00:43:16 <ynpvisitor117> Nice bright footage! Much better than a week ago. Thanks!
00:44:23 <ynpvisitor69> It is just after the full moon. More light, brighter image.
00:46:00 <ynpvisitor117> Can't recall that it has been as good as this after the lightening strike, but perhaps i'm wrong...

05:02:34 <Jimbo Sodium> That
05:02:40 <Jimbo Sodium> is impressive
05:03:01 <ynpvisitor68> A big one. Something like that close to the park would reset all the clocks.

06:22:46 <Joe> Hello Eric
06:23:31 <Eric> You have been up for a while :-) Catching the middle of the night BH.
06:25:36 <Joe> Yes, restless night, glad to have this site to occupy my time :0
06:25:53 <Joe> :)

06:40:27 <Dave from B> Morning everyone
06:40:40 <Dave from B> What's shakin?
06:41:30 <Joe> Mexico
06:42:16 <Eric> For sure...
06:42:18 <Eric> Hi Dave
06:42:22 <Joe> Hi Dave
06:42:48 <Dave from B> What's bakin?
06:42:59 <Eric> 8.2 is an insane size quake...kinda surprised we didn't feel it in the US
06:43:43 <Joe> OF seismo felt it :)
06:44:22 <Joe> Fish & chips
06:46:08 <Kevin L ™> I was awake when the Mexico quake hit. Didn't feel it but saw it on the seismo. It was in far south Mexico with an original report of 8.0.
06:48:34 <Dave from B> What is the deal? Too much insomnia in this room,
06:49:14 <Eric> Well, the cam is a quiet friend at night :-)
06:49:34 <Eric> almost always available.
06:50:13 <Kevin L ™> I was watching Hogan's Heros anyway.
06:50:32 <Joe> Yep, sure missed it when it died a sudden death.
06:51:00 <Joe> died = had*
06:51:21 <Eric> So I thought giantess was supposed to erupt while you were in the park Dave...what happened?
06:51:39 <Dave from B> I think that's next year
06:52:00 <Eric> nice catch
06:52:16 <Jimbo Sodium> So last night we had a major earthquake, a geomagnetic storm, and we still have a Cat 5 hurricane.
06:52:35 <Jimbo Sodium> We're due for a major Icelandic volcanic eruption, too.
06:52:37 <Eric> Plus fires raging across the west coast!
06:52:37 <Joe> I did not quit :)
06:53:08 <Jimbo Sodium> Forgot about the fires. So how many plagues are we up to now?
06:53:18 <Kevin L ™> Nice to see a Depression
06:53:19 <Eric> Supervolcano going to erupt?
06:53:28 <Jimbo Sodium> Major drought in East Africa continuing
06:53:45 <Jimbo Sodium> Floods in Asia
06:53:53 <Jimbo Sodium> Just call me Dr. Doom
06:54:04 <Dave from B> And, Dodgers doing the largest collapse in baseball history...or at least halfway there:)
06:54:24 <Jimbo Sodium> Indians on a long winning streak - that's a bad sign too
06:54:29 <Kevin L ™> The Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant....
06:55:05 <Joe> Kevin L ™›" Nice to see a Depression", that can only be said here with a smile. :)
06:55:05 <Jimbo Sodium> Nationals and Indians World Series verges on apocalyptic
06:55:13 <Kevin L ™> And the Chiefs beat the Patriots.
06:55:36 <Jimbo Sodium> Two African-American women in the U.S. Open tennis final
06:56:13 <Kevin L ™> Las Vegas at 81° yesterday afternoon.
06:56:39 <Jimbo Sodium> If Giantess erupts now, I think I'm headed for Bora Bora
06:57:11 <Jimbo Sodium> Just to be safe ;-)
06:57:13 <Joe> That must be Graham near depression.
06:57:21 <Kevin L ™> Nice steam cloud on it.
06:59:53 <Kevin L ™> Very short Aurum interval. Hope that is a trend.
07:05:14 <Dave from B> So, I have a pretty good field report that of the 2 long 25 and 50 hour Aurum intervals at least one and maybe both are actually closed intervals
07:07:46 <Eric> I don't doubt that
07:08:29 <Eric> I blame Obama!
07:10:43 <ynpvisitor35> no politics please
07:24:05 <Eric> Ok...then I will blame Dave!
07:28:27 <Kevin L ™> I think you have been insulted Dave.

07:45:29 <Dave from B> 10th in the series
07:45:49 <ynpvisitor69> long Lion series.
07:46:00 <Eric> Where is my NG :-D
07:46:48 <Dave from B> The way this started I was thinking it looked a lot like an initial start
07:47:27 <Eric> or the death throws of a long series...
08:02:43 <Eric> wow...two simultaneous cat 4 hurricanes in the atlantic!
08:02:59 <Eric> First time in recorded history
08:05:33 <Kevin L ™> Count again.
08:05:42 <Dave from B> Oh, boy...more records falling
08:05:57 <Kevin L ™> There are now 3 active Hurricanes!
08:06:10 <Dave from B> Mexico one is a Cat 2 I believe
08:06:22 <Dave from B> not that that is good news anyway
08:06:36 <Eric> Yes, only two active cat 4s, thankfully!
08:07:07 <Kevin L ™> Right. I was reading gusts. That one is headed toward the eq area though.
08:08:09 <Joe> Off to physical therapy, bbl
08:08:21 <Eric> I like that the french had military people already in St. Martin and where ready to support their territory. Wish we could have been as proactive with our potential threats :-(
08:08:25 <Eric> Cya Joe
08:09:38 <ynpvisitor111> Someone check capture? There was just a lot of steam in area of N.G.

08:11:47 <ynpvisitor111> no, Seriously.
08:12:21 <ynpvisitor111> Extra long Lion series would suggest it is at a higher probabiliity too.
08:13:20 <ynpvisitor111> Steam was there just as the cam moved back away from Plate.
08:34:19 <Dave from B> Anybody think Lion will do #11?
08:36:13 <ynpvisitor35> Oregon earthquake too
08:36:26 <ynpvisitor35> this is a crazy week

08:49:42 <Kevin L ™> Don't see that on the USGS
08:49:44 <ynpvisitor111> Graham just reported a NG minor.
08:49:51 <Eric> Nice!
08:50:15 <Eric> So you probably did see that one earlier 111, well done!
08:50:43 <ynpvisitor80> good eyes 111
08:50:52 <Eric> Would be great if DaveM could review that timeframe for a capture.
08:51:19 <ynpvisitor111> Yes, DaveM should do it. He has the best eyes for that stuff!
08:51:31 <Eric> and he has the footage :-D
08:51:49 <Dave from B> Nice
08:53:05 <Eric> I guess that answers your question Dave
08:53:08 <Jimbo Sodium> Lion 11?
08:53:20 <Kevin L ™> Big 11 at that!
08:53:43 <ynpvisitor111> Graham is at Lion now and will keep an eye on NG.
08:53:51 <ynpvisitor35> GO Lion!
08:53:55 <Dave from B> wow....time to watch for more NG activity
08:54:18 <Eric> Never seen an NG from the cam before..excited!
08:54:42 <Dave from B> I think all the weird stuff happening in last 2 weeks is ALL eclipse related:D:D
08:54:46 <Kevin L ™> They are rare.
08:55:07 <Eric> I already blamed you Dave...
08:55:24 <Kevin L ™> It is from the imbalance of the earth due to all the cars parked on I-15 and US 91.
08:56:03 <Jimbo Sodium> I don't think the eclipse was to blame, it was just a sign
08:56:10 <Dave from B> Don't remind me
08:57:02 <Dave from B> Eric, be nice or I'll post some predictions for you
08:57:30 <Eric> Those would be good break times from watching the cam Dave...let me know :-P
08:57:39 <ynpvisitor80> the air looks better today
08:57:53 <Dave from B> :P
08:58:15 <Eric> Guess I am Salty today...must be Friday.
08:59:04 <Dave from B> Grand 1135-1140
08:59:31 <Dave from B> Eric, where did you go in Canada?
08:59:42 <Eric> Victoria and Vancouver
09:00:18 <Dave from B> Nice, did you go to Butchart Gardens?
09:00:55 <Eric> I think you are correct Dave, 11:38 for grand
09:01:33 <Eric> Yep, spent a beautiful morning exploring the garden. It was very nice.
09:01:52 <Dave from B> It is a beautiful place...even fun at night
09:01:57 <Eric> Amazing what you can do with a limestone pit and a lot of hard labor
09:02:18 <Dave from B> It looks like Parker may be leaning to WW so trips to that part of the world may be near
09:02:22 <Eric> Yah, they were going to have fireworks that evening, but we didn't have time to stick around. Had to catch the ferry to Vancouver
09:02:40 <Dave from B> Never been to Vancouver...always wanted to go
09:02:57 <Eric> We just ate indian food until we exploded :-P
09:03:06 <Dave from B> haha
09:03:11 <Eric> Not sure you can get better indian in North America
09:03:26 <Kevin L ™> you went to Canada to eat Indian food?
