Showing logs for date: 2020-08-11
04:56:19 <ynpvisitor105> Lion
05:22:01 <JarnoO> Castle?
05:22:26 <Ryan> Or a very large Gizmo
05:22:34 <JarnoO> :)
05:27:49 <Ryan> Interesting watching NOAA revise their rain totals
05:28:08 <KorbenC> They do that :)
05:28:27 <Ryan> It took a full 5 days to log the 2.2" downpour the cave got on August 6. I knew about it the day of because the landowner texted me about it.
05:28:56 <Ryan> Said his rain gage logged 2in in 2 hours. But NOAA didnt have anything over 0.6 inches until this morning.
05:28:58 <KorbenC> NOAA = Government agency, Government = Slow :D
05:29:24 <Ryan> Where do they get their first values from?
05:29:41 <KorbenC> They have an auto algorithm that give you the amount of rain from radar indications.
05:30:15 <KorbenC> They have measurement tools there that get the real data, but they dont go and collect it every day.
05:30:52 <Ryan> OK - same thing I am watching on https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=rlx&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no then
05:31:13 <KorbenC> So, you have a radar with colors, they go "hey, red was over that area for 5 minutes. Usually that means its 0.17 inches of rain per or thing" but then in person can show 0 or 2 inches bedcuase ground is variabl.e
05:31:14 <Ryan> Kind of scary then if I need accurate data through the week lol
05:31:39 <KorbenC> you will never get accurate data unless you put your own logger in there :)
05:32:12 <Ryan> It helps that the landowner texts me if anything wserious happens
05:32:18 <KorbenC> the problem is that radars are tilted.
05:32:25 <Ryan> I can also watch radar and just text him and ask how much that dropped
05:33:00 <KorbenC> So while the radar is always accurate, the problem is that right next to the radar it is 50ft above ground, while 50 miles it is 5K feet of the ground (not actually that height)
05:33:30 <Ryan> With several days of 0 to trace amounts now the cave is getting dry - which is nice.
05:33:51 <KorbenC> And that is the reason they have Spotters, becuase whats going on on the ground is alot different then whats going on a few thousand feet into the air/
05:34:31 <KorbenC> The disclaimer they should put in radars is "gives you a reading of whether or whether not rain occurred, ground conditions can vary"
05:34:33 <Ryan> cool deal.
05:34:46 <Ryan> Lets hope the derecho goes north and hits me instead of Greenbrier County.
05:34:52 <Ryan> I want to go caving!!!!
05:35:07 <KorbenC> If it does hit you though, should be fun (even though not severe)
05:35:21 <Ryan> oh its in ontario now
05:35:39 <KorbenC> not the frontal system
05:35:53 <KorbenC> (aka, 35 MPH dry winds)
05:36:16 <Ryan> oh, yeah
05:36:22 <KorbenC> Ryan, have you heard of CoCoRaHS?
05:36:24 <Ryan> The precip is what i am concerned about lol
05:36:28 <Ryan> no
05:36:45 <KorbenC> Community Collabortative Rain Hail and Snow Network...
05:37:03 <Ryan> Huh, no I haven't.
05:37:24 <KorbenC> people all over the country have stations that read all the stuff you want. Me included. Their stations update to the web with on the ground data.
05:37:32 <Ryan> Brb - I have.... to remove excess amounts of solids and liquids - is that how I am supposed to dat that here?
05:38:20 <JarnoO> Castle major
05:41:42 <KorbenC> CoCoRaHS is a very neat program, becuase people (like me) have stations uploading data to the internet, sadly as far as I know you cant get a table (I will ask because it is semi-new to me still) but it gives you a map of WV, and then the counties in west Virginia and then the loggers in WV will report X amount of precipitation each day. IDK if there is a logger in the location you want it
05:42:12 <KorbenC> but there is one on the corner of Union and Greenbrier (that might be the closest one to Lewisburg)
05:44:44 <KorbenC> I dont think that is all of them (as some people choose not to submit a data bit when it is 0.00 inches) so there is probably one in lewisburg but you would have to wait for a rainstorm I think.
05:50:03 <KorbenC> JarnoO, Atlantic invest 90/90
05:50:24 <KorbenC> Pacific 10/70, 30/70, and 0/40
05:51:34 <JarnoO> Atlantic was 70/70 not too long ago (or was it still 60/60 then?)
05:51:53 <KorbenC> it was 70/70 an hour or so ago.
05:52:08 <JarnoO> good. I didn't misremember it
05:55:04 <Ryan(away)> There is one in Alderson. The project is too short to warrant a full station :(
05:57:18 <Ryan(away)> The nice thing is that its only a 3mi² catchment basin
05:57:49 <Ryan(away)> Some other cave systems in the area have catchments on the other of 50-200mi² and figuring out how much rain it got is really hard
05:58:22 <Ryan(away)> This cave's saving grace is that we can determine pretty well what the cave got in terms of rain.
