04:21:06 <ynpvisitor111> On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin, touched down in the lunar module Eagle on the Sea of Tranquillity.

04:30:39 <Betty> Grand
04:30:52 <Betty> the cloud was great
04:33:57 <ynpvisitor39> wow, a series of 4 or 5 Lions overnight
04:34:27 <ynpvisitor111> https://www.nasa.gov/62284main_onesmall2.wav
04:40:21 <ynpvisitor111> the basin elves may have caught this Grand
04:40:46 <Betty> I think they did
04:48:31 <ynpvisitor999®> The first heat wave of this year has been predicted to take shape in the next few weeks. Ugh... And it could be the longest recorded one too :(
04:48:57 <ynpvisitor999®> Anyway, good morning everyone and good afternoon Betty
04:49:21 <Betty> hi DG
04:49:56 <Betty> we have already 31°C here
04:50:09 <Betty> Dome ie
04:50:42 <ynpvisitor111> Hi DG, Betty and numbers, Has anyone seen Eric lately?
04:51:13 <ynpvisitor999®> I haven't
04:51:34 <Betty> I think he´s on holiday?
04:51:38 <Betty> hi 111
04:52:39 <ynpvisitor999®> By the way, there seems to have been some sort of activity at Lion @ 0129, though I can't tell if it was a long roar or a ~6s minor
04:53:36 <ynpvisitor111> watching the replay I cannot determine anything either.
04:55:38 <ynpvisitor999®> Though it seems there was a minor @ 0139 for ~26s
04:57:36 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Dave
04:58:00 <Betty> Morning Dave
05:03:15 <ynpvisitor111> I worked at Cape Canaveral 49 years ago, it seems we all held our breath from the launch on July 16th until the landing on July 20th :)
05:04:38 <Dave from B™> Morning everyone. Eric will be back next week
05:04:39 <ynpvisitor999®> must've been a big relief when they landed on the moon
05:07:32 <Dave from B™> I believe his daughter is college shopping but don't quote me on that
05:08:17 <Betty> nice OF
05:08:42 <Dave from B™> I'm a little concerned about SB North Vent
05:09:27 <ynpvisitor111> Ah, then like you it is time for Eric to get the big checkbook out. :)
05:10:08 <Dave from B™> Most of my work has been done already....college funds since birth really helps
05:10:27 <ynpvisitor111> although in your case three checkbooks :)
05:11:11 <Dave from B™> I learned my lesson after #1. Negotiated a lot harder for #2 and #3
05:13:48 <Betty> Dome ie
05:14:41 <ynpvisitor111> moring Graham
05:15:12 <Betty> :-)
05:15:33 <Dave from B™> You can't hide from us!:)
05:15:46 <Betty> he´s shy today
05:17:41 <Betty> morning Stephen
05:17:56 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Stephen
05:18:01 <Stephen G.> Morning Betty
05:26:37 <Dave from B™> Morning Jimbo
05:26:45 <ynpvisitor111> DG, do yoy go away for University, or is it local for you?
05:26:51 <SilverSurfer> Good morning Dave
05:27:39 <ynpvisitor999®> I stay at home and go by train, only two stations for me
05:28:23 <ynpvisitor111> nice
05:39:04 <Betty> Morning SilverSurfer
05:39:35 <SilverSurfer> Morning Betty
05:41:23 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Jimbo
05:43:07 <SilverSurfer> Thought about "Durango Kid" as a nickname, but that's a little more obscure
05:46:59 <Dave from B™> I'm a little surprised everyone is back at Norris today
05:53:32 <ynpvisitor37> if that's where they want to be, that's where they should be :)
05:55:41 <Dave from B™> 3 hot days in a row on the platform is as close to torture that gazing gets
05:57:23 <ynpvisitor111> end result = enjoyable, usually
05:57:42 <ynpvisitor999®> I wonder if SB got zapped again
05:57:46 <Betty> LC
05:59:56 <Dave from B™> Last interval North Vent was going like mad and we were waiting for South. This interval it is completely opposite
06:04:04 <Betty> there´s lots of steam in Plume area
06:04:28 <Betty> or is it from Plate?
06:04:38 <ynpvisitor999®> I think it's from Plate
06:05:13 <Dave from B™> Giantess boil?