09:04:02 <Eric> Well, not just that...but it was a key selling point :-)
09:06:51 <Eric> The Royal Museum in Victoria was pretty outstanding too!
09:07:34 <Dave from B> I love the ferry from Victoria to Anacortes via San Juans
09:08:37 <Eric> Yes, that is a nice ride. We liked the tawassan ferry up to Vancouver a lot too.
09:08:57 <Eric> OF
09:13:59 <ynpvisitor80> Graham has been posting notes about NG too
09:15:13 <Mike J> NG?
09:15:19 <Dave from B> So, do I hear 12, Lion?
09:16:01 <ynpvisitor80> North Goggles
09:16:25 <Mike J> Thanks. Went blank for some reason
09:17:16 <Dave from B> When NG is "active", white shirts need to be banned in that area!
09:18:34 <Mike J> I'll be there in four days. Let interesting things keep happening
09:19:38 <Kevin L ™> We will expect reports.
09:24:08 <Mike J> I'll see what I can do. Everyone have a good day.
09:24:48 <Dave from B> Bye, Mike. Have a safe trip
09:27:23 <Eric> Cya Mike
09:28:39 <Eric> I assume that is Graham in the blue shirt
09:29:41 <Dave from B> Eric, I believe you are right
09:29:51 <Eric> we have a couple more gazers parked there too now
09:30:05 <Eric> Maybe Kitt?
09:30:26 <Dave from B> I imagine Kitt and lc are headed to Grand
09:30:31 <Dave from B> if not already there
09:30:43 <Eric> I would take a possible NG over going to grand :-P
09:31:29 <ynpvisitor80> it is the last day for many gazers
09:31:41 <Eric> :-(
09:32:24 <Eric> GOSA needs a year round cabin for research :-)
09:32:56 <Dave from B> Don't get me started Eric:)
09:33:45 <Eric> we still have 5 minutes until grand
09:34:00 <Dave from B> :D
09:35:26 <Eric> Someday I will know my timing of easy, moderate and fast walk between BH and Grand.
09:36:06 <Dave from B> Eric, do you read the Sput?
09:36:23 <Eric> I have not lately...I need to re-subscribe to GOSA
09:37:08 <Eric> ok...grand time
09:37:46 <Dave from B> A GOSA survey was done and one item mentioned was group tours.
09:38:08 <Eric> That would be awesome
09:38:18 <Eric> especially winter ones
09:38:26 <ynpvisitor35> tours?
09:38:28 <Dave from B> I've always thought that this would be a great way to diseminate information to many gazers
09:38:58 <Dave from B> Tour to Shoshone, Pocket Basin, even LGB, MGB, BSB, BB, WTGB
09:39:34 <ynpvisitor80> since GOSA has NO paid employees, who would do this?
09:39:46 <Dave from B> Would probably have to be ranger led
09:39:54 <Dave from B> And, there would be a cost, no doubt
09:40:19 <ynpvisitor80> Rangers do not do tours for $$
09:40:23 <ynpvisitor35> the purpose is for gazers or visitors?
09:40:23 <Eric> Dave!
09:40:45 <Dave from B> gazers to learn from other gazers
09:40:46 <Eric> I assume it would be only open to GOSA members.
09:41:00 <ynpvisitor80> GOSA has no members
09:41:04 <ynpvisitor80> only subscribers
09:41:05 <ynpvisitor35> LOL
09:41:15 <Jake> I'll do tours for money!
09:41:19 <Dave from B> 80, that may change soon
09:41:24 <ynpvisitor80> yes, let's hire Jake
09:41:25 <ynpvisitor35> most rangers could learn from the gazers, not the other way around
09:41:33 <Eric> ugg....ok, the vocabulary police are here :-P
09:41:37 <ynpvisitor80> agreed 35
09:41:53 <ynpvisitor80> not police, just saying it is what it is
09:42:10 <ynpvisitor80> Jake's amazing tours, I like it
09:42:37 <Jake> for the cost of the fine + expenses, I'll even get you a Beehive eruption. One time deal only.
09:42:41 <Dave from B> The ranger is there to protect the resource not to educate
09:43:08 <Eric> education is part of the NPS mission
09:43:15 <ynpvisitor80> well interps might argue that one Dave
09:43:26 <ynpvisitor80> They are there for eductation
09:43:32 <ynpvisitor80> or education
09:43:40 <Jake> interps job is to instruct visitors on the location of the nearest bathroom
09:44:29 <ynpvisitor80> not many left now, they really scale back after Labor Day
09:44:54 <Jake> lady just stuck her hand in Heart Spring
09:45:01 <Eric> ohhh boo and the 1138 grand miss
09:45:11 <Dave from B> 80, I'm speaking of the group tour with GOSA re rangers role not their role with the public
09:46:38 <Dave from B> My thought of a ranger led tour was that it would be the only way it could fly in a closed area. And, maybe we could seel it as an educatioal event for the ranger as well.
09:46:50 <Dave from B> sell*
09:47:13 <Jake> interps job is to instruct visitors on the location of the nearest bathroomNG
09:47:14 <Jake> NG
09:47:15 <Jake> NG
09:47:29 <Kevin L ™> Nice
09:47:31 <ynpvisitor111> :)
09:47:34 <Dave from B> I'm fully aware of how important the Interpreative divison is....I suspect Becca will be with that Division at some time in her life.
09:47:50 <Jake> and Graham didn't stand in front of the cam's view!
09:47:54 <Dave from B> nice
09:48:11 <Kevin L ™> you get thatEric?
09:48:25 <Dave from B> That god for 30 second delay!!!
09:49:20 <Kevin L ™> Awesome cam work
09:50:10 <Dave from B> That was fun...a rare sight. Now, Lion should be done?
09:50:26 <Eric> damn....was in discussion at work :-(
09:50:39 <Eric> uggg, stupid work!
09:50:42 <Jimbo Sodium> me too, I was switching windows
09:50:59 <Jake> idk about Lion being done
09:51:06 <Jimbo Sodium> maybe Graham will put it on Facebook
09:51:10 <ynpvisitor111> 40-60 minutes would be good interval to watch for today on NG.
09:52:05 <ynpvisitor110> screw homework, I want to see NGG!
09:52:08 <Jake> NG did a shorter interval than Giantess is on right now at a mere 3y 196d 19h 13m
09:52:38 <Kevin L ™> Missed it by that much DG.
09:52:39 <Eric> thanks 111
09:52:56 <ynpvisitor999> was busy with chemistry
09:54:15 <Eric> white shirt at aurum..
09:54:16 <Kevin L ™> It was the best cam view of NG I have ever seen.
09:54:30 <Eric> I hope we can get a capture of it!
09:54:53 <Eric> Glad to know we can see a minor
09:55:07 <ynpvisitor999> I wonder if NGG activity is related with the 8.1 EQ in Mexico
09:55:18 <ynpvisitor999> shows up as a red area on YFT
09:55:46 <Dave from B> I'm very excited for Graham
09:56:18 <Dave from B> Now, can you guys beat me up some more regarding gazer group tours?
09:57:06 <ynpvisitor999> BTW, here's a link to what the seismos recorded during the EQ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEpYd64vIdI
09:57:41 <ynpvisitor999> EQ shows up first on the Guatemala seismo
10:00:09 <ynpvisitor999> in the past NGG minors took place after a Lion series ended, wonder if it will to that now, too
10:00:21 <ynpvisitor999> Grand
10:01:11 <Jimbo Sodium> Looking strong
10:02:00 <Kevin L ™> Had a 2b this morning.
10:02:05 <ynpvisitor3> what time did Grand start?
10:02:12 <ynpvisitor999> 1200
10:02:13 <Dave from B> 1200
10:02:23 <ynpvisitor3> oops, was down in my feed, sorry
10:02:47 <Eric> Driving me crazy not having GT notes here :-(
10:03:26 <ynpvisitor999> NGG: 1155 water up for 5m and counting
10:04:18 <ynpvisitor3> i guess Graham is missing Grand
10:04:42 <ynpvisitor111> Easy sacrifice for NG.
10:04:51 <Dave from B> I think he is okay with that
10:05:07 <ynpvisitor999> I think he doesn't really care all that much as long as Grand doesn't do anything special
10:08:15 <Jimbo Sodium> 8 minutes
10:10:15 <Jimbo Sodium> into the 10th minute
10:11:12 <ynpvisitor999> 11th now
10:11:33 <Eric> still throwing nice spikes
10:11:47 <Dave from B> I wonder how long until next Lion series? The Lion should sleep for awhile
10:12:07 <Jimbo Sodium> Maybe tomorrow, if the Lion Sleeps Tonight
10:12:24 <Dave from B> I know someone couldn't resist
10:12:31 <ynpvisitor111> Lion could take a long sleep with NG active. Now if Giantess would just take a cue from NG....