05:59:30 <Ryan(away)> one cave system just north of Lewisburg had a depth logger in a passage 30ft high that recorded an astounding 177ft of head on it during a flood event two years ago.
06:00:44 <Ryan(away)> THAT is horrifying to think of. This cave (Sinks of the Run) is a far more stable and safer system to manage water influxes with. The cave that recorded the 177ft flood pulse routinely experiences major floods - one wiped out a base camp in between trips. As much as I'd love to go see that part of the cave some day I dont know its worth the risk for me....
06:02:08 <ynpvisitor71> Does 3.5 hrs seem a little short from end of lion series to next ini?
06:02:42 <JarnoO> it's rare, but it has happened
06:03:00 <JarnoO> I've seen a few ±4h, too
06:04:02 <Ryan> KC, the week preceeding a SOTR trip is like a nail biter for me. This time of year the weather always just says 60-80% chance of T storms every day, Meaning about a 40% chance the cave gets hit.
06:04:17 <Ryan> If it gets hit afetr Thursday then I have a problem lol.
06:05:01 <Ryan> Why can't you people tell me if a red cell is going to hit a 3mi² target in the next five days during the middle of August while the climate is changing!? What good are you for!?
06:05:04 <Ryan> ;)
06:07:22 <JarnoO> huh... where's the water?
06:08:12 <Ryan> short?
06:08:22 <JarnoO> most definitely
06:08:48 <JarnoO> Arty ie
06:24:38 <JarnoO> Lion out of nowhere
06:25:50 <JarnoO> looks like it had a pause
06:26:17 <ynpvisitor84> right on time :)
06:35:04 <ynpvisitor90> Is grotto still ie from last night?
06:35:48 <JarnoO> need to check the overnights, #90
06:36:12 <JarnoO> once they're out you'll hear it
06:36:37 <ynpvisitor90> Joe you here?
06:38:15 <JarnoO> next Lion @ 0732±5m if series continues. 1m08s+2m42s=3m50s. Could go earlier, as it does seem paused eruptions have a tendency to have a shorter interval overall than their non-paused equivalents
06:38:38 <CraigC> I'll delete my gt note on grotto
06:39:19 <JarnoO> you could check on Variable Spring or Marathon Pool. If both or either of them are down, then it's a marathon
06:39:31 <ynpvisitor84> yes I am#90
06:39:52 <JarnoO> (and Variable has a tendency to go muddy during a marathon per the book)
06:40:23 <KorbenC> CraigC, do you have any F&M videos for us?
06:40:39 <ynpvisitor84> From what I could tell, poor lighting Grotto is still ie
06:40:46 <JarnoO> overnights are up :)
06:40:47 <KorbenC> ah, their on your FB page, nice :)
06:41:00 <CraigC> ynpvisitor84, I'm uploading video of fan and mortar, but i cant navigate well from my phone to atrach it to gt
06:42:04 <CraigC> The best bursts i observed was while i was talking on the phone with Joe;)
06:42:08 <ynpvisitor84> are you uploading to yt?
06:42:27 <CraigC> Uploading to youtube right now
06:42:49 <CraigC> 94%
06:43:17 <ynpvisitor84> ok when I see it, if you wish I'll attach it to GT
06:43:35 <CraigC> ynpvisitor84, please, and thank you
06:44:11 <KorbenC> Have a good day Craig! :)
06:44:32 <CraigC> Hopefully by tomorrow i can have the video i got yesterday of myr1 and the good mug
06:44:45 <CraigC> KorbenC, thanks
06:44:47 <JarnoO> the big MYR-1? :)
06:45:01 <CraigC> JarnoO, yes, it was nice
06:45:08 <JarnoO> nice!
06:45:16 <JarnoO> and Grotto is indeed in marathon
06:45:34 <CraigC> I havent had time to see how my footage turned out
06:46:14 <ynpvisitor84> CraigC, F&M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5yPZ8CcfEg
06:49:48 <ynpvisitor84> CraigC, Attached to the main and secondary
06:50:23 <CraigC> What's happening at aurum area
06:51:15 <CraigC> Nvm, steam is west of aurum.... beach?
06:51:23 <JarnoO> Doublet steaming it seems. Might also be GHG-16 ie
06:52:20 <JarnoO> Beach Spring is also possible, actually. The other day I saw some nice surging to boardwalk level
06:52:29 <CraigC> ynpvisitor84, thanks, Joe
06:53:31 <ynpvisitor84> CraigC, Btw nice video, thank you P:)
06:54:11 <CraigC> Pump!
