05:35:07 <Mike J> Good morning Dave. (Just got back to the screen. Didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.)
05:57:26 <Dave from B™> Morning CraigC
05:58:11 <Dave from B™> Craig, on your Moab post on FB thru the canyon...were you on an ATV or in a pickup?
05:59:32 <LindaG> Bwaggs, starting to snow
05:59:34 <CraigC> Dave from B™, in our Jeep Cherokee
06:01:57 <Dave from B™> Was that wide enough for vehicles to pass eash other?
06:03:27 <CraigC> in some places, not in that section. We tried going up it over the weekend, and there was another vehicle stopped, because there was snow on the ground, and they said they were slipping trying to go up, so I had to back down about 100 yards to a spot to turn around. A little unnerving
06:03:48 <ynpvisitor33> indy

06:23:03 <Kat> Just missed it! Darn :(
06:25:37 <LindaG> 😔 oh sorry Kat
06:26:03 <LindaG> Hard to see OF was in the way
06:27:09 <Lori S> Answered teh one email we got overnight. Back to gazing.
06:27:27 <LindaG> 🤗
06:28:25 <ynpvisitor33> of
06:31:25 <Lori S> Is that Riverside back there?
06:31:36 <Lori S> hard to see
06:32:04 <KittyM> That was what I was thinking, Linda. Finally saw Bee but could hardly see anything
06:33:23 <LindaG> KittyM, makes us appreciate those blue sky days
06:34:54 <Lori S> Daisy?
06:34:58 <Lori S> Daisy ?
06:35:14 <Lori S> So much steam!
06:35:14 <ynpvisitor33> yes
06:35:16 <LindaG> Good catch
06:35:46 <Lori S> On the Daisy or the Riverside ?
06:36:23 <Lori S> I'm not entirely sure where Riverside shows up back there which is why I asked.
06:36:29 <LindaG> Well I guess both
06:37:07 <LindaG> Daisy was hard to see
06:37:16 <Dave from B™> What happened at Echinus this morning? Big Temp drop....pool drain?
06:37:32 <ynpvisitor33> riverside shows dead center in this view
06:38:23 <ynpvisitor33> have not seen it yet
06:38:33 <Lori S> Thx. Not sure enough to post it, but if Riverside, I saw the steam increase at maybe a minute after Old Faithful started.
06:38:50 <Lori S> Ok 33. Now I know for next time. :)
06:39:29 <ynpvisitor33> rside will be soon
06:39:57 <LindaG> There is a webcam reference image link below that helps
06:40:36 <Lori S> Well, who knew. Thx Linda
06:40:54 <LindaG> 👍
06:41:54 <Lori S> That is a very handy diagram. Perhaps I should spend time clicking on all the links!
06:42:21 <ynpvisitor33> Lori, grotto area was active about that time
06:42:46 <LindaG> There's all sorts of things on this page thanks to eric.
06:43:48 <Ryan> Eric, whatup with the colors on the reference image?
06:51:28 <ynpvisitor33> riverside
06:51:28 <LindaG> Maybe riverside
06:51:36 <LindaG> Definitely
06:58:31 <Lori S> I looked away and missed Riverside. :(
06:58:45 <LindaG> Oh no!
06:59:17 <Lori S> At work. Had to talk to the maintenance guy about something and missed it.
06:59:25 <LindaG> It happens 😔
07:00:16 <Lori S> I think Eric should make a diagram with all the geysers in it ie. LOL
07:00:58 <Lori S> Mary G would be all over that photo. :)
07:01:03 <LindaG> Somewhere on the park website there is a section that shows some of them
07:01:56 <Lori S> I guess it would be more of an artist's rendering than a photo.
07:03:31 <Lori S> But seriously, the one he made is so helpful!
07:03:46 <LindaG> Lori S, look at this https://www.nps.gov/media/photo/gallery.htm?id=25CA5679-155D-451F-6758AED73EE7C4D3
07:04:18 <Lori S> Nice
07:04:57 <Bill> That's neat!
07:05:04 <CraigC> LindaG, thanks, I hadn't seen that
07:05:55 <Bwaggs> Good photos, must keep that link handy
07:06:10 <Katie> Good morning
07:06:16 <LindaG> Betty had sent me it when I wanted to know where aurum is
07:06:16 <Bwaggs> LindaG, the snow has begun!
07:06:53 <Katie> Here it feels like the snow hasn't stopped for a month straight.
07:06:55 <LindaG> Bwaggs, havent looked lately but snow started out light
07:06:58 <CraigC> I have a folder in my bookmarks spcifically for geyser stuff
07:07:19 <LindaG> Good morning katie
07:07:31 <Katie> Oh, and good morning.
07:08:44 <LindaG> CraigC, hey Craig so you made it out of arches ok?
07:11:13 <CraigC> LindaG, we went into Arches during the day before the snow dumped that night. Then there was 6 inches in the morning when we drove home
07:11:32 <LindaG> Wow that's a lot
07:11:55 <CraigC> yeah, that is a lot of Moab, more than I have ever encountered in all the years I have been going there
07:12:02 <CraigC> for, not of
07:13:04 <CraigC> we have about 8 inches of new powder here at my house.... just finished plowing it all, and some of my neighbors
07:13:37 <LindaG> How much snow do you usually get?
