06:43:22 <ynpvisitor86> Dave, Good thing you sent your daughter away to escape the late summer fires in Montana.
06:54:12 <Dave from B> Western part of the state is getting pummeled. And, no end in sight.
06:54:40 <Dave from B> FB post from Missoula yesterday at noon and city lights wre on because it was so dark
06:56:26 <ynpvisitor86> Yep. we are both getting it. At least we are not related to the kid that started the fire in the Columbia Goarge with fireworks. Can you discharge fire suppression costs with a bankruptcy??
07:00:08 <Dave from B> Not sure 86 but not much we can do to protect our forests from idiot kids who want to play with fire
07:01:20 <Dave from B> Maybe prosecuting them to the fullest will deter future derelicts
07:01:48 <ynpvisitor86> Was just looking at some comments. As has mad it to the coast.
07:02:01 <ynpvisitor86> made
07:02:06 <ynpvisitor86> ash
07:02:16 <ynpvisitor86> Dang flopping fish keyboard
07:03:09 <ynpvisitor86> Looks like a nice morning to be inthe park
07:08:36 <ynpvisitor86> This is a webcam updated every 2 min across from the east end of the fire. http://whereinthegorge.com/ You can use the slider to look back at old images.
07:09:30 <Dave from B> Thanks 86. I just drove thru that area a week ago
07:11:02 <ynpvisitor86> It will look different. Kind of like after the fires on 90 in Montana a few years ago.
07:11:58 <Dave from B> You can regenerate forest a lot faster in the wet climate of the gorge
07:12:04 <ynpvisitor86> Though, it is a scenic drive, they may spend billions replanting trees. They sure spend a lot of time end effort keeping people from building
07:12:14 <Dave from B> But still very tragic and I'm worried of Cascade Locks residents
07:13:41 <ynpvisitor86> Today, it is burning West because of the east wind and coming low pressure. They are kind of safe until the wind changes direction later Wednesday. Wind was so bad last night, it jumped to the Washington side.
07:14:43 <ynpvisitor86> I read where they tried to get a helicopter from our local fire Monday and they could not fly because of the smoke.
07:15:38 <Dave from B> Based on the number of wind turbins in the Columbia region, the wind must blow all the time
07:15:39 <ynpvisitor86> Then i see on the news the news chopper is showing pictures of flying through the ash. I thought ash was bad for the turbans and they would not fly.
07:16:50 <ynpvisitor86> One would think. It seems though it only blows when I need to drive. Then it always seems to be a head wind.
07:19:56 <Joe> windsurfing and kiteboarding are big in the Gorge, must have much wind there.
07:21:54 <ynpvisitor63> they would replant?
07:22:26 <ynpvisitor86> I just read the update on the fire. I did not know the Haines Index went to 6. This is going to be a bad fire. Not much you can do in wind like that as hot a dry as it is. Only thing that will help is when the wind changes direction.
07:26:30 <Dave from B> 100 degree temps in the area...not good
07:27:23 <ynpvisitor86> On the positive side, maybe all the ash will help the salmon recover.
07:31:39 <Mike J> Got a question. Getting ready for my trip to the basin next week. But haven't seen much about Fountain in a while.
07:31:54 <Mike J> What's going on over there? Am I missing reports?
07:35:33 <Kevin L™> I am showing 20 Fountain reports in the last week.
07:37:33 <Mike J> I guess I'm missing the more detailed reports (and maybe I don't know where to look). How are the other geysers reacting, what's going on with the new outbreak near Clepsydra (had to look that spelling up), that kind of thing
07:39:28 <Dave from B> Mike J, new feature is basically just a pool now
07:39:54 <Kevin L™> I know Graham has been out there. He comes up on chat every once in a while, so keep an eye out for him.
07:41:00 <Mike J> Actually Kevin, leads to a nother question. I know its off season, but anyone else planning on being in the basin next week?
07:42:01 <Kevin L™> I think Graham will be. Most likely a few others. Not sure when Jim S or Mary Beth leave.
07:42:44 <Mike J> Always good to put faces to names.
07:43:22 <Mike J> Back to Fountain, the 4-hour intervals seem interesting to me. The shortest I've noticed in a while.
07:43:35 <Mike J> But then, as everything keeps proving, the only constant is change.
07:43:59 <Kevin L™> At least this time of year you may find a parking spot.
07:44:22 <Mike J> Exactly why it is one my favorite times to visit
07:45:27 <Kevin L™> Mine too but it just keeps getting harder to do that.
07:45:35 <ynpvisitor86> May is nice also, however you do not have many reports to guide you on intervals.
07:46:10 <Kevin L™> At least we have the cam for the UGB.
07:46:14 <Mike J> In May, open roads and bear-closed trails can be an issue
07:46:34 <Mike J> And Kevin, at least we have ALL this technology. I remember in years past....
07:48:52 <Kevin L™> It would take a week to find out what was going on.
07:54:10 <Eric> Morning from Ash Land :-P
07:54:49 <Dave from B> No fun, Eric...We finally had part of a blue sky yesterday
07:55:06 <Kevin L™> That is not ash, it is "freshly liberated nutrients".
07:55:14 <Eric> Nice...You smell like a campfire after going outside now.