10:12:33 <Eric> weema wep a weema wep a
10:12:33 <Jimbo Sodium> Earworm!
10:13:44 <ynpvisitor999> seems like Grand's done, -1Q maybe, duration ~11¾m
10:14:10 <Eric> lion min 1212
10:14:54 <ynpvisitor999> Grand G1Q, 11m43s
10:15:31 <ynpvisitor999> NGG's water was up for 15m
10:16:14 <Eric> wonder if it dropped with the lion minor?
10:16:33 <ynpvisitor999> 1155-1210, so maybe it could be a Lion indicator?
10:20:20 <Dave from B> When NG is acting normally in its inactive phase does it go up and down with water levels of Goggle Spring?
10:22:47 <ynpvisitor999> it cycles every few minutes between overflowing and not overflowing, I think about every 5m
10:24:02 <ynpvisitor111> Big crowd there. We might not be able to see anything on cam.
10:24:05 <Dave from B> Goggle Spring cycles every 5-10 minutes....I believe NG does as well but I need confirmation from someone in the know because I'm not positive
10:24:43 <ynpvisitor111> Watch Graham's notes for a pattern. I think he is staying in that area.
10:24:57 <Dave from B> We need arrows on the bw that show cam angle!
10:25:14 <ynpvisitor999> according to GOSA: North Goggle is connected to Lion Geyser and closely connected to Goggles Spring. On periods of about 10 minutes, Goggles Spring and North Goggle Geyser rise and fall. At the top, of the cycle, the water over North Gaggle bounces up and down causing a slight overflow. A few bubbles may also rise to the surface. After about 30 seconds of this, the water drains back down the vent.
10:25:16 <ynpvisitor111> Good idea Dave from B!
10:25:54 <ynpvisitor999> and when an eruption is likely: If it is going to erupt, the boiling will increase as will the overflow, until the eruption starts.
10:29:45 <ynpvisitor999> Lion's desparatly trying to erupt again
10:29:59 <ynpvisitor999> Lion
10:30:18 <ynpvisitor999> minor so far
10:32:09 <ynpvisitor999> afternoon Michael
10:33:15 <Michael> Hello. I can tell you what North Goggle's minor eruption activity was like in the 1990s, if that helps.
10:33:18 <Dave from B> Hi Michael
10:33:40 <ynpvisitor999> if you want to, please do
10:34:45 <Dave from B> Thanks Michael
10:34:55 <ynpvisitor999> NGG note: 1225 up for 3m, then boiling at depth
10:36:58 <Michael> The water level in North Goggle Goggles Spring rises and falls together. Back then it was an 11-minute cycle. 2 minutes of overflow at the top.
10:37:38 <Michael> The precursor to anything interesting was an "extended overflow" where they would stay near overflow for 10 or 20 or 50 or 100 minutes without dropping.
10:38:03 <Dave from B> And, that is what Graham is seeing today
10:38:45 <ynpvisitor999> only around those specific times or anything more than 10m?
10:38:49 <Dave from B> A gazer has told me that Lion tends to erupt when NG and GS are full rather than empty. Have you found this to be true?
10:38:58 <Michael> The longer it went the more they would heat up. I think if a major eruption happens, it comes straight out of that.
10:39:45 <Dave from B> Michael, how many minors did you see during 1 event?
10:39:51 <Michael> For me, they always dropped at the end of an extended overflow. Boiling furiously at depth. Rising quietly (and slowly).
10:40:25 <Michael> Then the 11-minute cycles would start again. Each time it hit overflow there would be a flurry of boiling which could trigger a minor eruption.
10:40:57 <ynpvisitor999> I think you boiled furiousy aswell, as the extended overflow ended when you was there
10:41:16 <ynpvisitor999> OF ie static
10:41:23 <Michael> What Graham is seeing post-eruption sounds familiar. I think the best chance for the next eruption was on the second or third normal overflow.
10:41:48 <Michael> Longest series I saw had eight eruptions at 40-60 minute intervals.
10:42:02 <Dave from B> wow...8...nice
10:42:18 <Dave from B> Wonder if I have time to see one:D
10:43:07 <Michael> About Lion, I've never noticed a direct connection like that. But North Goggle minor eruptions usually happened at the end of a Lion series that year.
10:43:27 <Michael> I think the activity circa 2012 was different.
10:44:27 <Dave from B> Thank you for the info. It is fun seeing something rare on the cam
10:44:46 <ynpvisitor999> we have had 3 overflow cycles already. Hope NGG goes with the next one
10:44:50 <Michael> Exnteded overflows could be any length. I said "10 or 20 or 50 or 100" to indicate the wide range of possibility.
10:45:34 <Michael> There it is!
10:45:34 <ynpvisitor999> I see, interpreted (whatever it may be) it as only around those overflow durations
10:45:37 <ynpvisitor999> NGG!
10:46:28 <Jimbo Sodium> Seeing it!
10:47:01 <ynpvisitor999> actually, my first NGG I have seen live :)
10:47:55 <Dave from B> grrr...missed that one. Had another screen covering cam
10:48:16 <ynpvisitor111> 60m interval seems consistent.
10:48:46 <ynpvisitor999> maybe the next one @ 1345 +- 5m?
10:49:14 <ynpvisitor111> well.. that would be 60m. :P
10:49:29 <ynpvisitor999> please notice the 'maybe' and don't blame me when the prediction is wrong.
10:50:01 <Dave from B> Nope...it will be your fault DG:)
10:51:04 <Michael> If it doesn't go again, I'm planning to blame Graham.
10:52:44 <Dave from B> Good year for lc's 2 visits...Giant, a few F&M's, NG
10:53:43 <ynpvisitor999> if I am right with the prediction, though, I might considering starting a prediction service
10:54:55 <Ryan> NG!!
10:55:02 <ynpvisitor999> afternoon Ryan
10:55:12 <Ryan> afternoon999
10:56:37 <Michael> Hi Ryan. Welcome to the North Goggle sit.
10:56:44 <Ryan> Now that everyone knows its gonna stop lol
10:56:57 <Ryan> Ive seen NGG once, it was here, and a major.
10:57:14 <Ryan> And it was beautiful... So, yeah I will wait for a minor
10:58:01 <Michael> It's the same lottery as waiting for the next Lion in a series.
10:58:27 <Ryan> lol
10:59:40 <ynpvisitor999> based on previous overflow periods, an overflow period is either going right now or should be starting soon
11:00:15 <ynpvisitor999> right as I say it: 1253 water for 5m and counting
11:00:24 <Ryan> :D
11:01:05 <Ryan> Guess we are waiting for Daisy to zzom in
11:01:55 <ynpvisitor25> Or Kevin fell asleep.
11:01:59 <Michael> Graham's notes are making it easy for us to follow along, considering how little we can see.
11:02:10 <ynpvisitor999> indeed
11:03:04 <ynpvisitor25> Must have been the quake in Mexico.
11:03:39 <ynpvisitor999> I think I can spend all night watching NGG instead of spending time setting up a new (private for now, though) GOSA website
11:04:47 <ynpvisitor999> priorities with DG, part 1 :)
11:07:09 <Michael> Unusual geysers > everything else
11:07:26 <ynpvisitor999> or, if I want to do both at the same time, I should buy a second monitor and put it on my filled desk or hang it on the wall
11:07:29 <Ryan> ^amen
11:07:45 <Ryan> hang it on the wall and keep the cam running
11:08:27 <ynpvisitor999> as large as I can get it and put only the webcam on it
11:11:50 <ynpvisitor999> although I might be better off investing in a completely new computer to which I can connect maybe 2-3 (or even 4) screens
11:16:28 <Ryan> Cam op - if youre on here can you please go to NG? *puppy eyes*
11:17:40 <ynpvisitor999> Error 404: Puppy eyes not found :(
11:21:27 <Ryan> Error 405: Error 404 not found
11:21:40 <Ryan> :D
11:22:17 <ynpvisitor116> There's a nice crowd over at NG it seems.
11:22:31 <ynpvisitor116> To be expected for the first series since 14'
11:23:01 <Ryan> ..
11:24:43 <Ryan> water up for 24m
11:24:51 <ynpvisitor25> Daisy
11:24:58 <ynpvisitor116> Nice.
11:25:53 <ynpvisitor25> Daisy is getig taller
11:27:23 <Michael> I'm putting in a request that NG takes 24 minutes to get back to overflow (since it was up for 24 minutes), and erupts on the first try.
11:27:37 <Michael> That would hit CG's prediction almost on the nose.
11:27:41 <Joe> Ah, Daisy
11:28:00 <Joe> just got back.
11:28:07 <ynpvisitor25> Is Dave on the way to ogle goggle?
11:28:11 <ynpvisitor999> that's why I put 'maybe' before the prediction!
11:29:29 <ynpvisitor999> at least we have two names if any geyser forms around NGG, namely 'North Gaggle' (GOSA typo) and 'Ogle Goggle' by #25
11:30:06 <Michael> I think #25 was using ogle as a verb.