07:15:34 <CraigC> back in the 'good'ole'days', this was usual... but last 10 to 15 years, this year has been quite a bit more
07:19:26 <Lori S> Craig, what area are you in? Same here in West...lots more snow this year that compares to the "good ol' days"
07:21:52 <LindaG> And we've had less
07:29:33 <CraigC> I live in North Ogden, about 60 miles north of Salt Lake City. I am right against the mountains, also.
07:30:12 <Lori S> Dave from B...Regarding Echinus , it has a great pattern going on the logger. Looks like the last 'event" was very early yesterday (unless you see a logger I don't).
07:30:50 <Lori S> "Something is going on..." at Echinus
07:32:52 <Dave from B™> I guess that was yesterday
07:34:03 <Lori S> YNM seismo is once again causing me worry as well. Offline.
07:35:06 <Lori S> Even if yesterday, it has a nice spike up and down.
07:36:03 <Lori S> Ok, down. But bet it went up right after based on the earlier spikes.
07:37:11 <Lori S> Wait, that makes no sense. LOL Should be up THEN down
07:39:38 <LindaG> Looks like bulger
07:43:06 <Dave from B™> Lori, that is what I thought was odd. Normally there is a temp rise and then pool drains and it cools. I'll be anxious to see the update
07:43:12 <Lori S> coyote
07:43:16 <LindaG> Coyote
07:43:28 <Dave from B™> nice
07:43:31 <LindaG> Got me by 4 seconds as lol
07:43:37 <Lori S> haha
07:43:49 <Lori S> looking for snacks...
07:44:18 <CraigC> it's going to head over and attack those tourists
07:44:29 <Lori S>
07:44:33 <LindaG> Haha
07:44:35 <Lori S> hah
07:44:45 <CraigC> what a cool view
07:44:47 <Lori S> bison
07:44:52 <Dave from B™> stay away from that bison buddy
07:45:24 <ynpvisitor48> why? the coyote is 3 times as big as the bison!
07:45:25 <LindaG> Hes thinking g "Its all mine"
07:45:36 <KittyM> nice!
07:45:50 <Lori S> hoomans
07:46:06 <KittyM> For a second I thought you meant their was a geyser named coyote! duh
07:46:17 <Dave from B™> 48, that coyote is not too smart if that's what he is thinking:)
07:46:37 <Lori S> Kitty, you sound like me. :)
07:46:47 <LindaG> If it doesnt turn blue it's not a geyser😉
07:47:10 <KittyM> LOL Lori
07:48:17 <Lori S> red orange yellow green blue indigo spring violet
07:48:23 <Lori S> was curous
07:48:27 <Lori S> curious
07:48:38 <CraigC> or else it is just not on GT
07:49:13 <Lori S> coyote going the other way now
07:49:23 <LindaG> Wow hes out by OF
07:49:40 <Lori S> he may get a shower here soon
07:50:05 <Dave from B™> I can't see him
07:50:19 <LindaG> He went behind d cone
07:50:25 <Lori S> behind of cone
07:53:51 <Eric> dome on static
07:58:09 <Eric> You guys do know there is a labeled photo of the entire basin in the Help & Links Section to the right?
07:58:42 <Eric> But I do like Linda's link that has what they look like while erupting
07:58:44 <LindaG> The webcam image reference right
07:59:04 <Lori S> Eric, yes, Linda pointed that out to me earlier. Great reference!
08:00:37 <Kevin L™🌵> Well at least you left Grand for me Linda.
08:01:04 <Dave from B™> I haven't "seen" Joe for awhile
08:01:13 <LindaG> I'm not on ca
08:01:20 <LindaG> *Cam
08:01:39 <Katie> Joe was here yesterday morning.
08:01:43 <Kevin L™🌵> OK, for some reason I thought it was you this morning.
08:02:33 <LindaG> No problem, I would have saved it for you🌝
08:02:35 <Kevin L™🌵> Grand and a doggie
08:03:06 <LindaG> Now that's timing Kevin
08:04:32 <Kevin L™🌵> Only problem is we are in OF window.
08:05:26 <Lori S> It should be called the Upper Geyser Basin Cam :)
08:06:13 <Lori S> of
08:06:42 <LindaG> That pesky hood
08:07:35 <LindaG> Those two have a good iew
08:07:44 <LindaG> *View
08:10:15 <Lori S> Does that group not see that huge steam plume to their right?
08:10:26 <Lori S> Awww, Plume
08:11:06 <LindaG> Lol I thought they were watching , but maybe not
08:11:31 <Kevin L™🌵> I think they were looking at the doggie
08:32:29 <LindaG> So is that plume steaming, a little to the left of OF steam?
08:33:26 <Kevin L™🌵> Looks like it is something on the hill behind Plume.
08:33:49 <LindaG> So plume is closer to OF?
08:34:17 <Lori S> closer to the boardwalk
08:34:23 <LindaG> By boardwalk?
08:34:38 <Kevin L™🌵> Just behind the bw
08:34:48 <LindaG> Oh ok
08:34:51 <LindaG> Thx
08:35:50 <LindaG> Not one I've ever really paid attention to
08:36:30 <Kevin L™🌵> It was fun when active. Used to scare people who were not expecting it.
08:36:41 <Lori S> I didn't know there was a Boardwalk Geyser
08:37:11 <Lori S> Yes, Plume was fun!