07:55:38 <ynpvisitor86> Eric, who will brew the first Ash ale?
07:55:47 <Eric> The garbage truck just rolled down the road and it looked like pig-pen from snoopy with ash clouds behind it
07:56:18 <Eric> haha...probably multiple ones 86 :-P
07:56:37 <Eric> You could barely see through the windshield on a car I had parked outside.
07:57:45 <ynpvisitor86> Sorry, I can not feel for you. No one cared when we had it from the Milli fire, or others. But no one lives here, just us.
07:58:19 <Eric> Hey, at least tree ash is better than the Mt. St. Helens ash
07:58:37 <Eric> That stuff would kill the paint on your car.
07:58:40 <ynpvisitor86> It is all good.
07:59:31 <Eric> Not sure if you guys heard, but the fire was jumping like crazy last night...hot spotted to the top of multnomah falls and even all the way across the columbia into washington.
07:59:43 <ynpvisitor86> I remember wrapping the air filter with toilet paper to get down the road. Changed it every day if not more.
08:00:21 <Eric> The gorge is ALWAYS super windy, so really dangerous place to have a totally uncontained fire.
08:00:26 <Eric> OF
08:00:42 <Eric> I might try that trick 86
08:00:46 <Kevin L™> Very fluffy.
08:00:59 <ynpvisitor86> It is just usually wet so they just smolder and burn undergrowth.
08:01:47 <ynpvisitor86> Like coast fires. Exception down south by Brookings.
08:03:20 <ynpvisitor86> Last time you all had a big fire that burned like the ones on the east side was the Tillamook burn.
08:03:46 <ynpvisitor86> Talking north side of the state
08:04:10 <Eric> Oh man, that fire was epic...still talk about it 50 years later!
08:05:43 <Eric> Not sure what in the world is going to stop this fire...they have done nothing to contain it yet.
08:07:03 <Dave from B> Rain will stop it...in October:( just like snow for our fires
08:08:07 <ynpvisitor86> Cannot. Hard to fly when you cannot see in the smoke. Then hard to fly in the wind. It will likely burn west till the wind changes and then burn back on itself. They need to work on the east side to keep it from taking off when the wind changes Wednesday.
08:09:27 <ynpvisitor86> It would stop on the west end after it runs out of trees and houses. Good thing the wind will change before that happens.
08:10:08 <ynpvisitor99> Daisy
08:11:58 <Dave from B> Eric, how is the air quality for exercise at UP today?
08:12:39 <ynpvisitor86> Inside?
08:13:18 <ynpvisitor86> For some crazy reason they are letting school out early because of the heat. They forgot about the smoke the kids will walk home in.
08:14:29 <Eric> That is what the million plus people on the West end are concerned about!
08:14:47 <Kevin L™> Got a West Triplet but no Turbans yet.
08:15:13 <Eric> Oregon Ducks moved their football practice to the Coast due to air quality and I think theirs is better than ours!
08:16:05 <Eric> I am guessing most schools locally will cancel outdoor activities today.
08:16:12 <ynpvisitor86> We had to move home football games last week
08:19:05 <Dave from B> Becca couldn't resist continuing her love of soccer...she is trying out for their club soccer team today...outside
08:20:12 <ynpvisitor86> They may cancel it. I just looked at some road cams. There was more smoke in the park Monday, or was it Sunday that was the worst?
08:21:19 <Dave from B> 86, it all depends on what way the wind is blowing
08:21:36 <Dave from B> Weird to have smoke in YNP but have there been any major fires inside YNP this year?
08:21:39 <ynpvisitor86> She will learn a lot about Portland his year. Wait till they shut down for a single snow flake.
08:22:12 <ynpvisitor86> Not that i know of. I saw something east like by Cody or north of that.
08:22:30 <Kevin L™> I don't think there have been any major fires in the park this year Dave.
08:23:02 <ynpvisitor86> The map did not like me so I am not sure when or where it is/was.
08:23:33 <ynpvisitor86> Good thing, as there are no fire fighters to send to the park.
08:23:56 <Eric> I restarted the PHP client on the server a few minutes ago, hopefully chat is more responsive.
08:24:22 <ynpvisitor86> I don't have any trouble on the simple page.
08:24:32 <Eric> I think we are going to have to go with the Strange Brew method of firefighting in Portland
08:25:45 <Kevin L™> I haven't had the seismo on this page for a few days. I"s that only me?
08:26:14 <Jimbo Strontium> Grand?
08:26:21 <Eric> truban
08:26:32 <ynpvisitor86> I am not sure what they are doing this year. We have the Nash fire at a guess of 4800 acres and the Inciweb report says they have 2 people on it and waiting for it to burn out of the wilderness before they do anything to stop it.
08:26:32 <Jimbo Strontium> Thx
08:27:18 <Mike J> Kevin, I haven't had it either
08:27:25 <ynpvisitor86> In the time being, they have a pile of structure people working to clean up around Elk lake waiting for the fire to get to them.
08:28:05 <Kevin L™> It isn't on the iPad either
08:28:33 <ynpvisitor86> If that fire takes off and we get winds out of the SW, Bend could burn like East Portland.
08:29:59 <ynpvisitor101> Plate ?