11:31:05 <Michael> I've heard a passerby call it "North George."
11:31:13 <ynpvisitor999> :)
11:31:32 <ynpvisitor116> North Google is a classic as well.
11:32:45 <ynpvisitor999> and regarding that verb, Michael, I didn't know it was a verb, but now I know
11:33:01 <ynpvisitor25> Ogle, to look or stare at. Other racy definitions not implied.
11:33:32 <ynpvisitor999> splashy Bee
11:36:20 <Dave from B> No, I decide to stay at work, 25...ogling long distance
11:36:44 <ynpvisitor116> I can see Graham.
11:37:17 <Dave from B> I can just here visitors going by....what are all these people doing staring at that little hole
11:38:05 <ynpvisitor999> especially if someone's filming that little hole
11:38:08 <Michael> It's hard to explain the excitement caused by a 10-foot geyser.
11:38:22 <ynpvisitor116> It's easier in oregon
11:38:33 <Ryan> LOL
11:38:35 <ynpvisitor25> Put up a sign that says New Faithful.
11:39:17 <ynpvisitor999> and everyone will crowd around the little hole
11:39:38 <Ryan> Place your bets: I go for 1349
11:41:28 <Michael> I'll take 1354.
11:41:40 <Dave from B> Water isn't holding up as long since last minor. I'll be the Curmudgeon....no more minors today:(
11:42:06 <ynpvisitor116> It did that in 2013 and we got a couple more out of it.
11:42:15 <Ryan> Error 406: Bet statement not understood
11:43:42 <ynpvisitor25> New sesame street character. Oscar the Grouch replaced by Dave from B.
11:43:44 <Ryan> ~~~~
11:43:45 <ynpvisitor999> I think YFT is having trouble keeping up
11:43:53 <ynpvisitor116> Tara in the blue sitting.
11:43:56 <ynpvisitor116> Graham and Rocco next to her.
11:44:26 <ynpvisitor999> Riverside 1349
11:44:29 <ynpvisitor999> 1340*
11:44:57 <ynpvisitor999> NGG!
11:45:12 <Ryan> !!!
11:45:12 <ynpvisitor116> NICE!
11:45:13 <ynpvisitor116> Tall!
11:45:15 <Ryan> Wooohooo!
11:45:27 <Joe> Great!
11:45:44 <ynpvisitor25> Mark those snags for winter.
11:45:50 <ynpvisitor999> and, even more great, it was with my prediction window of 1345 +- 5m!
11:45:56 <ynpvisitor999> greater*
11:46:07 <ynpvisitor999> within*
11:46:07 <ynpvisitor116> Dammit. I lost the bet with graham.
11:46:39 <ynpvisitor999> I blame my excitement for the spelling errors
11:46:40 <ynpvisitor25> Tht is almost as fun as Aurum
11:46:42 <Dave from B> Oscar....nice, 25:D
11:47:31 <ynpvisitor25> Too bad Betty is missing it. She wll have to watch a capture, if someone is making one.
11:47:32 <Michael> I'm going to step out for a bit, make sure I didn't leave anything on the stove.
11:47:56 <ynpvisitor999> next one MAYBE @ 1444 +- 5m
11:48:16 <Michael> I'll be back by then for sure.
11:48:28 <Dave from B> lc has seen minors 3 and 4. He is onsite now
11:50:07 <Dave from B> Not sure what Graham was going to do today but I think his day has been planned for him!
11:50:46 <Joe> not
11:50:51 <ynpvisitor999> Disclaimer: this is just a prediction. Geysers may erupt earlier or later than the set window and the predictor is not responsible for missing any eruptions. Blame the one who entered the eruption in GT.
11:51:09 <ynpvisitor25> Excavator OG.
12:01:21 <ynpvisitor999> regarding the seismos, do they work on batteries?
12:10:17 <Dave from B> no extended fill after last minor:(
12:11:03 <Ryan> I will give it another twenty before giving up and calling it a day then
12:11:15 <ynpvisitor25> See you on the TV. Grouch.
12:11:34 <Dave from B> I'm still watching
12:11:48 <Kevin L ™> Dave broke it
12:12:04 <ynpvisitor25> Kevin woke up!
12:12:08 <Dave from B> Didn't you read DGInc's disclaimer?
12:12:33 <ynpvisitor116> we still have a shot for a minor I think.
12:12:37 <ynpvisitor25> SO w long before Becka discovers Dragon boats and joins a team?
12:12:48 <ynpvisitor25> so how
12:13:41 <Dave from B> Dragon boats...do I need to google it?
12:14:13 <ynpvisitor25> It is a Portland thing.
12:15:10 <Dave from B> Becca has no upper arm strength....don't bet on her boat!
12:15:40 <Joe> Portland Dragon Boat festival this week end!
12:16:32 <Ryan> 1415: up for 2m and then boiling at depth per graham
12:16:45 <Ryan> enough for me, I will give it a go.
12:16:47 <ynpvisitor25> She could drum
12:16:58 <ynpvisitor116> we still have a shot
12:17:23 <ynpvisitor25> Lunch time.
12:17:32 <ynpvisitor999> I think as long as boiling at depth is called, we're good
12:19:28 <Dave from B> I haven't seen all 4....have they progressively gotten smaller?
12:19:35 <Joe> OF
12:19:41 <Ryan> Last one was huge
12:19:45 <ynpvisitor999> OF 1419
12:19:56 <ynpvisitor116> I'm reading the Transactions article from 2016.
12:21:44 <Dave from B> Turning my dinger on so I don't miss the next one. No one else in the wholesale office for the rest of the day
12:21:56 <ynpvisitor116> NG!!!
12:21:57 <ynpvisitor116> NOW
12:22:04 <Ryan> Wow!!!
12:22:06 <Dave from B> 30 seconds from now
12:22:12 <Eric> wowowow
12:22:12 <ynpvisitor116> What the heck?
12:22:19 <ynpvisitor999> that was unexpected
12:22:28 <Jimbo Sodium> Got it
12:22:29 <Eric> just walked up on my first NG :-D
12:22:33 <Jimbo Sodium> Big
12:22:34 <Kevin L ™> :)
12:22:52 <Eric> impressive!
12:23:01 <Dave from B> WOOHOO!!!!
12:23:06 <ynpvisitor116> Ok.
12:23:09 <Jimbo Sodium> Not a white shirt in sight!
12:23:24 <Dave from B> This is fun
12:23:42 <Eric> Was out having lunch with my brother and got back to see NG...going to be a good afternoon :-)
12:23:58 <Dave from B> That's #5!
12:24:07 <Michael> Would be great if NG kept going until Beehive time.
12:24:30 <Eric> how long is an NG major?
12:24:34 <ynpvisitor116> 5 minutes
12:24:44 <ynpvisitor116> with a small steamphase at the end.
12:24:47 <Eric> ohhh, ahhh that would be awesome
12:25:07 <Eric> is there a pattern to minor/majors for NG?
12:25:15 <Dave from B> Michael, do minors lead to majores or vice versa?
12:25:35 <Joe> Graham picked the right time to visit.
12:25:49 <ynpvisitor999> If I'm right, majors are more likely to take place *during* a Lion series instead of *after* one
12:26:07 <Eric> Make sure Becca gets to a couple Thorns games, they are almost more popular than Timbers games now :-)
12:27:01 <ynpvisitor999> if that's the case, I think it has to do with either water supply or heat supply
12:28:23 <Eric> wow...the pattern is pretty consistent with NG, up for 2m then boiling at depth, 10 minutes later NG
12:28:29 <Michael> Never seen a major so I can't say for sure. I think majors only happen when you have high water for a really long time.
12:29:49 <ynpvisitor116> you need a longer extended fill, *usually* over 30 mintues
12:29:51 <ynpvisitor116> minutes*
12:30:12 <Dave from B> DG, NG's I seen here and read about usually come near the end of a Lion series
12:30:44 <Michael> For the record, I'm sure there was a long extended fill earlier today, before Graham got there. That's why the system was already hot enough to boil loudly at depth.
12:30:50 <Eric> So how long do NG series last?
12:30:52 <ynpvisitor116> Agree.
12:30:55 <Dave from B> So, are you going to thank me for predicting no more NG's 2 minors ago?:)
12:30:59 <ynpvisitor116> Eric, usually several hours.
12:31:08 <ynpvisitor116> One I saw in 13' had 5 eruptions.
12:31:40 <ynpvisitor999> no, I blame Graham, as he entered that last NGG
12:31:44 <Joe> Dave, at least you did not break it.:
12:31:50 <Eric> Thanks 116...this is a great experience, glad a few gazers are there to witness it.
12:33:10 <Dave from B> Isn't it great for all to share what they know about a geyser? (Insert advertising for gazer group tour here)
12:33:36 <ynpvisitor999> although NGG may be worth predicting to some point, I'm just glad I am able to see them, as this is something one might not see again in a long time
12:33:46 <ynpvisitor116> Yeah. I remember when Cynthia barwin called the first major and I ran up to the hill.