06:54:57 <ynpvisitor84>
06:55:31 <CraigC> ynpvisitor84, keep the volume down so you dont hear me panting from the bike ride
06:56:01 <ynpvisitor84> the P:), result of fat finger keyboard
06:57:32 <JarnoO> for a few seconds there was a double steam plume at Ear
06:58:03 <ynpvisitor84> luckily the geyser sound muffled it all :)
06:59:45 <CraigC> ynpvisitor84, you got mail
07:00:02 <JarnoO> quite the sunbeams here on cam. OF is in the center of it
07:00:30 <CraigC> You can share those pics with jarno if he wants to see them
07:01:04 <CraigC> You should get on instagram
07:02:00 <ynpvisitor84> still waiting, thanks, it will get here soon
07:04:30 <ynpvisitor84> CraigC, I'm a hard head, this is my only social media besides YT and imgur
07:06:16 <CraigC> Ok, headed to riverside, laters :)
07:06:22 <JarnoO> cya Craig
07:09:10 <KorbenC> JarnoO, FYI, but Beach Spring has been known to surge to the height of the BW, when I was there it would fill, big boil (about the size of what you saw) then drop, and repeat.
07:11:22 <JarnoO> looks like OF stalled out
07:20:33 <JarnoO> OF at last
07:20:38 <ynpvisitor84> there it is
07:20:47 <Ryan> Just added 7mbee nusystem - some backlogged since March :(
07:21:36 <Ryan> Wow - 7 numbers to the BH alert system.
07:22:02 <JarnoO> are you alright there, Ryan? :)
07:22:17 <KorbenC> JarnoO, no, hes turning into me! ;)
07:24:01 <Ryan> This keyboard stops sending keys and then suddenly starts again.
07:24:15 <JarnoO> is it wireless?
07:25:48 <JarnoO> Lion approaching window
07:26:34 <ynpvisitor15> Depression looks steamy
07:26:45 <KorbenC> I was just about to say that
07:26:49 <KorbenC> looks ie.
07:27:14 <ynpvisitor15> KorbenC, oh no you werent
07:27:32 <ynpvisitor15> Lol
07:27:40 <KorbenC> I was litteraly typing it out :D
07:27:50 <Ryan> its wireless
07:27:57 <JarnoO> Looks more like the Dwarfs are steamy rather than Dep. Dep looks like passive steam
07:28:01 <KorbenC> but knowing me it would have came out depeersion is easmy :):D
07:28:01 <LindaG> 😄
07:28:08 <KorbenC> Hi Linda :) how did I know it was you :P
07:28:19 <LindaG> KorbenC, hi
07:28:50 <JarnoO> well, Ryan, there's your problem. Having said that, I've always preferred wired above wireless. Much more stable overall (generally, that is) and no risk of running out of batteries :)
07:29:12 <KorbenC> Dwarfs ie
07:29:33 <JarnoO> though then you do run the risk of having a wire that's too short :P
07:32:23 <KorbenC> can we zoom in on Dep?
07:33:25 <JarnoO> that was a good Lion roar there
07:44:52 <JarnoO> Riverside
07:49:33 <Ryan> I rejoined the geyser gazers facebook page and read all of the comments on Mark's post. Yikes.
07:50:22 <Ryan> The intolerance and lack of any attempt to understand others is astounding.
08:14:36 <JarnoO> I'm declaring Lion end of series
08:22:45 <ynpvisitor89> Daisy
08:23:32 <Eric> Morning
08:23:38 <JarnoO> morning Eric
08:23:48 <KorbenC> nice light on Daisy
08:24:19 <Eric> Hi Jarno
08:24:35 <JarnoO> Turban 0823
08:30:33 <Forestbewithyou> Morning all
08:30:44 <LindaG> Forestbewithyou🌲🌳☀, hi
08:31:03 <KorbenC> Forestbewithyou🌲🌳☀, hi
08:31:34 <JarnoO> morning Forest
08:33:15 <Eric> Hi Forest
08:34:22 <Eric> any action in the 3c or mugwump this morning?
08:34:50 <ynpvisitor26> quiet
08:45:56 <ynpvisitor113> Updated Sb numbers for you. We are now 2d23h17m ahead of the record 2019 pace
08:46:10 <ynpvisitor113> On pace for 51 eruptions this year
08:46:36 <Eric> Thanks 113
08:46:59 <Forestbewithyou> thats awesome 113
08:47:08 <KorbenC> Ryan, do you see something I dont, becuase the radar over lewisburg looks quite clear
08:47:15 <KorbenC> Thx Dave??
08:47:23 <ynpvisitor113> yw, KC
08:47:54 <ynpvisitor113> So, now if a D shows up, Ryan can blame me
08:48:13 <ynpvisitor42> shhhhh
08:48:24 <JarnoO> Turban 0841
08:49:10 <Ryan(-023)> Just watching the incoming front is all
08:49:23 <Ryan(-023)> I dont even like trace amounts - I want the ground to be dry dry dry
08:50:24 <KorbenC> Ryan(-023), there is a H pressure system coming in, but its still a ways away. I see 4 tiny cells which are weakening, so IDK what you are concerneced about :D
08:50:52 <Ryan(-023)> IDK either which is the problem
08:51:01 <Ryan(-023)> We still dont know what is good, bad, or not.