08:30:10 <Eric> looks like it
08:30:49 <ynpvisitor63> just read that fire is burning under the Multanomah bridge
08:31:47 <Jimbo Strontium> The bridge in front of the falls?
08:31:54 <Dave from B> wow
08:32:10 <Mike J> Just tried to find the webcam, and it looks like it's down
08:32:25 <ynpvisitor86> Been down for at least a day.
08:32:39 <ynpvisitor63> a FB post dated 1 hour ago.
08:32:49 <Mike J> The other gorge cams show an amazing picture of what is going on.
08:33:01 <ynpvisitor86> Had some image Monday morning.
08:33:36 <Kevin L™> Speaking of wind, I just looked at the latest Irma updtate. Winds 180 gusts to 220. Ouch!
08:34:03 <ynpvisitor86> They are also losing power poles in the gorge and leaving the lines hot so they can pump water. Not sure how long that will last.
08:34:21 <Dave from B> Yep...country is getting attacked on multiple fronts
08:34:51 <ynpvisitor86> Rail line also closed. Kevin will not like to hear that.
08:35:00 <Kevin L™> Yep, shake, bake, blow, and swim.
08:35:30 <Dave from B> Is 84 still open?
08:35:56 <Kevin L™> I would have been surprised if the RR was open. Too many other routes to get around it.
08:36:51 <Kevin L™> Good shot of Irma: http://www.intellicast.com/Storm/Hurricane/Active.aspx?storm=2&type=visible&animate=true&enlarge=true
08:39:52 <ynpvisitor86> The fire even burned a wood tunnel. Oneonta.
08:40:43 <ynpvisitor4> Thank-You Kevin L. for the site with Irma. Mean looking.
08:41:25 <Kevin L™> Very well defined eye. Going to tear Puerto Rico to pieces.
08:42:01 <ynpvisitor4> Everyone better hang on, that's for sure
08:42:05 <Kevin L™> Time for Turban.
08:43:37 <ynpvisitor86> Dave, here is what Multnomah falls looks like. Do not want to depress anyone. https://twitter.com/conradjwilson
08:45:00 <ynpvisitor999> morning everyone
08:45:16 <Jimbo Strontium> Amazing shots 86
08:45:17 <ynpvisitor999> Grand
08:45:27 <Kevin L™> Strong start
08:45:40 <ynpvisitor999> SC steam, possibly ie
08:48:26 <Dave from B> Thanks 86. That is depressing.
08:48:33 <ynpvisitor86> Well enjoy Bh. Got to go check out the car and see what parts I need to order today.
08:48:47 <Dave from B> I hope they throw the book at these 2 kids
08:48:57 <Kevin L™> I had one of those too.
08:49:44 <ynpvisitor999> I just hope Irma doesn't hit the Houston area too much. They've had already enough hurricane damage.
08:50:04 <Kevin L™> OK guys, any of you who didn't do something stupid with a firework when you were a kid take 2 steps forward....
08:50:15 <ynpvisitor86> They will probably just have to go walk around with Smokey Bear for a day or 2.
08:50:33 <ynpvisitor999> *takes two steps back*
08:50:47 <ynpvisitor86> I never did anything stupid, that is what I had an older brother for.
08:51:06 <Dave from B> You're right Kevin...I shouldn't be throwing rocks... shot fireworks off below the rims in Blgs a few times...got lucky
08:51:22 <Kevin L™> I am just glad my stupidity didn't cause major damage...
08:52:29 <ynpvisitor63> that's what they were doing Dave from B - tossing them off a cliff
08:52:48 <Kevin L™> Close to Cone ie at 1025
08:52:54 <ynpvisitor4> I agree,so Thankful my Stupidity did not cause any major damage as well
08:53:49 <Jimbo Strontium> 9 minutes or so
08:53:54 <ynpvisitor86> I can not defend anyone being incredibly stupid. Fires have been in the news for weeks, fire danger has been in the news for weeks. Only one part of the state where you can have a camp fire in the campgrounds. You would have to have a very simple mind not to understand the risk of going out in the woods and tossing fire works off a hill side.
08:54:05 <ynpvisitor999> I once pointed a small one-shot confetti gun at my eye because it didn't go off. You guessed it, it went off when it was pointed at my eye because I then applied enough force to the trigger to cause it to go off... I don't think it caused major eye damage, as I still can see perfectly fine with both eyes.
08:56:36 <ynpvisitor999> Grand G1C, 10m10s
08:56:40 <ynpvisitor86> Got to remember these kids also took video of it. At least we did not have the ability to capture our stupid antics when we were kids. if we did we would have got pounded by other kids, not rewarded like today.
08:57:17 <ynpvisitor999> kids that caused the forest fires?
08:57:30 <ynpvisitor86> Will try and get back for BH. Promise to not mention fires the rest of the day.
08:57:49 <ynpvisitor999> will try to do
08:58:01 <ynpvisitor86> That is the story. Tossing fireworks out in the woods and taking video.
08:58:34 <ynpvisitor999> police has proof that they caused it, on the positive side of things
08:59:45 <Kevin L™> News on fires is not a bad thing. We need to know.
09:02:27 <ynpvisitor77> they will never recoup the money for fighting the fire from a bunch of kids
09:02:50 <Kevin L™> Or their parents.
