04:56:24 <ynpvisitor999®> nice sunrise Bee
04:56:26 <ynpvisitor69> the hill on this side of the river blocks your view of where the water runs down
05:01:42 <ynpvisitor999®> an eruption column of Giant would make this view complete

06:48:10 <ynpvisitor47> large eruption this time at Old Faithful
06:48:30 <ynpvisitor999®> it does that after a short eruption
06:48:45 <ynpvisitor47> Good to know. Thanks.
06:48:58 <ynpvisitor999®> generally the eruption following a short is in the order of 4½ - 5m
06:49:19 <ynpvisitor47> That would be a long one then too.

07:03:10 <Kevin L™> Hi
07:08:42 <Kevin L™> HK has an interesting comment about yesterday's conewalker in his notes.
07:11:50 <ynpvisitor999®> which cone and at what time was that?
07:13:28 <Kevin L™> Right on top of OF. Cam is on preset wide but you can see him right around 1710. HK got a closeup on the guy. I guess he ended up in jail at Mammoth.
07:13:50 <ynpvisitor999®> thanks
07:16:55 <ynpvisitor999®> Daytime ×4 timestamp:

07:20:19 <ynpvisitor999®> unfortunately OF didn't do some strong preplay jetting while he was looking into the vent
07:21:25 <Kevin L™> From the HK story it sounded like he was trying to get into the vent.
07:22:02 <ynpvisitor999®> wut...
07:22:47 <ynpvisitor999®> that's another way to conduct 'scientific research'
07:24:22 <Kevin L™> It sounds as if this dude left his brain at the campsite if he even brought it to the park with him at all.
07:46:21 <Betty> morning all
07:46:35 <ynpvisitor999®> afternoon Betty
07:46:40 <Kevin L™> Hello
07:46:43 <Betty> hi DG
07:46:48 <Betty> hi Kevin
07:47:30 <Kevin L™> Heat isn't too bad Betty. We were out at about 3 and it was a bit toasty but cooled off once the sun went down.
07:47:54 <Betty> :-)
07:49:30 <Kevin L™> We are headed back out there in about 45m. May be a bit hooter for this race. They don't let you run AC in the parade trucks since the condensate may get the track wet.
07:49:40 <Kevin L™> That got a bit warm.
07:50:12 <Betty> I bet
07:50:54 <Kevin L™> Supped to be about 105° today but drop to the mid 90s by Monday.
07:51:05 <Betty> sounds good
07:51:17 <Kevin L™> That is a real Davespeak. Supposed
08:19:52 <Kevin L™> I am off to the races. BTW they will be running the main race as your plane gets into town tomorrow Betty. It would be on the right side of the plane.
08:20:12 <ynpvisitor999®> bye Kevin. Have fun
08:21:31 <Kevin L™> TY it is fun. Once we parade the drivers we can watch the race from about 30 feet behind the pit wall!
08:22:01 <Betty> good luck
08:22:41 <ynpvisitor999®> Bijou pause
08:22:55 <Betty> we sit on the right side :-)

10:31:05 <Michael> I'd be surprised if Giant doesn't make a serious attempt at erupting before dark.
10:32:19 <ynpvisitor17> Graham is on the ground in Bozeman...will it wait for him?
10:33:09 <ynpvisitor17> 73, can that be real?
10:33:13 <ynpvisitor17> nice day
10:35:54 <ynpvisitor17> is Kent still here? He posted an in basin time.
10:38:49 <Kent> I am here but only when near the Snow Lodge. My phone, Google Project Fi, hates the OF tower. I am off to the LGB after I finish my lunch.