08:38:16 <LindaG> I didnt know it was inactive
08:38:45 <Kevin L™🌵> Been inactive for several years
08:39:34 <LindaG> Probably clogged with people's stuff
08:40:05 <Kevin L™🌵> I think it blew its plumbing out.
08:40:26 <Katie> I just read the history of Solitary geyser this week. That's interesting.
08:40:35 <CraigC> have you done that before, Kevin? :)
08:41:04 <LindaG> Well explains why I've never seen it
08:41:05 <Kevin L™🌵> I think a few times Craig
08:41:16 <Lori S> :O
08:41:21 <Lori S> oops
08:41:40 <Lori S> :-/
08:42:04 <Lori S> ewww
08:42:39 <LindaG> LC ie
08:43:21 <Lori S> EDR coffee helps with plumbing.
08:43:32 <LindaG> Split cone is steaming
08:44:00 <Dave from B™> haha Lori
08:44:55 <CraigC> EDR?
08:45:14 <Lori S> Employee Dining Room (Xanterra)
08:45:20 <LindaG> My thoughts exactly craig
08:45:36 <LindaG> Ah haha
08:45:48 <CraigC> LOL
08:46:22 <LindaG> Maybe that's what giantess needs
08:46:51 <Lori S> ROFL... Don't give any ideas to the employees.
08:47:42 <Lori S> One of which I used to be :)
08:48:27 <LindaG> 🌝
08:48:27 <Eric> Woot...I have power walked 30 miles in the last 7 days :-)
08:49:02 <LindaG> 👍
08:49:09 <Lori S>
08:51:07 <Dave from B™> Congrats, Eric.
08:51:20 <Dave from B™> Can't wait to start walking in snowpacked MT
08:51:30 <LindaG> Looks like dome again on static
08:51:37 <Eric> Thanks....my legs are tired now :-P
08:51:40 <CraigC> good job, eric
08:52:27 <Eric> Dome
08:52:46 <Dave from B™> nice catch Kevin
08:52:54 <LindaG> And solitary on hillside

08:53:24 <LindaG> But there is a hillside geyser 🌝
08:57:46 <Casey> Morning
08:58:11 <LindaG> Good morning
09:02:14 <Casey> Daisy
09:02:35 <LindaG> nice
09:02:43 <Kevin L™🌵> Doggies & Daisy.
09:07:00 <LindaG> If could use him in my driveway
09:07:32 <Kevin L™🌵> I could use him in my freezer
09:07:43 <LindaG> Lol
09:11:01 <Lori S> I could use him in July when there are too many people.
09:11:31 <Bwaggs> ;)
09:12:09 <Kevin L™🌵> Just keep him away from the roads!
09:12:41 <LindaG> That's always eye opening when one is one the road
09:12:43 <Eric> Do the Bison wander into West Lori?
09:13:10 <Eric> When I am there, I always spend as little time in West as possible :-P
09:13:12 <LindaG> *on
09:14:01 <Lori S> They have in the past, like in the 90's, but not recently. Foxes, though.
09:14:02 <CraigC> the trick is to leave West before 7AM, and stay in the park til after 8 or 9
09:14:16 <LindaG> I saw a guy once let his dog out and it was chasing the bison, I thought there would be a stampede
09:14:24 <Lori S> Craig has that right!
09:14:43 <Lori S> Or work the Night Audit Shift and be asleep mid-day.
09:15:02 <CraigC> we saw lots of bison in the homes area out on Rainbow Point
09:15:25 <CraigC> they eat the grass in the yards
09:15:39 <Lori S> I avoid Canyon and Madison in summer. The west end is usually OK.
09:15:49 <LindaG> With all of its nutritious chemicals
09:16:20 <Lori S> Yes, they do wander into residential areas north of town.
09:17:02 <Lori S> And onto 191!
09:18:24 <Lori S> Linda, people and their dogs! I don't get why they even bring them in the park.
09:18:52 <Lori S> I have a dog. he stays home when we go in.
09:22:47 <Kevin L™🌵> Pet in the park = Bear Chow
09:23:19 <Dave from B™> Craig, speaking of dogs. How would they do if we traveled with them to any of the Utah parks.
09:25:14 <Eric> Thanks Lori...yep. That is even true when I am in a cabin at OF :-P out by 6am - back in by 11pm
09:25:36 <Eric> Unless something is possible earlier or later.
09:31:53 <CraigC> Dave from B™, we have taken our dog to Moab, but then we do hikes outside the parks, and there are some good ones there. You can see pretty cool stuff close to parking lots in Canyonlands and Arches, but there are some great hikes to arches where you can't take pets, so not sure how you would deal with that
09:34:40 <Dave from B™> We've never travelled with dogs but we would like to go somewhere with them so we aren't leaving them with Taylor all the time
09:36:12 <Dave from B™> We will never take them to YNP
09:36:30 <CraigC> I think whenever this dog of ours dies, I won't get another one until later in life when I am not wanting to travel and explore as much
09:37:39 <Dave from B™> But they're so much fun!
09:38:05 <CraigC> since my daughter moved out, it stressed me more last week on our trip, having my daughter go check on him a couple of times a day rather than living there
09:40:44 <Lori S> Dogs need their people, that's for sure.