09:03:15 <ynpvisitor77> look how calm the West Gate is today
09:03:37 <ynpvisitor77> hopefully another lull week, the gazers that are still there will like that
09:04:53 <ynpvisitor999> YMR has been down for quite some time now - any news on that?
09:13:46 <Eric> Weird
09:14:45 <ynpvisitor63> ymr is .. ?
09:21:56 <Eric> Moved back to YFT
09:22:03 <Eric> If you refresh
09:22:47 <Eric> YMR is Yellowstone Madison Seismo
09:22:58 <Eric> YFT is Yellowstone Old Faithful
09:23:30 <ynpvisitor999> couldn't they use YOF, as that makes more sense to me
09:24:04 <Eric> LC
09:25:09 <ynpvisitor101> F probably stands for Firehole. T three?
09:27:45 <Eric> Nah, it's description is Old Faithful instrument :-)
09:30:06 <ynpvisitor101> oh
09:35:54 <ynpvisitor999> OF ie?
09:36:09 <ynpvisitor999> yep, steam cleared

09:49:21 <ynpvisitor999> afternoon Betty
09:49:26 <Betty> hello all

09:50:40 <Betty> hi DGInc and Kevin L™ and thanks, Dave from B :-)
09:51:00 <Betty> how was your eclipse rafting?
09:51:41 <Dave from B> It was TERRIFIC!

09:54:10 <ynpvisitor999> BHI 1152
09:54:15 <ynpvisitor77> ha good timing then
09:54:20 <Mike J> All that dinging. (Can you tell I'm hungry for lunch?)
09:54:31 <Betty> haha
09:56:12 <Betty> wow, a Lone Star prediction. I like that
09:56:47 <Mickey> Well for once we actually have times for it.
09:57:36 <Betty> Lion looks ready
09:57:49 <ynpvisitor999> thought the same thing
09:57:53 <Art> Lion is splashing a bunch
09:57:54 <Eric> Hey Art & Betty
09:58:00 <Eric> You out on the hill Art?
09:58:11 <Betty> hey Eric
09:58:20 <Mickey> Can't tell if those people are standing off the boardwalk or just sitting with their legs over.
09:58:44 <Eric> Looks like sitting to me
09:59:23 <Art> Yup
09:59:35 <Art> Was at Lion waiting for Indy
09:59:40 <Betty> wave to us, Art
10:00:04 <ge> wave back
10:00:05 <Mickey> I see you.
10:00:10 <ynpvisitor75> ~~~
10:00:12 <Mickey> Just above Beehive.
10:00:20 <ynpvisitor999> I think I saw you, Art
10:00:21 <Betty> I see you ~~~
10:00:37 <ynpvisitor77> how is Clara?
10:01:32 <Dave from B> Nice crowd...lc in there somewhere?
10:02:13 <Art> Sleeping in stroller
10:02:26 <ynpvisitor77> what, no BH for her?
10:04:03 <Art> Yup. Sitting here on bench
10:04:38 <Eric> Bee makes kids sleep :-0
10:07:47 <ynpvisitor77> looks crowded
10:07:55 <Eric> Eagle Creek fire is now reporting as 10k acres!
10:08:21 <ynpvisitor999> boom!
10:08:36 <Betty> yeah
10:08:41 <Mickey> Eric ashes from it are raining down on my house
10:08:49 <Dave from B> Fires and wind and heat make for fast growing fires
10:08:50 <Mickey> and I'm over 150 miles away.
10:09:01 <Mickey> Smoke is casting everything here in a yellow glow.
10:09:05 <Mickey> Feels like the apocalypse.
10:09:19 <ynpvisitor77> let's see the top of Bee
10:09:41 <Betty> not fun, Mickey :-( sorry to hear that
10:10:10 <Mickey> Yep. the entire northwest is going up in smoke. No end in sight.
10:10:12 <ynpvisitor999> looks like it's a tall Beehive
10:10:44 <ynpvisitor77> Fire in MT blew up yesterday too
10:11:00 <Mickey> Awful. I saw what happened to the Lodge in Glacier.
10:11:19 <ynpvisitor999> LC
10:11:49 <Dave from B> Half of going to Sun road is closed due to fire that burned Sperry Chalet
10:12:08 <ynpvisitor77> the fire near Seeley Lake is the one that more than doubled
10:12:30 <Mickey> Hard to keep track of them all.
10:12:43 <Mickey> The fire in central washington is threatening communities along I-90.
10:12:50 <Betty> no BH showers today
10:12:58 <Eric> I am only about 20 miles away and really getting covered here :-(
10:13:07 <Dave from B> I believe there are 27 fires active in MT right now
10:13:10 <ynpvisitor77> the Meyers fire
10:13:28 <Dave from B> I heard Cle Elum is in danger
10:13:46 <ynpvisitor77> I think the whole west is in danger
10:14:09 <ynpvisitor77> Crazy hurricanes to the south, fires in the west
10:14:57 <Eric> The problem with the gorge fire is it's a scenic area, so no clear cuts to use as stops :-(
10:15:23 <Eric> Butted up against large population...
10:15:53 <Eric> Plus the gorge natural high winds made it jump over 12 miles in a day!
