05:04:52 <Dave from B> Morning everyone
05:05:30 <Joe´> Hi Dave Just in time for Grand soon
05:06:05 <Dave from B> I see that. Where's Jim S. He's normally here by now
05:08:10 <ynpvisitor37> It’s cold and he stayed late for BH yesterday
05:10:23 <Dave from B> wow....not used to Jim being at OF at 1940
05:11:05 <ynpvisitor37> Yeah, he posted Fountain at 2025 ie
05:11:56 <1014M> Grand
05:12:03 <ynpvisitor37> Not sure how he posted that. No cell between Fountain and Madison
05:12:20 <1014M> There's a tiny spot by Mary Mountain trail that you can get it
05:18:48 <ynpvisitor37> Grand just started for me. Huge delay
05:19:23 <ynpvisitor37> I wonder what does that?
05:19:34 <Joe´> time to refresh 37
05:19:35 <1014M> Under Settings
05:19:38 <1014M> Do you see RTMP - Live?
05:20:25 <1014M> It does seem to "drift" over time, last nights BH was way delayed for me
05:21:14 <ynpvisitor37> It says 30 second delay
05:21:29 <ynpvisitor37> That was more like 6 minutes
05:21:48 <Joe´> I find that an F5 corrects the time gap
05:22:14 <ynpvisitor37> I’m on my phone, no F5
05:22:57 <Joe´> phone--no idea how to correct that
05:23:38 <ynpvisitor37> Yeah, me either. I refresh and it still says 30 second delay
05:24:57 <ynpvisitor8> Beautiful OF
05:26:41 <ynpvisitor8> Maybe Jim S is staying in West instead of Madison
05:28:13 <Dave from B> I heard he is staying at Madison. His camp at West is still under snow
05:36:43 <Dave from B> Jimbo, did you see Kilauea is evacuation...constant quakes?
05:37:49 <Dave from B> East Rift Zone
05:53:39 <Jimbo Strontium> Yup, I did. Watching it on a Webcam: There was visible activity earlier this morning, not right now. I doubt it's over yet.
05:54:48 <Dave from B> Jimbo, if you see an increase in activity, let me know
05:55:05 <Jimbo Strontium> When your house is down the street from Lava Tree State Monument, you'
05:55:15 <Jimbo Strontium> ve got to be aware something like this might happen
05:55:40 <Jimbo Strontium> Man, fat-fingered today
05:57:07 <Jimbo Strontium> First fissure erupted about two hours yesterday afternoon in Hawaii. This activity started around 2 AM local time.
06:02:30 <ynpvisitor73> Heard it on the news last night about the warnings. Read headline about the eruption just now. I knew all the geyser activity was going to cause something to happen.
06:11:43 <ynpvisitor73> Wow, brave or stupid to steal 10 new trucks from the plant.
06:35:34 <1014M> Daisy
06:38:12 <ynpvisitor38> wow, no in basin reports
06:38:19 <ynpvisitor38> is everyone sleeping in?
06:39:33 <ynpvisitor73> There are other geysers on the way to OF.
06:40:01 <ynpvisitor73> Castle starting or finishing.
06:40:21 <Joe´> finishing
06:40:22 <ynpvisitor38> neither
06:40:41 <ynpvisitor38> Castle was at 0529 major
06:40:42 <Dave from B> steaming
06:41:22 <ynpvisitor38> some of the people are in basin and won't be driving past the other geyser basins
06:41:50 <Dave from B> Was Micah out late last night?
06:41:54 <1014M> Maybe something exciting is going on at Norris
06:42:10 <ynpvisitor38> hopefully snow removal
06:42:18 <1014M> We're at 7d 2h 12m since last Steamboat ;)
06:43:09 <ynpvisitor73> Wow, that is getting close to going dormant. Course now that the volcano is erupting, all bets are off.
06:43:31 <ynpvisitor38> bbl
06:44:05 <Joe´> was the steamboat video posted?
06:45:07 <ynpvisitor73> I want to see the trail cam image.
06:47:03 <Dave from B> Hopefully, Bill will let us know when he hops on today.
06:48:04 <Joe´> riverside
06:48:12 <ynpvisitor73> Not very many people out for a Friday. Maybe they are staying home to avoid the crowds?
06:53:23 <Joe´> Riverside actually 0843 per capture
06:57:03 <Jake> I predict the GT Beehive prediction will be correct today
06:57:47 <Dave from B> You have to say's your prediction!
06:58:19 <Kevin L™> It will go as a no Indy when I am running my table saw so I will miss hearing the text ring.
06:58:40 <Dave from B> Tape the phone to your ear
06:58:47 <Dave from B> put it on vibrate
06:58:56 <ynpvisitor73> I predict BH will go when I am not watching. SoOmething that will happen very soon.
06:59:07 <ynpvisitor73> The table saw?
06:59:31 <Kevin L™> It is on the loud setting and vibrate. When I am on a table saw neither work.
06:59:50 <Joe´> OF 0859
06:59:51 <Dave from B> Jake, with a 4 hour window on a stable BH of late...I'll agree with your assessment
07:00:15 <Dave from B> Kevin, do you need s smaller BH window?
07:00:49 <Kevin L™> I need a new set of ears.
07:07:52 <Jake> GT 4 hour window has only been 55% accurate over the last 20 eruptions :(
07:07:58 <Jake> on Beehive
07:32:09 <Dave from B> Morning Larry
07:33:17 <Larry in Denver> Morning all, just catching up with the chat this AM
07:34:41 <Dave from B> pretty quiet morning thus far
07:34:57 <Larry in Denver> I see the discussion about 30-second delay. I'm on a new computer and browser and I see it switched from RTMP to HLS 30-decond delay. Annoying
07:35:30 <Larry in Denver> I guess you need flash to support RTMP and that support is going away
07:35:34 <Jake> enable flash for this page in your browser
07:36:12 <Larry in Denver> This version of Firefox is new to me. Hints on where to do that?
07:41:10 <Kevin L™> Try this:
07:41:58 <Eric> morning
07:42:11 <Larry in Denver> Morning Eric
07:42:14 <Dave from B> Morning Eric
07:42:16 <Eric> Jake, did you see the data dump from Bill?
07:42:31 <Eric> I dropped a couple of graphs from that data here last night
07:42:43 <Larry in Denver> I tried that and flash is not pre-loaded in FF59 ready to activate
07:43:58 <Eric> Here is the data via google sheets -
07:44:08 <Eric> It has the two graphs in it on separate sheets
07:45:15 <Larry in Denver> Found it on the Adobe download site...
07:45:41 <Eric> Do you have a link I can add here Larry?
07:46:11 <Eric> If it helps will probably help other FF users :-D
07:46:14 <Dave from B> 2 graphs are definitely different
07:46:32 <Eric> Yes, the 4/27 graph is really funky
07:46:50 <Larry in Denver>
07:47:20 <Joe´> Larry download the adobe flash and install, then go to your ff plugins find shockwave flash and set it to always activate
07:47:33 <Jimbo Strontium> Dave, if you look at the Kilauea Webcam right now, you can see where the rift eruption activity is, it's steaming:
07:48:22 <Dave from B> Jimbo, you mean in the background of the cam?
07:49:04 <Jake> Eric, that is Steamboat temperature logger from the runoff channel? is it the YVO logger or did NPS Geology have one out there?