09:40:44 <CraigC> OF
09:40:52 <Dave from B™> Yeah...our daughter basically housesits when we are gone. So, I hate always upending her life as well
09:41:34 <CraigC> my dog is actually her dog, but I wouldn't let her take it, cuz this is his home :)
09:42:55 <Lori S> Our dog keeps our trips into the park short, that's for sure. Long hikes are out.
09:43:44 <Lori S> He isn't people-friendly so only the two of us can care for him. Kennels are out.
09:43:47 <CraigC> Lori S, have you ever hiked up to Harlequin Lake?
09:45:18 <Lori S> CraigC, No, but I have wanted to. The thick forest after the 88 fires makes us leery of encountering a bear suddenly.
09:45:52 <Lori S> We've been waiting for the trees to get taller. LOL
09:45:55 <CraigC> Lori S, yeah.... I was going to comment about that. Creepiest hike I have ever done, we were freaked out, there was bear poop on the trail in many spots
09:46:12 <CraigC> it is so narrow, and dense
09:47:08 <Lori S> Yup. Those darn proliferous lodgepoles.
09:47:32 <CraigC> lots of cool white rabbits or hares, though, my daughter loved that part
09:51:03 <Dave from B™> Casey, if you don't know who you are....I can't help you
09:51:54 <Lori S> Rabbits/hares could also mean large kitty cats...
09:52:31 <Lori S> Given the cats like to stalk, that would be the perfect spot.
09:52:45 <CraigC> could be
09:53:44 <Lori S> Off to lunch.
10:10:57 <Casey> I know who I am again, Dave.
10:11:16 <ynpvisitor33> Kevin, which radio do you use along with your R-pi for your virtual radar server?
10:12:30 <Kevin L™🌵> I am not sure. The guy (bald geek) that runs it sent me the antenna and setup and I just hook it to my router.
10:12:57 <ynpvisitor33> ah, ok thanks
10:15:47 <Betty> hi all

10:23:21 <Kevin L™🌵> This is his website. May have more info there. He is pretty friendly. http://thebaldgeek.net/index.php/flight-radar/
10:28:37 <ynpvisitor33> tks Kevin that site has all the info that I needed
10:29:26 <Kevin L™🌵> I watched Betty fly out of Vegas on it last time she came.

11:41:00 <Betty> Aurum on static?
11:41:37 <Betty> LC
11:41:44 <Kevin L™🌵> Looks like it. OF steam sure covered it on streaming

12:30:24 <Betty> mine works too
12:30:27 <Dave from B™> Yep...it came back to us a bit ago
12:30:51 <Lori S> Most excellent.
12:30:54 <Kevin L™🌵> Bill fixed it.
12:31:14 <Lori S> Free drink on me for Bill
12:31:59 <Kevin L™🌵> Put the lime in the coconut...
12:32:33 <Lori S> :)
12:33:37 <Dave from B™> Did Bill have to get on his snowmobile and go to Norris to fix it?
12:34:23 <Lori S> What causes it to go blank?
12:35:10 <Dave from B™> usually power outage?
12:35:40 <Lori S> Then I'm shocked it doesn't go blank more often.

13:16:05 <Dave from B™> what?
13:16:20 <Eric> Dave from B™› I sure wish Kaleidoscope group was accessible
13:17:15 <Albert E.> Yup, noting Einsteinium (element 99)
13:18:46 <Dave from B™> haha...or a spotting scope if you'll carry it for me
13:19:43 <ynpvisitor72> Dave have you seen JSJ's videos?
13:20:15 <Lori S> I read that as: It is Dave with a pair of binoculars. As in, look there is Dave with binoculars.
13:20:15 <CraigC> have you checked out the old wagon wheel tracks next to Kaleidoscope area? Going from the old Fountain Hotel over to the Firehole
13:20:59 <Lori S> Those tracks are cool to llok at. Area was well traveled.
13:21:08 <Lori S> look :i::i:
13:21:16 <CraigC> lol
13:22:06 <CraigC> another area cool to look at on Google Earth is west of geyser hill where the military camp used to be
13:22:16 <ynpvisitor72> I'm surprised no one was burned in that area back in the day. Kaleidoscope is sorta legendary for it's instability.
13:22:47 <ynpvisitor72> CraigC I really with the boardwalk/path from Beehive overlook to Crested was there.
13:23:02 <CraigC> me too
13:25:30 <Lori S> What did we do before Google Maps?
13:25:58 <Lori S> Or Google
13:26:18 <ynpvisitor72> Used compasses and walked into the Yellowstone Library in person like animals.
13:26:34 <Lori S> :)

13:27:15 <ynpvisitor72> One of my dreams has been to visit the national archives to track down some of the original reports.
13:27:30 <Eric> That would be cool
13:27:33 <ynpvisitor72> This fall I plan to go to BYU to look at Marler's notes.
13:27:42 <ynpvisitor72> They're apparently stored in a case 8 feet long.
13:28:52 <CraigC> that sounds scary, going to BYU
13:29:39 <ynpvisitor72> Stepping foot on another college campus sounds scary enough.
13:29:41 <Lori S> Craig LOL
13:29:48 <CraigC> Kevin L™🌵, man, I loved growing up with World Book.... I used to sit on the floor and go through each one when I was a little kid
13:29:49 <Lori S> Just don't take the tour. :)
13:30:26 <Kevin L™🌵> My Dad used to sell those Craig. We would get the new sets every year.
