03:39:53 <Emily> hi
03:40:41 <Emily> DG, have you gotten to the park?
03:41:15 <ynpvisitor999®> not yet, but hopefully in 6-8 years... (or less)
03:46:08 <ynpvisitor999®> SC might be ie
03:55:15 <ynpvisitor999®> short interval for Bee
04:08:46 <Emily> is that grand at 110?
04:10:55 <Betty> I cannot tell. Too dark for me. back there. DG usually find those, and DaveM
04:11:05 <Emily> ok
04:14:11 <Emily> cant tell castle
04:14:51 <Betty> either me
04:22:26 <Betty> I should put in a note that the sandwich board fell excactly at 2am :-)
04:23:14 <Betty> could not tell why it did
04:27:14 <ynpvisitor25> I bet WIND!
04:27:49 <Emily> bunch of frat girls were up having a party int he stret last night
04:28:05 <Emily> at 2 thats the cause
04:28:15 <Betty> think so too. Pole shook a lot
04:28:34 <Betty> haha, Emily :-)
04:28:38 <Betty> Lion
04:35:48 <Betty> 0418 Lion is ini, duration is longer than 6 min
04:36:43 <Emily> thanks betty
04:36:57 <Emily> I can tell in the basin but not on the webcam
04:37:31 <Emily> daisy around 0630 I missed it
04:37:35 <ynpvisitor999®> I'll try to find Castle on the overnight - likely between 2300 and 0100
04:37:57 <Emily> and also please confirm or deny my grand entry
04:38:09 <ynpvisitor999®> will do
04:38:54 <ynpvisitor999®> by accident also found SC @ 2304 ie
04:46:07 <ALL CAPS> morning
04:46:15 <ynpvisitor999®> morning

04:46:33 <Betty> morning Graham
04:47:47 <ALL CAPS> SteveO posted Turban 644
04:48:04 <ynpvisitor999®> Grand did start @ 0110, seems to be a 1b
04:48:05 <Betty> yup
04:48:24 <ynpvisitor999®> also, Castle @ 0106, becoming very apparant during Grand's eruption
04:56:20 <ALL CAPS> does the steamboat watch start today and then full force tomorrow?
04:57:41 <ynpvisitor999®> most likely
04:57:56 <ynpvisitor999®> it's been almost 6 days since the last Steamboat now
04:59:00 <ALL CAPS> yep, so shortest interval would be about 0400 tomorrow
04:59:17 <ALL CAPS> but more likely Monday night
04:59:46 <ALL CAPS> i see the mosquito report isnt good
04:59:59 <Betty> I think it does not look promising enough for a short interval
05:00:11 <ynpvisitor999®> time to bring mosquito nets then :)
05:00:37 <Emily> Hopefully it gets better by the 4th
05:00:57 <Emily> Havent noticed the wyoming airforce being super bad since 2011
05:06:37 <ynpvisitor999®> something I find interesting, is that Echinus seems to be slowly heating up (from about 25°C 30 days ago to about 35°C now) and that temperature fluctuations seem to be increasing a few days before Steamboat and then decreasing 0-2 days before Steamboat (could also be coincident, though)
05:08:22 <Emily> turban 0707
05:09:12 <ynpvisitor999®> Porkchop's temperature has been gradually increasing over the last 30 days it seems
05:09:52 <ynpvisitor999®> Opalescent's temperature seems to be quite stable though
05:11:02 <ynpvisitor999®> I have no idea how close the Vixen soil logger is to Vixen, but it might be picking up eruptions of Vixen
05:11:10 <Betty> OF
05:12:15 <ynpvisitor999®> looks like Steamboat started having heavy minors overnight: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/captures/yellowstone/steamboat-24h.png

05:20:54 <ALL CAPS> 4th July is a buggy time so I would go prepared for it. Kit had her mosquito net out there already especially as you are sitting there all day
05:21:13 <ALL CAPS> when we had the thunderstorm they came out in force
05:22:51 <ynpvisitor99> Report from the Northern Range yesterday was that mosquitos were bad.
05:26:03 <Betty> Lion
05:26:10 <Betty> poof
05:29:30 <ALL CAPS> thats a good reason to stay awy from the Northern Range
05:30:04 <Emily> heading for a D0
05:30:13 <ynpvisitor99> That and no geysers :)
05:30:16 <Betty> Lion
05:34:25 <ALL CAPS> no D
05:38:09 <ynpvisitor99> I see GT reached their initial funding goal. This is good.