08:51:25 <Ryan(-023)> Saturday looks crappy "Showers likely"
08:51:45 <Ryan(-023)> Hopefully its just lazy showers and not isolated thunderstorms
08:51:52 <Ryan(-023)> One is fine, the other not so much
08:52:50 <Ryan(-023)> So why do they use only one radar for the rainfall estimates?
08:53:12 <Ryan(-023)> Why not use the one from Charleston, Clarksburg, Blacksburg, etc.
08:53:18 <Ryan(-023)> And have a compiled image.
08:54:23 <Ryan(-023)> Seems to me like that fixes some of your tilting problems
08:54:33 <KorbenC> again, its the problem of different altituded
08:54:34 <KorbenC> s
08:55:04 <KorbenC> radars are at a tilt, so you arent getting the ground reading at 500FT, you get one at 5K, one at 11K, one at 14K (not the exact numbers)
08:55:08 <Ryan(-023)> Wouldnt multiple radar planes at different altitudes help make a better image?
08:55:41 <KorbenC> Ryan, they have multiple radars :) (NOAA really only uses one though) beucase it has multiple tilts
08:56:33 <Eric> So why does YNP let these really loud obnoxious motorcycles into the park during the summer, but they require strict, quiet snowmobiles in the winter?
08:56:38 <Ryan(-023)> So I guess I dont fully understand why the huge descrpancy in rainfall estimates then - at least if it has to do with radar elevation issues.
08:56:49 <KorbenC> so they use Charleston for that area because #1 that is a fancy radar, #2 they have different tilts and its dual polarized. #3 it makes it alot easier for the public to understand
08:57:25 <ynpvisitor33> Hey weather guys, nice derecho yesterday over the Midwest
08:57:32 <KorbenC> Ryan, the difference between 1ft off hte gorund, and 100ft of the ground, and 1 thousand feet of the ground is alot different, they dont tilt it down (they have to cover the full area with the tilt)
08:57:44 <Forestbewithyou> Went just south of me 33
08:58:08 <ynpvisitor33> Where are you Forest?
08:58:11 <Eric> Glad it didn't hit you Forest
08:58:12 <Forestbewithyou> although I did have a tornado warning somewhat close to my house
08:58:12 <Ryan(-023)> Eric, I think summer and winter environments are different
08:58:13 <Forestbewithyou> wisconsin
08:58:24 <KorbenC> if they tilt it flat it will get interupted, if they tilt it down it will hit the ground and send back really crazy signals, so they tilt it slightly up that way they can get the entire area, just not necessarily at the exact same altitude.
08:59:02 <Ryan(-023)> I guess I dont understand then why they only use one. To me, more accurate radar images would be better for the public, no?
08:59:03 <Eric> They are, but the reason they limit snowmobiles is to keep the park quiet. Seems like excluding really loud vehicles 365 days a year would be a good idea!
08:59:18 <ynpvisitor9> It’s a double standard for sure, about motorcycles.
08:59:31 <Ryan(-023)> I think the winter enviornments and animal activities are more sensitive to noise.
08:59:56 <Eric> I guess it would be super difficult to enforce...but I would love to see a ban on really loud motorcycles in the park somehow.
09:00:09 <Ryan(-023)> I mean, ill be the first to agree either way. I hate motorcycles.
09:00:19 <ynpvisitor9> The reason they changed snowmobiled away from two strokes (loud) was because of emissions
09:00:22 <Katie (v2)> Any burn of energy in winter has a bigger impact, when every calorie is precious.
09:00:22 <Eric> OF
09:00:28 <ynpvisitor25> Add me to that list.
09:00:37 <ynpvisitor33> I went to college in Wisconsin, Forest -- Lawrence in Appleton. This is Jimbo, BTW.
09:00:37 <ynpvisitor9> Nothing to do with noise
09:00:40 <KorbenC> Ryan(-023), better data sure, more complex data very much so :) If you have 4 radars at different tilts you will ahve to set an average height for each area and then adjust for that on each radar each storm, and then tilt each radar to match that again until you get close, then you have this weird warped feild instead of a nice flat slightly angled plane, and while I could interpret that data.
09:00:56 <KorbenC> It is not easy for someone else too, like per say Bob the gas station attendant :D
09:01:03 <KorbenC> Hey Jimbo, it was fun to watch on radar :)
09:01:07 <Eric> Not according to their own rules 9 - https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/management/winter-use-management.htm
09:01:11 <Katie (v2)> And, as 9 said - the emissions factor was the biggie. But the 4 stroke motors ARE far less noisy.
09:01:17 <Forestbewithyou> Nice Jimbo
09:01:22 <ynpvisitor9> That was an added bonus, getting rid of noisier snowmobiles
09:01:32 <Ryan(-023)> I find motorcycles to be dangerous, obnoxious, and a source of noise pollution.
09:01:47 <Larsenic> I was watching the lightning when it was over Chicago, Korben
09:01:54 <Eric> Not all of them are like that Ryan...but yes, probably a majority.
09:01:59 <Ryan(-023)> I actively detest them. I have never had a good interaction with a motorcyclist on the road.