13:30:44 <Lori S> I plagerized a lot of World Book for papers in High School. Not proud of it. But I got A's
13:30:51 <CraigC> I loved the science book ones that came out over so often
13:31:05 <CraigC> every
13:31:29 <Kevin L™🌵> Can you remember the one with the hologram of the chess pieces?
13:32:40 <CraigC> no.... I remember the ones with transparent sheets of overlays of skeleton and muscles and organs
13:34:07 <CraigC> ours had to have been from late 60s or early 70s
13:35:02 <CraigC> white with greenish lettering
13:35:48 <Kevin L™🌵> Those were cool too. The chess pieces was neat. It had a red sheet and a clear one. You would back light it and you could see a knight in a magnifier. You would look from the edge and it was out of the magnifier.
13:36:04 <Eric> I am glad encyclopedias are gone!
13:36:10 <Kevin L™🌵> I think my Dad still has a set of those.
13:36:58 <Eric> Almost always written from a very narrow perspective and dictated much of what kids learned about the world.
13:37:46 <ynpvisitor85> same as the internet?? :D :D
13:37:50 <Kevin L™🌵> And that is different than now?
13:38:29 <CraigC> yeah, I believed that Pluto was really a planet ;)
13:39:01 <Kevin L™🌵> I still don't know what it is if it isn't a planet.
13:39:05 <Katie> that wasn't the example I would have used, but I would have said that reference materials that don't have corrections to knowledge have long since outlived their usefulness
13:39:38 <CraigC> I think it is a vegetable, Kevin, but not sure
13:39:47 <Kevin L™🌵> :)
13:42:16 <GO GIANT> Giant needs to erupt before SB
13:42:24 <GO GIANT> got to keep the race competitive
13:42:47 <Kevin L™🌵> Unlike Daytona...
13:42:56 <Katie> Giantess needs to show us proof of life
13:43:09 <Lori S> I'd be happy with another Giant and Steamboat at the same time.
13:43:29 <Kevin L™🌵> Or an Aurum we could see.
13:43:32 <CraigC> Lori S, when was that?
13:43:39 <GO GIANT> we could have said that about SB before March last year .. haha
13:43:49 <Lori S> Oh geez. You had to ask. let me go look. LOL
13:44:04 <CraigC> naaa, just wondering aloud, doesn;t matter
13:44:13 <Eric> Wikipedia is actually pretty darn good. Not perfect, but much better than any encyclopedia ever created!
13:44:15 <GO GIANT> we had one 9/17 ..... i remember it well .... its happened since then too i think
13:44:19 <Lori S> I promise it was a thing.
13:44:24 <Dave from B™> 72, no, I haven't looked at videos of Kaleidoscope Group
13:44:44 <Lori S> GO GIANT, Twice?
13:44:45 <Dave from B™> Craig, I loved the skeleton overlays in Encyclopedias
13:44:49 <CraigC> Eric, I agree, in spite of people that criticize whenever it doesn't match their views
13:45:03 <Eric> The cool thing is if you don't think wikipedia is good enough, you can contribute to it with references!
13:45:16 <LindaG> I remember giant and Sb going the same day, it would have been fall 2018
13:45:22 <ynpvisitor72> Lori, I believe Giant and Steamboat have erupted at least 3 times within 24 hours in the past year.
13:45:41 <Lori S> Well, yes, but I meant literally at the very same time.
13:45:41 <Dave from B™> They erupted on the same day 4 or 5 times last year
13:45:46 <Micah> Give me a second, I can look it up in the sput, Tara wrote about those instances.
13:45:59 <Katie> & follow the primary source material and check and so much more. The Oxford English Dictionary started out as a crowd-sourced reference, too. The best are.
13:46:00 <Micah> Give me a *few minutes* correction
13:46:05 <Eric> Have they overlapped eruptions?
13:46:22 <GO GIANT> domer
13:46:26 <GO GIANT> or dome
13:46:30 <Micah> Not to my knowledge Eric no.
13:46:30 <Lori S> I mean erupting AT THE SAME TIME. As in a dual but in different basins.
13:46:31 <CraigC> I have copied and pasted Bernie Sanders' stances from wikipedia the past few days to those ignorant souls that think he wants to make the USA into a socialist state
13:46:46 <Katie> Yes, there was one day that Steamboat and Giant were erupting simultaneously.
13:46:50 <Eric> Steamboat does go for multiple days :-P
13:47:06 <GO GIANT> well SB was erupting during Giant on 17th
13:47:09 <Dave from B™> I want a YOUNG President...enough with people 60 and over
13:47:10 <Lori S> Eric, yes they did. Now I have to go find it.
13:47:11 <Katie> We were watching Giant when Steamboat seismo signature showed up, IIRC.
13:47:13 <Micah> I don't think there was ever a time this season where both were in Water phase.
13:47:14 <GO GIANT> just in steam phase
13:47:39 <CraigC> Dave from B™, yeah, that is an issue for me, too
13:47:42 <Micah> I watching North Goggle erupt while Steamboat was in water phase. That counts for something right?
13:47:43 <Lori S> Water phase for both at the same time. Didn't start at the same time but were ie together.