06:05:36 <ynpvisitor999®> doesn't seem to originate from Aurum, so I'd say yes
06:05:39 <ynpvisitor999®> Daisy
06:05:59 <Betty> Giantess looks great
06:11:05 <Betty> VEC cam is stuck
06:12:54 <Betty> Plate ie
06:20:13 <Betty> Giantess is really interesting today
06:20:35 <Betty> it looks really hot
06:20:36 <ynpvisitor999®> SC
06:20:59 <Stephen G.> Yeah. Giantess looks like it's heated up
06:21:08 <ynpvisitor111> it may be big today!
06:21:08 <Dave from B™> I can't stop from staring at Giantess this morning for some reason
06:21:22 <Betty> me too Dave
06:21:50 <Dave from B™> It is only 45F this morning
06:22:14 <ynpvisitor999®> would be nice if we could have a zoom on Giantess (with OF to the left), as nothing seems about to go in the rest of the basin
06:22:21 <ynpvisitor999®> I'd take SC too, by the way :)
06:22:23 <Dave from B™> What a beautiful day for a Giantess eruption...Who would drive to Norris and tell everyone?
06:23:43 <Betty> you can do on your way to Giantess :-)
06:24:00 <Betty> take the chance
06:24:02 <Dave from B™> I would be tempted to go
06:24:33 <Betty> seems we have no camop this morning
06:26:10 <Betty> if there´s something happening there it can only be some small bursts
06:26:38 <ynpvisitor111> I think CC is there
06:27:01 <Betty> steam cloud would reach the top of the screen if it goes
06:27:14 <Betty> thx 111
06:28:00 <Betty> it would be a great year for Giantess to wake up
06:29:02 <ynpvisitor111> Dome ie
06:29:23 <Betty> yay
06:29:33 <Stephen G.> If Giantess woke up, it would be Giantess, Steamboat and Giant in the same year. Splendid might as well wake up too :)
06:29:59 <Betty> GO BIGGIES!
06:30:52 <Betty> even Dome looks big this morning :-)
06:31:21 <Betty> and there´s Solitary steam
06:38:53 <ynpvisitor84> I thought there were millions of people in the park in July. Where are they?
06:39:15 <Stephen G.> Still sleeping
06:42:10 <Dave from B™> Even West Entrance traffic is light
06:43:33 <ynpvisitor999®> there's still snow on Mount Washburn
06:44:06 <ynpvisitor84> Maybe they stopped giving travel visas?
06:45:17 <ynpvisitor84> Well enjoy Aurum, I see Kevin is missing.
06:45:20 <sparekitty> good morning!
06:46:39 <Dave from B™> Good morning sparekitty
06:46:51 <Betty> good morning, sparekitty
06:47:31 <Stephen G.> Morning sparekitty
06:48:48 <ynpvisitor999®> morning sparekitty
06:50:05 <Betty> I see Maureen is at Great Fountain
06:51:37 <Betty> LC ie
06:52:37 <Betty> she even had a Grizzly there
06:54:47 <Dave from B™> Maureen does NOT like grizzlies
06:55:05 <Betty> morning Kevin
06:55:24 <sparekitty> i'm headed to the park on the 28th. 3 nights at slough creek and then hoping for space at norris campground for a couple nights too. cannot wait.
06:55:26 <Kevin L™> Morning
06:55:38 <ynpvisitor35> Why doesn’t Maureen like grizzlies?
06:55:39 <Dave from B™> Sounds fun, sparekitty
06:56:04 <Kevin L™> I don't like grizzlies either. They have bad attitudes.
06:56:25 <sparekitty> i have always wanted to backpack camp in yellowstone...i've been there at least 100 times, never backpacking though.
06:57:11 <Dave from B™> 35, I thought I remember her not liking them...maybe just getting things confused with Kitt. I know Kitt's not a fan
06:57:52 <Kevin L™> I am not fond of things that would look at me as their dinner.
06:58:09 <ynpvisitor35> Yeah, that is Kitt. There has been a grizzly mom and cub on Fountain Flats past few days
06:58:10 <sparekitty> really, who IS a fan of grizzly bears? perhaps at a distance-through the moving car window
06:58:38 <Dave from B™> I love bears. Seeing the one across from Artemesia really makes me want to take a trip and stay at Roosevelt for a week
06:59:12 <ynpvisitor35> Grizzlies are great. The stupid tourists that get way too close, not so great.