10:17:22 <ynpvisitor999> I wonder if they can let the fire burn out in a controlled situation - for example keeping the trees in a 1-3 mile radius around communities as wet as possible
10:17:30 <Mickey> Dave from B yes Cle Elum is on evac notice right now.
10:17:49 <Mickey> In the gorge Multnomah falls lodge is threatened and they are fighting tooth and nail to protect it.
10:19:36 <Eric> Yes, but luckily that is easy to protect with fire trucks parked right in front and road barrier on the north of it. They let local firefighters deal with it :-)
10:20:01 <Mickey> Yeah. Everyone is stretched thin though.
10:20:15 <Eric> True that...
10:20:20 <Mickey> I watched a fire debriefing for Cle Elum this morning and they just don't have the people.
10:20:41 <ynpvisitor63> how much space surrounds it- might not be easy
10:20:55 <ynpvisitor999> I see, I guess something is easier said than done in most situations
10:21:00 <Mickey> Surrounds Cle Elum or multnomah?
10:22:09 <ynpvisitor999> Dome appears to be active again. 1221 ie
10:22:27 <ynpvisitor999> SC
10:22:30 <Eric> I wouldn't doubt that our local firefighters have trucks up in the gorge protecting buildings right now.

10:24:58 <ynpvisitor999> thanks
10:25:25 <ynpvisitor63> surrounding the lodge
10:25:57 <ynpvisitor999> nice splashes from Dome
10:26:27 <Mickey> I've seen that sucker hit 15 feet.
10:27:26 <ynpvisitor63> it's neat to be there for the initial
10:30:09 <Art> Oblong
10:30:11 <Mickey> I've only seen a couple, and they were both over my shoulder because I was preoccupied with another pair of geysers.
10:30:20 <Dave from B> I wish there was a bw up to Dome
10:31:16 <Betty> Oblong?
10:31:41 <Betty> seems so
10:33:09 <Dave from B> Good afternoon Dr Pi
10:40:33 <ynpvisitor77> looks like smoke is moving in
10:40:54 <Betty> Daisy
10:41:34 <Dave from B> Betty, where did you end up watching the eclipse in GT?
10:42:32 <Betty> just where I wanted to - at Craig Thomas VC in Grand Teton :-)
10:43:24 <Kevin L™> Tell him about your ride back.
10:43:30 <Dave from B> That is where we got out of our raft.
10:43:50 <Dave from B> :P @ Kevin
10:44:07 <Betty> :-D
10:44:46 <Betty> when did you leave OF?
10:45:11 <Betty> is that a truck?
10:45:18 <Betty> behind SC
10:45:21 <Dave from B> 3 of our party went back to OF. I know how EASY it was.
10:45:45 <Dave from B> We left OF at 230
10:46:13 <Dave from B> Left an hour early because everyone was scared. All that gave me was 1 hour less sleep. should have left at 430
10:46:59 <Dave from B> SIX of us spent over 3 hours waiting for our raft trip sleeping in a SMALL Subaru Cross Trek.
10:47:05 <ynpvisitor77> turned out the way to the eclipse was not gridlock, yet the way back...
10:48:03 <Betty> I think that was about the time we has a stop for restrooms at OF Inn. it was 0225 when I took a picture of a completely emty Lobby
10:48:22 <Eric> There is a backhoe to the left working
10:48:36 <Eric> toward the Inn!
10:48:46 <Eric> Looks like it is on the BW
10:48:46 <Dave from B> Betty, we almost bumped into each other than
10:49:12 <Betty> bummer we didn`t
10:49:35 <Dave from B> You weren't stuck behind a camper the whole way to GT were you?
10:49:43 <Betty> no
10:49:48 <Dave from B> I was
10:50:00 <Betty> we stopped again at south entrance
10:50:29 <Betty> 5 min after we saw the camper line. LOL
10:51:00 <ynpvisitor77> the backhoe is tearing up the old asphalt
10:51:13 <ynpvisitor77> between the bw and the overlook at BH
10:51:20 <ynpvisitor77> going to put the new material in
10:51:27 <Betty> you passed by us then
10:51:43 <Eric> I meant the one toward the Inn
10:51:45 <ynpvisitor77> Betty, did you get stuck in gridlock on the way back?
10:51:58 <Eric> ohhh, I get you
10:52:14 <Betty> no
10:52:27 <ynpvisitor77> I think it is just the view Eric, you know where I mean I think
10:52:35 <ynpvisitor112> , they are digging up the valves that control the geysers
10:52:50 <ynpvisitor77> nice Betty, glad you had smooth sailing
10:52:58 <Betty> we left when the moon was completely out of the sun and took the scenic detour over Jenny Lake
10:53:05 <Betty> no traffic at all
10:53:13 <ynpvisitor77> how nice
10:53:21 <Betty> yep
10:53:34 <ynpvisitor77> I don't think GTNP reached near the numbers they were expecting.
10:53:52 <Betty> we only had to stop for about 5 min when we came to the south entrance
10:54:02 <Dave from B> 77, were you there?:)
10:54:27 <ynpvisitor77> south did back up, yet they started letting people in without taking money
10:54:30 <Dave from B> Took me an hour to go 12 miles (Moose to Jackson)
10:54:33 <ynpvisitor77> nope, I was not there
10:54:47 <Dave from B> All traffic went south after eclipse
10:54:57 <Betty> bah
10:56:02 <Dave from B> 77, I didn't read anything about eclipse in GT afterwards. Did they say they expected more people than showed up?