12:33:56 <ynpvisitor116> Minor*
12:35:21 <Dave from B> Becca may join us after class at 1530
12:36:13 <ynpvisitor999> 1430: up for 2m then boiling at depth
12:37:20 <Eric> so should get NG in 3 minutes
12:37:29 <Eric> any camop availalble to zoom
12:37:42 <Ryan> Howdy Becca!
12:37:50 <Eric> Hey Becca :-)
12:38:14 <ynpvisitor999> no predicted geyser for about an hour, so we should be fine having the webcam zoomed in to NGG
12:38:35 <ynpvisitor25> Enjoying cold rainy Portland?
12:38:44 <Eric> Portland, ME?
12:38:59 <Eric> Wish it was cold and rainy :-)
12:39:34 <Becca S> Its been nothing but hot and hazy here :(
12:40:17 <Kevin L ™> It is cold and rainy here.
12:40:22 <Eric> enjoy it, in 8 months you will be praying for sunshine :-)
12:40:49 <ynpvisitor25> Don't worry, the gloom will hit soon.
12:41:16 <Kevin L ™> 75° and rainy here.
12:41:18 <ynpvisitor116> I'm just ready for the northwest to stop going up in smoke.
12:41:58 <Eric> Agree with that!
12:42:00 <Dave from B> Becca, have you heard about the Thorns?
12:42:40 <Becca S> No, I have not heard about the Thorns
12:42:54 <Dave from B> Eric, start talking!:)
12:43:15 <Kevin L ™> They come on the blackberry vines.
12:43:27 <Eric> Kick butt womans soccer in PDX!
12:43:46 <Eric> I think you can hit the max line to get to their games.
12:44:30 <Eric> A little bit easier to get tickets to then the Timbers games.
12:44:51 <ynpvisitor25> If you are hot, head to the beach.
12:44:52 <Dave from B> Eric, where do they play? Portland state?
12:45:14 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1440: up for 2m
12:45:52 <ynpvisitor999> and boiling at depth
12:46:10 <Becca S> Oh. Good to know. I will look into it! Thank you Eric :)
12:46:23 <Dave from B> NG intervals thus far today: 62, 58, 59, 37
12:46:57 <Eric> I believe they play at the same stadium as the Timbers
12:47:01 <ynpvisitor999> all minors
12:47:22 <ynpvisitor25> Beach is a good day trip, or use that CC your dad left with you and get a room and make it a weekend study break.
12:48:24 <ynpvisitor116> Go Goggle!
12:48:51 <Eric> Lot of floppy hats at NG now :-)
12:49:09 <ynpvisitor78> http://www.gosa.org/transactions/GOSA_Transactions13.pdf
12:49:18 <Eric> 111 gets the gold star for spotting the first one :-)
12:49:24 <ynpvisitor78> has demetri's NG article in it
12:49:55 <Eric> Nice, thanks 78
12:51:40 <ynpvisitor25> weee
12:51:45 <Eric> woot
12:51:46 <Eric> .
12:51:54 <ynpvisitor999> NG!
12:51:56 <Eric> 8-10ft
12:52:04 <ynpvisitor999> minor
12:52:06 <ynpvisitor116> I'm delayed
12:52:07 <Joe> YAY
12:52:09 <ynpvisitor116> WHOO!
12:52:31 <ynpvisitor25> Tell Graham he got in our way
12:52:38 <Eric> haha
12:52:45 <Ryan> Hilarious - On the phone with 116 and I hear the ding from his chat over the phone and switch tabs in time to see it
12:53:01 <ynpvisitor116> I'll send Graham a text.
12:53:03 <ynpvisitor116> :p
12:53:40 <Dave from B> grrrr
12:54:00 <ynpvisitor999> 30m interval
12:54:11 <Eric> So was that smaller, bigger or equal in size/duration to previous ones?
12:54:23 <Joe> Did you miss it Dave?
12:54:34 <ynpvisitor25> less and shorter I think
12:54:41 <Dave from B> I did...was downstairs talking to my other daughter. It is Taylor's fault.
12:54:54 <Becca S> I saw it!
12:54:59 <Dave from B> Nice
12:55:03 <Kevin L ™> At least you weren't parking.
12:55:18 <Eric> or running into rocks :-P
12:55:24 <Dave from B> Kevin keeps bugging me about our famous Jackson to Portland adventure
12:55:34 <Eric> BTW, you still have all your teeth Dave?
12:55:52 <Kevin L ™> No slack for Dave today.
12:55:53 <ynpvisitor25> Don't read the log, I was trying to get your daughter in trouble.
12:56:00 <Eric> haha
12:56:54 <Dave from B> Kevin, I survived the Mustangs game last night
12:57:12 <Dave from B> ..
12:57:30 <Kevin L ™> But do you have all your teeth?
12:57:39 <ynpvisitor25> I was encouraging her to do her homework though.
12:58:14 <Dave from B> Full room...you would think something important is happening
12:58:36 <Dave from B> Yes, only missing 1 tooth from prior baseball accident
12:59:06 <Becca S> I am way ahead on all of my homework, don't worry :)
12:59:24 <ynpvisitor25> I am waiting for the big geyser next to that little one that keeps popping up.
13:00:04 <Dave from B> 25, may be tomorrow before you see Lion
13:00:35 <ynpvisitor999> I wonder if NGG continues to be active for a while
13:00:59 <ynpvisitor116> With Lion done it will probably peter out.
13:01:20 <ynpvisitor116> I think we'll probably get one more, maybe another but I'm not an authority on NG at all
13:01:59 <ynpvisitor25> Well enjoy. Got to go.
13:02:11 <ynpvisitor999> with 'a while' I mean active as in eruptions in the next couple of days, weeks or even months, not whether or not it will continue this series
13:03:17 <Michael> I see. I sure hope North Goggle comes out to play a lot this Fall.
13:03:45 <ynpvisitor999> NG should be overflowing right now or soon
13:03:48 <ynpvisitor116> oh gotcha.
13:04:20 <ynpvisitor999> 1500: up for less than 2m then boiling at depth
13:04:50 <Dave from B> Boiling is good
13:05:28 <Dave from B> Becca, lc has seen the last 3 NG....Graham has been there all day
13:05:46 <Dave from B> That's lc with light hat and backpack
13:05:55 <ynpvisitor116> Yep.
13:05:58 <ynpvisitor116> Graham next to him.
13:06:01 <ynpvisitor116> Then ???
13:06:04 <ynpvisitor116> Then Rocco far right.
13:06:19 <Dave from B> Cynthia in there somewhere?
13:06:28 <ynpvisitor116> Probably on the bench.
13:06:44 <Eric> lots of folding chairs :-)
13:07:04 <Dave from B> another homeless convention
13:07:06 <ynpvisitor24> TSB should be there too
13:07:09 <ynpvisitor116> hahahaha.
13:07:14 <ynpvisitor116> Valid point 24
13:07:53 <ynpvisitor116> Is that increased steam from Roof?
13:07:57 <Becca S> "homeless convention" hahaha
13:08:29 <ynpvisitor116> we're tied up with the 2013 series.
13:08:44 <Dave from B> Becca, that is a F&M reference that a few gazers have heard voiced by tourists in the area
13:08:54 <ynpvisitor116> Yep.
13:09:11 <ynpvisitor116> At least twice people have called law enforcement to complain about "homeless" people sitting at geysers.
13:09:22 <ynpvisitor999> because they stayed overnight and had folding chairs to sit on, I guess
13:09:24 <ynpvisitor999> ?
13:09:42 <Eric> appreciate them keeping the area left of graham clear :-)
13:10:26 <Eric> 10m mark
13:10:38 <Eric> NG
13:10:39 <Eric> .
13:10:40 <Eric> .
13:10:41 <Eric> .
13:10:45 <ynpvisitor116> WOW
13:10:48 <Eric> or a white shirt :-P
13:10:57 <ynpvisitor999> can't see it
13:10:58 <Eric> swear I saw it
13:11:14 <ynpvisitor116> I think it tried.
13:11:21 <ynpvisitor78> i saw a boil
13:11:25 <ynpvisitor999> maybe some surging, but no full eruption
13:11:29 <ynpvisitor116> Yeah.
13:11:33 <ynpvisitor116> I'm on a delay here.
13:11:36 <Eric> ok...good, thought I was wishful viewing
13:11:59 <Dave from B> Eric, where did you go for lunch?:)
13:12:02 <ynpvisitor116> That's probably the last gasp.
13:12:19 <Eric> Freshly, vegan food...my brother is weird :-P
13:12:50 <Eric> Should have went to the pub!
13:13:43 <Dave from B> I bet the radio is quiet today...everyone is in 1 spot
13:14:12 <Dave from B> Surprised Aurum hasn't been spotted
13:14:22 <ynpvisitor116> I'd make a joke about Giant or F&M erupting right now, but I've seen that come true way to many times.