06:59:12 <Dave from B™> Safety in numbers. A group of 4 or more has never been attacked in YNP
06:59:15 <Betty> I like them from a safe distance
07:00:04 <sparekitty> thanks for that tidbit, dave! there will be 4 of us in our group to slough. one in particular will be happy to hear we're unlikely to die!
07:00:10 <Kevin L™> Would you want to try for the first Dave?
07:00:47 <ynpvisitor35> I prefer them close from a car window. No binoculars needed yet safe in my vehicle.
07:01:36 <ynpvisitor35> Slough Creek is car camping, right?
07:02:27 <ynpvisitor35> You drive to the campsite?
07:02:29 <sparekitty> not where we are going, 35.
07:02:52 <Dave from B™> First meadow or second meadow?
07:03:21 <sparekitty> i think we're going to the 2nd meadow but is there a 3rd?
07:03:24 <ynpvisitor35> You are staying in a backcountry spot, the same one, for 4 nights?
07:03:40 <sparekitty> either way, i think it's 8 miles in. and we're staying for 3 nights in the same spot.
07:03:51 <ynpvisitor35> Why?
07:04:39 <Dave from B™> I think there is a third as well. Beautiful area
07:04:43 <ynpvisitor37> sparekitty, the skeeters will be spectacular!
07:05:11 <sparekitty> because it's great hiking and fishing. and i love backpack camping. typically quieter and fewer people. i find that if it takes real effort to get there, the people one encounters apprecicate the area more than those who can simply drive.
07:05:30 <sparekitty> and we're definitely planning for mosquitoes...hoping for no fire restrictions.
07:05:48 <Kevin L™> Bring an electric flyswatter.
07:06:13 <sparekitty> prob just long pants and sleeves, and head net.
07:06:48 <Dave from B™> sparekitty, backpacking is a lot of fun. So many places to go
07:07:17 <sparekitty> it's my thing. i do it a lot.
07:09:31 <Dave from B™> One of my favorite memories ever is 6 nights and 40 miles through the Bechler region of YNP
07:17:44 <ynpvisitor19> Static stuck on a great image. Fluffy's friend looks like a cute little bush.
07:30:00 <ynpvisitor62> Dave, the probable reason for Steamboat’s behavior is that we are well into the basin cycle. This has been the first cycle since the disturbance ended. I am hopeful for things to improve on the next cycle.
07:31:44 <Dave from B™> Thanks 62
07:32:22 <Dave from B™> How can I read up on the norris cycle? Any Sput or Transaction articles on it?
07:37:29 <Kevin L™> Going back to 111's audio of the moon landing, the seconds that they are counting down is the amount of fuel they have left. Neil was never supposed to fly the thing but the area that was picked had some big rocks. Neil took the controls and had less than 30 seconds of fuel left when he touched down. That is why all the ground crew were turning blue!
07:38:01 <ynpvisitor62> Dave, there are a couple of articles in the last 2 or 3 Sputs that tell a bit about it and also on GT - check Steamboat & Porkchop notes.
07:38:55 <ynpvisitor62> Right now the cycle is likely lasting 6 days
07:40:24 <Jake> and where is the cycle right now?
07:41:19 <ynpvisitor999®> No idea, as all YVO's loggers have stopped uploading data
07:41:45 <Dave from B™> So, this is a cycle of energy that changes in intensity or moves around the basin?
07:42:25 <Jake> I came up with a new prediction game idea: draw the data logger graph for the upcoming week. whoever is "closest", wins!
07:43:42 <ynpvisitor62> We should be nearing the end of this cycle.
07:44:22 <Jake> because it started on the 13th based on the Porkchop graph
07:44:29 <Kevin L™> A bit of news from Zion: https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/nation-and-world/flash-floods-rock-falls-close-trails-at-zion-national-park/
07:44:40 <ynpvisitor999®> if I solely have to base my idea of the Norris cycle on logger data and recent Porkchop notes, I'd say it has to do with the volume of water available
07:44:42 <Jake> OF
07:44:49 <Dave from B™> Also, In the special NatGeo article they said Norris thermal water comes out at Mammoth along a fault line. Any studies I can
07:45:16 <ynpvisitor111> the prize = satisfaction, but most of us will be singing "I can't get no satisfaction" :)
07:47:04 <Dave from B™> I guess I could finish my last thought. Any studies re the Norris Mammoth connection that I can read?