10:56:32 <Betty> around 1500 we saw OF erupting
10:56:57 <ynpvisitor77> not sure about numbers. I want to see the Yellowstone numbers for Aug 22
10:57:08 <ynpvisitor77> to see if it is the biggest day ever at the West Gate
10:57:12 <Dave from B> me too...that sounded awful
10:57:14 <ynpvisitor77> that was the crazy day
10:57:31 <ynpvisitor77> can you get single day numbers Dave?
10:57:37 <Dave from B> That sounded like my eclipse day in Idaho
10:57:43 <ynpvisitor77> I have seen month by month numbers, yet never daily ones
10:58:01 <Dave from B> 77, I bet they don't pose those numbers on internet regularly but they may if it was record
10:58:09 <ynpvisitor58> why is there excavation equipment to the left...
10:58:10 <ynpvisitor77> it took people 5 1/2 hours from Rexburg to West Yellowstone
10:58:24 <ynpvisitor77> they are redoing the pavement their 58
10:58:32 <ynpvisitor77> to the new material
10:58:33 <Dave from B> 58, OF pipe just cracked
10:58:45 <ynpvisitor77> Dave, stop it
10:58:46 <ynpvisitor112> they are digging up the valves that control the geysers
10:59:00 <Betty> hehe
10:59:02 <ynpvisitor77> I heard 10 hours from Idaho Falls to SLC for some folks
10:59:25 <Eric> Makes sense, the Inn needed new pipes/controls for the UGB
10:59:30 <Dave from B> Sorry 77. Are they planning on replacing bike path with the new material?
10:59:42 <ynpvisitor77> it's not a bike path Dave
10:59:42 <ynpvisitor58> thats the plan dave
11:00:01 <ynpvisitor77> it is the path to the overlook for BH from the bw
11:00:02 <Dave from B> Thanks 58
11:00:12 <Dave from B> Bike path is starting to show its end in places
11:00:38 <ynpvisitor77> I have not heard any news of the bike path to Castle and F & M being replaced this year
11:00:55 <Dave from B> 77, it took us 7.25 hours to get from Moose to Pocatello
11:01:18 <ynpvisitor77> sorry Dave. Then driving on to Oregon I take it
11:01:29 <Betty> there was 40 percent increase for GT on eclipse day compared to the same day in 2015+2016
11:02:05 <ynpvisitor77> well that is quite a bit, did you read that in the news? Do they have daily numbers?
11:02:47 <Betty> https://www.nps.gov/grte/learn/news/record-numbers-visit-park-for-total-solar-eclipse.htm
11:03:38 <ynpvisitor77> thanks Betty, I will look in YNP news for anything on the 22nd craziness
11:04:58 <ynpvisitor77> they do not have anything about it
11:05:07 <Dave from B> 77, we left OF at 230 Monday...arrived at Portland 0900 Pacific Time Tuesday morning after a 2 hour nap at rest area and a nice turck stop shower in Troutdale
11:05:16 <Betty> everything was well organized as I can tell. but we were early there (around 0520) so we do not know if there were problems later
11:05:19 <ynpvisitor77> the august numbers should be out soon, maybe they will talk about it then
11:06:05 <ynpvisitor77> I am glad the raft trip was fun. I did not realize everyone went on to Portland.
11:06:32 <ynpvisitor77> thought you had 2 cars going
11:07:01 <Dave from B> Parker, Taylor and boyfriend returned to OF
11:07:43 <ynpvisitor77> I thought you said 6 people in one car, how did they get back?
11:08:17 <Dave from B> We dropped a car at end of float to save time so we could get on the road sooner...we had 2 cars
11:09:56 <Betty> there´s the truck
11:09:59 <ynpvisitor77> did Taylor have any issues getting back to OF?
11:10:39 <Dave from B> none..smooth sailing
11:10:44 <ynpvisitor77> the masses are waiting...
11:10:59 <Eric> Nice work camop :-) thanks for the zooom
11:11:09 <ynpvisitor77> did they stay at OF or drive home?
11:11:35 <Eric> So bummed the auto lighting stuff on the ugb static cam made it so you couldn't really see the eclipse in my timelapse :-(
11:11:41 <Dave from B> Stayed at OFI. Left at 1000 the next morning
11:12:49 <Dave from B> I see Dave M is headed to OF after 2 years. Hope he gets a F&M while he's there
11:13:00 <ynpvisitor77> he has been and left I think
11:13:11 <Kevin L™> Someone did a video from the top of the Inn with the lighting set. It was pretty good. Can't remember who it was though.
11:13:18 <ynpvisitor77> was with MAB at Norris anyway, only posts I saw with his name on them
11:14:17 <Betty> we met DaveM the day after the eclipse. He was with us at F&M and BH
11:14:33 <Eric> Nice!
11:14:44 <Eric> Glad Dave got F&M while there.