05:39:19 <ynpvisitor99> We lost out Roman :( By #10
05:39:30 <ALL CAPS> the Patron funding?
05:39:42 <ynpvisitor99> Yes. I just looked.
05:40:55 <ynpvisitor99> GT is well worth $100 a month from the group. This is where the Hallmark group ought to be putting some of their money.
05:45:26 <ALL CAPS> glad the costs are covered. the funding request wasnt executed very well, there ws confusion when it came up
05:47:06 <Emily> 100$ is the minimum. GT gas done a lot for gazing
05:49:47 <ynpvisitor99> Everyone uses it, gazers, tourists, NPS people (laptop behind the desk at the OF VC) scientists, history people. This is where the park's donated money ought to be going IMHO :)
05:50:39 <Emily> I know patreon from my podcasts
05:53:21 <Betty> Grand
05:53:29 <ynpvisitor97> Grand
05:53:34 <ynpvisitor99> Grand
05:58:41 <ALL CAPS> its not clear GT needs more than 100 to cover the hosting costs
05:59:05 <ALL CAPS> the goal was to cover out of pocket costs, not labor
06:00:46 <ynpvisitor99> I think Jake said there are lots of things they would like to do if they had the funds, but there is no sense putting money there if it is not needed.
06:02:06 <ALL CAPS> dome
06:06:24 <ynpvisitor99> That settles that.

06:46:26 <Kevin L™> Berchtesgaden is beautiful today. Even loos like snow on Watzmann.
06:46:53 <Betty> hey, you hate snow!
06:47:33 <Kevin L™> It is OK in a picture that is 8000 miles away!
06:47:52 <Betty> now I get it :-)
06:48:57 <Kevin L™> Kehlsteinhaus cam is nice. I love the view around the valley.
07:01:24 <Betty> Daisy
07:13:40 <ALL CAPS> ready for Game 6 tonight Kevin?
07:13:47 <ALL CAPS> oh, never mind :)
07:14:01 <ALL CAPS> what will we do instead?
07:14:30 <Betty> lol, you´re cruel, Graham :-)
07:15:06 <Kevin L™> I did have a fine steak dinner on you Graham.
07:15:14 <ALL CAPS> did the knights celebrate their great season, they deserve to do that
07:17:17 <Kevin L™> Yes they did. It was a great season, far better than any of us figured. I think they will be the Vegas team as they were Vegas born (not a team that moved) and I think they will be around for a long time. They are very community minded and have fit very well with the community.
07:17:59 <Betty> out for a swim. bbl
07:18:28 <ALL CAPS> i am sure football will catch on too
07:20:51 <Kevin L™> I am not sure. The Raiders came in demanding a billion dollar stadium they they want to rent for a buck a year. We had sales tax increased to build it (and that is never going to go away). If you get a room in Nevada you are paying an extra 1% to fund their stadium. 10 years from now they will move back to Oakland. Wish they weren't coming.
07:21:28 <Kevin L™> Go Stampeders!
07:21:49 <Kevin L™> Where is that Tim Horton's?
07:31:33 <ALL CAPS> NFL is still a big $ business. Vegas will get a superbowl sometime, right?
07:54:02 <Kevin L™> I doubt it but who knows?
08:05:20 <ALL CAPS> they like visiting new stadiums
08:06:46 <ALL CAPS> its in 2023
08:13:41 <Kevin L™> Oh goodie. :P
08:44:10 <ynpvisitor25> think everyone is at steamboat? No Giant or FnM watches today :)
08:45:02 <Kevin L™> Since Giant went yesterday Steamboat would be the place to watch.
08:46:09 <ynpvisitor4> bhi

09:21:50 <Kevin L™> I do have 4 tons of new cold air on my roof!
09:22:01 <Betty> wow
09:23:27 <Kevin L™> Wallet is considerably lighter too.
09:23:45 <Betty> Plate ie?
09:45:44 <ynpvisitor117> Where is Dave?
09:46:06 <Kevin L™> May be at Steamboat
09:46:15 <Eric> Hopefully not yet
09:49:47 <ynpvisitor117> If he came in from Gardner, he is stuck in construction traffic. If he came in from West, he is stuck in a bison jam.