07:49:09 <ynpvisitor43> Hey 1014, you still attending meetings at the
07:49:09 <Dave from B> That cam is not live. There is not 8 hours difference between Blgs and Hawaii
07:49:44 <ynpvisitor73> Enjoy bee
07:50:00 <Eric> I believe it is the YVO logger data from south channel
07:50:42 <Eric> Bill won't be back here until Monday to confirm that though
07:52:00 <Jake> I am requesting Edit access :D
07:52:13 <Eric> just copy it to your own drive
07:52:21 <Eric> or download it
07:52:50 <Larry in Denver> It was exciting last evening when some dude uploaded drone footage of the lava eruption in the Lailani Estates just minutes after it happened. It got picked up by all the news orgs.
07:52:50 <Joe´> Eric, what I have found is i had to download the adobe flash and install, restart ff then go to your ff plugins find shockwave flash and set it to always activate
07:53:24 <Eric> I gave you edit access anyway :-)
07:54:07 <Larry in Denver> Imagine that popping up in your back yard
07:54:07 <Eric> Thanks Joe...I have added a direct link to download flash here under help
07:55:05 <Jimbo Strontium> Yeah, right in front of the small rise (which I think is an old eruption crater). That place is very active.
07:55:36 <Jimbo Strontium> Who remembers the Paricutin story? Popped up in a Mexican cornfield.
07:56:40 <Jimbo Strontium> Dave, it got brighter. Very easy to see now.
07:57:24 <Kevin L™> I remember that Jimbo.
07:57:38 <Jimbo Strontium> When I first looked, there was a bright light there, and the civil defense report said there was active fountaining. The light "went out", so I think it's just degassing for the moment.
07:59:11 <Kevin L™> There was a 5.0 eq there a day or so ago.
08:00:19 <Eric> That quake coincided with the collapse of the crater kevin
08:01:08 <Eric> Yes, there is phone footage from the road showing the lava fountaining right in the middle of the road!
08:02:03 <Jimbo Strontium> There was a magma intrusion under the East Rift Zone, apparently opened fractures that allowed the chamber under the cone to drain
08:02:24 <Eric> went down 137ft last night
08:02:27 <Jimbo Strontium> This could be the last act of an eruption that started in 1986 (and which I saw in an helicopter overflight in 1991)
08:03:07 <Jimbo Strontium> Yeah, the summit lava lake went down, and the floor of the Pu'u O'o flank cone collapsed
08:04:40 <Jake> the 4/27 Steamboat eruption does show increased activity at the time of Rocco's report. And the biggest spike occuring at the time of the seismic event suggests that was the major eruption. Can't say for sure if what Rocco saw 1.5hrs later was a smaller event based on the temperature if the previous activity altered the logger site by moving or burying the sensor.
08:04:55 <Jake> that the major eruption was ~0630
08:06:24 <Jake> looks like it all was preceded by lots of water events for several hours prior to the eruption
08:07:09 <Eric> Yep...very interesting spikes leading up to the main eruption
08:07:24 <Eric> So different than the 4/19 eruption
08:08:46 <Larry in Denver> Well that was exciting
08:09:30 <Eric> You now RTMP live Larry?
08:10:26 <Jake> the 4/19 event had 1 hour of preplay
08:10:48 <Jake> Larry, you just spent 45 minutes to gain 30 seconds!
08:10:51 <Larry in Denver> Loaded shockwave, restarted Firefox, unclicked "block dangerous..." and the image froze. Rebooted, same thing. Had to click on "Always activate" instead of "Ask to activate" but am now back on RTMP live
08:11:30 <Larry in Denver> A small step for May 4th, a giant leap for future logins!
08:11:45 <Eric> hahaha
08:20:30 <Eric> hopefully low latency streaming gets sorted soon and we can get the park to change over the broadcast to something like WebRTC
08:21:09 <Eric> I am thankful we are all not stuck on HLS delayed streams
08:21:53 <Kevin L™> Looks like the Indy crew is arriving.
08:22:47 <Eric> average over last 3 puts BH @ 10:51 +- 41m
08:23:45 <Joe´> I think pixelcraft will have to make the change to WedRTC I do not have any what deals the NPS has with pixelcraft
08:24:07 <Larry in Denver> Yes, from my crash course in the past hour it sounds like the transition from Flash is not particularly clear at this time
08:24:07 <Joe´> idea after any
08:24:55 <Eric> yep, pixelcaster will have to do it...but they will probably only do what the NPS asks them to :-D
08:25:52 <Eric> But flash should be supported through next I am holding off making recommendations to them until we have a clearer path on low latency video options.
08:26:01 <Joe´> yes pixelcaster, Im glad you knew what I should have typed :)
08:26:30 <Kevin L™> We understand Davespeak here.
08:26:45 <Joe´> :)
08:26:52 <Eric> They are also making decent headway into low latency HLS, down to a 4-5 second delay...which wouldn't be horrible.
08:27:58 <Eric> OF
08:28:48 <Eric> pretty large smoke at on hawaii static now too
08:33:27 <Eric> ok....west entrance is now hawaii volcanoe cam on refresh.
08:33:46 <Jimbo Strontium> Yup, something woke up. Thanks Eric!
08:33:57 <Eric> It will return to normal programming when action subsides
08:34:59 <Jimbo Strontium> This somewhat makes up for Mauna Loa being quiet for so long
08:35:06 <Eric> Their servers are getting hammered, so it might not show up all the time
08:35:25 <Jimbo Strontium> Refreshes every 15 minutes
08:35:58 <Eric> Yes, but their server is failing to load half the time
08:36:23 <Kevin L™> It is stressing
08:46:20 <ynpvisitor94> So with you conecting and showing it to everyone that is on your page, it that one connection or the several?
08:47:35 <Eric> well, anyone who accesses it is several....but that is tiny potatoes compared to loading a webpage.
08:47:48 <Eric> anyway...I am fixing that by adding a buffer of the image on our own server
08:48:47 <ynpvisitor94> Can you set the buffer to not update if it is blank?
08:49:38 <Eric> The buffer will never be blank now
08:50:03 <Eric> refresh the page will get you updated using a local copy of the image versus off the usgs site
08:50:13 <Eric> It should never return blank now
08:50:43 <ynpvisitor94> I am on simple now.
08:51:22 <Eric> ok
08:51:46 <Eric> Very cool image though from Kilauea webcam...
08:52:38 <ynpvisitor94> Dumped yahoo mail login as my home page because of their new read it all privacy policy. So now GT times is my home page. Saw close to cone and stopped in the the indy call, and still waiting.
08:53:05 <ynpvisitor94> I think Kevin's saw dust plugged it up
08:54:25 <Kevin L™> Lion looks happy
08:54:58 <Kevin L™> If I touched it this week it will break.
08:55:51 <Jake> I've never heard anyone say "GT Times" it's like saying PIN Number and ATM Machine :D:D:D
08:56:20 <Jake> that's how you know your acronym as truly arrived
08:57:22 <Larry in Denver> Well that's what happens when you steal an acronym from fast cars...
08:57:32 <ynpvisitor57> Agree on Kilauea - you can clearly see smoke from the fissure eruption adjacent to various dwellings on the Lower East Rift Zone camera
08:58:50 <ynpvisitor94> GT times as apposed to chat.