11:14:55 <Betty> yeah
11:15:28 <Betty> and he got wet from BH just as me ;-)
11:15:58 <ynpvisitor77> great he got F & M , now Dave from B needs to see it still
11:16:05 <Betty> that BH shower messed up the whole crowd :-)
11:16:35 <Dave from B> I guess I should read my Sput a little sooner
11:17:00 <ynpvisitor77> BH can shift very quickly
11:17:00 <Betty> I think everyone was wet from Scissors Springs to Plume corner
11:17:22 <Dave from B> 77, I have 2 from last year...that will have to do for now
11:18:33 <ynpvisitor77> ha, yes, considering your park days are over
11:18:52 <ynpvisitor77> I thought you had not seen it yet, so glad you have 2
11:19:16 <Dave from B> The video from this years Aug 22 was amazing...thanks Kevin
11:20:00 <Betty> I think I picked a good one to be my first :-)
11:20:21 <Eric> castle
11:20:32 <Betty> you can hear me scream on that video, Dave
11:20:47 <Eric> ohh, please share :-)
11:20:53 <Dave from B> Betty, isn't it amazing?
11:21:05 <Betty> it is
11:21:06 <Dave from B> Nothing beats a Micah scream
11:22:39 <Betty> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHxKxRM53s0
11:24:20 <Betty> that´s me at 1:35
11:25:02 <Dave from B> I feel a cold coming on...USA soccer game starts at 330
11:26:42 <ynpvisitor999> OF might be trying to pull a 2h
11:31:51 <ynpvisitor64> 1331 wc
11:31:55 <ynpvisitor999> OF 1331
11:32:15 <ynpvisitor86> Was BH nice?
11:32:26 <ynpvisitor999> yes
11:32:39 <ynpvisitor86> Sniff
11:33:12 <ynpvisitor999> I won't go into much detail, but it appeared as if it was tall
11:34:58 <Betty> it was horrible, 86. almost no view, camop messed everything up, heavy snowfall set in.
11:35:30 <Betty> not worth watching this one
11:35:59 <ynpvisitor86> Well that makes me feel better. Should fire Kevin or fine him a months wages.
11:37:06 <ynpvisitor999> I wonder what they are digging up with that exacavtor
11:37:12 <ynpvisitor999> excavator*
11:37:55 <ynpvisitor114> A different sort of critter
11:38:15 <ynpvisitor86> Old pavement?
11:38:27 <ynpvisitor86> Looks like it
11:42:41 <ynpvisitor86> Now i know why F&M will never be one of the most watched geysers. Too long! Reminds me of Fountain and people walking away.
11:43:56 <Dave from B> Riverside does that to me. I never watch the end
11:44:44 <ynpvisitor86> Your loss. I like watching it to the bloody end. See you have missed the blood.
11:45:41 <ynpvisitor86> Listening to the scanner. Too much smoke and cannot even fly air evac.
11:47:24 <Dave from B> Event Cycles and buildup to beginning of eruption are what hook me
11:47:57 <Dave from B> That's why a nice Giant Hot Period is at the top of my bucket list
11:48:28 <ynpvisitor86> You are just a grand junkey.
11:49:19 <ynpvisitor86> The Indians could hook you as a regular client for donations.
11:49:44 <ynpvisitor118> read the log
11:54:04 <ynpvisitor86> Well it is almost Dillon time, no BH to wait for, so enjoy the people watching.
11:54:20 <Jimbo Strontium> If I got a chance to see F&M, I wouldn't leave until it was over, because it might be the only chance I'd ever get!
11:54:50 <Dave from B> I stayed until the end of both my F&M's. Too much joy in the crowd...no one wants to leave
11:56:11 <Dave from B> Besides, you need to dry off before you can start moving towards another geyser
11:57:23 <Eric> Nice video
12:05:09 <ynpvisitor114> Very good video. A shame there is not at least a spur trail on the other side of the river.
12:32:04 <Betty> headed out. Night all
13:13:26 <Eric> Dave you still around?
13:16:20 <Eric> Anyone, not sure if you made it to Oneonta Gorge in the Columbia River Gorge, but there was an awesome tunnel that had just been restored in the last few years...heartbreaking :-( https://twitter.com/TraciARoberts
13:16:31 <Eric> Anyway...not anyone :-P
13:17:36 <ynpvisitor91> TRAGIC
13:18:40 <ynpvisitor63> how it the mulltnoma lodge faring?
13:18:51 <Eric> Yes, the Columbia River Gorge Scenic area is getting decimated :-(
13:19:25 <ynpvisitor91> lodge OK?
13:19:31 <Eric> They have moved the potential evacuation notices into East Multnomah County within the last hour. This is the county that Portland, OR sits in.
13:19:51 <Eric> The lodge is safe...easy to fight that and crews will sit on it.
13:20:47 <Eric> Since fire crews can't get forced back there really.
13:21:45 <Eric> FEMA has authorized federal funds, so the fight is on.
13:22:58 <ynpvisitor91> sad that some fires are lacking resources
13:23:24 <ynpvisitor91> and if Irma slams into the east coast, that will take a lot of resources too
13:23:54 <ynpvisitor91> maybe they need a new NASA director that actually believes in climate change
13:23:56 <Eric> Yep, they have to prioritize..hopefully based on density and potential threats to live and property.
13:24:09 <Eric> life
13:24:48 <ynpvisitor91> that is one thing people do not get that say they are ignoring the fires. Houston, 4 million, all of MT, one million people
13:27:17 <Eric> Yes, sometimes you just have to let timber burn...sucks, but with limited resources, you have to pick your fights.