14:52:29 <ynpvisitor999®> rather muddy, too
14:52:53 <ynpvisitor999®> at least it has all the attention now :)
14:53:33 <ynpvisitor1> Reported to 20 feet on frs
14:54:13 <ynpvisitor75> I jsut called it in to the OFVEC
14:55:00 <ynpvisitor1> Thanks. They asked about what it was over the radio

14:55:53 <ynpvisitor73> Hi Dave
14:57:04 <ynpvisitor73> Go NG
14:57:19 <ynpvisitor1> Hi 73. I caught the afternoon GHP and Grand. We went to the new GPS overlook as well
14:58:15 <ynpvisitor73> I‘m there in 4 days. Flight is tomorrow
14:58:34 <ynpvisitor73> how is hiking?
14:58:42 <ynpvisitor1> The day started watching a grizzly bear thorofare trailhead for 90 minutes
14:58:55 <ynpvisitor73> cool
14:59:23 <ynpvisitor1> Did 11.5 miles yesterday. Have a cold as well
14:59:35 <ynpvisitor73> Bah
14:59:43 <ynpvisitor75> Here is the capture --
14:59:58 <ynpvisitor43> capture of ES
15:02:12 <ynpvisitor73> Wow, great camwork. You caught most of it
15:02:21 <ynpvisitor999®> TGoY 4th edition lists one ES to 15 feet in 1957, with additional eruptions to 2 feet after the 1959 quake. Additional action in 1986, 1992 and 2004
15:02:40 <ynpvisitor75> That was exciting.
15:03:08 <ynpvisitor12> very cool
15:03:10 <ynpvisitor75> A new geyser for me
15:03:10 <ynpvisitor999®> also, "true eruptions are extremely rare", so this was probably a 'one of a kind'
15:03:28 <ynpvisitor999®> for at least a while
15:04:48 <ynpvisitor73> Never too late for new geysers, 75 :-) we can call it Ear Geyser now
15:08:10 <ynpvisitor75> Here I thought my camop shift this evening was going to be slow. How litle did I know.

15:11:00 <ynpvisitor999®> and I thought it would be a not-so-special evening/night for me. Boy was I wrong
15:11:34 <ynpvisitor73> Watch for Improbable major.
15:11:42 <ynpvisitor999®> Graham's in the basin
15:12:21 <ynpvisitor75> I should thank him. I'm covering his shift.
15:14:06 <ynpvisitor73> We should thank YOU then :-)
15:17:42 <ynpvisitor999®> OT 1716 ie
15:17:59 <ynpvisitor999®> LC
15:27:33 <ynpvisitor999®> start of ES seems to be 1649:00/01, when what seemed to be low boiling/jetting started
15:29:08 <ynpvisitor999®> began to grow at :07/:08, with a nice, tall jet @ :10, at which point the water began turning dirty
15:31:13 <ynpvisitor999®> no visible water by :35 (or it was covered in steam). Yields a duration of ~34/35s
15:39:55 <ynpvisitor999®> it amuses me a video about the organ of Curti is listed in the suggested videos list of the ES eruption
15:47:30 <JSJ> All I can say about that Ear Spring eruption is "Wow".
15:48:45 <ynpvisitor999®> got me shaking a bit, though nowhere near as much when I first saw Steamboat trace on YNM for the first few times
15:54:34 <JSJ> Been a great year for rare geysers, large and small.
15:54:52 <ynpvisitor999®> indeed
15:57:22 <ynpvisitor77> Ear spring. Unbelievable and great job Dave with cam
16:01:13 <ynpvisitor999®> Pendant 1755 ie
16:02:59 <ynpvisitor999®> I wonder if Pendant's eruption is a response to Ear's
16:03:13 <ynpvisitor999®> or just by accident
16:03:54 <JSJ> No indication yet of its size or duration?
16:04:22 <ynpvisitor999®> Ear Spring at least 20 feet, ~35s
16:04:29 <JSJ> I meant Pendant.
16:04:53 <ynpvisitor999®> oh, in that case it would surprise me if it were to be any higher than 2 feet
16:05:13 <JSJ> Did it show up here on the web camera?
16:05:53 <JSJ> Pot o' Gold "erupted" a year or two ago - a pretty dinky event, apparently. But still cool.