07:49:19 <Jake> https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C45&q=mammoth+norris+water+fault&btnG=
07:51:31 <Dave from B™> Thanks, Jake.
07:51:51 <Jake> some of those are available, others behind paywalls
07:52:17 <Jake> Google scholar is really great for searching for such things
07:54:07 <Dave from B™> I remember Duncan Foley talking about this many many years ago but I wanted to read up on it again
07:54:41 <Dave from B™> So, if more water is available to SB this year is it because less is "leaking" to Mammoth?
07:57:14 <ynpvisitor37> they call it the Norris-Mammoth corridor
08:02:19 <Emily> hi
08:02:28 <Dave from B™> Morning Emily
08:02:32 <Stephen G.> Hi Emily
08:02:41 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Emily
08:08:39 <ynpvisitor999®> Aurum
08:08:40 <ynpvisitor999®> .
08:08:41 <ynpvisitor999®> .
08:08:41 <ynpvisitor999®> .
08:09:53 <ynpvisitor999®> Castle ie
08:10:00 <ynpvisitor999®> ns, rather
08:10:33 <Kevin L™> I'll take an Aurum over a castle start.
08:11:04 <ynpvisitor111> yes
08:11:27 <Emily> 30s of bliss
08:11:27 <ynpvisitor111> nice urum catch
08:12:35 <ynpvisitor111> Aurum*
08:21:58 <ynpvisitor111> 12min still see water jets
08:22:14 <ynpvisitor118> good morning
08:22:26 <Emily> good morning 118
08:22:38 <ynpvisitor118> how's it going
08:22:43 <ynpvisitor118> hello from 'stone
08:22:51 <Stephen G.> Castle looking pretty good again today. Some tall jets
08:22:58 <ynpvisitor118> nice nice
08:23:09 <ynpvisitor118> skrrrrt
08:30:23 <ynpvisitor999®> time for SC
08:30:48 <ynpvisitor118> has anyone ever put soap into a geyser?
08:30:50 <ynpvisitor118> i am curious
08:31:12 <ynpvisitor999®> I haven't
08:31:33 <ynpvisitor118> well is there anyone whom has
08:31:47 <SilverSurfer> There's a video of someone soaping a New Zealand geyser
08:31:49 <ynpvisitor111> how much do you think it would take?
08:31:56 <Kevin L™> Even if I had I would not admit it here.
08:32:02 <SilverSurfer> They make it erupt for the tourists
08:32:07 <ynpvisitor118> please tell me
08:32:08 <ynpvisitor118> please
08:32:10 <ynpvisitor118> i must know
08:32:17 <Kevin L™> Check New Zealand geysers. They soap them.
08:32:23 <ynpvisitor999®> You mean Lady Knox Geyser, Jimbo?
08:32:29 <ynpvisitor118> i must know about yellowstone
08:32:29 <SilverSurfer> Not sure
08:32:34 <SilverSurfer> But I've seen the video
08:33:03 <ynpvisitor118> skrt
08:33:20 <Dave from B™> 118, that is not an appropriate question
08:33:33 <ynpvisitor999®> as far as I know LKG is the only geyser which is soaped on a daily basis - it's more or less the OF of New Zealand with all the benches around it
08:33:58 <SilverSurfer> Yup, looked up videos, it's Lady Knox
08:33:59 <Dave from B™> Soaping of geysers in US is illegal
08:34:41 <ynpvisitor999®> as for Yellowstone geysers, Splendid has been soaped frequently in the past
08:35:06 <Emily> Indeed it is. I wll say that I have not soaped geysers and will never do so. Though there are people who have in the gazer comunnity
08:35:55 <Kevin L™> I think most gazers have law enforcement on speed dial and will video and report such activity.
08:36:37 <Emily> I have dispatch as a contact in my phone and will call it quickly
08:36:39 <ynpvisitor118> why is it bad to do?
08:36:54 <Emily> Because it damages features and screws up natrual patterns
08:36:59 <ynpvisitor118> i am curious about the science
08:37:00 <SilverSurfer> It interferes with the natural process
08:37:13 <ynpvisitor999®> it can (most likely will) damage the geyser/spring's inner plumbing system
08:37:18 <ynpvisitor118> how does it damage them?