13:14:33 <Eric> looks like a group was down at riverside too
13:14:56 <Dave from B> too late now but should we have sent an alert out after NG #1?
13:15:08 <Eric> Yes
13:15:26 <Eric> If we get another series, I would like to know via SMS
13:18:42 <ynpvisitor116> Next chance is coming up.
13:18:54 <Michael> Drum roll.....
13:19:52 <Dave from B> Couldn't ressit...never too late...sorry
13:20:07 <Eric> Nice txt
13:20:24 <Dave from B> Probably the longest in history
13:20:41 <ynpvisitor116> May be the first notice for NG that's ever been sent out.
13:20:56 <ynpvisitor116> Last time I remember a notice different than Beehive was Steamboat.
13:20:56 <Eric> hopefully not the last :-)
13:20:58 <Dave from B> I feel bad it didn't go out hours ago
13:21:03 <ynpvisitor24> Wonder who will hear it when they are driving back from elsehwere...
13:21:31 <Dave from B> Where is Art today?
13:21:40 <ynpvisitor999> Note to self: never run a server on a hard disk, as it is terribly slow. Should buy myself an external SSD at some point in the near future
13:22:02 <ynpvisitor116> External hard drives are great.
13:22:24 <Eric> depending on what you are doing magnetic drives can be fine.
13:22:36 <ynpvisitor999> hard disks are fine for mass storing like images and such, but for a server, not really
13:22:45 <Eric> I run many servers on magnetic storage
13:23:02 <ynpvisitor999> what is the RPM on these HDD?
13:23:36 <Eric> pretty fast, but not unusually fast.
13:23:59 <Eric> Now most of them have SSD buffers too.
13:24:26 <Eric> For real servers you want everything in memory, for home ones magnetic is mostly fine.
13:24:26 <ynpvisitor999> I see
13:24:29 <Dave from B> C'mon NG!
13:25:22 <ynpvisitor116> Tara reports North Goggle is murky and it smells really fishy.
13:25:36 <Kevin L ™> First computer I owned didn't even have a floppy available. Ran off a cassette recorder. Had a whopping 16K of memory (and that was the deluxe model).
13:25:58 <ynpvisitor24> I think Art is at Mammoth today -then flight out tomorrow
13:26:07 <Dave from B> Good fish doesn't smell
13:26:22 <ynpvisitor116> Good rare geysers do thouhg.
13:26:25 <ynpvisitor116> though*
13:26:47 <ynpvisitor999> that must've been much back then, but these days it is nothing
13:27:22 <Eric> never heard of a geyser smelling like fish before.
13:27:25 <Kevin L ™> I have been watching trains at the Horseshoe curve near Altoona PA. If Dave opened a shop there he could call it Dave's Altoona Fish.
13:27:42 <Dave from B> :D
13:27:51 <ynpvisitor116> I thought horshoe curve was closed!!!!!
13:27:59 <ynpvisitor116> man I cannot spell today
13:28:07 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1522: Up for 2m with the best non eruptive boil so far. Should have erupted. Weaker boiling at depth.
13:28:31 <Eric> Sounds like geyser death pains...
13:28:47 <ynpvisitor116> I saw boils between the latter minors in 2013.
13:28:49 <Eric> I see graham is now looking around like he is done.
13:29:02 <Joe> I remember our first 10meg hard drive, they thought we would never use all of it. :):)
13:29:03 <Kevin L ™> It was fun while it lasted.
13:29:10 <Dave from B> Graham is probably getting hungry
13:29:47 <Eric> alright...time to get some work done now!
13:30:03 <Kevin L ™> That is why they make granola bars and Vienna Sausages.
13:30:15 <ynpvisitor116> Not to mention that minors usually don't have intervals shorter than 30 minutes.
13:30:27 <ynpvisitor116> I think there's still hope for at least one more.
13:31:25 <ynpvisitor116> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt81-7lE6Fo
13:31:34 <ynpvisitor116> Minor in 2013.
13:32:32 <Dave from B> That didn't sound like a Micah scream
13:32:43 <Eric> Nice...that looked weaker than the ones we were seeing today?
13:32:53 <ynpvisitor116> It was a Micah scream.
13:32:57 <ynpvisitor116> A small one.
13:33:05 <ynpvisitor116> And Eric yes it was.
13:33:11 <ynpvisitor116> Only about 6-7 feet
13:33:42 <ynpvisitor999> NGG!
13:33:44 <ynpvisitor999> .
13:33:44 <ynpvisitor999> .
13:33:45 <ynpvisitor999> .
13:33:50 <Eric> Coyep
13:33:51 <Eric> nice
13:33:58 <ynpvisitor999> and gone
13:34:05 <ynpvisitor116> Nice!
13:34:07 <Dave from B> anticipation
13:34:14 <Eric> wait for it....
13:34:20 <Eric> now
13:34:36 <ynpvisitor116> and you guys were ready to give up on it :p
13:34:43 <Dave from B> woohoo
13:34:58 <Becca S> Finally done with class for the day. Hope there are some more :)
13:35:01 <ynpvisitor999> at least the description of minor eruptions in the Geysers of Yellowstone lives up to its name: brief and usually not reaching 1- feet
13:35:04 <Eric> Stuck around based on you 116 :-)
13:35:04 <ynpvisitor999> 10*
13:35:39 <ynpvisitor116> Yep. Just gotta cross out that "North Goggle has not erupted in any fashion since 2004"
13:35:59 <ynpvisitor999> should be fixed in the fifth edition
13:36:13 <ynpvisitor116> Yep. Looking forward to it.
13:36:23 <Eric> Does anyone else update their TSB as events occur?
13:36:23 <ynpvisitor116> I'll probably just get the E version, easier to annotate.
13:36:27 <ynpvisitor116> Eric yes.
13:36:43 <ynpvisitor116> I use different colored highlights on the E version for different things.
13:36:44 <ynpvisitor999> as the fourth is about 9 years old by now
13:36:53 <Eric> Yes, kindle version with good index would be awesome :-)
13:37:05 <ynpvisitor999> and coordinates, too
13:37:08 <ynpvisitor116> Google has it.
13:37:26 <ynpvisitor116> 999 eh....maybe.
13:37:29 <ynpvisitor999> LC
13:37:31 <Eric> not just digital, but kindle specific...I heart my kindle
13:37:41 <ynpvisitor116> There i a kindle version out there.
13:37:48 <Eric> cool
13:38:02 <Eric> I use it to read in between geysers too :-)
13:38:03 <ynpvisitor116> https://www.amazon.com/Geysers-Yellowstone-Fourth-Scott-Bryan-ebook/dp/B01DTLXBES/ref=mt_kindle?_encoding=UTF8&me=
13:38:06 <ynpvisitor116> There you go.
13:38:46 <Joe> I've got that, it is very nice
13:38:53 <Eric> Nice, will definitely pick up 5th edition in kindle format
13:39:39 <Dave from B> Well, time for me to go home. Have a great evening everyone! Hope you see more NG's today.
13:39:50 <Eric> Night Dave
13:39:57 <Michael> A pleasure watching geysers with you today, Dave.
13:39:57 <Kevin L ™> Bye.
13:40:00 <ynpvisitor116> have a good one dave.
13:40:03 <ynpvisitor999> I think I will just add a paper with updated stuff, as I don't want to ruin a book with my own notes. I've only written my name and the year when I got it - 2017 - on the first page, not planning to write anything else in it.
13:40:09 <Dave from B> This was fun
13:40:25 <Joe> Bye Dave
13:40:37 <ynpvisitor999> bye Dave, see you next time
13:40:47 <Eric> Go to College DG and you won't have any problem writing in books :-)
13:41:25 <Eric> and the book isn't ruined, it's enhanced.
13:42:06 <ynpvisitor116> Eric, agreed.
13:42:30 <ynpvisitor116> With the evolution of geyser activity, that book sort of NEEDS to be annotated to keep up.
13:42:33 <Dave from B> Special thanks to our driver today
13:43:19 <Eric> OF
13:43:22 <Joe> Ho Hum OF
13:43:28 <ynpvisitor116> Fluffy
13:43:35 <Joe> :)
13:43:37 <Eric> It's an awesome geyser :-)
13:43:40 <Eric> Hi Betty
13:43:43 <Betty> hi all
13:43:43 <ynpvisitor999> evening Betty
13:43:53 <ynpvisitor116> Old Faithful is just in its own class.
13:44:08 <Betty> hey Eric and DGInc
13:44:13 <ynpvisitor999> well, where shall we start with today's geyser activity?
13:44:23 <Eric> exciting afternoon of NG activity
13:44:25 <Kevin L ™> Keeps the crowds off the boardwalks.
