00:07:27 <ynpvisitor85> Yeah, Steamboat!
00:08:02 <ynpvisitor85> Bet Norris will be icy!
01:35:07 <ynpvisitor109> Big spike on Tantalus. Need to remove the ? On GT. Definitely SB!
02:26:35 <ynpvisitor85> I’m sure Kevin will be happy to remove the ?, once he is done sleeping
03:01:23 <ynpvisitor105> so 8 6 2 are the counts now and we hit 40 SB eruptions in under 12 months so far
03:12:48 <ynpvisitor45> water reached the Tantalus Creek water gauge at ~0045 and peaked at ~0100 nice Steamboat
03:14:45 <ynpvisitor105> interesting if it started quiet and then got loud, the trace looks like that.
03:15:56 <ynpvisitor105> I wonder if the auto-detectors picked the start or later fatter signal
03:34:06 <Rice> Balmy -21 this morning!
03:35:28 <ynpvisitor45> Looking at Castle on the GOSA rep;ay from 1649 through 1713 and beyond I do not see water only normal post eruptive steaming
05:04:03 <Kat> Washburn Southwest view! Nice
05:04:29 <Kat> Bison are stirring at North
05:07:51 <Kat> OF 0706
05:12:01 <Kat> Elk joining the bison at North
05:19:28 <GO GOGGLE> Glad we got another SB
05:19:57 <Kat> :)
05:22:28 <CraigC>
05:27:25 <ynpvisitor45> Graham could check your Castle on the GOSA replay, i looked from 1649 through 1713 and beyond I do not see water only normal post eruptive steaming
05:28:28 <CraigC> and we never saw him again
05:29:25 <CraigC> hey dave, how's the shoulder?
05:30:49 <CraigC> hey Ryan
05:31:10 <Ryan> Some days my body decides to lose circulation below my elbows and I lose feeling in my fingers and they go numb and turn purple in the cold between the car and class.
05:31:17 <Ryan> Today was one of those days. Morning lol
05:34:11 <CraigC> you're getting old
05:38:14 <Ryan> Haha, maybe. Compartment syndrome is an issue I deal with.
05:38:24 <Ryan> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BhLhzXr7qh22MCw9r-eGGg2P0wi6-yFPPf21_zjS4hA/edit?usp=sharing
05:38:26 <Ryan> Updated
05:44:00 <Dave from B™> Hi, Craig. Shoulder is better everyday. 1 week Dr followup is this afternoon. 7 days to warmth.:)
05:46:00 <CraigC> Hope you get good news
05:48:51 <Dave from B™> I'm hoping to get out of my sling way before the 4 weeks that was mentioned last week.
05:49:21 <Dave from B™> I'd love to be out next Tuesday
05:50:32 <CraigC> hey 999
05:50:44 <ynpvisitor999®> morning everyone
05:54:20 <Kat> Morning!
05:55:33 <Dave from B™> Jarno, good morning. Yesterday, I believe Rice was asking about what was happening at Echinus the past month. Do you think just overflows or are there some eruptions in there?
05:56:53 <ynpvisitor999®> it seems Echinus is trying, much like it did before the October 2017-January 2018 active phase.
05:58:18 <ynpvisitor999®> I think it's initially strong(er) overflow followed by no overflow, which repeats until it either 'stops' or a minor or especially strong series of overflows occurs. We've had one eruption due to this activity, though, so there's good hope it'll finally spring to life this season
06:00:32 <ynpvisitor999®> you can actually see this activity quite clearly on the 1 month graph: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/captures/yellowstone/echinus-1m.png
06:01:48 <Dave from B™> Thanks Jarno
06:02:37 <Dave from B™> Pretty small footprint on SB last night
06:02:51 <ynpvisitor999®> it does that :)
06:03:26 <Dave from B™> Yes, it does. I still think that is somewhat ground temp related
06:06:00 <Ryan> I think if you look at the flood pulse, and how big and sudden it was, I think it was a very water heavy eruption which has been known to create small seismic traces. :)
06:07:09 <ynpvisitor999®> It's definitely one of the better pulses we've had in a while
06:08:07 <Ryan> Tantalus has a lower flow rate right now - probably because everything is frozen up...
06:10:40 <ynpvisitor45> i have not done any studies on this but I think the frozen ground/frost depth tends to dampen the seismic waves.
06:12:30 <Dave from B™> I believe everyone is correct. I like Ryan's statement as well.
06:14:21 <CraigC> I only agree with Dave
06:14:41 <Dave from B™> That's not going to get you very far in life!:)
06:15:01 <CraigC> hey Bill
06:15:09 <Dave from B™> Morning Bill
06:15:09 <ynpvisitor45> we should see a Grand plume within the hour
06:15:18 <Bill> Morning!
06:15:27 <Kat> Morning all!
06:16:47 <Ryan> 45, there are correlations between the seismic traces and visual observations that seem to indicate a large portion of the vibrations being picked up by the instruments is coming from above ground acoustic waves rather than below ground shaking.
06:17:34 <Ryan> Namely, eruptions that have gotten noticeably quiet halfway through the water phase have show reductions in the seismic traces that can be matched via time stamps on the videos.
06:18:08 <Ryan> Which is... weird, but not impossible I guess, that SB doesn't shake the ground more...
06:18:12 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Bill
06:19:37 <ynpvisitor45> yes that is very true above ground acoustic waves are a part of seicmic waves
06:19:41 <Ryan> I could be totally wrong on that, its just what my understanding is from the people who spend a lot more time both in basin and looking at the data than myself.