16:06:29 <ynpvisitor999®> theoretically Pendant would be visible from the cam, but I think OF's steam and the boardwalk are hiding it
16:07:04 <JSJ> The geyser behind Pendant also went a few minutes ago.
16:07:13 <JSJ> Wowsers.
16:07:23 <ynpvisitor999®> maybe Pendant is the small plume just behind Plate's steam
16:07:42 <ynpvisitor75> I've seen old pictures of Pendant (in a friends family photo album from the early 1950's) it reached about 2 feet at that time.
16:08:35 <JSJ> Just noticed that Old Tardy was seen having a major eruption several hours ago. Tossed rocks.
16:10:09 <ynpvisitor999®> wouldn't surprise if some of the conspiracy theoridiots start blasting out the news Yellowstone will be any second now that a rare geyser has erupted
16:12:18 <ynpvisitor999®> NG boiled on rising, per 1808
16:12:19 <ynpvisitor999®> note
16:12:55 <JSJ> Conspiracy idiots have already been running riot over Steamboat this season.
16:13:07 <JSJ> Amusing & frustrating at the same time.
16:13:22 <JSJ> They're kinda like flat earthers - I kinda suspect that most of them are
16:13:29 <JSJ> lying - they don't really believe what they say.
16:13:41 <JSJ> They just need a real hobby, instead of pretending to be something they're not.
16:14:12 <JSJ> The internet brings that out in a fair number of people - I know of one or two of such folks in real life.
16:14:34 <ynpvisitor999®> with it being the golden days of gazing now, I bet theoridiots have their best days on record
16:14:45 <JSJ> Well, let's root for Giantess and Link.
16:15:00 <ynpvisitor999®> great plan
16:21:37 <ynpvisitor999®> NG 1819
16:22:18 <ynpvisitor999®> Anyway, I'm off for today. Enjoy the rare geysers!
16:25:11 <JSJ> Yay - North Goggles again!
16:25:19 <JSJ> Saw one minor eruption in person back in August.
16:25:23 <JSJ> Woo hoo.

16:35:45 <ynpvisitor10> EAR SPRING REFILLED AND. OILING GREY
16:36:22 <ynpvisitor10> overflowing vigorous boik
17:17:06 <lc> Ear Springs, amazing catch by the cam opr.
17:17:30 <lc> I didn't even know it erupts.
17:17:47 <Kevin L™> I don't think it did. Deos now!
17:17:51 <ynpvisitor75> neither did I
17:17:54 <Kevin L™> Does
17:18:21 <ynpvisitor73> Ha, NG
17:18:24 <lc> I did notice last week it was boiling more than I had ever seen it.
17:18:59 <999 on phone> I couldn't resist
17:19:11 <ynpvisitor73> It knows Graham is back
17:19:49 <lc> don't know that was any indication of an eruption.
17:19:58 <Betty iPhone> Either I couldnt resist
17:20:11 <999 on phone> Hi Betty
17:20:15 <lc> too bad nobody on the boardwalk to see it.
17:20:25 <Betty iPhone> Hi DG
17:20:32 <Kevin L™> According to TSB it did erupt to 15 feet in 1957. Also had a few smaller (2 foot) eruptions since
17:20:44 <lc> looked better than Aurum to me.
17:20:58 <Betty iPhone> hi Kevin and lc
17:21:03 <Kevin L™> It was nice. Great that we had the cam to capture it!
17:21:24 <lc> would be amazing to be so close to it.
17:21:35 <lc> hi Betty
17:21:41 <999 on phone> Just saw NG's 1915 minor on GT's integrated webcam view. Looked promising for a major. Hopefully Lion doesn't throw a wrench in it
17:21:44 <Kevin L™> One of our drivers blew up on lap 2 and finished last Betty.
17:22:16 <lc> and NG goes as soon as Graham gets in the area.:p
17:22:19 <Betty iPhone> sounds you had fun
17:22:26 <999 on phone> It knows...