08:59:56 <ynpvisitor94> So Kevin is banned form operating the cam this week? So he can not brake it!
09:00:19 <Kevin L™> Does insurance cover volcanic eruptions?
09:00:35 <Kevin L™> I probably should be 94
09:00:48 <ynpvisitor94> Mine does, I have the earth quake protection.
09:01:01 <Eric> But do you have lava protection :-P
09:01:03 <ynpvisitor94> It is in that rider
09:01:06 <Kevin L™> I also have eq coverage.
09:01:13 <Eric> I assume a fire would happen first
09:01:52 <ynpvisitor94> But if the fire is caused by the volcano, it may not be covered.
09:01:58 <Kevin L™> I guess lava would be considered earth movement.
09:02:30 <ynpvisitor94> Lave, ash, falling rocks, if it is from a volcano, I am covered.
09:02:43 <Kevin L™> My insurance did cover this 30 years ago today:
09:03:35 <ynpvisitor94> Well enjoy BH. Got to go.
09:04:36 <Kevin L™> May get a rainbow today
09:04:42 <ynpvisitor8> A line at the West Gate
09:05:28 <Eric> lookin hot @ bh
09:05:42 <Larry in Denver> Wow, that was an impressive series of explosions. How close were you to that plant Kevin?
09:06:26 <Kevin L™> About 2 miles.
09:12:06 <Dave from B> Anyone thinking Giant eruption this weekend besides me?
09:13:17 <Kevin L™> Geyser or Hawaii volcano?
09:14:43 <Dave from B> Geyser
09:18:59 <Jimbo Strontium> Giant has more frequent hot periods closer to an eruption, right?
09:27:16 <Jake> idk Jimbo, I don't think it's worked that way in the past
09:28:04 <Jake> for post-Grotto marathon, the very first hot period was the likeliest one for eruption when there hadn't been any hot periods for 24+ hours
09:30:23 <Eric> ahh, that is good to know
09:31:24 <ynpvisitor51> that's looking good!
09:31:25 <Jake> from what I've read so far of 2018 Giants, the playbook is being re-written now that Bijou doesn't have to be quiet or pause prior to Feather erupting
09:32:24 <Jake> if I were approaching Giant without any historical knowledge, I would take frequent Feather eruptions as a good sign for a big eruption!
09:33:33 <Jimbo Strontium> OK, that answered my question. Darned unpredictable geysers :p
09:34:59 <Jake> it's a good sign (unless it isn't)
09:35:37 <Kevin L™> Except on Tuesdays that have a full moon.
09:36:18 <Eric> @ 6:40am they had a 3rd breakout of lava in that subdivision
09:37:29 <Jake> I am nowhere near an expert on Giant or F&M. At F&M, what experts like to see is the cycling of water levels through the system. Water goes up, water goes down, but in a consistent manner. And then one of the cycles goes up bigger to lead into the eruption. Not that the cycles should get closer together before an eruption.
09:37:57 <Jimbo Strontium> Where'd you see that, Eric?
09:38:00 <ynpvisitor117> Feather has been cycling for days now and now eruption at Giant
09:38:49 <Eric>
09:39:01 <ynpvisitor117> Eric, you took away the west gate? Why not take away heading into the park, that one is truly unnecessary
09:39:14 <ynpvisitor117> oops, I meant NO eruption at Giant
09:39:35 <Eric> I started with that one 117, but it is overlapped by the lake cam, so it would be obstructed.
09:40:01 <Jake> The two schools of thought can emerge: A. Feather is cycling nicely, showing the system to be active and prepared for eruption. B. Feather keeps erupting! It's wasting energy. Put a plug in it. I wish it would stop so Giant and Mastiff can save energy! :D
09:40:16 <Jake> Daisy
09:41:07 <Jake> SPRINKLER ie
09:41:40 <Larry in Denver> Speaking of plugs... I'm taking a pair of binoculars with me to Norris next month to see if I can spot the jiggle of the concrete plug in the Carnegie Borehole
09:42:51 <Jake> oooh, you could do some research for your new book: The Plugs of Yellowstone
09:43:06 <Eric> haha
09:43:23 <Eric> how many "active" boreholes are their in yellowstone?
09:43:36 <Jimbo Strontium> Thanks Eric. I looked at a map of the streets, and there are two B&Bs nearby. Might be getting some cancellations right now.
09:44:06 <Eric> NP jimbo...I did the same thing ;-),+P%C4%81hoa,+HI+96778/@19.4661876,-154.9035905,1333m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x79523a835074391b:0xa3b4333fcd76ffef!8m2!3d19.4685322!4d-154.9005241
09:44:38 <Larry in Denver> That's the only one that I know of that is leaking so bad. Part of my "mission" this trip is to see as many bore and drill holes as possible. Some are not in places you can go but there are three at Norris
09:45:06 <Eric> Some of them are even listed on google maps Larry
09:45:18 <Eric> as placenames
09:45:51 <Eric> The Fenner drill hole -,-110.7030029,17.45z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x5351d998c7645db1:0xbc4781021f463d55!8m2!3d44.7262352!4d-110.7042812
09:46:15 <Jimbo Strontium> A couple of years ago "up the road", an extended lava flow threatened the main road. They were worried they'd have to close the community pool in Pahoa because if the road was cut, the lifeguards would have a 60-mile drive to get to the pool.
09:46:36 <Larry in Denver> One of the USGS drill holes at Norris is right at the edge of the parking lot
09:46:41 <Jimbo Strontium> That was a long flow that found a crack that took it almost to the road. This is different.
09:46:58 <Dave from B> You guys need to stop talking so I can catch up !:D:D
09:48:42 <Eric> Yes, I remember that flow and our excitement here :-D
09:49:25 <Eric> This lava outbreak looks much more active
09:49:39 <Jake> a lot of the Google map thermal features' labels are not in the right place. That Fenner drill hole shows Realgar Springs just north of it. Realgar Springs is not there!
09:50:02 <Jimbo Strontium> I just noticed on the map where that flow was, they now call it "Pahoa Lava Farms LLC" LOL
09:50:34 <Eric> Nice page...with cool YNP drilling pictures:
09:51:16 <Larry in Denver> Yes, between tourists placing names in the wrong places on Google and the RCN having bad coordinate data for thermal features you have to be careful to verify information on the net. What a shock!

09:55:13 <ynpvisitor117> are you heading to Yellowstone Kitt?
09:55:15 <Kitt> he's headed for Yellowstone
09:55:34 <ynpvisitor117> not you?
09:55:42 <Kitt> no
09:55:51 <ynpvisitor117> when is your first trip?
09:56:15 <Kitt> June 20 unless I go in early June and camp
09:56:21 <Dave from B> Kitt only takes 1 trip a year:D
09:56:34 <1014M> Kitt will it be easier for you to just give us the dates you're not in the park ;)
09:56:34 <Kitt> wrong
09:56:48 <Kitt> I take one long trip and several shorter ones
09:56:58 <ynpvisitor117> she used to come early, yet not so much anymore
09:57:03 <Dave from B> sorry, Kitt...just had to harass you
09:57:38 <Kitt> well with the lovely booking system for lodging, I may be staying much less
09:57:55 <Larry in Denver> Are we going to get simultaneous BH and OF?