08:37:47 <Emily> Messing up natural patterns
08:38:13 <ynpvisitor87> 118, why don't you ask in the VC?
08:38:25 <ynpvisitor87> I'm sure they will tell you.
08:38:40 <SilverSurfer> Plus, it's low-level pollution
08:38:45 <ynpvisitor999®> isn't there a spring in the CGG which has been soaped and then never recovered fully from it
08:38:47 <ynpvisitor999®> Daisy
08:39:02 <Emily> CGG? Cascade group?
08:39:25 <ynpvisitor999®> Castle-Grand Group
08:39:33 <Emily> oh
08:39:40 <Emily> That would be scalloped
08:39:40 <Kevin L™> If you want to see what soaping does, make a geyser model. Run it with and without soap.
08:39:52 <ynpvisitor999®> That was it, thanks Emily
08:41:19 <Jake> 118, where did you hear/read about soap?
08:44:11 <ynpvisitor118> i am a geyser model
08:44:39 <ynpvisitor118> i heard about it at yellowstone
08:45:16 <Jake> neat
08:47:36 <Dave from B™> Jake, when do you leave for Wonderland?
08:47:58 <Jake> this afternoon
08:48:19 <Dave from B™> I hope F&M waits for oyu
08:49:20 <ynpvisitor999®> maybe SB is waiting for you, Jake
08:49:45 <Emily> come on NV
08:49:50 <Jake> tomorrow would be nice for F&M
08:50:03 <Emily> Wonder whats going on downbasin at fan and mortar
08:54:41 <Jake> it's always tricky deciding where to spend time, I'm assuming Giant is out
08:55:08 <Jake> if someone wants to sit at F&M and call out on the radio when something happens, I'll let them and go sit at something else ;)
08:55:12 <Dave from B™> Maybe Giant at the very end of your trip
08:55:31 <Emily> Id love to be there rn
08:55:43 <Emily> favorite place on earth to watch stuff go by
09:00:25 <Jake> if Steamboat does go while we're there, we'll have to be lucky to see it unless lots of credible observations come in about building activity. I would like to see a Whirligig and some Vixen
09:01:01 <Dave from B™> Jake, Norris is so isolated communication wise...good luck
09:01:24 <Dave from B™> I hope with Washburn upgrade that Norris communication can improve even a little
09:01:47 <Jake> and we'll have a baby so that makes longer waits uncomfortable with no cabin to go back to
09:03:28 <Kevin L™> That can complicate things Jake.
09:15:17 <Emily> Micah is at Fan and Mortar
09:15:36 <Dave from B™> What...no animal sightings today?
09:15:41 <Betty> How long will you stay, Jake?
09:23:25 <Jake> until Tuesday
09:23:55 <Dave from B™> Uggh...that would be a fast turnaround for Giant
09:24:10 <Jake> yes
09:24:44 <Betty> Hope you get F&M then.
09:25:23 <Dave from B™> Jake, F&M does like to erupt once you get in your car headed this way
09:25:38 <Betty> Fast but not impossible. It’s a geyser:-)
09:26:18 <Betty> That only works with your car Dave
09:27:02 <Dave from B™> I tried to remove that option when I bought my car but I couldn't
09:27:22 <Betty> :-D
09:28:02 <Betty> Time to head to the festival. bbl
09:28:15 <ynpvisitor999®> have fun
09:28:24 <Betty> Thx
09:28:27 <Dave from B™> Is this Day 3?
09:29:26 <ynpvisitor999®> hi Kevin
09:29:50 <Kevin L™> hi
09:30:32 <ynpvisitor111> What is being celebrated?
09:31:06 <ynpvisitor118> soap day
09:31:11 <Kevin L™> Betty is in Germany. They just celebrate to celebrate.
09:31:29 <ynpvisitor111> :)
09:31:46 <Dave from B™> 118, that's enough
09:31:48 <Emily> Betty are you getting to the park?
09:32:10 <ynpvisitor118> :(
09:34:37 <Kevin L™> I think Betty is coming in the Fall Emily.