06:20:21 <ynpvisitor999®> we should ask fishynp when they're around - they most likely know more about this topic
06:22:06 <Ryan> Who is fishynp? Someone can privately tell me if they want. My sources are people with a decade or more experience of using data loggers and seismographs with visual observations (they hold research permits). Fishynp may even be one of them lol
06:23:10 <ynpvisitor999®> fishynp is someone from the UofU seismic network
06:25:23 <Ryan> Thanks to who told me privately - I trust a name more than a number - no offense to the numbers here who do great work. Just easier to verify, ya know?
06:25:55 <Ryan> I'd love to hear his thoughts on this.
06:26:05 <ynpvisitor999®> me too
06:26:08 <GO GOGGLE> Ryan i agree th e above ground sound is likely correlated with below ground shaking but i dont know how you can determine if th e seismo is picking up much from the above ground signal
06:27:10 <GO GOGGLE> When its quiet above ground its likely quiet below ground too
06:27:26 <Dave from B™> Bill might even have an opinion on this
06:28:52 <Dave from B™> Yeah...it's quiet when it's not erupting:)
06:30:29 <GO GOGGLE> It could still be noosy undergroumd as th water and steam reorganizes itself too, like the monitoring at OF that mapped the water flow below ground and out to the boardwalk
06:32:10 <ynpvisitor999®> looks like some bubbler action
06:32:25 <Kat> I agree
06:33:40 <ynpvisitor45> bubblers showing on static
06:34:14 <Ryan> Fair point, GO GOGGLE. The sub-surface system could be doing to same as the above ground.
06:35:28 <Ryan> Though, there was an eruption in October where NV got totally drowned: dropping from 250+ft to under 50ft for a couple of minutes as wash-back covered the vent. The eruption got really quiet. And the seismograph showed that. I'd suspect the below-surface system did not change much.
06:35:51 <Dave from B™> It's fun that we are getting a chance to even think about these things regarding SB
06:36:37 <Ryan> Another thing I'd point out is that my experience with testing rocket motors showed that internal systems don't create nearly as much noise and vibration as external systems - it seems to be the interaction with the atmosphere that caused a lot of the noise.
06:36:55 <Ryan> Indeed, Dave, amazing that we can discuss this. Even more amazing the effects these discussions have.
06:45:23 <ynpvisitor999®> OF
06:45:36 <ynpvisitor999®> nice cloud
06:53:41 <Dave from B™> I'm assuming you mean how defensive people get....I have a political explanation for that but I'm going to stop at that.
06:53:56 <ynpvisitor999®> Grand
06:53:57 <ynpvisitor45> grand
06:54:04 <Dave from B™> wow
06:54:50 <Sam> Beautiful cloud from Grand

06:55:30 <ynpvisitor45> sprinkler at the same time :0
06:55:40 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Sam and Jake
06:55:58 <Jake> you might have to open it in incognito mode to get past the paywall on the article
06:56:13 <ynpvisitor999®> I'd have to open it using VPN...
06:57:41 <CraigC> Jake, my favorite way into Arches is Willow Springs road... :)
06:58:33 <CraigC> then I stop by and pay tribute to Ed Abbey where he lived when he wrote Desert Solitaire
06:58:40 <Dave from B™> Thanks, Jake
06:58:52 <Rice> Great I am going there this summer!
06:59:12 <Katie> Good morning
06:59:16 <Dave from B™> CraigC and Jake, why wasn't shuttle busses discussed at Arches?
07:00:10 <CraigC> Dave from B™, good question, they work perfectly at Zion, and Arches doesn't have that many diverse routes
07:00:25 <Kat> Hi Katie! Sounds like you had a great weekend!
07:01:13 <Jake> it's mentioned briefly in the article, too expensive and the road is too long with too many off-shoots. I assume it was discussed at length before deciding on reservation system
07:01:15 <CraigC> hey Katie
07:01:42 <Sam> Good mornign
07:01:47 <Sam> morning*
07:02:10 <GO GOGGLE> Ryan sorry for the delay. I dont know how deep the sound is that the Seismo picks up. If its high in the plumbing then the Oct drowning effect could quieten it too.
07:03:10 <Ryan> GO GOGGLE, it wouldnt shock me if the sound is generated primarily really high in the plumbing system.
07:03:24 <GO GOGGLE> It also could be surface noise, i just dont have any way to determine it.
07:03:45 <GO GOGGLE> We obviously hear whats going on outside a lot more than inside
07:05:31 <Kat> Bubblers...
07:07:34 <Ryan> GO GOGGLE, I am talking purely on experience with internal flows with rocket motors, which are different than geysers for sure, but the mechanics have parallels.
07:09:19 <Ryan> In rocket motors we can get vibrations internally, but we dont usually get acoustics until the gases exit. We know that the fluid in the geyser is a mix of water and steam - the ratio we dont know - but we do know that acoustics muted in such fluid mixtures.
07:10:28 <Ryan> As the flow reaches the surface its going to expand, accelerate, and start shaking everything around it via sound, expansion, etc. If that is anything like most internal flow models I know of, then that behavior happens only in the upper ten to fifty feet of the plumbing system.
07:10:58 <Ryan> Indeed, I think the rumbling, thundering, crackling noise you're hearing is the interaction between the plume, exiting fluid, and the static air surrounding it.
07:12:26 <ynpvisitor45> Daisyt
07:13:14 <ynpvisitor45> Daisy*
07:41:37 <CraigC> hey Kevin
07:41:45 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Kevin
07:45:44 <Bill> Dave from B™, sorry for the late response on this! Karen Luttrell would be a great person to ask on this project (HD YLake). I don't personally have a lot of knowledge on this other than thinking that it's neat!
07:46:39 <Bill> https://hdylake.org/team/
07:48:02 <ynpvisitor45> Kevin, you can remove your ? on sb :)
07:51:34 <Ryan> Thanks, Bill!