09:58:09 <Kitt> by day 2 they were already booked for 4 days that I wanted
09:58:25 <ynpvisitor117> I bet tours are taking the spots
09:59:07 <1014M> I need a reservation for my self and my family of 35 people
09:59:15 <1014M> We're Chinese mormons
09:59:17 <ynpvisitor51> Gazers should get pref treatment. :p:p:p
09:59:21 <1014M> Don't judge
09:59:21 <Kitt> when I made my first reservation on the first day I was told that I could next book on Saturday (that would be tomorrow)
09:59:24 <Eric> Stuff is really starting to burn from kilauea lava
10:00:08 <ynpvisitor117> there is no limit on tours, right?
10:00:27 <ynpvisitor117> I bet they will be sold out by tomorrow
10:00:35 <Joe´> hope the wind stays this direction
10:00:38 <1014M> They're suppose to make there reservations through a different system
10:00:52 <ynpvisitor117> it would still fill up the rooms 1014
10:00:56 <Kitt> the tours had to call in to book
10:01:16 <Kitt> I was told they also could only book 7 nights
10:01:34 <ynpvisitor117> did you have to make a bunch of reservations then to get your whole month?
10:01:53 <Kitt> yes
10:02:06 <Kitt> lots of cabin switching
10:02:11 <ynpvisitor117> bummer
10:02:19 <Eric> It's weird that the website allowed 14 day reservations, but the phone reservations only allowed 7?
10:02:53 <Larry in Denver> I'm really surprised that online allowed 14 day reservations
10:02:55 <Kitt> I was on the website and it only allowed 7 after you went to book
10:03:12 <Eric> I booked 9 nights and graham booked 14
10:03:22 <Eric> It definitely worked for more than 7
10:03:30 <Eric> at least for the OF cabins
10:03:42 <Kitt> Every time I brought it up I was only given a choice of up to 7 nights
10:03:50 <ynpvisitor117> nice you get to come for 9 nights Eric
10:04:15 <ynpvisitor117> Graham did not book 14 nights at once did he?
10:04:21 <Eric> Yes, I am excited to have some quality time
10:04:25 <ynpvisitor117> two separate weeks
10:04:36 <Kitt> I will be seriously looking at trailers this year
10:04:44 <Eric> I believe he did...actually 15 total, but had to do one separately.
10:04:56 <Kent> 1014M you old elk you. I noticed earlier but got distracted.
10:05:59 <ynpvisitor117> one big enough for your extended family Kitt?
10:06:00 <Kitt> bee is waiting for fluffy
10:06:16 <Kitt> no
10:06:27 <Kitt> although it may hold 4
10:07:09 <Kitt> I still hope to stay in the cabin when my favorite Tennessee people are in
10:07:11 <ynpvisitor117> you can only stay at Madison 28 days, right?
10:07:24 <1014M> I'm just picking random wolf numbers, genetically related, each day till I run out of ideas
10:07:33 <Kitt> until June 14
10:07:45 <ynpvisitor117> what happens then?
10:08:02 <Kitt> you are allowed 30 days total, except during 3 summer months
10:08:16 <Kitt> then only allowed a total of 2 weeks
10:08:19 <1014M> :bee:
10:08:20 <Kitt> yay Beehive
10:08:43 <Eric> Lion will probably get jealous
10:08:44 <ynpvisitor51> :heart::bee::heart:
10:08:49 <Larry in Denver> No Beehive bath yet
10:11:04 <Eric> ahh, my dates are earlier, so maybe that is why I could book 9 nights
10:11:12 <Kent> I have got to make a recording to play during Beehive eruptions.
10:11:18 <Kitt> that limit is for camping
10:11:36 <Eric> Your BH mixtape kent? :-D
10:11:46 <Kent> :)
10:11:48 <Kitt> supposedly there is no limit for hotels
10:11:56 <Eric> ohh, interesting
10:12:14 <1014M> Technically if you stay under different names
10:12:15 <Kitt> they just limit booking early on so more people have a chance
10:12:21 <1014M> At different campsites
10:12:27 <1014M> Wonder if they'd know
10:12:31 <Dave from B> Are houseboats allowed at Bridge Bay?
10:12:42 <Kitt> when camping, they take your license plate number, etc.
10:13:40 <Kitt> I haven't camped at Norris, so I don't know how that system works
10:13:41 <1014M> Not sure but there is no limit
10:13:43 <1014M> Seasonal slip
10:14:30 <Kitt> and this year both Mammoth hotel and Fishing Bridge campground are closed
10:14:59 <Kitt> OK Fluffy, it is your turn
10:15:16 <ynpvisitor117> they should put info on the site about their being closed, not full up with reservations. People are confused
10:15:18 <Dave from B> How much further is it from Grant Village CG than Madison CG to OF?
10:15:49 <Joe´> gv is 17 miles i think
10:16:03 <Kitt> I think about the same, but you have to go over a pass
10:16:06 <ynpvisitor117> I have never seen a houseboat on Yellowstone Lake
10:16:38 <Dave from B> But less chance of wildlife blockage
10:16:39 <Kitt> I have had trees fall and major delay getting back from Grant (which is where I like to do laundry)
10:16:43 <Eric> OF
10:17:16 <Eric> You cross the divide twice from GV
10:17:23 <Kitt> when are they putting the boards back on the boardwalk?
10:17:39 <ynpvisitor117> by Memorial day I would guess
10:17:54 <Joe´> there is alwayswest forcamping
10:17:58 <Kitt> Have they even started putting them back on?
10:18:00 <sparekitty> what a beauty!
10:18:35 <Eric> For trailer camping, I prefer West to any other location
10:18:36 <ynpvisitor...> Nice lunchtime treat
10:18:41 <Kitt> have a good day
10:18:55 <Eric> If you want power/water
10:19:24 <Eric> Madison is the most convenient to the basins, IMO
10:19:44 <ynpvisitor51> And has the nicest public restroom. These things are important.
10:20:31 <Eric> Yes, the bathrooms are very nice at madison and the sites are great. Unless you are in a tent and bison stomp on you :-P
10:20:43 <ynpvisitor117> no showers though, Grant has more facilities
10:21:28 <Eric> True 117
10:21:36 <ynpvisitor...> Madison is fun. During the summer it is one of the largest small towns in Wyoming. Ear plugs help a lot. No Internet is silly. The "green" park forces lots of people to drive to OF or West to check on the grandkids.
10:21:47 <Eric> FYI, they are evactuating the geothermal plant near the lava outbreak
10:21:48 <ynpvisitor117> Madison is closer to LGB and Norris, best spot for sure
10:22:14 <ynpvisitor51> I agree with the no internet thing, ridiculous.
10:22:24 <ynpvisitor117> they should have cell service at Madison. No reason Lake should have it and not Madison. Just stupid.
10:22:32 <Eric> Yep...madison should have a cell tower
10:22:36 <ynpvisitor117> not sure there would ever be internet though
10:22:38 <1014M> Line of sight to Washburn
10:22:57 <ynpvisitor117> Lake has more towers than Washburn
10:22:59 <Eric> doesn't it have line of site back to West?
10:23:07 <ynpvisitor51> The whole park should have it. If we want to unplug, let that be our choice.
10:23:09 <ynpvisitor117> you do not get cell until 7 mile bridge
10:23:12 <1014M> Nope, it's blocked
10:23:30 <ynpvisitor117> it's not blocked, it doesn't exist
10:23:39 <ynpvisitor117> at Madison
10:24:05 <ynpvisitor...> There is a phone line that runs right through the Madison campground and 77 different com towers within a quarter mile. It is a silly situation.