09:02:01 <KorbenC> Live storm chasing was fun too :D
09:02:06 <Katie (v2)> I find any diesel engine to be so.
09:02:23 <Ryan(-023)> Diesel engines at least can have a purpose (heavy load hauling)
09:02:29 <Eric> Well filtered diesel engines can be quiet and pretty much stink free.
09:02:34 <Ryan(-023)> Motorcycles are just playthings essentially.
09:02:51 <Grand Larsenic> There, that's better
09:03:02 <Eric> Nice
09:03:03 <Katie (v2)> I'm okay with playthings - to a point.
09:03:04 <Ryan(-023)> They serve zero functions that your standard automobiles cant do for you.
09:03:07 <KorbenC> Ryan, for example, take a teniss ball and tape a peice of cardboard at a very slight angle, it looks nice and smooth, however given that other radars are different tilts and specs now crumple up your cardboard and 2 other peices of cardboard and put them on top of eachother, thats you multiradar signal.
09:03:16 <KorbenC> And they do use multiple radars, they just dont show it :)
09:03:50 <JarnoO> morning Jimbo. Might want to stay away from humans if you don't want to poison them :)
09:03:54 <Eric> I hate when you can hear a group of motorcycles miles away in the park...that is just not appropriate in our parks.
09:03:56 <Katie (v2)> They are fun, whereas standard vehicles are not. I don't undervalue fun. But the obnoxious pipes are just that - obnoxious.
09:04:21 <Ryan(-023)> We have localities here which hold motorcycle events. It clogs the roads, causes really bad accidents, and makes driving a nail biter.
09:04:25 <KorbenC> also Ryan (the reason I like Radarscope and RadarOmega) is that you can scroll around and change your radar, as well as have multiple radars on the same screen :)
09:04:30 <JarnoO> Turban 0859
09:04:40 <Ryan(-023)> All it took was one motorcycle zipping between me and another car in the other lane for me to hate them.
09:05:11 <Eric> hopefully grand on the next cycles...coming up on 7h
09:05:35 <Ryan(-023)> Dangerous, foolish, and stupid. And dont even get me started on the masses of cyclists taking up both lanes of a highway and going 5 or 10 under the speed limit for miles.
09:06:17 <ynpvisitor9> OK we won’t get you started!
09:06:23 <Ryan(-023)> I think they should be banned, and I actively judge people who own them.
09:06:29 <Katie (v2)> gotta share the world with people who have different likes and dislikes
09:07:04 <Ryan(-023)> Just like cigarette smoke is an invasion of my personal space I find the loud pipes, and zipping crotch rockets to be an invasion of my space.
09:07:44 <Ryan(-023)> We have banned cigarettes in most public spaces. I do not wish to share the road with motorcyclists. I have never had any good interaction with them anywhere, ever.
09:07:52 <Eric> I just don't want the noise....if someone did the same thing to their suburban...I wouldn't want them in the park either.
09:08:31 <Ryan(-023)> I find noise (and light) pollution to eb one of the worst things we have ever done as human beings.
09:08:46 <Eric> is it generally 20m between the last turban and grand right now or less?
09:08:55 <Ryan(-023)> I agree - anything thats modified to be louder than it normally would be is obnoxious.
09:09:01 <ynpvisitor42> speaking of which, look at the west gate
09:09:08 <JarnoO> ±20m is the historical average, Eric
09:09:10 <Ryan(-023)> Motorcycles in particular have several other things about them that I just hate.
09:09:42 <Eric> yes, I know the historical average :-D but usually that last interval trends up and down a few minutes in a local range.
09:10:07 <JarnoO> could be that it varies season to season
09:11:07 <ynpvisitor9> Well thousands love motorcycles and many have ones that are clean and quiet
09:12:19 <Eric> Yep, and I have no problem with clean and quiet vehicle of any kind in the park!
09:14:31 <Eric> But it would be cool if only silent electric vehicles where allowed in the park!
09:14:42 <ynpvisitor9> I would love if they had a way to ban the loud ones
09:14:52 <Eric> could provide a whole new revenue stream for the surrounding communities :-P
09:15:21 <Eric> bulger ie
09:15:37 <ynpvisitor9> Funny Eric. Charging stations for miles and miles
09:15:41 <Eric> grand
09:15:55 <Eric> nice start
09:16:23 <Eric> about 16m from the turban to what I assume was a grand start
09:16:39 <Katie (v2)> Just playing Devil's Advocate, but why are gas stations for miles and miles acceptable but charging stations wouldn't be?
09:17:06 <JarnoO> exactly my thinking, Katie
09:17:13 <Eric> charging takes a lot longer compared to gas stations...so you would need a lot more of them Katie
09:17:37 <JarnoO> fast loaders can charge a car within about 30 minutes or so
09:17:42 <Eric> Not like the communities are short on space :-P
09:17:58 <JarnoO> indeed longer than gas, but not hours upon hours
09:18:02 <Eric> I can refuel at a gas station in under 5m Jarno
09:18:43 <Eric> multiply that extra time it takes times the thousands of people who refuel in these communities and you would need a lot more chargers.