09:51:24 <Eric> No construction on weekends
09:51:38 <Eric> He is coming in early tomorrow I believe
09:51:51 <Eric> Activity is picking up, which is awesome
09:52:07 <Eric> Everything is looking "normal"
09:52:09 <ynpvisitor117> Still has to be traffic. DOn't they have some one way sections?
09:52:30 <Eric> I wouldn't think so if they aren't actively working.
09:52:45 <Eric> But I skipped that route on my trip.
09:53:07 <ynpvisitor117> How do you kno wit is normal? I have not een any reports today.
09:53:24 <Eric> I think the madison herd has mostly moved up to fountain flats area now too
09:53:37 <Eric> Looking at the logger data
09:53:41 <ynpvisitor117> Good for the Bison
09:53:49 <ynpvisitor117> OK
09:53:58 <Eric> The activity is picking up and logger is starting to read the runoff channel temps
09:55:43 <ynpvisitor2> The bison are moving back and forth between Madison and Fountain Flats. Eventually they will go down Mary Mountain trail and stay in Hayden.
09:56:04 <Eric> ugg, that is not fun :-(
09:56:14 <ynpvisitor2> They are also moving back and forth between Madison and Norris.
09:56:47 <Eric> Ugg, that makes for some horrible driving from OF to Steamboat then :-(
09:56:50 <ynpvisitor2> So trying to get from Norris to OF was a 3 hour journey for some tourists the other day
09:57:05 <Eric> This week #2?
09:57:20 <ynpvisitor2> Any Steamboat hopefuls should stay at Canyon or Norris
09:57:43 <ynpvisitor117> Still waiting for them to post the job of Bison Reflector Installer.
09:57:43 <ynpvisitor2> Yes, this week is TERRIBLE for jams
09:58:09 <Eric> dang....well, hopefully gazers get up early and avoid most traffic tomorrow
09:59:15 <ynpvisitor2> maybe the bison will be bedded down in the morning as it is going to be COLD
09:59:41 <ynpvisitor117> Daisy seem sfizzy
09:59:46 <ynpvisitor2> Most gazers go early, it will be the return trip that could be delayed
10:01:04 <ynpvisitor117> Bison kebobs at the new Norris Food Cart.
10:01:52 <Kevin L™> Are you allowed to eat roadkill bison in the cage?
10:02:33 <ynpvisitor117> You can even cook it with wood you gather next to the road.
10:03:03 <ynpvisitor117> As long as the fire is in a designated camp site
10:05:05 <ynpvisitor117> So who is going to crash first today? The pace car?
10:07:21 <Betty> there was a wolf by FLD this morning
10:08:01 <ynpvisitor117> fld?
10:08:17 <Betty> Firehole Lake Drive
10:11:45 <ynpvisitor10> Might be a Wapiti wuff. They do like to wander
10:14:05 <ynpvisitor117> Formula 1 wreck. First lap
10:17:45 <Kevin L™> Looks like the thunder is going to crash first at Nascar.
10:18:30 <ynpvisitor117> It they were professional drivers, they could handle it.
10:20:25 <ynpvisitor117> Steamboat is due, the Geyser Gazer 500.
10:20:37 <Kevin L™> The Indy pace car crash last week was too funny. Not often do you see a company executive destroy a $100,000 Vette.
10:21:30 <Kevin L™> That would be a good race for Stanley Cup Steamers!
10:21:42 <ynpvisitor117> The difference with Gazers, they tarp the car after the race, not before.
10:22:48 <ynpvisitor117> They will put a new nose on it and sell it to some unsuspecting person.
10:32:21 <Kevin L™> I bet they could still get big bucks for the wrecked version.
11:14:42 <Betty> OF
11:26:33 <Dave from B™> Hi Betty, Kevin
11:26:45 <Betty> hi Dave
11:26:54 <ynpvisitor117> We thought you were on te road
11:27:05 <Betty> already packed?
11:27:30 <ynpvisitor117> Is that a Giant minor again?
11:27:47 <Dave from B™> Leave at 0400 tomorrow
11:28:18 <Dave from B™> Bike tires have air....cold weather snow pants are in the box
11:28:27 <ynpvisitor117> The roads are open then?
11:28:30 <Betty>
11:28:35 <Dave from B™> Not happy about the cold temps
11:28:53 <Dave from B™> What roads are closed?
11:29:15 <ynpvisitor117> Don't they roll them up at night?
11:29:53 <ynpvisitor117> As in who in their right mind is up at 0400?
11:30:24 <ynpvisitor117> Not just up, but outside and ready to drive anyplace?