10:24:14 <1014M> Looks like there is a tower at Lake
10:24:22 <ynpvisitor117> they lowered the tower at OF years ago, too unsightly
10:24:35 <ynpvisitor117> yes, money talks, there is a tower at Lake
10:25:06 <ynpvisitor117> did you hear that now Lake hotel cabin folks have to check in at Lake Lodge? No riff riff allowed in the hotel anymore to check in...
10:25:45 <1014M> This looks to be about 10 years old but...
10:25:46 <1014M>
10:26:28 <Joe´> you are going to be green whether you like it or not! :)
10:27:19 <ynpvisitor117> they have a newer tower at Lake since 2006
10:28:30 <1014M>
10:28:43 <1014M> You can see from this topo that Mt Haynes blocks the signal from West
10:29:20 <Larry in Denver> One of the problems is the size of the data pipelines into the park. They have limited bandwidth that must be shared between the NPS, Xanterra, the cell phones and the cams. It's older infrastructure and at peak times it is already overloaded.
10:30:13 <1014M> I wonder if people fought phone lines and power in the park as much as the fight expanded cell service?
10:31:14 <1014M> I do love setting my out of office to "I will be unreachable by any means until ...."
10:31:37 <Eric> They actually have plans to improved that pipe Larry...with Mt. Washburn upgrade
10:32:18 <ynpvisitor...> Mammoth told me they are working on a bunch of things to get more bandwidth in the UGB. None involving the new landline from Jackson. Landline way expensive.
10:32:47 <Larry in Denver> Where are we with that? The original proposed colossal rock show steel megastructure was butt ugly
10:32:51 <Eric> Yes, once they improve the tower at Washburn, the relay will be much fatter
10:33:08 <Eric> Meh, it wasn't that bad
10:33:46 <ynpvisitor...> The top of Washburn is currently not a thing of beauty
10:34:12 <Larry in Denver> It totally overwhelmed the appearance of the fire tower. So it got caught up in historic issues last I heard. Is there a new compromise?
10:34:24 <1014M> Agreed, it looks like bulldozer from Hayden
10:36:22 <Eric> That fire tower isn't even that old is it?
10:36:34 <Eric> It's butt ugly as-is
10:36:58 <Larry in Denver> The original structure is quite old but has been modified many times
10:37:20 <Eric> adding easy to maintain steel infrastructure for communication seems like a sound solution.
10:37:31 <1014M>
10:37:39 <1014M> Another image of the cell coverage
10:37:49 <ynpvisitor...> If you are going to run 4 million people a year through the park you have got to have infrastructure. I imagine the park and politicians hear a bunch about lack of UGB service.
10:39:14 <1014M> Voice calls work fine in the park, it's the data portion that seems to not have scaled very well
10:39:25 <ynpvisitor117> I do not understand that article, about the backcountry being blanketed with coverage. Turn your phone off if you do not want coverage
10:39:34 <1014M> *Note on Verizon only, your coverage may vary.
10:39:57 <ynpvisitor117> no one is making anyone take a phone into the back country
10:39:59 <Eric> well, the cell towers still broadcast signals everywhere, even if you turn off your cell
10:40:10 <1014M> *I make not claims to the quality of said article, just an interesting map :)
10:40:13 <ynpvisitor117> you can't hear them
10:40:41 <ynpvisitor117> they have no impact on back country folks except to maybe save them if they are in trouble
10:40:55 <Eric> I think the complaint goes beyond hearing, but to the underlying "natural" state of the park.
10:41:17 <Eric> I am not supporting their argument, just trying to clarify their reasoning
10:42:01 <ynpvisitor...> Backcountry rules annoy me. They shielded the new Lake tower to restrict coverage. If you are rich you can carry a sat phone and have voice and internet anywhere on the planet.
10:42:06 <Eric> I think not having cell coverage along all major routes in the park is negligent.
10:42:33 <1014M> Brought a Sat Phone once, it's about $100 for a 90 minute SIM (3 months service)
10:43:08 <ynpvisitor117> When they had the comment period, I said the whole main loop(s) should have cell service. That did not happen.
10:43:13 <1014M> Great coverage ;)
10:44:56 <ynpvisitor...> I agree Eric. Rangers would love road cell coverage for safety reasons. I am not a cell phone fan. When I retired my greatest joy was becoming untethered.
10:44:56 <Eric> You can buy a $300 device that can trigger SOS via satellite, with no future costs
10:45:50 <Eric> no monthly plan required
10:47:02 <ynpvisitor...> My point is that it is not ethical to deny coverage intentionally to normal people when it is available to those who can afford the higher cost option.
10:47:04 <Eric> ohh, sorry, that was a PLB - personal locator beacon I was looking at. Not sat phone
10:48:16 <1014M> Most folks in the park full time tend to have a cell phone booster now adays
10:48:28 <1014M> weBoost (Formerly Wilson Electronics)
10:48:48 <1014M> Doesn't do much on the Western side of the park though
10:49:00 <1014M> Can boost from Lower Geyser Basin (Mary Mountain Trail)
10:49:07 <1014M> Norris Junction
10:49:35 <ynpvisitor...> Both those locations are useful to have
10:51:41 <1014M> Northern Tier, get cell service at Slough Creek, Ranger Station, Pebble Creek Campground
10:52:16 <Will B> i have found with my booster it doesnt really help much if you go from no service to barely any. Works better if you have a strong signal then move to weak signal. Some times i have even gotten a text without a booster on the freight road as well
10:53:25 <1014M> Yeah laws of physics are still in play but takes a weak signal and (can sometimes) make it something ;)
10:55:03 <1014M>
10:55:26 <1014M> This is the car one, they make different antenna/repeater combos but the base guts are usually the same
10:55:39 <Will B> this is the one i use
11:06:08 <ynpvisitor117> both of those are pricey, Art's being very expensive. Funny they offer you $10 off.
11:10:18 <Eric> Cheap compared to the parts of a normal car.
11:40:03 <Dave from B> Who slowed done Grand by a half hour the last few eruptions? West Triplet?
11:40:30 <Dave from B> 2 in a row at almost 6.5 hours:)
11:40:50 <Kevin L™> It knows you are coming.
11:41:10 <Dave from B> 50+ days for me
11:58:36 <Eric> ok...go already grand!
11:59:17 <Jimbo Strontium> Check out this picture from USGS of the eruption:
11:59:40 <Dave from B> I think we can safely blame the slower Grands on West Triplet and Jim S!
11:59:44 <Eric> crazy
12:00:01 <Eric> ugggg, another turban!
12:00:34 <Dave from B> Jimbo, that's nothin'. Just knock it down with your picture
12:00:52 <Eric> I think it's Kilauea's fault
12:01:08 <Eric> All that lava causing grand to stumble
12:01:22 <Jake> I'm already writing the headlines: "A Geyser in Yellowstone has Stopped Erupting and Scientists Are Worried"
12:02:16 <Eric> doooom
12:02:28 <Jimbo Strontium> The Icelanders did that with a volcano that was going to cut off their port access to the sea on Heimaey, near where Surtsey came out of the ocean)
12:02:45 <Kevin L™> I bet that is what caused all my garden tools to break too.