09:20:33 <Eric> But the park could add large charging grids if they put in big solar farms. I don't think they would have the capacity the main locations otherwise. That whole problem could get ugly quickly.
09:22:11 <Eric> Anyway...I do like the idea of electric cars only in the park :-D
09:22:13 <Eric> OT
09:23:30 <ynpvisitor67> Electric cars are not really green
09:26:41 <ynpvisitor8> mug?
09:27:34 <ynpvisitor117> 3c
09:27:45 <JarnoO> Mug
09:27:46 <Eric> mug
09:27:48 <Eric> nice
09:28:18 <Eric> 67, I never mentioned anything about green, but they are super quiet and don't put out emissions like other vehicles.
09:28:22 <LindaG> 🙂👍
09:29:01 <LindaG> That's the first mug I've seen in a while
09:29:35 <Eric> I  that we can see this area from the new camera position!

10:00:43 <JarnoO> morning Kevin
10:00:46 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Just in time for Perry Mason music.
10:12:28 <Ryan(-23)> the snake ended its hunger strike last night
10:12:57 <SantaFe108 mobi> what kind of snake
10:14:09 <Ryan(-23)> young ball python
10:14:37 <Ryan(-23)> I have a ball python which is maddeningly finicky when eating - and a corn snake thats a vacuum cleaner....
10:15:42 <SantaFe108 mobi> typical ball python lol
10:16:59 <Ryan(-23)> Yeah this one seemed to have issues getting it. After a couple weeks of not being interested it started getting obviously hungry. Twice it bit me while I reached in the tank - but never actually struck me. I thought it was just a fake bite, but then it began doing it to the mice, too. Finally yesterday it got it and ate it. But it missed the first time again.
10:17:24 <Ryan(-23)> Not sure what its issue was.
10:19:39 <SantaFe108 mobi> Im glad my bp never had eating issues
10:19:55 <SantaFe108 mobi> especially when it's common
10:21:00 <Ryan(-23)> I love my little ball python. She's a doll and has a personality. I think she is skiddish. She's pooped while being handled three times now. In her old location in my bedroom she used to recoil and ball up when I opened the door.
10:21:46 <Ryan(-23)> I moved her tank to the living room in a quieter area. Not that my bedroom is loud - I have an AC unit in the window that I wonder if it causes noises or vibrations that she did not like. She calmed down rapidly once the tank was in the living room and began striking again.
10:22:15 <Ryan(-23)> After 4 wks, and three meals, she should be getting close to shedding. Shes barely 200g....
10:23:46 <Ryan(-23)> The corn snake is hysterical. I got it for basically free as a newborn because it would not feed and they felt it would die. It ate for me the night I took it home. Now it eats 4 pinkies in one go, I am just depelting my stock before bringing her up a size. Where as at first eating was a process to get her to gradually open up and take the mouse, now its a game and she seems to love striking
10:24:19 <Ryan(-23)> and fighting for it - I use the tongs and wrestle it around a little bit. Once she coiled her body around her log and pulled so hard she almost ripped the mouse in half...
10:25:13 <Ryan(-23)> Shes grown from the size of a pencil, to being about 18 inches long now and a half inch in girth. She will be a 6+ft snake soon.
10:25:35 <JarnoO> Daisy
10:26:09 <ynpvisitor> Maybe your BP is enlightened, and a vegan!
10:26:40 <Ryan(-23)> my finger is not a veggie

10:58:57 <Eric> hopefully just the chat! http://chat.geysertimes.org/chat.php
10:59:27 <KorbenC> In the UGB I neverh ad any problem loading the chat, but loading the chat with the wc, that is a big nono :)
10:59:29 <Eric> Actually, mobile chat is way better - https://chat.geysertimes.org/mchat.php

11:16:36 <KorbenC> do you know if water is back at F&M?
11:16:53 <Ryan(-23)> Water would be back in a few hours
11:25:08 <JarnoO> splash
11:27:33 <ynpvisitor10> Another no go
11:34:23 <KorbenC> JarnoO, I got this OF
11:39:35 <Eric> I think you would start checking on F&M in a couple days Coop
11:39:56 <KorbenC> Eric, I know, I was just wondering if water was even back .
11:40:11 <Eric> if it gets in cycle 3-7 days seems pretty typical
11:42:33 <Ryan(-23)> Water comes back within a day. The first event cycles following water return are really good in energy and coordination but obviously can not initiate an eruption.
11:43:24 <Ryan(-23)> Your first shots come around day 2.2-2.5 and realistically around day 4.
11:43:46 <Ryan(-23)> But, if you just want to see water in the system, you can see that within 12 hours, or less, following a major eruption.
11:50:13 <Ryan(-23)> Shorttest interval in recent history was just under 3 days in 2014.