07:51:51 <Kevin L™🌵> Morning. Will take the ? off. I caught it late knight on the ipad so I wasn't sure
07:51:58 <Ryan> Bill, I am sure you've been asked this before: whats up with the Steamboat temp loggers?
07:52:17 <Bill> Actually I havent been asked much, but it's a fair question.
07:52:54 <LindaG> Good morning all! Yay SB
07:53:31 <Bill> In a nutshell we (USGS) assumed it was a battery problem, so we swapped batteries on Echinus, Constant and SB. Fixed all but SB. After a couple more troubleshooting trips out we found that the logger itself is bad
07:54:12 <Bill> Sent the logger off to get replaced - took a couple months. We got a new one, I deployed it, it works, but it has a newer version of their radio system that's incompatible with the radio system in NGB
07:55:00 <Bill> We ordered a replacement, but they didnt send us the RMA for a month, and they didn't even start putting the new one together until we sent them the old one.
07:55:33 <Bill> So right now we are playing the waiting game for them to send us a new logger with an old radio.
07:56:11 <Bill> It's been incredibly frustrating. The "good" news is that we have two NPS loggers in the same outflow channel at SB. One exactly where the USGS logger was, and another at the boardwalk bridge just below.
07:56:23 <Dave from B™> And, that is how an "easy" project goes on for months:)
07:56:34 <Bill> Exactly
07:56:51 <Jake> that's quite the saga
07:57:02 <Jake> similar to The Iliad
07:57:06 <Bill> I left out a lot of troubleshooting and cursing.
07:57:32 <Jake> Jason and the Loggernots
07:58:33 <Dave from B™> Bill, that was implied!:)
07:59:16 <Dave from B™> Bill, I hope we get a chance to meet this year
07:59:36 <Kat> Have a good rest of your day all!
07:59:48 <Jake> Bill, you'll have to post your dates when you'll be available in the basins for autographs!
07:59:49 <Kevin L™🌵> Bye Kat
07:59:49 <Ryan> Wowza, well, thanks for all the work. We all really appreciate it!
08:00:06 <LindaG> Hi and bye kat
08:01:14 <Bill> Dave from B™, that'd be great! Are you going to be here over the summer?
08:01:21 <Eric> Morning all
08:01:27 <Bill> Hey Eric
08:01:35 <Eric> Hi Bill
08:01:36 <LindaG> Hi eric
08:01:40 <Eric> Hi Linda
08:01:47 <Jake> a gazer introduced me to T. Scott Bryan early one morning at Beehive years ago and offered up that he would sign my Geysers of Yellowstone.
08:02:11 <Jake> I'm not sure TSB was too thrilled with that
08:02:44 <ynpvisitor999®> morning Eric
08:02:50 <Eric> Hmm, never met an author that wasn't thrilled to sign his own book :-D
08:03:12 <Eric> Hi Jarno
08:03:42 <Dave from B™> Bill, I will be spending 10-18 nights in YNP throughout the summer
08:04:20 <Bill> Let me know when it gets closer. I'll be in the field quite often over the summer.
08:04:24 <Kevin L™🌵> Went on a private hike with TSB and the gazers to White Creek. It was one of my most memorable times in the park.
08:04:39 <Eric> That would be a lot of fun Kevin
08:04:56 <Eric> I would love to hike White creek!
08:06:02 <Kevin L™🌵> He was also at my first full moon geyser (0200 BH) along with the Strassers, John Muller, and Herb Warren. Very good memories.
08:07:11 <Dave from B™> Kevin, how many years ago was that?
08:07:25 <Dave from B™> Morning Eric
08:07:31 <Eric> Hi Dave
08:08:04 <Jake> TSB is the 2nd most famous person I've seen in the UGB, wait, 3rd
08:08:15 <Kevin L™🌵> I think it was early 80's, possibly 82. What was funny is someone called LE on us saying there was a wild drunken party going on at BH.
08:08:46 <Dave from B™> Jake, I knew I wasa #1 on your list:D
08:08:56 <Jake> I saw the owner of the Indianapolis Colts in the Inn (would've had no idea who he was but he had an NFL jacket on and someone told me later)
08:09:27 <Dave from B™> Jim Irsay, I presume
08:09:29 <Jake> I saw a guy that had a show on Discovery or one of those channels. he was barefoot. apparently he's always barefoot
08:09:36 <Jake> anyway, someone had to tell me that he's famous too
08:09:58 <Kevin L™🌵> I saw President Nixon at the Grand Tetons. Messed up traffic something awful.
08:10:27 <Jake> I missed Chuck Norris when he came into the Tower store on my off day
08:10:30 <Dave from B™> I've never met anyone famous
08:10:39 <Eric> I saw lincoln at mt. rushmore!
08:11:28 <Kevin L™🌵> :)
08:12:03 <Dave from B™> I would have believed that Eric, if Kevin has said it.
08:12:17 <Kevin L™🌵> I was at BH once and my big boss showed up. Neither of us knew the other was coming.
08:12:29 <Eric> Thats funny
08:12:33 <Jake> and you had called in sick?
08:12:41 <Kevin L™🌵> I did vote for him Dave.
08:12:50 <Eric> haha
08:13:24 <Jake> call in sick with a case of the ______ ______. what's a good geyser-related term to use here?
08:13:46 <Jake> heavy runoff
08:13:49 <Jake> hot period
08:13:52 <Dave from B™> :D
08:14:12 <Dave from B™> Big Depression
08:14:41 <ynpvisitor999®> throwing up hot water
08:14:42 <LindaG> Morning glory
08:15:17 <Eric> geyseritus
08:15:48 <LindaG> Uhoh Eric morning glory isnt all blue
08:16:04 <Eric> Yes, Morning trumps glory :-P
08:16:26 <LindaG> Hehe
08:16:37 <CraigC> Jake, was the barefoot guy Cody Lundin from the survival shows?