12:03:07 <Eric> definitely's the apocolypse!
12:03:38 <Kevin L™> Maybe you won't need those 2019 reservations.
12:03:53 <Eric> and if you haven't read it...apocolypsis is a hilarious read
12:04:37 <Eric> Win-win kevin...if it blows, I won't need my money back, if it doesn't then I have a nice reservation :-D
12:04:55 <Kevin L™> True
12:07:04 <Kevin L™> I think next year my interaction with steam will include rails & ties.
12:07:40 <Eric> :-D
12:08:50 <Will B> Jimbo that link is dead
12:12:36 <Eric> it works...just server overloaded
12:14:04 <ynpvisitor49> Why the huge difference in Daisy prediction times?
12:15:59 <Eric> average over last 7 lands in-between those times @ 14:36
12:21:37 <Joe´> turban again
12:21:41 <Kent> Kevin, You wanna go in on one of those motorized scooters? You could pick it up at my place on your way up and then drop it off on your way back. I am not giving up the UGB and I am not even a serious gazer.
12:22:14 <ynpvisitor117> too far into Turban now
12:22:15 <Kent> :) :)
12:25:38 <Eric> What is Jim doing to Grand?
12:26:24 <Dave from B> I agree Kent. I will be wheeled around OF until I'm 6' under.
12:26:52 <Dave from B> Kevin, rails and you are taking up skateboarding in formal wear?:)
12:27:11 <Eric> Longest interval in last 20...will probably end up being longest interval in last 100!
12:27:31 <Dave from B> I can hear Jim now
12:33:34 <Dave from B> Eric, the next Turban is the one
12:33:42 <Eric> Sure dave ;-P
12:33:59 <Eric> we are now the longest in the last 100 I believe
12:34:22 <Dave from B> I'll wager the minimum...$0.01
12:37:18 <Eric> faisy
12:37:47 <Dave from B> almost time for liftoff
12:38:32 <ynpvisitor117> maybe it will go 8 hours
12:38:52 <Kevin L™> Yea! I got my tiller running again. That is the one I needed the most.
12:39:25 <Eric> There we go...added longest field to the /gt command
12:39:31 <ynpvisitor117> too bad Jim does not include comments, like low pool
12:39:38 <Joe´> another turban
12:39:40 <1014M> Wow at 7h 28m since last grand
12:39:48 <Eric> ohhh boy
12:40:26 <Eric> longest in last 500 is 8h4m
12:40:38 <Eric> we are at 7h29m
12:40:41 <Kevin L™> Hope this isn't the new normal.
12:40:48 <ynpvisitor117> wow, that is a long time since a long Grand
12:41:14 <ynpvisitor117> so we wait...
12:41:25 <Dave from B> Eric, could you tutor me on your new field, please
12:41:34 <ynpvisitor117> going to be outside the GT window
12:41:53 <ynpvisitor...> Sorry Dave. It was a good guess, eh prediction
12:41:58 <Eric> just use /gt as normal, next to average there is a new field called longest
12:42:10 <Eric> it will give you the longest single interval in that range
12:42:13 <1014M> April 3rd
12:42:21 <1014M> Last time there was a more than 7h 30m Grand
12:42:41 <Eric> So this will be the longest grand interval in the last 400 for sure
12:43:03 <1014M> 8h4m March 9th
12:43:23 <ynpvisitor117> where does it show? Do you have to go the actual eruption?
12:44:16 <1014M> 7h 30m isn't that big of an outlier though looking at all eruptions since Feb 1st
12:44:17 <Eric> the 8h4m interval happened on 3/9
12:44:31 <Eric> ohh, 1014 beat me :-D
12:44:54 <1014M> It's a race for who can get to first ;)
12:45:34 <Eric> No just type /gt grand 12 and it will show you the longest single interval in the last 12 eruptions
12:45:44 <Eric> same goes for longer series
12:46:24 <Eric> I was just using the /gt feature here since I added the longest feature :-D
12:47:11 <ynpvisitor117> thanks
12:47:12 <Jake> now is the time for strong leadership: the GT prediction will not be wrong
12:48:07 <ynpvisitor117> too late Jake
12:48:08 <ynpvisitor...> Get in there quick and tinker with it
12:48:29 <Jake> well, I tried
12:48:49 <Dave from B> I can't find I need to refresh?
12:49:00 <ynpvisitor...> Fire on static
12:49:35 <Eric> yes, refresh is needed to get access to the longest interval Dave
12:49:38 <Jake> I meant the Riverside prediction
12:50:41 <ynpvisitor49> New here. GT has a bunch of Grand eruptions recently being 11 hours apart. Why do you treat the 8 hr 4 min interval as the recent longest?
12:51:13 <Eric> those are most likely double intervals, the eruption was missed
12:51:24 <ynpvisitor72> the 11 hous is a double
12:51:27 <ynpvisitor49> ok
12:52:14 <Dave from B> Hi least your keyboard got your name right:)
12:52:42 <Emily> hi
12:53:08 <Dave from B> Emily, you looking to get Giant off your bucket list this year?
12:53:31 <Emily> for sure
12:54:17 <Emily> got lots going on. Including weasling iceland in but Ill be there around labor day
12:57:20 <ynpvisitor...> Eric, did we get a new static when I wasn't looking?
12:58:15 <Joe´> turban again
12:58:43 <ynpvisitor117> yes, he took away the wrong west entrance static to put it there
12:59:13 <ynpvisitor...> where is new?
12:59:39 <ynpvisitor117> West Entrance is gone and the volcano action is in
12:59:47 <ynpvisitor117> on static cams on this page
12:59:50 <ynpvisitor...> thanks
12:59:59 <ynpvisitor117> so it looks like it will be 8 hours
13:00:02 <ynpvisitor117> wow
13:00:21 <ynpvisitor117> without any delays, at least none noted
13:03:09 <Eric> 8h49m interval on 2/26
13:03:34 <Dave from B> Kevin, don't you have another project in the depot?
13:03:43 <Emily> when was the last 10<
13:05:43 <Eric> on 4/8 we had a 9h5m interval....that was probably not a double
13:06:53 <Kevin L™> I have been in the depot most of the morning. Back in to watch grown men and young kids crash expensive trucks
13:08:05 <Dave from B> So, 4 weeks since an interval this long
13:08:22 <Art> Trail cam video is up on FB
13:08:28 <Emily> yes
13:08:52 <Art>
13:09:14 <Jake> it's times like these I tell people waiting how rare of an event they're experiencing. Something like a 1 in 500 chance! No one is ever excited.
13:10:43 <Art> We tried exposing that to folks during a 9 hour interval, in February once. They weren’t impressed either.
13:10:45 <Eric> I am going to have to help Bill with frame rates!
13:11:03 <Eric> Holy smokes that is rapid fire frames
13:11:55 <Art> Explains not exposing. Ugh autocorrect
13:12:07 <Art> Explaining. Omg.
13:12:37 <Joe´> dont be exposing here
13:13:15 <Joe´> we wont be impressed either :)
13:13:18 <Eric> exposing and not being impressed is not a good combination there art :-P
13:14:37 <Jake> where is that trail cam located down the hill and across the runoff from the Steamboat viewing platform?
13:15:01 <Art> You guys wanna see some SPUT? They just ran.