11:51:08 <Ryan(-23)> It kind of shocked all of us because it had come out of a winter dormancy just a few weeks earlier. It pulled a couple 5 day intervals, then we saw a daylight one in late June, and then BAM it pulled a sub 3 day interval which we saw start from Grand.
11:51:25 <Ryan(-23)> Then, in true rockpile style, it pulled a nearly 11 day interval after that!
11:51:53 <Ryan(-23)> seems like it takes some time to get into a good groove... :-/
11:52:48 <JarnoO> one curious Pink Cone entry... 0547 ? ns wc ini min
11:52:59 <Ryan(-23)> Second very strange entry on GT in two days. New people signing up and entering with no clue of what they are entering
11:53:00 <Forestbewithyou> hmm
11:53:12 <Forestbewithyou> Wow I didn't know we could see pink cone from here :)
11:53:22 <JarnoO> that'd be special :)
11:53:23 <KorbenC> Its gone :)
11:53:24 <Ryan(-23)> Not even Pink Cone - just Pink Geyser lol
11:53:38 <JarnoO> oh, misread it
11:53:39 <Forestbewithyou> oh
11:53:48 <JarnoO> still recovering from 86°F in my room
11:54:41 <JarnoO> Atlantic 90/90, no other new information regarding the other systems
11:55:07 <Eric> two pink geyser eruptions reported yesterday by Lynn, BTW
11:55:31 <Eric> sorry, one by lynn, one by jsj
11:55:33 <Eric> OF
11:57:18 <Ryan(-23)> https://geysertimes.org/eruption.php?id=703420
11:58:00 <Ryan(-23)> Trips down memory lane: "much needed sleep" I dont think Will and I slept in the three days leading up to that. I had the last week of my time in the park off and he and I took a lot of night shifts at the rock pile.
11:58:14 <JarnoO> Ryan, August through September 1992 were a very good period for F&M, on the verge of being predictable with most intervals ranging between 2d12h and 3d00h :)
11:58:36 <Ryan(-23)> When I say "modern" I meant the 2010s.
11:59:27 <KorbenC> Ryan(-23), I still love that video :)
11:59:44 <Ryan(-23)> The one of all the sputs tackle jumping and screaming at the start?
12:00:24 <KorbenC> Ryan(-23), no the "Ryan thinks its a lock" :D
12:00:37 <Ryan(-23)> That was a fun eruption. I have never seen a geyser throw that many rocks out of its vent besides SB. And even then I am not sure how much of that is from the vent or from the hillside.
12:00:54 <Ryan(-23)> These were bonafide chunks of virgin sinter.
12:01:10 <JarnoO> Eastern Pacific 40/70 (1), 20/80 (2), 0/40 (3); Central Pacific 40/70 (Eastern Pacific 1)
12:01:57 <Eric> virgin sinter?
12:08:37 <Ryan(-23)> Yeah bright white stuff from the guts of F&M never exposed to the surface before
12:09:15 <JarnoO> Grotto chugging along
12:09:23 <Ryan(-23)> Bright, fresh, opalescent sinter chunks the size of my fist. Several were blasted from Main vent during the eruption.
12:09:58 <Ryan(-23)> I dont know how much of the crap from SB actually comes from in the vent. I can say without a doubt that this was the most I had ever seen come from a geyser before SB.
12:10:43 <Ryan(-23)> https://www.flickr.com/photos/131878030@N04/33022049242/in/photolist-Sucew5-Sj3CLA-Suceq3-RY6S37-SuceaU-RY6RMY-Suce1q-SuceCs-Rgcd8s-Rgcdcq-SucePQ-RiQzFF-Sucf7y virgin sinter
12:11:15 <JarnoO> pretty
12:11:28 <Forestbewithyou> Awesome
12:11:56 <Ryan(-23)> The boardwalk and gravel path over to the bathroom was peppered with smaller pieces. I have one from the edge of the trail about the size of my pinky that landed 130 some odd feet from Main Vent.
12:12:06 <Forestbewithyou> nice

12:13:24 <Forestbewithyou> that is a really nice photo!
12:13:48 <Ryan(-23)> Thanks! I put the sun in that position myself :)
12:13:54 <Eric> Thanks Ryan
12:14:10 <Forestbewithyou> LOL
12:14:31 <JarnoO> the crap from SB might be from a sinter-oversaturated solution, which precipitates out as the water cools down during ascend and descend. Belowground it can be kept in solution as it's much hotter down there and thus water can usually dissolve more
12:15:16 <Eric> I think SB ejections are predominately wash from uphill.
12:15:24 <Ryan(-23)> I meant the big stuff, JO

12:17:10 <JarnoO> ah, the rocks and all. Well, like Eric said, mostly from the surface. Otherwise it had likely torn its plumbing to shreds. Unless it can repair those gaps the rocks leave behind really fast. Though then I would think it would've sealed itself many years ago

12:19:24 <Ryan(-23)> Is there a statute of limitations of evidence of being in the River Group?