11:33:33 <Dave from B™> 0400 is onjly an hour earlier than I normally get up
11:34:17 <Betty> same here
11:48:10 <Dave from B™> Hi Michael
11:50:16 <Michael> Hi Dave. Are you planning a mad dash into the park?
11:50:58 <Dave from B™> Leaving at 0400 tomorrow...grab campsite at Norris and hope to be at Steamboat at 0900
11:51:25 <Dave from B™> 25F Tuesday morning
11:51:32 <Dave from B™> High Monday low 40s
11:51:37 <Betty> brrrrrr
11:52:04 <Dave from B™> It was 90 here yesterday. My body isn't going to be happy tomorrow
11:52:46 <ynpvisitor25> I'd take 40 over 90
11:52:52 <Betty> you have pocket handwarmers?
11:53:05 <ynpvisitor117> 40 in Wyoming is like 90 in Montana
11:53:07 <Dave from B™> Yes, I do
11:53:18 <Betty> good
11:55:00 <Michael> Good luck! I 'll put in a request for an eruption during a break in the clouds at about 11:30.
11:55:57 <ynpvisitor25> but wait, then there's no need for the campsite :D
11:57:23 <Dave from B™> Have to be prepared just in case Steamboat is stubborn
11:58:09 <Michael> The campsite is an insurance premium. You hope not to have to use it.
11:59:47 <Dave from B™> Yep. Getting it for 2 nights just ion case. I'm hoping to spend the night out in the basin but sometimes my body tells me otherwise
12:02:36 <Michael> I wonder what the shortest interval is between big pushes. You might wait until the first big push after dark, then get a couple hours catnap.
12:03:21 <Dave from B™> That's what I'm thinking. We have a Toyota highlander. We can put the seats down and sleep in it at the CG.
12:03:39 <Dave from B™> I would feel safe for 2-3 hours. That could really help
12:08:11 <Michael> Of course, you'd have to stick around for 10-15 minutes after a push to make sure that it isn't actually the start of an eruption sequence.
12:09:15 <Dave from B™> Yep...that is why it is 2-3 hours. Pushes seem to be 4-5 hours apart. But things seem so much louder at night and it is hard to see with more steam....runoff volume is the key
12:09:54 <Michael> But in general I think the catnap plan brings a bit of method to the madness. And it prevents night #2 (if it gets there) from being a complete disaster.
12:11:02 <ynpvisitor25> and work on Wednesday Dave from B™?
12:11:29 <Dave from B™> It is amazing how fatigue can set in being there for 18 hours the last time in 1.5 days. The heat really took a toll on everyone
12:12:04 <Dave from B™> I can miss Wed if i need to....I'm expecting Steamboat Mon 1900 to Tuesday 0300
12:12:59 <ynpvisitor25> good luck, I hope it is in daylight!!!
12:13:27 <Dave from B™> me, too....won't be as photogenic as the last one but I'm okay with that
12:16:27 <ynpvisitor117> You can sleep in the parking lot under the tarp.
12:19:06 <Dave from B™> After what happened last eruption, my car will never be with spitting distance of Steamboat
12:20:42 <ynpvisitor117> You have anti bear devices on your bikes?
12:20:57 <Dave from B™> We have spray
12:23:48 <Dave from B™> I have to go. Have a great day everyone. I will be on later this evening.
12:24:48 <Betty> Have fun tomorrow and I hope you get Steamboat! bye Dave

16:00:11 <ynpvisitor111> Is Steamboat going to wait for Dave?
16:04:43 <Michael> I really hope so.
16:05:39 <Michael> If it can do something like Memorial Day weekend (29 hours from enormous minor to the major eruption), that would work out well.
16:12:08 <Michael> 27 hours would be better, in case Tara has to leave for work at 1600.
16:15:14 <ynpvisitor111> I think Dave wants it about noon before he needs his first bathroom break.
16:27:59 <ynpvisitor2> Tara has to leave at 1400
16:28:28 <ynpvisitor111> 12 would work then?
16:28:41 <ynpvisitor2> No idea if it will take 30 minutes or 2 hours to get back
16:29:08 <Michael> Yeah. Sounds like that works for most everyone. Though I imagine the people there right now might have other ideas.
16:29:26 <ynpvisitor2> Not sure many are there now
16:34:39 <ynpvisitor25> heard the wind was brutal - sometimes with snow