13:40:02 <Jake> the Steamboat timelapse is underwhelming to me, what am I missing? without the temperature and other data, I would have a hard time declaring that an eruption
13:40:14 <Jimbo Strontium> Gotta sign off for now - rift zone eruption location is moving
13:46:11 <Eric> well, you have the temp data
13:46:18 <Eric> and the guage data

15:19:26 <Betty> I like this
15:19:42 <ynpvisitor999> I would almost say... Mastiff?
15:19:49 <Kevin L™> 6.9 was right on the housing subdivision. Talk about Shake & Bake®.
15:20:32 <Betty> I think too big for Mastiff
15:21:03 <Betty> I think in (Giant) dimensions :-)
15:21:14 <ynpvisitor999> this seems to be Giant
15:21:35 <LETS GO CAPS> nice
15:21:37 <Betty> I hope Micah is there

15:27:56 <Betty> Will`?
15:28:08 <Emily> I know he was there a few days ago
15:28:22 <LETS GO CAPS> Glad Tara got the start time
15:28:33 <ynpvisitor999> with that just over 9 days interval, can we say a Giant active period is on?
15:28:34 <Kevin L™> This is a beautiful shot of it.
15:28:34 <LETS GO CAPS> i think Will was only there 1 day
15:28:44 <Betty> bummer
15:28:55 <ynpvisitor27> :D
15:29:18 <Eric mobile> Is giant regular now

15:31:40 <Eric mobile> On a nice day
15:31:42 <Emily> Micah is at Giant
15:31:44 <LETS GO CAPS> glad Micah got it as he was wattching the platform quite a bit, nice daylight too
15:32:18 <LETS GO CAPS> first Sput to see Giant :) whos next?
15:32:18 <ynpvisitor27> we can all thank Dave from B. He was asking about Giant this morning
15:32:43 <ynpvisitor105> We need view enhancement or the cam moved!
15:32:45 <Emily> Me! Me!
15:32:45 <ynpvisitor83> except Dave thought Giant liked the weekend
15:32:47 <Betty> he said it was going this weekend
15:32:51 <Emily> hehehe, I have a few months
15:32:56 <LETS GO CAPS> this is the weekend
15:33:12 <Betty> yep
15:33:14 <ynpvisitor105> It's after 5 on Friday. It is the weekend.
15:33:21 <ynpvisitor83> this is Friday
15:33:24 <LETS GO CAPS> daisy due too...haha
15:33:28 <Kevin L™> 11:12:06 ‹Dave from B› Anyone thinking Giant eruption this weekend besides me?
15:33:31 <Ryan> If you count Emma as a sput (I do) she was the first. :P
15:33:47 <LETS GO CAPS> i did say 55 more Giants by the end of the year ... so just 54 left now
15:33:50 <Betty> It is Saturday here. Definitely weekend :-)
15:33:58 <ynpvisitor999> Let's see what Steamboat does over the weekend
15:34:03 <ynpvisitor105> :)
15:34:05 <Art> 22 days till we get there and couldn’t be more excited!
15:34:48 <ynpvisitor999> GHP apparently started @ 1708
15:35:04 <Betty> September is soo long to go :-(
15:35:43 <ynpvisitor105> Even with the trees that was a good show.
15:35:57 <Ryan> I leave for out of the country tomorrow morning. So good luck on the next week. I'll have no contact.
15:36:00 <Emily> I have a feeling when i am in colorodo I will be seeing what it does
15:36:12 <ynpvisitor999> we're likely not even half-way yet, 105
15:36:15 <Emily> and then maybe darting over
15:36:22 <ynpvisitor31> It is all connected to that hula volcano.
15:36:22 <LETS GO CAPS> first Giant seen from the start in this series
15:36:28 <ynpvisitor27> darn winds
15:36:30 <LETS GO CAPS> seen from the start of the GHP i meant
15:36:53 <Kevin L™> Thank you Noah Gragson for crashing your truck and making the race go into overtime. I would have been feeding chickens.
15:37:08 <ynpvisitor105> :)
15:37:32 <ynpvisitor31> Starving the poor chickens? Not going to get any eggs doing that.
15:37:58 <LETS GO CAPS> Tara's summeris off to a good start
15:38:21 <ynpvisitor999> @ 1713, when steam from the Grotto-Giant area disappeared: 17:13:38 ‹ynpvisitor999› and gone. Grotto start?
15:38:32 <ynpvisitor31> Now if we could just jump start sawmill and plume!
15:38:51 <ynpvisitor999> didn't know a GHP was going on
15:39:15 <ynpvisitor27> re. sawmill - I do like regular Grands though
15:40:54 <ynpvisitor999> Mastiff was @ 1711
15:41:27 <LETS GO CAPS> tara slowly catching up on posts
15:41:34 <ynpvisitor999> indeed
15:41:40 <LETS GO CAPS> haha just wondered how loud the Micah screaming was
15:41:44 <Kevin L™> We need speed posting.
15:41:53 <ynpvisitor999> double Mastiff, 1711 and 1717
15:41:57 <ynpvisitor27> Have there been any Normal Function Giants so far this year, or have they all been Mastiff Function?
15:42:11 <Kevin L™> I would think there will be a video where you can hear him Graham.
15:42:17 <ynpvisitor999> I'll have a look, 27
15:42:18 <Kitt> cool this is the 2nd double Mastiff
15:42:36 <Kitt> I hope she is enjoying the geyser
15:42:54 <Kitt> It is nice she posted on GT
15:43:45 <Kitt> when it is all done, she'll probably add more information
15:44:19 <Joe> .
15:44:33 <ynpvisitor999> Seems like we have 3 Mastiff function Giants and 3 unknown function (out of which 2 wc times and 1 0000 ? A)
15:44:45 <ynpvisitor27> Thanks 999
15:45:57 <ynpvisitor999> I wonder when Giant chooses to go in the Grotto cycle for this (hopefully) active period
15:47:18 <Emily> back to homework
15:47:18 <Kevin L™> How long until we see a "news" story about how this means Yellowstone will blow up?
15:47:29 <Emily> I am guessing 1-2 days
15:48:03 <ynpvisitor27> I think Hawaii has distracted everyone
15:48:21 <Casey> Why did I go grocery shopping on the way home from work today? Got the text message in the middle of the bread aisle.
15:49:45 <Kitt> that may be daisy
15:49:45 <ynpvisitor999> Daisy ns
15:49:47 <Betty> hi Casey, it´s been a while :-)
15:50:05 <LETS GO CAPS> this is only the second seen before the start. sounds like all the energy is on the N side, so maybe all Mastiff
15:50:10 <ynpvisitor999> Tara got 1749 for Daisy
15:50:12 <Casey> Hi Betty! Yeah, this working in an office thing is killer.
15:50:37 <LETS GO CAPS> Micah, look, Daisy is erupting
15:50:47 <LETS GO CAPS> i wonder how many little sputs Micah saw too
15:51:14 <Ryan> Micah was watching Turtle when Giant started ;)
15:51:36 <LETS GO CAPS> uhuh, did Turtle erupt?
15:52:02 <LETS GO CAPS> at least he wasnt checking the GIP
15:52:46 <LETS GO CAPS> so the 1713 steam was Mastiff
15:52:57 <Betty> yep
15:53:43 <ynpvisitor999> initially thought Grotto start, nothing all to special until a large plume appeared again a few minutes later
15:53:48 <LETS GO CAPS> hope its not like 2010, 6 day interval and then 5 years
15:54:48 <ynpvisitor999> Lion is heating up again
15:54:51 <Casey> I refuse to even consider that as a possibility
15:54:52 <Betty> hopefully not!