09:35:40 <ynpvisitor999®> late September if I recall correctly
10:06:28 <ynpvisitor999®> Bulger's Hole is still active :)
10:17:58 <lc> afternoon all
10:18:13 <Stephen G.> Afternoon lc
10:18:18 <ynpvisitor999®> afternoon lc
10:18:24 <Dave from B™> Hi, lc
10:20:02 <lc> just got a text from Kitt, she would really like to get bhi or bh text at night/
10:20:54 <lc> said she has missed many because no one is out at night to call
10:21:28 <Dave from B™> Yep...no one wants to stay out at night any more
10:21:42 <Dave from B™> I don't blame people for wanting to get some sleep
10:21:59 <Dave from B™> But, that is a change since the night owl sputs are gone
10:22:43 <lc> not sure who would be watching here that could send a text, maybe Betty.
10:23:01 <Dave from B™> Joe would be able to help possibility
10:23:05 <Kevin L™> I can do that if I see one. Hopefully she can tell the people out there not to point their lights in the direction of the cam because if they do we can't see Indy.
10:23:23 <ynpvisitor111> I can text on the ones I see at night, but i thought rainedout at night was frowned upon
10:23:53 <Kevin L™> If it is too late I just send her a personal text.
10:24:13 <Dave from B™> 111, that has been a sticky issue for some...personal text sounds like a good compromise
10:24:44 <ynpvisitor999®> I don't think anyone would be bothered if a nighttime text said that Giantess has started an eruption
10:24:50 <ynpvisitor111> I donot have her text #
10:24:59 <lc> not sure 111, just passing her msg on.
10:25:10 <ynpvisitor111> ok tks
10:25:30 <Kevin L™> Is that you Joe?
10:25:36 <ynpvisitor111> yes
10:25:46 <lc> I can give it to you
10:26:54 <Kevin L™> Check your email
10:27:06 <Joe´> tks kevin
10:28:17 <Kevin L™> Has anyone else had problems with streaming locking up on this page? I have had it lock up on me for the past few days. Seems to run fine on the NPS site though.
10:29:02 <ynpvisitor999®> it does that every so often for me, though it usually fixes itself or after I reload the stream
10:29:59 <Kevin L™> Mine has been lagging and then locking up. Since it works on NPS it probably isn't Chrome.
10:30:04 <Joe´> not locking up here
10:30:17 <Stephen G.> It usually will lock up for a few seconds at a time occasionally for me.
10:30:59 <lc> Joe, I made a typo on that number check your pm.
10:34:01 <Joe´> got it lc

10:34:49 <lc> sorry about the typo, got that from Dave. :-/
10:35:45 <SilverSurfer> I've had that happen too, Kevin L.
10:36:14 <Joe´> we all know how Dave is, lc
10:36:22 <Joe´> :)
10:43:41 <Kevin L½™> I tossed the cookie and the stream started again.
10:44:00 <Kevin L½™> It thinks I am here twice though.
10:46:04 <Joe´> I only see 1/2 of you
10:51:26 <Joe´> I don't think we will see Riverside today, musn't be any basin elves back there
10:52:18 <Kevin L™> Yea. Now I am back to normal
10:52:31 <ynpvisitor> Time for Grand, it worked yesterday.
10:52:39 <ynpvisitor35> Too bad Jake will miss the big ones, maybe F&M will wait for him
10:53:02 <Joe´> mustn't**
10:54:09 <lc> bbl
10:57:55 <Dave from B™> bye, lc....just back from lunch
10:58:04 <Dave from B™> I saw you sneak in that jab:)
10:59:16 <Kevin L™> So what do you serve at a company lunch Dave?
11:00:43 <Dave from B™> Not fish since we have partners in the building who don't like fish smell plus there are 2 or 3 of us who wouldn't eat fish
11:00:50 <Dave from B™> We had brats on pretzel buns
11:01:07 <Dave from B™> Parker manned the bbq
11:02:18 <Joe´> lion is ready
11:02:22 <Kevin L™> The page wanted my cookie
11:03:11 <Kevin L™> Hope you had horseradish mustard for those. (That is a law in Germany.)

11:09:33 <ynpvisitor> A fish store that does not serve fish at a company party, reminds me of asking what was good at a restaurant and being told "I don't know, they will not let us eat here".
11:10:29 <Dave from B™> We're only cooking 1 thing and we don't want to offer something not everyone will eat
11:10:46 <Dave from B™> Anyone read HK's recent post?