13:29:15 <Eric> Here are the windows on my truck: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3qamzubrlk8g8fn/2017-09-05%2013.03.31.jpg?dl=0
13:29:26 <Eric> You can see the pile of ash that has built up from last night
13:30:52 <ynpvisitor91> wow, that is quite a little pile there
13:31:16 <ynpvisitor91> people reported ash falling at Grand yesterday morning
13:31:20 <Eric> I am 20-30 miles away too...that amount of ash is everywhere.
13:31:50 <Eric> Wow...I assume its not from our fire.
13:31:53 <ynpvisitor91> like after Mt St Helens
13:32:04 <ynpvisitor91> it is from a MT fire that the ash was falling
13:32:08 <Eric> exactly...but not rock ash thankfully
13:32:31 <Eric> The pumice ash was horrible
13:33:00 <ynpvisitor91> yes, it was intense
13:33:17 <ynpvisitor91> those kids that lit the firecrackers should be put in jail
13:33:25 <ynpvisitor91> consequences
13:33:53 <ynpvisitor91> that link to the tunnel says you could hear them laughing, just sickening
14:06:42 <Kevin L™> Another 4.3 in Soda Springs
14:07:30 <Hemic> Hi Kevin long time no see
14:08:19 <Hemic> True the Soda Springs earthquake swarm was/is really bad. The largest was a 5.3
14:10:04 <Eric> I have mixed feelings about those kids. There definitely needs to be a serious life lesson associated with what they have done.
14:12:32 <ynpvisitor63> do they know their identity?
14:14:22 <ynpvisitor91> the report said one is still a juvenile
14:14:36 <ynpvisitor91> my feelings are not mixed, the whole group is complicit
14:14:41 <Kevin L™> I have to admit I have been there myself. I was able to put my fire out. My kid wasn't. We talked to the fire chief (a friend) and had him enrolled in the fire starter program. When BLM talked to us and found out he was half through the course they were very supportive.
14:15:10 <ynpvisitor91> did your kid cause a big fire?
14:15:59 <ynpvisitor91> it was not any normal year, these were not young children. They knew the restrictions in place
14:16:17 <Kevin L™> The class was jaw dropping (parents were required to attend). There were some "boys will be boys" but then there were a few that were terrifying. One blocked his family in their apartment and set the place on fire.
14:16:32 <Kevin L™> Fire was not huge, but did require a response.
14:16:44 <ynpvisitor91> wow, about the class
14:17:35 <Kevin L™> The took a recess after that and that family was not there for the rest of the class. Think that was the first time they heard the real story.
14:18:57 <ynpvisitor91> in shock, maybe
14:19:52 <Kevin L™> They had to tell their story to the group. My kid went first and gave a BS story. The fireman (6'6" 250lbs, no fat) got into his face and started yelling at him. The cop that was there told him it was his jurisdiction and broke out the cuff telling him he could take him to jail. It was great. Quick change of attitude.
14:20:25 <Kevin L™> I think the fire people hooked them up with a shrink.
14:21:04 <Kevin L™> The one that surprised me was a group of girls that set fire to their school.
14:22:25 <Kevin L™> We never had much of an issue with him and ev3en now when he goes out shooting he is always careful not to do it anywhere where it may cause a fire.
14:24:30 <Kevin L™> The classes were 12 years ago and I remember them like they were yesterday. It made a big impression on all of us.
14:25:37 <Eric> While these kids where stupid and did cause the fire, their intention was not to start the fire from what I read. I agree, that they are all complicit, just mixed about what can be done that one, educates - two, attempts to help clean up the mess - three, deters others from being so stupid.
14:26:25 <Eric> A few years of hard labor fighting fires wouldn't be a bad start.
14:27:56 <Kevin L™> BTW he did have to do a bunch of community service hours. They were planting trees at the railroad museum and had him doing the hard labor. He ended up spending more time there after the hours were up to finish the job and still notes that he helped to plant those trees.
14:29:33 <Kevin L™> I like the community service angle. It puts something back into the community and good hard work is always good for a person.
14:34:20 <Eric> Lion
14:34:39 <Eric> I don't like feeding people in jails while they watch tv :-( Not good for them or the community.
14:37:25 <Kevin L™> I found an ad for Sat dishes and HBO for a prison in Nevada. I sent for the bid package and took it over and gave it to the Senate Majority leaders wife. Got a note 2 days later that the contract had been cancelled. :)
14:37:52 <Kevin L™> You just have to know WHO to talk to.
14:38:58 <Eric> Nice
14:39:26 <Eric> anemone
14:40:02 <ynpvisitor17> In many cases jail is NOT the answer,
14:41:15 <Kevin L™> Grand
14:42:37 <Kevin L™> Nothing on Aurum for well over 2 days. I know an eq reactivated it. Hoping one didn't kill it.
14:45:05 <Kevin L™> 2nd
14:45:47 <Eric> 3rd?
14:45:59 <Eric> only at 9m
14:46:00 <Kevin L™> Why do we get the multiple bursts while waiting for OF?
14:46:14 <Eric> karma
14:46:54 <Eric> hmmm, looks like that is all she wrote.