08:16:40 <Eric> ohhh, or you have to add pool, morning glory pool
08:17:00 <LindaG> Ah left off the pool, apologies
08:17:10 <Eric> Jakes fault, not yours :-P
08:18:20 <LindaG> He made me do it lol
08:18:36 <Jake> must have been, CraigC, unless there's more than one
08:18:59 <Jake> I remember it was a fairly cool day and he was barefoot, shorts, no shirt
08:19:07 <Jake> out at Sawmill
08:19:19 <CraigC> long blonde hair?
08:19:49 <Jake> possibly
08:20:24 <CraigC> way way back I met Robert Redford at SLC airport and we didn't know it, because he was all straggly for Jeremiah Johnson, but my dad had me go get John Lindsays autograph, mayor of NY, and Robert talked to me LOL
08:20:45 <CraigC> saw their pics in the paper the next day DOH
08:23:51 <Eric> I have met joe montana a couple times. My boss is buddies with him, so I see him at our office sometimes :-P
08:24:41 <Dave from B™> That's right. You work part time in SF don't you?
08:24:55 <Dave from B™> Or, that is company HQ
08:25:06 <Eric> Yes, company HQ in bay area
08:25:37 <Dave from B™> How much time do you spend there
08:25:59 <Eric> I haven't been down there for over a year...so very little lately. But I used to go down about once a month.
08:26:01 <Kevin L™🌵> Do you remember Bart Oates Eric?
08:26:31 <Eric> Nope
08:26:45 <CraigC> be back in a few, gonna go get in a mtn bike ride before the storm turns trails muddy again
08:26:47 <Eric> I don't follow a lot of pro football, but everyone knows Joe :-P
08:26:53 <Kevin L™🌵> He was the Center for Steve Young.
08:26:56 <Eric> enjoy craig
08:27:01 <Eric> ahhh
08:27:41 <Kevin L™🌵> He used to eat Supper at my place on Monday nights for a while.
08:28:02 <Kevin L™🌵> He was a BIG guy.
08:28:14 <Eric> I bet
08:29:00 <Kevin L™🌵> I can't remember the name but a 49er punter used to drive late models at the Bullring.
08:30:42 <Dave from B™> I'm still struggling to come up with someone famous
08:31:04 <Lori S> Busy morning at work. Finally got on here. 8 & 40.
08:31:27 <Eric> Hi Lori
08:31:32 <Kevin L™🌵> You see a lot of them here in Vegas.
08:31:54 <Lori S> Hi Eric
08:33:01 <Dave from B™> I've seen lots of famous people just not spoken with any
08:33:44 <ynpvisitor999®> SC
08:33:58 <Eric> I know a famous fish monger from billings, MT!
08:34:29 <Dave from B™> haha...not hardly
08:34:43 <ynpvisitor45> I've seen many famous people at the theater :)
08:35:36 <Dave from B™> 45, Chewbacca doesn't count
08:35:49 <ynpvisitor45> :)
08:35:55 <Kevin L™🌵> Neither does Benji
08:37:20 <Dave from B™> Joe Dimaggio ate at an adjacent table at a SF restaurant that he frequented. His pictures were all over the restaurant.
08:37:30 <Lori S> RE famous people: passed Michael J Fox on the stairs in the Inn. Served breakfast to Michael from 30 Something in Alaska. Toured Dean Johnson from Home Time to OF in winter.
08:41:34 <Eric> I feel famous by proxy here :-P
08:42:13 <Eric> ohh, and I went to college and hung out with lex luthor from smallville :-D
08:42:29 <Lori S> Leslie Quinn toured Bill Gates around the park. :)
08:42:53 <Eric> Nice...I am surprised he didn't bring in his own private snow wagon.
08:43:04 <Kevin L™🌵> No crashes?
08:43:08 <Eric> haha
08:43:52 <Lori S> Haha, no, they were on a Karst bus. I partied with Drew Carey at his fraternity Kent State. I recall him insulting me so well I didn't pick up on it until a day later. LOL
08:44:10 <Dave from B™> I got it...I met Dan Rather
08:44:21 <Lori S>
08:45:10 <Dave from B™> I went to college with the son of the Head of CBS news. We even watched a newscast from the studio
08:45:16 <Lori S> Leslie got to see him use a Blackberry prototype so that would date the visit.
08:45:31 <Dave from B™> I met Dan Rather on a tennis court in CT on the same trip
08:46:20 <Eric> See Dave...you do know famous people!
08:46:56 <Lori S> Dan Rather would be great to share a meal with just for the conversation.
08:47:58 <Lori S> Oh, I went to high school with Linda Carter's niece.
08:48:57 <Kevin L™🌵> Linda Carter was a big draw for guys my age.
08:49:25 <Lori S> Her niece was a looker as well. :0
08:49:28 <Lori S> :)
08:50:42 <LindaG> Huh I guess I've never met anyone famous, cant think of anyone, I feel so left out. 😔
08:51:57 <Lori S> have you met Lee Whittlesey? I'd consider him famous. :)
08:52:12 <Kevin L™🌵> A true legend.
08:52:26 <Lori S> Indeed. And a good poker player.
08:55:20 <LindaG> Oh I met John Boy, cant thinkmof his real name
08:55:50 <Dave from B™> Yes, I've met Lee. A good guy. Took a couple Institute classes he taught. He was at SB platform last year during one of my sits
08:56:03 <Jimbo Hassium> Hey, it's spelled Lynda Carter. Really improves the Google search results!
08:57:03 <Kevin L™🌵> Yes, and that is one the deserves a search.
08:57:34 <LindaG> Bee is steaming good
08:57:58 <Lori S> Who knew about the Lynda. And John Boy... that's worth more in that I'd expect that to be a more rare occurence.