13:47:55 <Eric> If we were watching giant and SB seismo showed...that would most likely be a water phase overlap
13:48:01 <GO GIANT> only if it was a Major Micah
13:48:13 <Dave from B™> CraigC, I think of how much my mind has slipped in the last 5 years and I'm only 55.
13:48:22 <CraigC> ditto
13:48:32 <Micah> I feel like Intermediates have taken the place of majors. Unfortunately. But that's just a hunch.
13:48:45 <Eric> I just want a smart president....not too picky :-P
13:48:53 <GO GIANT> ok, so it doesnt count for anything Micah
13:49:01 <LindaG> I second that eric
13:49:01 <Micah> What else is new.
13:49:35 <GO GIANT> i was upset when 1h14m extended fill resulted in nada
13:49:54 <Lori S> I think I put it on my FB page...could take me rime to find it but I believe I was awake during it. Though my memory is also a bit fuzzy.
13:50:02 <Micah> Yeah, by all historical accounts, that should have been a major GO GIANT
13:50:03 <GO GIANT> Micah is taking his time
13:50:09 <Dave from B™> Ditto, Eric and one that is respectful to everyone
13:50:14 <Katie> Steamboat & Giant - Nov. 7, 2018 - 1616 for Steamboat and 1612 for Giant - as I recalled, we were watching Giant when we saw seismo
13:50:26 <Dave from B™> Well, have a great evening everyone. Time to go home.
13:50:30 <Micah> Katie, whoops I totally forgot I posted about that on fb. lol
13:50:34 <Micah> My bad
13:50:39 <GO GIANT> yeah Katie
13:50:44 <Lori S> Thank you Katie!!!
13:50:45 <Kevin L™🌵> Good Knight Dave.
13:50:45 <Micah> GO GIANT. I'm writing about another sput right now. Give me a little bit.
13:50:59 <Katie> And I didn't use Wikipedia. ;)
13:51:13 <Lori S> Haha Katie
13:51:16 <LindaG> I remember that day
13:51:26 <GO GIANT> ooh which Sput? i need to write something for the Sput
13:51:34 <Kevin L™🌵> Faisy
13:51:36 <GO GIANT> daisy
13:52:54 <Micah> I'm polishing something I need to send to Tara about Mickey
13:53:17 <ynpvisitor13> Faisy!!
13:57:12 <Casey> Looks like a Turban
13:57:16 <Lori S> Eric, at this point, I will take an average IQ over what we have!
13:57:34 <Lori S> Smart would be great, but less dumb would also work.
13:58:24 <Lori S> ...President. In case that got llst in the thread.
13:58:28 <Lori S> lost
13:59:41 <Kevin L™🌵> I saved Grand for you Graham.
14:01:52 <Katie> I was looking at the chat for that day (I'm bored). Eric suggested on that day that a text be sent for Steamboat. It was. Later someone said "that an UGB event?"
14:02:18 <Katie> But, here's what I'm getting to. When we DO have folks in the Park that might receive texts, a Steamboat text would allow some to get there... Just a thought.
14:02:37 <Micah> The word usually spread pretty fast.
14:02:38 <GO GIANT> thanks Kevin
14:03:07 <Micah> Several gazers were refreshing seismo's throughout the day on their phones.
14:03:13 <Micah> And a radio call would go out when Steamboat was sen.
14:03:15 <Micah> seen*
14:03:20 <GO GIANT> i think a SB text is worth having in-park
14:03:33 <Katie> the day I *just* missed the water phase, I saw plume from Norris-Canyon road - far away. I was thrilled to see what I did.
14:03:33 <ynpvisitor13> And Giant
14:03:35 <Micah> Agreed tho.
14:03:38 <GO GIANT> or for people that are not in the basin ....
14:03:42 <ynpvisitor13> Radios sometimes die without people knowing
14:03:51 <Lori S> I vote for a SB text. Though, a chip under my skin that would shock me would also work.
14:04:15 <Micah> Well radios are clogged enough as it is too.
14:04:23 <CraigC> how about both, for those of us with radios, but phones with no service
14:04:54 <GO GIANT> if SB goes in-window, those that want to be there are already there
14:04:59 <Lori S> How about a bat signal? :D
14:05:05 <CraigC> LOL
14:05:06 <Micah> GO GIANT agreed.
14:05:19 <CraigC> true, touche'
14:05:24 <GO GIANT> did we have a Lion solo today?
14:05:43 <Casey> No. I commented on the 2nd in the series. Must not have been posted
14:05:54 <GO GIANT> the last SB eruption date/time is also posted at Madison junction now
14:05:57 <Lori S> "SB in-window" such a nice thing to be alive for
14:06:07 <Micah> Enjoy it while it lasts.
14:06:12 <Casey> 15:14:37 ‹Casey› Lion
14:06:22 <Casey> I'll post it
14:06:49 <Katie> That the words S
14:07:12 <Katie> "Steamboat" and "window" were just used in the same sentence, not as a joke, is something I never thought I'd see
14:07:19 <Casey> Oops wrong time
14:07:37 <Lori S> Like watching the trees grow after the 88 fires, I learned some things I used to say incorrectly about Steamboat while guiding once I saw it erupt!