11:11:24 <Joe´> in geyser notes? yes
11:12:16 <Joe´> ruined a phone
11:12:39 <Dave from B™> So, does than mean HK doesn't approve of gazers talking tourists into going to BH or Grand or that he doesn't like gazers complaining about it or both?
11:12:54 <Dave from B™> Joe, that was yesterdays post you are talking about
11:13:06 <ynpvisitor999®> Giant apparantly didn't like its own sign and got rid of it using its runoff channel
11:13:17 <Joe´> ok missed latest then
11:16:51 <ynpvisitor114> there was an et al at Artemisia!
11:16:56 <ynpvisitor114> not usually a crowd there
11:17:14 <Dave from B™> Nice to see Scott back
11:17:57 <ynpvisitor114> no Turban posts?
11:18:50 <Dave from B™> HK enters his Turban when Grand goes
11:19:18 <ynpvisitor114> all of them leading up to it?
11:19:19 <Joe´> sounds to me like he as just commenting about gazers being the the larger number of people at those sites, watching the cam most tourists avoid walking the outer boardwalks
11:20:06 <Dave from B™> I would like to get to know hk better. Kevin, you've known him for a long time haven't you?
11:20:11 <Joe´> except the groups following their leader with a flag
11:21:35 <ynpvisitor114> hey, can someone tell me what New Crater is at Steamboat?
11:21:40 <ynpvisitor114> HK keeps mentioning it
11:21:50 <Stephen G.> New Crater is another official name for Steamboat.
11:21:58 <ynpvisitor114> why?
11:23:03 <Stephen G.> I believe it was used in the early days of the park. I believe Steamboat as we know it now was a new feature in the early days of the Park, hence "New" Crater Geyser.
11:23:26 <Dave from B™> New Crater was the original name
11:23:49 <Stephen G.> Steamboat's first big eruptions were seen in the 1870s.
11:24:17 <Dave from B™> I believe it was the 1880's
11:24:28 <Dave from B™> Let me do some digging
11:24:59 <Joe´> while sitting at Castle I see about 90% of the crowds take the pavement to MGP rather than to Castle, Giant and further on
11:25:55 <ynpvisitor114> thanks, I wonder how much more time gazers will put to it
11:25:59 <Stephen G.> It looks like the first recorded eruptions were in 1878. http://npshistory.com/brochures/yell/steamboat-geyser-2005.pdf
11:27:28 <ynpvisitor114> some have spent the whole week there
11:27:43 <Dave from B™> Thanks, Stephen. I knew it wasn't active for the 3 expeditions in 1869-1871. Thought it started during Supt Norris years
11:28:04 <ynpvisitor999®> LC
11:29:01 <Stephen G.> No problem Dave. :)
11:29:45 <Stephen G.> I may be wrong, but I seem to recall a reading (I think Janet's post from a couple of months ago) Steamboat may not have existed before the 1870's. Either that, or it wasn't important enough to note.
11:30:13 <ynpvisitor114> well it is not a new crater now
11:30:48 <Joe´> 81° not much steam visible
11:31:16 <ynpvisitor114> maybe it will be a 7 hour Grand
11:31:57 <ynpvisitor999®> Wasn't SB a fumarole before it began erupting?
11:32:50 <Dave from B™> I know in my 1904 Hague Atlas it is on the map as New Crater Geyser
11:33:30 <Kevin L™> :P Stream locked up again.
11:33:33 <ynpvisitor114> Mugwump note is not good
11:33:40 <ynpvisitor114> mine is Ok here Kevin
11:34:27 <Kevin L™> I did see Mugwump a few times but from a distance.
11:35:00 <Dave from B™> According to my cam, everyone has a hitch in their giddyup:)
11:36:10 <ynpvisitor23> grand
11:41:39 <ynpvisitor114> maybe too close?
11:41:47 <ynpvisitor114> quite the sway that close
11:42:31 <ynpvisitor114> good to know the gazers have a breeze
11:43:30 <Dave from B™> I bet the winds not blowing on the SB platform
11:43:46 <ynpvisitor114> their choice
11:44:10 <ynpvisitor114> I think what hk wrote about BH and Grand being less crowded without gazers was interesting
11:44:37 <ynpvisitor114> it is some of the same people that say STAY that later complain about overcrowding
11:45:46 <Joe´> If you want crowds tell them there is nothing to see here :)
11:46:17 <Joe´> 11min
11:46:28 <ynpvisitor114> looks like another 1b
11:46:44 <Dave from B™> I like corraling tourists to watch the biggies. It never hurts to have more FROGS
11:47:40 <Stephen G.> FROGS?