08:59:15 <LindaG> Ah Richard Thomas. Met him at a kennel club meeting he raised bichon frises
08:59:36 <LindaG> Geez a long time ago
09:06:01 <LindaG> Doggies on deck
09:06:37 <Kevin L™🌵> They came for BH
09:07:01 <LindaG> Somethings making noise on Norris seismo
09:08:01 <Dave from B™> Steamed bison
09:08:06 <LindaG> Kevin L™🌵, they need a good shower, long winter
09:08:25 <Kevin L™🌵> Looking for a hot lunch
09:08:50 <LindaG> A sampling of scrumptious bacteria
09:11:08 <LindaG> If that Bush on the left wasnt there I would never fi d bee
09:11:28 <LindaG> *find
09:11:39 <Kevin L™🌵> Hard to see it today.
09:18:15 <Lori S> I have :sb: steam phase photos! Abt to upload on Gazer page.
09:18:41 <Kevin L™🌵> From last knight?
09:19:15 <Lori S> Yup. Texted to me by my Bob...tour to Canyon today.
09:19:34 <Jimbo Hassium> Geyser Gazer Facebook page?
09:19:52 <Lori S> yes...
09:20:05 <Lori S> stand by
09:20:09 <Jimbo Hassium> Thanks, I'll see them there
09:22:10 <Lori S> Ok, they are posted. :)
09:23:00 <ynpvisitor45> can you post them here for us non facebookers ?
09:24:17 <Lori S> How do I do that?
09:24:43 <Eric> We do need a way to post images here.....
09:24:59 <ynpvisitor45> just put the link in the chat box
09:25:13 <ynpvisitor45> link to the photos
09:25:13 <Dave from B™> Just tell 45 about them...That should do it:)
09:25:16 <Eric> They have to be uploaded someplace 45
09:25:32 <Eric> She uploaded them to facebook
09:25:53 <ynpvisitor45> ah, i get it
09:25:58 <Lori S> There lies my issue. I am not a snapchat, tweet, instagram person
09:27:09 <Eric> Yes, uploads here would be nice, but controlling spam/porn/copyright stuff is maybe a bit beyond my effort level
09:27:29 <Lori S> Geyser Porn :)
09:27:41 <Eric> Now that I can handle!
09:28:56 <Dave from B™> Lori, I probably wouldn't google that:)
09:29:19 <Lori S> Dave, that tells me you did. LOL
09:30:23 <Dave from B™> no way, Jose
09:31:02 <Dave from B™> Lori, so do you and your Bob take a vacation in between seasons?
09:31:49 <Lori S> Haha, What's a vacation? No $ for that.
09:32:10 <Kevin L™🌵> Yes, what is a vacation?
09:34:47 <Lori S> Actually, we do an annual trip to a USFS cabin in early April for a few nights. And enjoy the temporary silence in West.
09:35:12 <Eric>
09:35:27 <Dave from B™> That works!
09:35:34 <Lori S> Standing in the middle of highway 20 in daylight for 5 minutes is an experience not to be missed. :)
09:35:49 <Kevin L™🌵> Sometimes those are the best.
09:36:18 <Dave from B™> You could have done that last week for 4 days in a row!
09:36:30 <Lori S> Dave, LOL
09:36:46 <Lori S> Not in town though. 191 was still open
09:37:07 <Dave from B™> Lori, I'm assuming you have been to Two Top in winter
09:37:31 <Lori S> Um, no. I've never snowmachined in the national forest. Shocker.
09:37:54 <Dave from B™> wow....you have to do it. Ghost trees are incredible
09:38:08 <Lori S> Wait, not true. I rode one once to help with a dog sled race here years ago.
09:38:38 <Lori S> I almost wrecked cuz I was going to fast over a small hill, actually. How could I forget that?
09:39:17 <Lori S> It costs money to rent a snowmobile. See the lack of $ mentioned above.
09:40:23 <Dave from B™> I just assumed you knew someone in West that would loan you one
09:42:47 <Kevin L™🌵> Is today Mardi Gras?
09:44:23 <Lori S> Dave, I don't get out much. :D
09:45:10 <Lori S> And I have no friends. :p
09:45:25 <Dave from B™> What are we? chopped liver?
09:45:46 <Eric> Tuna salad Dave

09:53:33 <Jake> Lori, what time of day were those Steamboat photos?
09:54:15 <Jake> I guess it doesn't REALLY matter if it's 8am or 11am. An impressive plume from the steam phase!!
09:54:50 <Lori S> He texted them at 11 so maybe 10? I'll have to ask. he is out of text range now.
09:56:20 <Lori S> he has Floridians that he couldn't talk into walking down there but they got spritzed in the lot.
09:57:02 <Lori S> there's Daisy
09:57:15 <Lori S> my delat must be more than 30 sec
09:58:32 <Dave from B™> Lori, how deep is the snow from lot to SB?
09:59:14 <Lori S> Not sure. Last he was down there, before the last storm, the snow pack was up to the top of the railing. Off to lunch. Homemade chicken soup.
10:00:00 <Kevin L™🌵> Sounds good (but not so much for the chicken).
10:00:06 <Dave from B™> wow
10:00:11 <Lori S> hehe

11:03:00 <Kitt> tell him the traffic was bad
11:03:12 <Katie> Geysers promote health

11:03:44 <Kitt> or watch bee tonight on replay
11:04:17 <CraigC> it's not the same watching it on a screen later compared to watching it on a screen now
11:04:21 <Eric> Ya...steamboat might have caused some not pleasant physical issues with people..
11:04:46 <Dave from B™> There is at least one that thinks long term exposure to SB isn't good
11:04:59 <LindaG> Seems subdued today
11:05:07 <Kevin L™🌵> Can cause mental illness.