17:22:48 <ynpvisitor11> GHP in progress....
17:22:54 <Kevin L™> It was toasty but fun. Temps are supposed to drop to the mid 90s now.
17:23:17 <Betty iPhone> Go Giant
17:23:28 <Kevin L™> I will send you pics when I get them transferred to the computer.
17:23:37 <999 on phone> That there's still water in the basin :)
17:24:29 <999 on phone> most recent SB note has NV to 20+ feet and SV 10 feet
17:24:55 <Betty iPhone> Go SB
17:25:03 <lc> don't need a long Lion series to get NG.
17:25:50 <Betty iPhone> SC?
17:25:58 <999 on phone> I did see some Lion splashes earlier which looked like the beginning of an initial. Guess it just delayed itself by that.
17:26:13 <999 on phone> I think so on SC
17:27:16 <lc> NG
17:28:02 <999 on phone> how's the GHP looking?
17:28:17 <Betty iPhone> Back to sleep
17:28:26 <999 on phone> night Betty
17:28:30 <Kevin L™> Grand
17:29:02 <ynpvisitor11> No Giant. GHP done.
17:29:13 <Kevin L™>
17:29:46 <999 on phone> unfortunate. Time for Grand and NG then :) At least something special today
17:30:49 <Kevin L™> 2 Aurums today.
17:31:16 <ynpvisitor12> Fluffy is early
17:32:14 <999 on phone> an E time for SC. Didn't know it had a live logger :P
17:33:35 <lc> I don't see E time for SC
17:33:55 <999 on phone> edited to ie now
17:34:04 <999 on phone> earlier it was E
17:34:49 <lc> easy to do on phone.:p
17:35:43 <999 on phone> it looks like UNNG-GHG-15 has emerged per 1820 Other Geyser report
17:35:58 <ynpvisitor71> Another NG minor
17:36:01 <Kevin L™> :)
17:37:33 <999 on phone> I wonder if today is one of those 'strange days' as TSB describes odd events on Geyser Hill
17:37:46 <Michael> Wow! I missed a lot!
17:38:00 <lc> hey Michael
17:38:25 <lc> check out the Ear Spring capture.
17:38:41 <ynpvisitor71> 2nd
17:38:47 <Kevin L™> Nice 2nd
17:39:21 <lc>
17:39:22 <Michael> Could someone please tell me what the heck is going on on Geyser Hill?!
17:39:48 <lc> I have no idea.
17:40:24 <999 on phone> it's a day of strange events, most likely. They have occurred earlier according to The Geysers of Yellowstone
17:40:36 <lc> I just came in to turn the computer off.
17:41:15 <ynpvisitor11> Is this what they call a “geyser hill wave”?
17:41:25 <999 on phone> Nope
17:42:03 <Michael> Weird things have defintely happened on Geyser Hill before. "Improbable" geyser comes to mind, as does Butterfly Spring.
17:42:57 <lc> the BIG change in Lion and Depression a few years ago.
17:45:24 <ynpvisitor71> NG
17:46:37 <ynpvisitor75> Kevin can you take the camera
17:47:09 <Kevin L™> Give me a few minutes.
17:47:35 <ynpvisitor75> ok
17:48:08 <999 on phone> I wonder if there have been NG series before a Lion series
17:48:36 <999 on phone> LC
17:50:07 <Kevin L™> OK 75, I have it.
17:50:27 <Michael (???)> In the 1990s most North Goggle series happened as Lion was recovering. A long series could go almost until the next Lion initial.
17:51:03 <Michael (???)> But I've never seen 10-minute intervals before, so there's not much precedent to go on today.
17:52:56 <ynpvisitor34> Is there some sort of energy surge currently going on in the back part of Geyser Hill?
17:53:24 <lc> series a few weeks ago the intervals were 15 to 18 minutes.