15:55:51 <ynpvisitor999> This is actually my first ever Giant seen from the start. My closest one before was an hour after the eruption ended
15:55:57 <LETS GO CAPS> took me 8 years to see my second
15:56:29 <ynpvisitor999> which was a few months ago, I might add as well
15:56:58 <Betty> at least you have seen ONE
15:57:18 <kcmule> congrats
15:57:33 <LETS GO CAPS> i saw the steam cloud after all the dingingand then checked my phone .... wheres the Giant text ... haha
15:58:34 <LETS GO CAPS> still no oblong eruptions :(
15:59:04 <ynpvisitor999> is Giant's water able to go above the treeline during an eruption?
15:59:14 <Kitt> yes
15:59:29 <ynpvisitor999> at the very start, I assume
16:01:13 <LETS GO CAPS> i guess iots the second from the start of the hot period, Andrew saw the whole hot period too
16:03:31 <LETS GO CAPS> just about the same timeline, Mastif was about 3 and 10m after Feather and Giant 2m later
16:04:45 <LETS GO CAPS> although Andrew just saw depth charging with no pausing whereas today we had hot periods
16:08:17 <Art> No Grotto this time
16:08:41 <LETS GO CAPS> true
16:09:15 <LETS GO CAPS> Russel was there earlier, hope he was still around too
16:09:49 <LETS GO CAPS> he has 2 GHP and two Grottos today, so hopefully he was still around
16:10:13 <LETS GO CAPS> GT is out geo-locator
16:11:50 <Art> Wonder what the Oblong does/is doing before and after eruption
16:12:24 <LETS GO CAPS> all we know is it doesnt erupt ... haha
16:12:25 <Art> Not sure why I added a the to that sentence...
16:12:58 <LETS GO CAPS> although I do have a pic from 2008 with both erupting
16:13:22 <LETS GO CAPS> but no reported oblong eruptions for a longgggg time
16:14:09 <Art> Maybe that's it now ;)
16:14:17 <Kitt> yes
16:14:32 <LETS GO CAPS> Oct 29 last seen, Nov last report on the WC
16:14:34 <Kitt> I have seen it from Old Faithful Lodge's porch
16:14:41 <LETS GO CAPS> Nov 28
16:15:02 <Kitt> water over trees from Giant
16:15:26 <LETS GO CAPS> thats the wrong view Kitt
16:15:33 <Art> Oblong was kinda messed up end of last year too but not totally dormant
16:15:37 <Kevin L™> It is not visible from inside Lower Hams when you are are the counter eating a milkshake.
16:15:43 <Casey> A. B. Guptill agreed that it is "The Oblong" if that makes you feel any better
16:15:49 <Casey> "The Oblong.—Quite near the river bank and a short distance south from the Giant is situated the Oblong"
16:16:02 <Kitt> In fact I called Grand over the radio and then my brain ran through previous calls and I realized that Grand had erupted 2 hours before
16:16:32 <Kitt> My boys and I had waited there all morning
16:16:34 <Art> Thanks Casey, I feel better now ;)
16:16:42 <ynpvisitor999> hmm... Giant seems to have stolen some heat from other geysers
16:16:55 <Kevin L™> Go Aurum!
16:17:15 <Kitt> unfortunately a gazer saw us that afternoon when we came in for a meal and told us giant wouldn't erupt that day
16:17:16 <ynpvisitor999> they don't seem to be eager to erupt right now
16:17:30 <ynpvisitor999> par Sprinkler then
16:18:07 <Kitt> it erupted at about 1830 that day but at least a lovely couple was having a dinner picnic in the cage
16:18:14 <Kitt> Old Faithful
16:18:27 <ynpvisitor999> 1818
16:18:36 <Kitt> I asked them what it felt like to not know
16:19:01 <Kitt> they said they figured something was going to happen when water was above the cone
16:19:34 <Kitt> I still got to see it and I am glad they were able to enjoy it
16:19:53 <LETS GO CAPS> hehe....did they have a wet dinner
16:20:09 <Kitt> no they were smart and moved
16:20:30 <LETS GO CAPS> when do you get there Kitt this year?
16:20:52 <Kitt> June 20th unless I go in early and camp at Madison
16:21:58 <LETS GO CAPS> well hopefully Giant gets settled in for the summer
16:22:04 <Kitt> rats, I had hoped Carol and Bill made it to Giant
16:23:24 <Betty> cannot keep my eyes open anymore. Have a great evening all. Night
16:23:35 <Kitt> night Betty
16:23:45 <Kitt> may you have good Giant dreams
16:23:57 <Betty> thx :-)
16:23:58 <ynpvisitor999> night Betty
16:24:18 <Kevin L™> Night Betty. Glad you made it for Giant.
16:25:19 <Kitt> so we had a February, April, and May eruption of Giant
16:25:32 <Kitt> I thought we also had a March one?
16:25:46 <LETS GO CAPS> and maybe another which we are not sure about
16:26:29 <Kitt> why are we not sure - the time or what?
16:26:50 <LETS GO CAPS> could have been an unobserved eruption
16:27:08 <LETS GO CAPS> not sure the signs were replaced
16:27:54 <Kitt> oh
16:30:34 <Kitt> I didn't see Mike K. or Andrew B. listed on Tara's entry for Giant
16:31:23 <LETS GO CAPS> i havent heard that Mike has been around, except for Norris
16:31:36 <LETS GO CAPS> glad Bob got it as he was there earlier
16:31:55 <LETS GO CAPS> 63m duration and done
16:32:06 <LETS GO CAPS> now what? up to Steamboat?
16:32:08 <Kitt> Worland weather
16:32:17 <Kitt> the sun is shining and it is raining
16:32:46 <Kevin L™> Do the fights always increase as the playoff go on Graham?
16:33:06 <Kitt> well have a good evening
16:33:12 <Kitt> night all
16:33:19 <Kevin L™> Knight Kitt
16:33:36 <ynpvisitor999> night Kitt
16:52:22 <ynpvisitor999> I'm calling it a day for today, bye all
16:53:49 <ynpvisitor68> Kevin - pm
17:07:19 <LETS GO CAPS> looks like Mike K's GHP should be a note?
17:07:30 <LETS GO CAPS> i see he was around but not listed by Tara
17:08:34 <ynpvisitor117> nice if he got to see it too
17:08:45 <ynpvisitor117> Andrew might have started work today
17:08:55 <LETS GO CAPS> not sure he did, i would think Tara would have listed him
17:13:12 <ynpvisitor117> I just looked. Nice Scott got it.
17:13:47 <ynpvisitor68> I thought VEC was closed at 5, just found out it closes at 6pm
17:14:25 <ynpvisitor68> In future if someone would call when one of the bigger /rarer geysers erupts they would appreciate it
17:14:54 <ynpvisitor68> they didn't know about Giant until too late
17:15:22 <ynpvisitor68> I am off to dinner
17:15:25 <ynpvisitor68> night
17:21:28 <ynpvisitor27> Iwonde how Castle looks
17:22:03 <ynpvisitor27> wonder*
17:32:48 <ynpvisitor10> Did VEC not have radio on?