11:47:58 <Kevin L™> If there is a large crowd then people who were just going to pass by will sometimes stay to see what is going on. About 30 years ago we tried and experiment. We stopped by the side of the road in a pullout and set up a camera on a tripod looking into the woods. We ended up with over 100 cars stopping and most didn't ask what we were looking at.
11:48:19 <Dave from B™> :D
11:49:02 <ynpvisitor114> I have done that Kevin, only with binoculars. I left after about 30 cars were there
11:49:07 <Kevin L™> Friend Of the Geysers. (Or an old person like me who is ready to croak.)
11:49:18 <Stephen G.> Pardon my question, but does that stand for something Dave?
11:49:49 <Joe´> there is never any cars at mugwump, but when i stop there the pullout will fill
11:50:01 <Jake> People Interested in Geysers PIGs
11:50:26 <ynpvisitor114> you PIG Jake
11:50:38 <ynpvisitor114> Stephen, you must not subscribe to the SPUT
11:50:44 <Joe´> I'm a pig
11:51:24 <Stephen G.> I do not, unfortunately.
11:51:40 <Dave from B™> See Kvin's post...he's got the FROG definition
11:52:03 <Stephen G.> Ah. Thanks Kevin :)
11:52:22 <Dave from B™> Let's talk about the Sput. I feel Pat has done a great job with the Sput.
11:52:30 <ynpvisitor114> well why not? You can get it electronically for the cost of a few coffees
11:52:35 <Joe´> Kevin, you are still young
11:52:49 <Dave from B™> Everyone should subscribe. She is working REALLY hard to make it a super super publication
11:53:00 <Kevin L™> Well the Dr that delivered me died this week.
11:53:21 <Dave from B™> That gives you at least another 25 years Kevin!:)
11:53:23 <ynpvisitor114> anyone who says they are GOSA and does not subscribe, should stop saying that.
11:53:35 <ynpvisitor114> They are not GOSA anyway, yet at least they would be a subscriber
11:54:57 <Stephen G.> Very true. I'll look into subscribing when I've got the chance this weekend
11:55:37 <ynpvisitor42> The Sput is great. It's been a fine record of the geyser world for three decades now.
11:55:39 <Dave from B™> Pat has been adding new features every few months.
11:55:48 <Dave from B™> They highlight a gazer every issue
11:56:08 <Dave from B™> She is adding a "Ask a gazer" article for the next issue
12:19:15 <Emily> Dear Geyser Gazer. I want to watch Aurum but I know its very hard to catch these days. Am I wasting my time?
12:19:24 <ynpvisitor999®> Lion ini
12:19:38 <Emily> Answer, no you're not.
12:20:38 <Kevin L™> I have waited a long time for some Aurum eruptions and have waited and not seen it. Never regretted the time.
12:21:15 <Emily> Fan and Mortar is my Aurum these days. I understand the feeling
12:21:41 <Kevin L™> I can relate. Spent 40 hours waiting on my first F&M.
12:21:52 <Kevin L™> Just make sure Dave isn't there.
12:22:10 <Emily> I watched a lot of stuff over July 4th weekend and I missed overnight and I dont minf
12:25:11 <Emily> I know dave has had bad luck with it. I hope to see an eruption with him in august or september
12:25:57 <Emily> I'll be down there a lot I think. I like that I can call people down there for something I understand reasonably well but also am close to Giant in case it does something

12:44:53 <Joe´> Lion was ini
12:45:34 <ynpvisitor999®> I left a comment on that entry saying that it was the initial
12:55:11 <ynpvisitor999®> webcam is tired again?
12:55:41 <Joe´> yep
12:59:32 <Stephen G.> I see Udo already left Steamboat. Sounds like it's pretty hot at Norris. Didn't give much of an update on what he's seeing, although he mentioned the gravel pit has been dredged deeper.
13:04:02 <Dave from B™> Left side of runoff wet and dredge is all good but I wonder if that is all from SV.
13:04:31 <Dave from B™> Kitt is backat UGB as well
13:29:29 <ynpvisitor67> Time for Lion #2?