13:44:27 <Betty> NG :-)
13:44:32 <Joe> After NGGG excitemeni I was just kidding
13:45:51 <ynpvisitor999> Daisy 1544
13:46:21 <Betty> NG smelt fishy? I blame Dave
13:46:25 <ynpvisitor116> Good ol' bob at his usual spot
13:47:14 <ynpvisitor24> Remember when Economic erupted - those in the Giant cage could smell it!
13:47:37 <ynpvisitor116> That's one geyser I would love to see reactivate.
13:48:21 <Betty> would be fun to see it
13:49:26 <Michael> I wouldn't mind some boiled-algae smell in the Sawmill group either.
13:49:36 <ynpvisitor116> ^^^
13:49:59 <ynpvisitor116> the dormancy of that group is just sad.
13:50:00 <Betty> true
13:50:21 <ynpvisitor49> or Cascade
13:51:14 <ynpvisitor999> question: would you rather have Grand and dormant Economic or Economic and dormant Grand?
13:51:44 <ynpvisitor49> Thats a tough one actually...
13:52:05 <ynpvisitor116> Or have both active like they were in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
13:52:48 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1542: Up for 2m then boiling at depth
13:52:52 <ynpvisitor49> Does anyone have a video of economic?
13:52:58 <ynpvisitor49> can't find one on google
13:53:01 <ynpvisitor999> then -> and
13:53:05 <Kevin L ™> I would be happy with a 5 hour Aurum.
13:53:25 <ynpvisitor116> I don't think one exists.
13:53:28 <ynpvisitor116> Several photos.
13:54:17 <Joe> Earlier speaking of "homeless", years ago I used to sit near and follow the "homeless' I got to see many geyser eruptions. :)
13:55:13 <ynpvisitor116> http://l7.alamy.com/zooms/a49dbd3580d6474ca9ad960d6d2bdb1d/economy-geyser-yellowstone-np-20th-century-hrp1ax.jpg
13:55:20 <ynpvisitor116> ynpvisitor49 here's a picture of Economic.
13:55:42 <ynpvisitor999> looks to me like a postcard
13:55:57 <ynpvisitor116> it's a woodcut. from a negative.
13:56:01 <ynpvisitor116> I think.
13:56:04 <ynpvisitor116> There's several others.
13:56:29 <ynpvisitor116> https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0445/1285/products/DSCN6476_1024x1024.JPG?v=1422468768
13:56:32 <ynpvisitor116> here's another one.
13:57:20 <Betty> nice, thanks for sharing
13:57:34 <ynpvisitor116> np. I actually had never seen that last one until now.
13:57:39 <ynpvisitor116> the power of google.
13:59:39 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1552: Up over 2m and boiled. No audible boiling at depth.
14:01:20 <Eric> hmm, looks like they used to call it economy geyser
14:02:07 <ynpvisitor116> I bet Lee W. has something to say about that.
14:02:11 <ynpvisitor999> time for NGG or another cycle?
14:02:20 <ynpvisitor116> yep
14:02:25 <Eric> Listed as that on the NPS site
14:02:36 <Eric> https://www.nps.gov/features/yell/slidefile/history/postcards/fjhaynes/Page.htm
14:02:59 <Eric> maybe just a typo?
14:04:23 <ynpvisitor116> Just read Wonderland Nomenclature. That was a name in usage in the early 20th century, along with "Economical"
14:05:32 <Eric> ahh, ok
14:05:46 <ynpvisitor116> Tara says NGG just boiled.
14:05:46 <ynpvisitor999> looks like NGG is doing another cycle
14:08:46 <Kevin L ™> Your gazer test of the day: What geyser is this? https://www.nps.gov/features/yell/slidefile/thermalfeatures/geysers/upper/Images/09551.jpg
14:09:05 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1603: Up just under 2m with a boil. No boiling at depth.
14:10:21 <ynpvisitor999> I'm thinking of two geysers that start with the 'S'
14:10:55 <Michael> Not ready to count it out yet, but things seem to be cooling off a bit. Maybe all the energy just shifted to the Round Spring group.
14:11:45 <ynpvisitor116> Might be pear geyser.
14:11:52 <ynpvisitor116> Or round spring itself.
14:12:16 <ynpvisitor116> WAIT. The large pool. EAST ROUND SPRING?
14:13:04 <Kevin L ™> No on all. Clue: This is not the normal view.
14:13:34 <ynpvisitor116> I was answering to Michael's comment. There's a geyser eruptin in the round spring group apparently.
14:13:47 <Kevin L ™> OK
14:13:49 <Michael> As for the Photo, I'm thinking its window opens in about 90 minutes.
14:13:52 <ynpvisitor24> poking around the slide file is fun.
14:19:37 <Kevin L ™> Good answer
14:22:10 <ynpvisitor999> NGG 1614: Up for 2m but no boil. Last report unless it heats up.
14:22:40 <ynpvisitor116> Good run.
14:23:10 <ynpvisitor116> Tara's going to check out that report in the Round Spring Group Michael
14:23:24 <ynpvisitor999> and NGG will obviously erupt on the next cycle
14:23:52 <ynpvisitor116> It's a geyser. does what it wants.
14:24:14 <Michael> Of course. Just to keep things lively. Also someone will catch an event cycle in progress at F&M.
14:24:25 <ynpvisitor116> Yeah.
14:24:42 <ynpvisitor999> large BH splash
14:24:46 <ynpvisitor116> this is starting to look like one of those days where the Basin just starts throwing confetti everywhere and noone knows where to go.
14:25:19 <ynpvisitor116> huh, really large Beehive splashes. No kidding.
14:25:19 <ynpvisitor999> heavy BH splashes
14:25:43 <ynpvisitor999> usually those start an eruption, right?
14:25:54 <Kevin L ™> Had Herb Warren written all over it!
14:26:05 <Kevin L ™> Surprised it didn't go.
14:27:09 <ynpvisitor116> Yeah I was wondering as well.
14:27:25 <ynpvisitor> It is waiting for Indy
14:27:54 <Kevin L ™> It know I should be cooking supper.
14:28:24 <ynpvisitor> Grilling lemons tonight?
14:29:00 <Kevin L ™> Chicken soup. Rooster won't crow tomorrow morning!
14:29:14 <ynpvisitor116> ooh.
14:29:38 <ynpvisitor> And lemon Pie?
14:31:25 <Kevin L ™> Lemons won't be ripe till November. Do have some Heart of Gold melons with ice cream though.
14:31:49 <ynpvisitor> Peach pie?
14:32:04 <Kevin L ™> Mine get ripe in May.
14:32:29 <ynpvisitor> You are all out of whack.
14:32:52 <Kevin L ™> Not for the desert!
14:33:15 <ynpvisitor> Peaches started last month here. It is always roster season though.
14:33:27 <Kevin L ™> Get my apples in June. I should have pomegranates soon though. Make a greatt fruit salad.
14:34:23 <ynpvisitor> THose nasty little red things were only good for a while when I was a kid.
14:34:33 <Kevin L ™> And I do have some Hungarian peppers that will melt the pan.
14:34:59 <ynpvisitor> Hold one over the soup pot.
14:35:38 <Kevin L ™> They make awesome jelly and pancake syrup. Mix them with pecans, apples, bananas, and whipped cream and there isn't much better.
14:35:59 <Kevin L ™> I love thee peppers in hash browns.
14:36:15 <ynpvisitor> The pepers, or the other things.
14:36:53 <Kevin L ™> Peppers
14:38:09 <ynpvisitor> Sounds like we may have a new fire devloping.
14:38:25 <ynpvisitor116> where?
14:38:30 <ynpvisitor116> oh duh
14:38:53 <ynpvisitor> Oregon. Just listeing onthe scanner and not quite sure.
14:39:40 <ynpvisitor24> where?
14:40:39 <ynpvisitor> It is big enough to name. Still not sure where.
14:41:14 <ynpvisitor> I do not think they have crews on it yet, ordering air tankers.
14:41:30 <ynpvisitor24> where?
14:42:10 <ynpvisitor> East side maybe?
14:42:26 <ynpvisitor> Hampton area I think.
14:43:53 <ynpvisitor24> OK- what state?
14:44:20 <ynpvisitor> Oregon
14:45:13 <Kevin L ™> Thought OK was Oklahoma.
14:52:08 <ynpvisitor24> "we" have a fire - thought it might mean YNP
14:53:09 <ynpvisitor> Yellowstone seems to be saved this year.
14:54:10 <ynpvisitor> More bees
14:54:33 <ynpvisitor> Or could it be bubbles
14:54:40 <ynpvisitor> Indy

15:11:18 <Betty> cool
15:11:49 <ynpvisitor> You always had a game, practice, homeowrk, or fish to cut.
15:12:25 <ynpvisitor> Well that was fun, got to go fix a seatbelt.
15:12:38 <Becca S> Pretty much haha :) Now I have lots more time to watch
15:14:14 <Kevin L ™> Good timing. Time to cook and feed chickens just before grown men crashing expensive cars.