17:53:45 <999 on phone> Maybe this series is a result of Lion having all thing needed to go, but somehow it doesn't manage to actually erupt
17:54:29 <JSJ> Whatever this is, it's remarkable.
17:54:39 <Michael (???)> Thanks lc. I must have missed that series.
17:55:06 <ynpvisitor71> There it is
17:55:10 <ynpvisitor71> Like clockwork
17:55:18 <ynpvisitor34> Extremely remarkable time to be in the park
17:56:12 <ynpvisitor34> Wonder what effect this would have on BH intervals if any
17:56:17 <Kevin L™> That was a good one
17:56:56 <ynpvisitor17> Doublet pool erupting, I wonder what that looks like
17:56:56 <999 on phone> I'm going to watch from tje GT app. Much more reliable than this stream
17:57:51 <ynpvisitor71> I don't know why I've never thought of this before; is there a Goggle Geyser? South Goggle?
17:58:14 <ynpvisitor17> I think it is just Goggle
17:58:28 <JSJ> Next to it is Goggles Spring.
17:58:29 <lc> I stand corrected, that was back in May, the last series in Aug the intervals 30 to 65 minutes.
17:58:44 <JSJ> Some people say "North Goggles Geyser". Others say "North Goggle Geyser".
17:58:50 <ynpvisitor71> Thanks JS
17:58:58 <ynpvisitor34> Google it (sorry I couldn’t resist)
17:59:04 <ynpvisitor17> Steve E has photos of Doublet erupting
17:59:15 <ynpvisitor17> too bad it has to get dark
17:59:21 <ynpvisitor71> Yeah. i just looked it up in Scott's book and it has Goggles plural.
17:59:33 <JSJ> GT has "Goggle".
17:59:42 <JSJ> An old GOSA Transactions article has "Goggle".
18:00:06 <JSJ> I like "Goggles", but it's a preference thing, regardless of whatever is "official".
18:00:20 <Michael (???)> My guess would be that "North Goggles" is the official name (i.e. North of Goggles Spring).
18:00:49 <Michael (???)> But for a long time the trail sign said "North Goggle Geyser" so that's what many gazers learned first.
18:01:13 <JSJ> No such thing as "official" anything. Just some hominids asserting things to other hominids.
18:01:32 <JSJ> Did Steve E. get Doublet erupting or a feature near it?
18:01:45 <ynpvisitor17> he said Doublet
18:01:46 <ynpvisitor71> Reminds me of all the early documents about "The Grand
18:01:52 <JSJ> Cool.
18:01:56 <ynpvisitor71> "The Grand"
18:01:56 <ynpvisitor17> fun day up there
18:02:03 <JSJ> I've never hung around Doublet to even experience thumps.
18:02:14 <ynpvisitor17> that amazes me
18:02:22 <ynpvisitor17> I thought you have hung out everywhere
18:02:34 <JSJ> I wish.
18:02:43 <JSJ> If I could stay all summer, I'd get around to everything!
18:02:53 <ynpvisitor17> someday maybe
18:03:01 <JSJ> Nothing personal to the geysers, but there are a couple that haven't gripped me yet.
18:03:02 <lc> the old sign was "North Goggles Geyser"
18:03:02 <ynpvisitor34> Imagine if Giantess activated...we seem to be on a roll anyway with SB, Giant, & Morning
18:03:07 <ynpvisitor17> still no Giant
18:03:32 <JSJ> Actually, 2018 could still use a new geyser to appear, like Sidekick near Clepsydra last year.
18:03:35 <ynpvisitor17> I met someone today who saw Giant and Giantess erupt within 24 hours of each other
18:04:00 <Michael (???)> I would be a very happy person if Giantess erupted! It's been much too long...
18:04:07 <ynpvisitor17> that would be a good 24 hours
18:04:18 <ynpvisitor71> Time to put on your Goggles?
18:04:19 <Kevin L™> Almost too dark for zoom
18:04:28 <ynpvisitor17> all this action must have some effect on Giantess
18:04:33 <ynpvisitor34> One could say the same for Steamboat and Giant too this year! Remarkable.
