ugb cams are available here
12:10:48 <Eric>
12:10:52 <Eric>
12:12:12 <Eric> Maybe someone can spot the people moving through with cam equipment
12:23:15 <Eric> of ie
12:46:11 <Betty> steam in Aurum area
12:46:54 <ynpvisitor...> I see it!
13:17:50 <Betty> time for sleep, night all
13:19:30 <ynpvisitor999> night Betty
13:22:58 <ynpvisitor10> I refuse to watch static....streaming or bust!
13:24:38 <Eric> Night Betty
14:35:27 <ynpvisitor60> Kevin looks like he is going to get rained on.
14:36:07 <Eric> looks like storm is headed toward UGB too
14:37:31 <ynpvisitor60> I am surprised no one posted to GT. The kind of commotion they must have made to get up the tree with a new cam. Cones, tape, barricades, flaggers, and what ever else they can think of. I think they are pulling our chains.
14:38:28 <ynpvisitor60> Possible the cam did not need replacing and they are just chasing connection issues they have no idea how to fix.
14:43:18 <Eric> All those things could be true 60..difficult to say without hearing a report from a gazer or seeing pictures.
17:10:43 <ynpvisitor56> time for Beehive :)
17:10:54 <Eric> OF ie
17:11:28 <Kevin L™> There is a train at the Horseshoe Curve.