11:05:07 <Kitt> several were affected by the silica
11:05:45 <Katie> I got wet and gritty and my black coat turned gray. What affects did others experience?
11:05:47 <Dave from B™> Breathing it in?

11:06:09 <Eric> I got sunburned pretty good on my hands
11:06:10 <CraigC> :)
11:06:15 <Kitt> yes, breathing silica into lungs is an irritant
11:06:40 <Katie> that makes sense. The same stuff that coated my outside was inhaled...
11:06:41 <LindaG> Have a funny feeling about this indy
11:06:46 <Eric> I know Bruce took a beating at steamboat
11:07:20 <Kitt> what kind of feeling?

11:31:44 <LindaG> CraigC, I like that one, very cool. Thx kevin
11:32:20 <Kevin L™🌵> It is a pretty geyser but has a very limited viewing area.
11:52:41 <Kevin L™🌵> Not a smart person.
11:53:03 <Terry> Hopefully not as close as he looks to be.
11:53:36 <Kevin L™🌵> Probably about 10 feet away
11:54:00 <Terry> Not good
11:54:05 <Katie> Even accounting for telephoto compression - too close
11:54:15 <Jake> I think it's more than 10 feet
11:54:33 <Jake> less than 25 yds
12:00:21 <Jimbo Hassium> Cute youngster
12:03:04 <Jake> in the end, it was another successful photo op without consequence

13:02:08 <Dave from B™> Sweats have been my friend for the past 8 days
13:10:14 <Dave from B™> Kevin, it sounded like you had a blast during Race Week. I missed the next go around in LV by 1 week!!!

13:34:18 <Joe> I'm glad you are doing so well :)
13:34:36 <Dave from B™> I was wondering who 45 was!
13:34:49 <Dave from B™> My arm feels weird without the sling
13:35:07 <Joe> I'll bet
13:35:28 <Dave from B™> How's your recovery going?
13:35:51 <Joe> wery well
13:36:30 <Dave from B™> That's great news...still no zip lining for me next week but it is nice to be sling free
13:36:46 <Joe> I still have to use the sling at nights
13:37:16 <Dave from B™> That was something I wanted to ask the doc but I forgot
13:37:55 <Joe> i more week and they will let me move it on my own
13:39:56 <Joe> on a shoulder replacement they scrape the bicep loose then drill a hole in the bone and yte it off when they are done
13:40:10 <Joe> tie8
13:40:21 <Dave from B™> That makes me cringe just thinking about it
13:40:54 <Joe> hence not much movement on your own
13:40:54 <Dave from B™> I'm reALLY GALD THINGS WENT WELL FOR YOU. yOU DESERVE SOME GOOD NEWS FOR A CHANGE
13:40:57 <Dave from B™> oops
13:41:36 <CraigC> we recognize that typing
13:41:45 <Joe> thanks Dave, I hope yours continues to do well
13:44:13 <Dave from B™> CraigC, you are too fast a learner for me. Don't you have another bike ride to go on?:)

13:45:04 <CraigC> I am LOL
13:45:09 <Dave from B™> You picked up on the typing right away!
14:03:59 <Dave from B™> I saw a comment that you were over 300...I don't see that in your pics on FB
14:04:08 <Dave from B™> btw, how's Jenny doing?:D
14:05:40 <CraigC> the 300 was a joke about losing 100 lbs
14:06:58 <Dave from B™> ok...that makes sense
14:08:56 <Kevin L™🌵> I can tell you how to lose 100 pounds really easy.
14:09:30 <Joe> i'm all ears
14:09:46 <CraigC> ???
14:09:47 <Kevin L™🌵> Go to a Casino in London.

14:10:59 <Kevin L™🌵> See what happens to you when you run a cam for 7 years.
14:11:53 <Dave from B™> I was wondering what happened. I thought you inhaled too much asphalt.
14:13:13 <Dave from B™> Anything good on TV tonight? I'm alone until 2130
14:13:36 <Kevin L™🌵> Knights are on tomorrow
14:14:07 <Kevin L™🌵> Saw a great old Cagney movie last night.

14:21:31 <LindaG> And Dave too!
14:22:26 <Joe> thanks Linda
14:22:44 <CraigC> 3rd season of True Detective on Amazon was really good
14:25:07 <Dave from B™> thanks Linda
14:25:19 <Dave from B™> I like Detective shows
14:25:50 <Kevin L™🌵> Film noir is fun.
14:26:52 <LindaG> If you want something entirely different watch Russian doll on Netflix, not a detective show
14:28:24 <Dave from B™> Do I look like an entirely different kind of guy?:)
14:28:48 <Dave from B™> Aurum?
14:29:07 <Dave from B™> Hard to tell
14:29:09 <Kevin L™🌵> It keeps teasing Dave.

14:35:11 <Kevin L™🌵> You have to quit buying keyboards from Dave.
14:35:27 <LindaG> Yes, Wyoming
14:35:32 <CraigC> he's a cowboy, but modern crime mysteries
14:35:56 <CraigC> the stories are cheesy, like Nancy Drew, but the characters are awesome

14:37:37 <Kevin L™🌵> He types like you now.
14:37:52 <CraigC> yesterday in a town near me, a 4-year-old stuck their hand under a fend to play with the neighbor's dog, and the husky bit off her arm below the elbow and they never found it, maybe it ate it
14:37:59 <CraigC> under a fence
14:38:11 <Kevin L™🌵> Ouch!