15:17:51 <Betty> time for sleep. Night all
15:17:59 <ynpvisitor999> night Betty
15:20:16 <Becca S> I am off as well. Time to go to a club soccer get-together and then a women's soccer game. Thanks for all of the fun today! :)
15:22:31 <Eric> night becca
15:23:46 <ynpvisitor999> OF 1723
15:24:08 <Eric> One of Graham's notes got flag WTH?
15:24:43 <ynpvisitor999> I see absolutely no point in flagging that note, nor any of the others
15:25:15 <Eric> I think that "Hi" account has had issues before...probably needs to be disabled.
15:25:22 <ynpvisitor999> as they describe what happened and have been witnessed by a number of people
15:25:49 <Kevin L ™> Not playing with a full deck for sure.
15:26:46 <ynpvisitor999> maybe it's a second account of that one guy with the 100-foot Steamboat minor?
15:27:50 <Kevin L ™> He also posted Grand as a major once.
15:29:15 <Kevin L ™> Can you flag a flag?
15:29:28 <ynpvisitor90> hope so
15:29:37 <ynpvisitor999> flag has been deleted apparently
15:30:01 <Kevin L ™> Good.
15:30:29 <Kevin L ™> Graham has forgotten more about geysers than this guy will ever know
15:31:47 <ynpvisitor999> that 'Hi' guy needs more books, especially ones about Yellowstone's geysers
15:32:15 <ynpvisitor90> do you think books will help?
15:32:27 <Kevin L ™> His problem was "needs confirm". Geez.
15:32:35 <ynpvisitor999> e-books, then :)
15:32:56 <Kevin L ™> Perhaps a brain refill?
15:33:14 <ynpvisitor24> Needs Confirm? How about the other bunch of notes?? Gees
15:33:18 <ynpvisitor90> some things can't be fixed - what's the line from Forest Gump?
15:34:08 <ynpvisitor999> if every eruption and note needed confirmation, GT wouldn't have taken off in the slightest
15:34:23 <Kevin L ™> I don't think anything Graham posts needs a confirmation.
15:34:57 <ynpvisitor24> seems so random to just do that for ONE note. the others are the confirmation'
15:35:35 <Kevin L ™> Not to mention the 20 other experienced gazers out there.
15:35:42 <ynpvisitor999> and, with a bit of NGG knowledge, you know that it overflows every ~10m and stays high for a certain amount of time
15:36:11 <Kevin L ™> He was the reason we got several closeups on it.
15:37:58 <ynpvisitor999> in short: the 'Hi' guy needs some more knowledge.
15:38:25 <ynpvisitor999> Turban 1736
15:39:09 <ynpvisitor24> can I get a confirmation on that?
15:39:17 <Kevin L ™> Does that have confirmation?
15:39:29 <Kevin L ™> :)
15:39:55 <ynpvisitor999> Does that even *need* confirmation, seen the discussion above?
15:40:21 <ynpvisitor999> SC
15:41:33 <ynpvisitor24> I can't see Turan !
15:42:55 <ynpvisitor54> So Pear Spring erupting in the Round Spring Group is probably the first ever geyser activity recorded from it.
15:43:50 <ynpvisitor24> Cool. Another one for Rocco's Life List
15:44:37 <ynpvisitor54> Yep, general sense of apathy from everyone else.
15:44:58 <ynpvisitor110> where is Round Spring Group?
15:45:15 <ynpvisitor54> It's the cluster of geysers and springs just south of the Daisy turnoff on the bike trail.
15:45:33 <ynpvisitor110> thanks. Same side as Daisy?
15:45:42 <ynpvisitor54> Yep.
15:46:02 <ynpvisitor54> If you look on satellite it's to the east of the largest pool, and it lives up to it's name.
15:46:14 <ynpvisitor54> Rocco says bursts are reaching up to ten feet, and there is a flood of overflow.
15:46:20 <ynpvisitor54> Pretty exciting.
15:46:36 <ynpvisitor110> fun, happy for Rocco, he loves things like that
15:46:37 <ynpvisitor54> not often you get new activity like that.
15:47:18 <Kevin L ™> Be nice if Fantail would do something again.
15:47:48 <ynpvisitor999> Pear's first known activity took place between 1958 and 1959, before the Hebgen EQ and then was active in 1961 with intervals of about 3m and heights of about 12 feet, in May and June 2001 with heights of up to 20 feet and two small eruptions in July 2004, according to the Geysers of Yellowstone
15:47:59 <ynpvisitor54> That's Pear GEYSER 999
15:48:04 <ynpvisitor54> This is pear SPRING
15:48:07 <ynpvisitor54> immediately to the south.
15:48:23 <ynpvisitor999> oops
15:49:02 <Kevin L ™> Hmmmmm. Now what will Pear Spring be called. Can't be Pear Geyser.
15:49:30 <ynpvisitor999> Apple Geyser?
15:50:02 <ynpvisitor54> Pear Spring is an official name.
15:50:37 <ynpvisitor54> I think.
15:50:40 <ynpvisitor54> Gotta double check that.
15:51:00 <ynpvisitor54> Yep.
15:51:31 <Kevin L ™> But if it is now a geyser would Spring fit?
15:51:54 <ynpvisitor54> There was a discussion about this on the Geyser Gazers group a bit ago.
15:52:41 <ynpvisitor54> The consensus was that once a feature's name is official, it stays official regardless of activity. I can only think of one exception to this off the top of my head.
15:53:02 <ynpvisitor54> and there are multiple geysers that have Spring or Pool in their name.
15:53:12 <Kevin L ™> I know there have been cases where a spring turns into a geyser and they rename it from Spring to Geyser. This could be a problem.
15:53:59 <Kevin L ™> Pear Springs Geyser?
15:54:25 <ynpvisitor54> It's pear spring itself erupting. So it should remain pear spring.
15:55:21 <ynpvisitor999> Wasn't Solitary Geyser once called Solitary Spring or Solitary Pool?
15:55:43 <Kevin L ™> Yes it was.
15:56:06 <ynpvisitor54> I think when first discovered.
15:57:02 <ynpvisitor54> The official name of "Solitary Geyser" was approved in 1937 by the USBGN
15:57:06 <ynpvisitor999> and renamed to geyser when a channel was dug for a swimming pool and geyser activity began taking place
15:57:18 <ynpvisitor54> https://geonames.usgs.gov/apex/f?p=138:3:0::NO::P3_FID,P3_TITLE:1597122,Solitary%20Geyser
16:00:20 <ynpvisitor54> Bulger Geyser was once named Bulger Spring, but was officially changed to Geyser in 1999.
16:00:37 <ynpvisitor54> That's the only case I know of something officially being changed from Spring to Geyser.
16:04:23 <ynpvisitor24> so many pools erupt at some point
16:08:33 <ynpvisitor54> yep true ynpvisitor24
16:08:48 <ynpvisitor999> Daisy ie
16:09:03 <ynpvisitor54> nice lighting on it too
16:11:48 <ynpvisitor24> I didn't know Bulger was officiall changed that recently
16:11:57 <ynpvisitor24> ~learn something new every day - thanks
16:12:37 <ynpvisitor54> no problem. That was also when several feature names in the Sawmill group were made official. I believe that is the last batch of names approved in Yellowstone.
16:13:20 <ynpvisitor24> Neat. thanks again
16:21:30 <ynpvisitor110> Grand
16:21:38 <ynpvisitor999> Grand
16:21:39 <Kevin L ™> Grand
16:24:02 <ynpvisitor24> Can I get a confirmation on that
16:24:24 <Kevin L ™> Ask Hi
16:24:34 <ynpvisitor54> ha
16:24:43 <ynpvisitor54> The question is, is it a major or minor
16:24:45 <ynpvisitor110> may I suggest your own observation?
16:26:33 <Kevin L ™> This one looks like a minor to me.
16:26:58 <ynpvisitor999> I think it's a medium
16:29:04 <Kevin L ™> 8m
16:29:27 <ynpvisitor999> that's low-end medium, but still :)
16:29:55 <Kevin L ™> Medium rare?
16:30:59 <ynpvisitor999> if mediums are rare? they are, usually only majors are recorded, while minors occur every 20 minutes before a major
16:31:04 <Kevin L ™> Looking 1b
16:32:26 <Kevin L ™> or not
16:32:38 <ynpvisitor999> in all seriousness, this is 2nd?
16:32:54 <Kevin L ™> yes
16:33:15 <ynpvisitor999> yay, something else instead of a 1b
16:35:35 <ynpvisitor999> G2Q, 11m55s
16:42:59 <ynpvisitor999> I'm calling it a day for today, currently 0242 here. Got a bit carried away with setting up some stuff for a website
17:22:12 <ynpvisitor49> where did all the GT north goggles entries go?
17:23:55 <ynpvisitor49> oh nevermind, a refresh fixed it
18:54:42 <ynpvisitor21> OF 2054 wc
20:30:54 <ynpvisitor113> OF 2230 wc
20:33:29 <ynpvisitor113> Perhaps the searchlight has returned to the roof of the lodge