18:04:42 <lc> I saw Giant and Steamboat in 24 hrs. not the same day.
18:04:55 <ynpvisitor17> this guy was different days too lc
18:05:10 <ynpvisitor17> very good year for the big ones
18:05:37 <Kevin L™> NG
18:05:52 <lc> I know several gazers that have caught Giant and SB in 24 hrs.
18:07:02 <lc> I think Kitt, Jim, StevO and me were the first.
18:07:24 <lc> would not bet the rent on that.:-}
18:09:36 <999 on phone> 2018 has its new geyser, JSJ. There's a new one 16 feet north of Doublet
18:10:50 <999 on phone> Usually Doublet thumps, but the 1759 ie has 2 foot splashes. Yay!
18:11:58 <ynpvisitor99> So SC could go major!
18:12:24 <lc> that had to be Graham
18:12:59 <JSJ> A Split Cone major - that would be as cool as a Sponge major.
18:13:28 <ynpvisitor34> When was the last time a new geyser opened up in the UGB? Norris pool? Small sput by Plume?
18:13:29 <lc> well I'm out of here.
18:13:41 <lc> have a good night all.
18:13:52 <Kevin L™> Night
18:14:00 <ynpvisitor99> Butterfly?
18:14:13 <ynpvisitor99> I guess it is not new, but dormant
18:14:22 <ynpvisitor99> or doormat
18:14:37 <ynpvisitor34> Improbable?
18:15:38 <ynpvisitor71> Looks like NG again. Kind of hard to tell with the flashlights
18:16:08 <ynpvisitor99> Wow looters in North Carolina are not very good. Dollar General? You think thy could loot a better store.
18:16:39 <JSJ> Disasters bring the worst out of everyone. That's why cops are supposed to be watching.
18:17:54 <999 on phone> I'm off for real now. Enjoy the rare ones while you can :)
18:18:16 <JSJ> Getting dark. Go rares!
18:18:23 <ynpvisitor34>
18:20:01 <ynpvisitor99> But Dollar General? You could pack a SUV and only get away with 100 bucks worth of stuff.
18:23:21 <Michael (???)> Internet connection keeps dropping, so I've got to call it a night. A very strange night indeed.
18:24:59 <ynpvisitor71> Too dark for my eyes. Good night everybody.
18:32:09 <ynpvisitor99> BH will have to wait for daylight.
18:47:40 <ynpvisitor4> Geyser Hill other worldly right now. New things, things be a changing. Not a bad day to be in the UGB.
18:51:42 <ynpvisitor4> Aurum went again at 2008 or 2006. I am sure Steve will post. Doublet boiling high. Pendant erupting, geyser over in the trees erupting. Fumeroles under the boardwalk toward Sponge. Ear looks like a bomb went off with chunks of sinter and concrete block spread around. Erupted again before eight o'clock.
18:52:34 <Kevin L™> Wow!
18:54:12 <ynpvisitor4> I am glad real gazers are on the scene. We will get data. I just stood around saying "my word!" with my mouth open.
18:57:07 <Kent> Off to my cabin to take drugs.
18:57:22 <Kevin L™> :)
18:57:40 <Kevin L™> Stay away from OF cone
19:25:18 <ynpvisitor105> If I didn’t know any better I’d say that Getser Hill is having a disturbance!
19:26:27 <ynpvisitor105> Geyser Hill
19:59:51 <ynpvisitor62> Aurums only 3 hours apart!
20:00:08 <ynpvisitor62> When is the last time that happened?
20:00:38 <ynpvisitor62> 3 Aurum day on GT
20:01:45 <ynpvisitor62> North Goggle seems to be gaining height as night goes on
20:02:09 <Kevin L™> I missed all 3 Aurums.
20:30:51 <Kevin L™> NG going strong. Too bad it is dark.