14:38:13 <LindaG> Ewwww

14:56:44 <CraigC> I should be fixing something for dinner before my honest woman gets home
14:57:04 <CraigC> b b b but....geysers
14:57:19 <Dave from B™> Juist hit 3 on the microwave and you're goog
14:57:22 <Dave from B™> good*
14:57:28 <CraigC> LOL
14:57:50 <Dave from B™> Hope your honest woman likes popcorn
14:57:52 <Kevin L™🌵> Shoot, with a microwave you don't even need to open a can anymore.
14:58:14 <CraigC> we're doing low carbs, so we do good dinners now, nothing packaged
14:58:35 <CraigC> last night was a roast and cauliflower baked like mashed potatoes
14:59:23 <Dave from B™> Yeah...I've had riced cauliflower a few times this month:(
14:59:48 <Kevin L™🌵> The roast I could do. Cauliflower is the food equivalent to snow.
15:00:39 <Kevin L™🌵> Something out of Castle now
15:00:59 <Kevin L™🌵> I do like broccoli though.
15:02:34 <CraigC> Cauliflower is kind of like tofu.... blank canvas waiting for spices
15:03:05 <CraigC> I added garlic, oregano, and cumin
15:03:25 <Kevin L™🌵> It is like eating the box something came in.
15:04:54 <CraigC> LOL
15:05:21 <CraigC> I like asparagus, too
15:05:59 <LindaG> Asparagus with garlic and olive oil baked. Yum
15:06:02 <Katie> Asparagus is one of my two favorites - the other is Brussels sprouts. I like broccoli. I really like cauliflower.
15:06:05 <Kevin L™🌵> Same here. Really good when you pick it by the canals.
15:06:50 <Kevin L™🌵> Also love fresh picked peas
15:08:04 <Katie> mmm.... fresh picked peas. soon...
15:08:19 <LindaG> Daisy
15:08:22 <CraigC> Daisy
15:09:21 <CraigC> I like pizza more than any of these...... alas..
15:09:45 <Kevin L™🌵> For sure.
15:10:05 <Katie> I prefer asparagus & brussels sprouts to pizza - but not over steak. ;)
15:10:12 <LindaG> Do they make veggie pizza out there?
15:10:58 <Kevin L™🌵> Pizza needs pepperoni. It is a law.
15:11:24 <Ryan> ^^that, it doesnt even need cheese
15:11:28 <LindaG> I prefer sausage
15:12:28 <CraigC> I make pizza now with almond flour and mozzarella cheese, make my own tomato sauce and cover with veggies of choice and pepperoni or sausage and MUSHROOMS
15:12:58 <LindaG> Oh my you do meat healthy
15:13:12 <LindaG> *eat
15:16:14 <Dave from B™> I like broccoli but you can have asparagus, peas, brussel sprouts
15:16:21 <LindaG> CraigC, no gluten?
15:16:30 <Kevin L™🌵> Castle
15:16:53 <CraigC> LindaG, low carbs is the focus
15:16:53 <Dave from B™> Italian Sausage is my favorite pizza ingredient
15:17:17 <LindaG> That's the best dave
15:17:32 <Eric> I had roasted cauliflower, broccoli and asparagus last night with grilled chicken :-D Yummm
15:17:41 <LindaG> CraigC, I need to strive for that
15:17:54 <Eric> Trader Joe's Everything Bagel seasoning on it all for the win!
15:18:12 <CraigC> I found a beer, Miller64 that only has 2g of carbs
15:18:23 <Eric> That's NOT beer!
15:18:31 <CraigC> LOL
15:18:43 <LindaG> Speaking of food gotta eat dinner. Good night
15:18:49 <CraigC> it beats drinking water while watching tv
15:18:51 <Eric> Night Linda
15:18:51 <Kevin L™🌵> Knight
15:19:02 <Eric> If you say so Craig :-P
15:19:11 <Dave from B™> C'mon, CraigC...that's like drinking water!!
15:19:14 <Eric> Water is cheaper
15:19:34 <Dave from B™> I don't scrimp on my alcohol
15:19:51 <Eric> I love good beer, but I just stay away from it on weekdays and have a good beer with friends on the weekends.
15:20:05 <Dave from B™> Yep...that's what I've been doing this year
15:20:16 <Eric> Weekdays are for twigs and water
15:20:24 <Dave from B™> I actually like wine over beer unless it is HOT
15:20:46 <Eric> I love red wine, but it almost always makes my head hurt :-(
15:20:51 <CraigC> I made a goal, on my next 10 lbs, I'll have a night of popcorn and Polygamy Porter
15:21:01 <Eric> and the good stuff costs way too much.
15:21:11 <Dave from B™> on your next 10...how much have you lost Craig?
15:21:15 <CraigC> 10
15:21:32 <CraigC> sine Jan 1, not enough
15:21:35 <CraigC> since
15:21:39 <Dave from B™> congrats...I'm between 10 and 15 after the setback of the last week
15:22:04 <CraigC> I can easily do at least 10 a month once I am mtn biking
15:22:28 <Dave from B™> With the snow cover we have, I'm lucky to leave my house
15:23:23 <Dave from B™> Once the snow is gone we walk our dogs 2-4 miles almost every night
15:23:34 <CraigC> wow, good job
15:24:36 <Dave from B™> I would like to start biking
15:27:45 <CraigC> Dave from B™, get an e-bike, they are so much fun
15:27:50 <Kevin L™🌵> Time to feed chickens. brb
15:32:21 <Dave from B™> CraigC, tell me a little about them
15:33:31 <CraigC> they are pedal assist, with levels of assist, so you have to pedal to make them go. When I climb trails, I have it set on 2nd or 3rd of 4 levels, so the assist is about 50 to 60%, and now I can ride about 5 times as far
15:34:06 <Dave from B™> nice
15:34:38 <Dave from B™> So, do you have a screen in front of you so you can pretend where your going
15:35:11 <CraigC> what? I am riding for real, on trails
15:35:35 <Dave from B™> oh...I thought e-bike meant a stationary...my bad
15:35:41 <CraigC> LOL
15:36:15 <CraigC> mine is full suspension, with a Yamaha electric motor
15:36:34 <Dave from B™> haha. So, is it legal on all trails?