14:07:46 <Ryan> That window is currently less than Beehive
14:07:51 <Lori S> Katie
14:07:53 <Casey> Lion posted (and now corrected)
14:08:12 <Micah> I'm itching to go watch Giant again. I want to know what's going on between it and Grotto
14:08:23 <Casey> Grand
14:08:25 <GO GIANT> thanks Casey
14:08:28 <Katie> And now it's been 30 years. I was 13 in '88, so couldn't imagine 30 years.
14:08:55 <Micah> Grand
14:09:05 <Eric> haha...SB in window, Norris Laughs at you Graham :-P
14:09:08 <Micah> Poof
14:09:17 <Ryan> Frand
14:09:21 <Casey> You're welcome Graham. Glad you noticed it wasn't posted
14:09:46 <GO GIANT> Micah - it will be nice to know Grotto durations. when i was there I think they were all 4+ hours and one at least a lot longer
14:09:50 <Lori S> My first time the park (and guiding) was 89...
14:10:24 <Micah> GO GIANT. It would be nice if it was having Marathons so we can actually walk away from it every once in a while....
14:10:54 <Katie> We usually went to Yellowstone 1-2x per year when I was a kid (probably Memorial & Labor Day Weekends). '88 we went many more times to see it unfold. They waived Park entrance fees during since so much of the Park was inaccessible.
14:11:12 <Katie> My Dad kept saying they were missing out on the fees from people like us going over and over again to witness it.
14:11:13 <GO GIANT> it had at least one true long marathon ..... and others where bijou shut off but dont know how long they were
14:12:09 <Micah> Logger records would be helpful....
14:12:34 <GO GIANT> strong hot periods seemed to follow the depth charging and gurgling in SW vents for long periods
14:13:11 <GO GIANT> i want the Ftn and Morning logger data
14:13:18 <Lori S> Katie, took me since 89 to actually see a water SB major start. Saw several steam phases in prior years.
14:13:54 <Micah> Well if there are any duals the Fountain Logger will pick it up.
14:14:45 <CraigC> Katie, we were there about every other week in 88, it was a great year to see changes happening right in front of us
14:15:15 <Lori S> I will never forget the wildflowers in the spring of 89!
14:15:30 <Katie> I'll be missing the weekend the Interior roads open for the first time in many years this year. We will be in Guatemala. I'm also missing March 1 - will be in Las Vegas. I'm not happy about that timing.
14:16:18 <Lori S> I saw the snow melt to reveal the black ground, then the colors exploded.
14:16:38 <GO GIANT> nice to see that Lori
14:17:14 <Casey> Ok, Grand, settle down. Save some for the 2nd.
14:17:15 <Katie> One of my most memorable images is watching bison pawing/digging and still smoldering ground, to get at roots. Black smoking earth - and bison digging in it for roots.
14:17:21 <Lori S> Wish I'd taken more photos! But it was my first time here so I didn't know...
14:17:55 <CraigC> my photos from 88 look crappy, I didn't know how to adjust for the smoky lighting
14:18:02 <Lori S> Casey
14:18:32 <Casey> 2nd
14:18:39 <Casey> I'm the geyser-whisperer!
14:18:47 <Jake> with regards to the earlier discussion, I've thought about GT sending text alerts based on user preferences. I know there's a desire for it. It wouldn't be free though.
14:19:22 <Katie> I had a 128mm point and shoot in '88. Dad had a 35mm SLR, though.
14:19:45 <Eric> I think selective texting of notifications is probably overkill
14:19:51 <Katie> A Twitter feed that people could opt-in to for SMS notifications would be free. I know Twitter users aren't universal, maybe not even in the majority, but...
14:19:53 <Lori S> I've heard so many stories about 88. Must have been something.
14:19:53 <GO GIANT> Grand has died down now ...
14:20:15 <Eric> OF
14:20:22 <CraigC> nope
14:20:23 <Ryan> GHG5
14:20:26 <CraigC> yep
14:20:32 <CraigC> LOL
14:20:37 <Casey> Lion
14:20:51 <Eric> Lion
14:21:04 <Lori S> Bat signal, I tell you. Shine a blue beam into the sky!
14:21:37 <STS (Sam)> Joined right at the peak of action I see lol!
14:21:54 <Eric> Steamboat, Giant, Giantess or other extremely odd geyser notes are all worthy of a quick text IMHO
14:21:58 <Lori S> Yes, you did. STS (Sam),
14:22:40 <GO GIANT> Giantes is good ..... gives people a few hours to get to Vault ... but the BW is closed :(
14:22:58 <Lori S> Eric, can I text for Indigo Spring ? :)
14:23:17 <GO GIANT> erupting 15 feet, yes
14:23:54 <Lori S>
14:23:56 <GO GIANT> in overflow/not in overflow - no
14:24:17 <STS (Sam)> Oops, I entered of even though it didn’t really go. Deleted.
14:24:18 <Lori S> I meant for an eruption...
14:24:27 <GO GIANT> dome
14:24:30 <Eric> Dome
14:25:36 <Eric> ohh, sorry about that Sam....I thought for sure it was kicking off there!
14:26:10 <STS (Sam)> Haha, no worries. Just some preplay
14:26:44 <Lori S> GO GIANT, I don't know how to send those texts anyway.