15:36:36 <CraigC> it's in one of the pics I posted yesterday
15:36:46 <CraigC> not all trails, some prohibit them
15:42:21 <ynpvisitor102> Don't tell anyone and keep peddling.
15:43:05 <ynpvisitor102> Or put your handicap parking sticker on it.
15:43:54 <Emily> hi
15:44:01 <ynpvisitor102> As old as Dave is, he may need a e-tricycle.
15:44:13 <CraigC> LOL
15:44:28 <Dave from B™> :P Time for me to help close the market. Have a great evening everyone...well, escept for 102!:D
15:44:40 <CraigC> ynpvisitor102, I may or may not have followed your first advice.... LOL
15:44:43 <Eric> Night Dave
15:44:47 <Eric> Hi Emily
15:44:54 <CraigC> cya Dave, have a good one
15:44:54 <Kevin L™🌵> Good Knight Dave
15:45:00 <Eric> I have to run too...need to finish packing for Vegas!
15:45:05 <Dave from B™> Craig justs calls it a bicycle to reduce ridicule
15:45:08 <CraigC> cya Eric
15:45:10 <Eric> Probably chat next week on my return.
15:45:32 <Dave from B™> Have fun Eric
15:45:34 <ynpvisitor102> Kevin, you recovered from the race?
15:45:47 <Kevin L™🌵> Have a good one Eric. I will look for you Saturday.
15:46:14 <Kevin L™🌵> Not totally 102. Still digging dirt out of my eyes.
15:53:15 <ynpvisitor102> Not that race, the one on Sunday. If it can be called a race?
15:53:32 <Kevin L™🌵> It was defective
15:54:02 <ynpvisitor102> From what little looking I did, e-bikes are not bikes, when it comes to bike paths or trail riding.
15:55:12 <ynpvisitor102> Enforcement depends on the person at the time.
15:55:43 <CraigC> what do you mean they are not bikes?
15:56:35 <ynpvisitor102> They are not considered peddle bikes, they are considered in a class as a motor vehicle.
15:56:59 <ynpvisitor102> Even though they are not classed as a motor vehicle, confused?
15:57:30 <CraigC> LOL
15:57:39 <CraigC> go ride one on a trail
15:57:43 <ynpvisitor102> They are also not classed as a personal assist device like a power scooter, or chair.
15:58:27 <Ryan> Riverside
15:58:51 <CraigC> I've been mtn biking religiously since '85, and the only difference is that this e-bike now helps me ride like I did 30 years younger and 50 lbs lighter
15:59:28 <CraigC> handling is pretty much the same in spite of it being 20 lbs heavier
16:00:36 <ynpvisitor102> I read the explanations and arguments. Seems like walkers do not like them cause the do not like bikes, and bikers do not like them, cause they think you are cheating.
16:01:29 <ynpvisitor102> It seem slike it comes down to who ever is in charge of the trail as to if they are allowed.
16:01:29 <CraigC> LOL, the haters are a small group of elitists, that fail to come up with an argument about people who shuttle or who ride chairlifts to the top for downhilling
16:02:07 <CraigC> everyone I meet on the actual trails stop me and ask me all about it
16:03:51 <ynpvisitor102> It is kind of like the cain laws in Oregon and Washington. Oregon is easy, if you are over 10k or towing you need chains when they say chains. In Washington I could never find out what the rules were for towing with a passenger vehicle, and I read everything they had linked on the road page.
16:05:25 <ynpvisitor102> As to the bikes, I think the problem is how to deal with all the different bike styles. Seems like there are 3main groups. The peddle assitst like you have, full electric bikes, and then bigger moped style bikes.
16:05:57 <ynpvisitor102> The full electric looklike a bike but you do not have to peddle.
16:06:54 <ynpvisitor102> Easier for agencies to just say no electric bikes then deal with all the different permutations.
16:07:20 <ynpvisitor102> Then there are the kids with electric scooters up to mini bike looking things.
16:08:16 <CraigC> I think over time they are going to ease up on the ebikes, as they find that the people riding e-bikes are not as dangerous and threatening as the people screaming for personal records racing down the hills plowing people over
16:09:02 <CraigC> seems like the kind of people that buy ebikes are more laid back and having an enjoyable time out in nature
16:09:08 <ynpvisitor102> Too bad, Kevin could go see F&M with a e-tricycle. He could even take all those grand kids in the big rear basket.
16:09:57 <ynpvisitor102> It is just easy to regulate trails by saying no motorized vehicles.
16:10:36 <CraigC> yeah, that is what they are doing now
16:10:47 <ynpvisitor102> That is why some places turn there backs on e-bikes, cause they are just bikes, at least the kind you ride.
16:11:41 <CraigC> today I stopped and checked my heart rate at the top of a climb, and it was 151.... that is proof I had to work hard still
16:12:11 <ynpvisitor102> Sure it was not that girl in the bike pants in front of you?
16:12:31 <CraigC> when I do my pushups and squats in the morning, I only get up to about 105
16:12:35 <CraigC> LOL
16:13:29 <Sam> Evening all
16:13:36 <ynpvisitor102> Well, I got to go cut wood for the big snow storm tonight. Enjoyed learning about e-bikes.
16:15:29 <CraigC> :)
16:16:30 <Sam - laptop> OF
18:11:29 <ynpvisitor62> Pretty early for Grand, but it looks ie to me.
18:11:49 <Ryan> daisy too
18:12:27 <Kevin L™🌵> That is a short interval
19:14:59 <Michael> OF