14:26:52 <Jake> I have different criteria for what I want alerts on but I may be in a minority
14:27:18 <Eric> Just close your eyes when the wrong ones come in Jake :-P
14:28:22 <Lori S> Can I send alerts for Rusty? (kidding)
14:29:20 <Jake> I just looked at what it would take to have one of those "TEXT Beehive to XXXXX" numbers (called SMS short codes) $500/month!
14:29:42 <Lori S> Does anyone know if bbev actually saw Indigo Spring erupt?
14:29:45 <STS - laptop> Some more OF preplay
14:30:32 <CraigC> Lori S, send him a msg on FB and ask
14:30:43 <Eric> Twillio could handle automated sms/push notifications if we ever want to go down that route
14:31:01 <Lori S> if I can find him on there.
14:32:00 <STS - laptop> I'm betting on an OF eruption in the 1hr50min range...hasn't had one of those in a while
14:32:43 <CraigC> Lori S, go to the GG group and type his name in the search box
14:33:25 <Lori S> CraigC, well duh. LOL
14:33:31 <CraigC> :)
14:34:00 <LindaG> OF ie
14:34:10 <Lori S> finally
14:34:37 <STS - laptop> Aw man, my prediction was wrong :(
14:36:32 <GO GIANT> Jake - you didnt say what your minority opinion was on texts
14:38:11 <CraigC> Jake quit, no?
14:38:34 <GO GIANT> i guess he texted himself away
14:43:30 <CraigC> we lose YNM again?
14:43:55 <GO GIANT> looks like it
14:44:10 <Kevin L™🌵> Dave broke it
14:44:36 <STS - laptop> At least Steamboat shouldn't be going off for another few days
14:44:36 <Lori S> :(
14:45:20 <Lori S> I still think it's due for a 4-5 dayer. Based on nothing other than speculation. LOL
14:45:46 <GO GIANT> SB will past shortest interval in 10m
14:46:07 <Lori S> LOL
14:46:50 <GO GIANT> abd that was a drop if just over 2 days
14:52:55 <GO GIANT> multiple peeps out
14:53:50 <CraigC> bet it is cold with that wind
14:54:30 <ynpvisitor99> Grand over 6 hours
14:55:06 <ynpvisitor99> Should be ready for a 7 hour one soon
14:55:18 <Eric> Grand went at 1608
14:55:24 <Ryan> Womp womp
14:55:42 <Eric> ohh, I see what you were saying there :-D
14:57:19 <GO GIANT> as soon as i comment on its run of sub 6h intervals it snubs its nose at me
14:57:21 <GO GIANT> dome
14:57:26 <Lori S> I think it will do an 8 hour
14:57:34 <Lori S> ROFL
14:58:34 <GO GIANT> BH is happy, maybe another before dark
14:59:01 <Lori S> < < < < Knows nothing about Grand intervals.
14:59:45 <GO GIANT> they have been short. 5 Grands in one day are fairly rare but happened 10 and 18 Feb
15:01:30 <Ryan> Aurum?
15:01:46 <Ryan> Aurum
15:01:49 <Ryan> 1701
15:02:53 <Bill> Just contacted some people and there were some network problems earlier in Norris
15:03:08 <Bill> They were just ping'd and are reporting that they're fine. It'll take a bit to download the data
15:03:27 <CraigC> Bill, thanks
15:05:34 <Bill> np
15:05:37 <Lori S> Bill, Now I owe you 2 drinks
15:06:03 <Bill> I was kind of hoping they were down so i had an excuse to get out there
15:27:30 <Kevin L™🌵> I wish Aurum intervals were that short Ryan.
15:34:35 <ynpvisitor17> so it wasn't Aurum?
15:35:15 <ynpvisitor17> interesting my Aurum is not blue
15:35:24 <ynpvisitor17> there we go, wonder why that happened?
15:35:42 <GO GIANT> the ? did it
15:35:46 <Ryan> It doesnt like "?"
15:35:52 <Ryan> Kevin, well something was putting water up
15:35:58 <ynpvisitor17> good to know
15:36:29 <Ryan> Last entry was 1340
15:37:07 <ynpvisitor17> I see that. Then you posted it in the chat, and then Kevin, moments later, said he wished intervals were that short, so I am guessing he meant no Aurum
15:38:47 <Lori S> 17, put a space between the name and the punctuation. Aurum .
15:39:37 <Ryan> 1340-1701? That 3hr 20min
15:39:54 <Ryan> Something was definitely erupting...
15:40:49 <Kevin L™🌵> I didn't see the last one so I can't say. It is possible but not if I am around!
16:04:52 <ynpvisitor66> OF
16:05:33 <Ryan> Oblong?
16:06:05 <GO GIANT> turban and vent maybe?
16:06:30 <Ryan> 2hr restart?
16:06:38 <Ryan> Not enough steam for Oblong, but it seems late for Vent
16:07:37 <GO GIANT> Solstice major
16:07:59 <Ryan> :D
16:08:39 <Ryan> guess its gonna be a duration thing
16:08:52 <Ryan> Cause were siz minutes in
16:08:58 <Kevin L™🌵> Oblong?
16:09:06 <Ryan> I think Oblong
16:09:14 <Ryan> Unless its Mastiff lol
16:10:15 <Kevin L™🌵> UNNG G14b1?
16:15:02 <GO GIANT> its a Mastiff Marathon