12:19:41 <Ryan(-23)> What if it wasn't illegal when you were there?
12:21:41 <JarnoO> I think you'd be fine sharing if you've made them before closure. Not sure how heavy photos count as primary evidence, though

12:22:40 <Ryan(-23)> One of those vents is the Vertically Gifted Mudpot. In August of that year we saw it throwing mud to 30-40ft. Rather violently, too.

12:27:18 <JarnoO> the things you see from the sky
12:27:32 <Ryan(-23)> You can see how in higher winds SB's spray drenches the parking lot. I think a typical major eruption would fill up most of the image.
12:28:05 <Ryan(-23)> We made a deal with the pilot to fill up for several hours worth of flying. If SB was in eruption we were willing to spend whatever money we needed to circle for as long as we could.
12:28:56 <Ryan(-23)> https://www.flickr.com/photos/131878030@N04/49008433743/in/album-72157677353161924/ and who says SB can't be impressive without a major eruption? :P
12:29:40 <JarnoO> a geyser on SB's minor play scale would be a nice attraction in every basin :)
12:30:12 <Ryan(-23)> Pretty sure the average SB minor is larger, and may put out more water, than Aurum
12:30:54 <Ryan(-23)> https://www.flickr.com/photos/131878030@N04/19863154604/in/album-72157677353161924/ My favorite conditions for a stroll around Porcelain. Give me a rain jacket and a cup of hot tea. No people, quiet, and everything is muted and pastel.
12:31:11 <Eric> gonna have a clear view of SB from the parking lot soon!

12:36:39 <Ryan(-23)> SB = next GF
12:36:48 <Ryan(-23)> complete with the car soaking
12:36:55 <KorbenC> hahahaha.
12:37:28 <KorbenC> someoen could open up a shop "well paint your car white for free, just wait here for a really long time" :)
12:38:02 <Ryan(-23)> friend of mine in 2018 had to have his windsheild replaced
12:38:28 <KorbenC> wow
12:38:33 <Ryan(-23)> He texted me asking about the possibility of an eruption. My response: "Its in a disturbance I wouldn't expect anything" - annnnnd it erupted in a stiff SW wind.
12:38:43 <Ryan(-23)> RIP. Brand new black truck.
12:39:01 <Ryan(-23)> The silver lining was that he was standaing at the middle deck for the start lol
12:39:02 <KorbenC> it loves to do that :)
12:40:31 <Ryan(-23)> My parents were really concerned. So my phone is waterproof and I am in the shower and my phone dings - its a text from Tara "Hey SB Erupted today, your friend was there." Me: "Who, Will?" Tara: "No, some caver from Georgia?"
12:40:50 <Ryan(-23)> And then I started hysterically laughing and shouting in the shower and my parents were breifly highly concerned.
12:41:00 <KorbenC> lol :)

12:44:17 <Ryan(-23)> Though neither were ie at that time
12:44:22 <KorbenC> Hi Betty
12:44:22 <Betty> hi all
12:44:30 <JarnoO> evening Betty
12:44:50 <Betty> hi Ryan, KorbenC, JarnoO
12:45:16 <Ryan(-23)> Alan: "Yeah I was just waiting there and a minor eruption started. Then it didnt stop, then someone started screaming. Then it looked like this:"
12:45:27 <Ryan(-23)> https://www.flickr.com/photos/alan_cressler/43488758884/in/album-72157700415965435/
12:45:36 <Ryan(-23)> Me: "Uhh, yeah thats not a minor anymore..."
12:45:44 <KorbenC> Ryan(-23), that happens :D
12:45:59 <JarnoO> might be medium at that point :P
12:46:53 <Ryan(-23)> His only comment later was that he was expecting to be annoyed because all of the videos he saw had all that screaming in the background, but in real life the thing is so loud you dont really hear everyone else. So he was "pleasantly surprised".
12:47:17 <Eric> almost definitely fountain Ryan
12:47:28 <KorbenC> Cam down
12:47:54 <Eric> Just did the maps trajectory and it lines up perfectly
12:47:58 <Betty> it wasn´t me!
12:47:59 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I knew I shouldn't have tried that Lone Star preset
12:48:05 <Betty> hi Eric
12:48:09 <Eric> Hi Betty
12:48:16 <Betty> hi Kevin L™ 🌵
12:48:17 <KorbenC> Betty, thats was someone who broke it would say :)
12:48:30 <Betty> :-D
12:48:42 <Betty> I learned from Dave
12:48:49 <KorbenC> hahaha
12:57:58 <Eric> Kevin crash the cam into a rock?
12:58:19 <Betty> huh
13:07:14 <Eric> woohoo and back
13:07:46 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Betty
13:08:13 <Betty> hi Forestbewithyou🌲🌳☀
13:12:25 <JarnoO> beginning to look quite gnarly outside. Almost a dark gray sky with a yellow tinge
13:12:34 <JarnoO> and quite the wind gusts
13:13:48 <JarnoO> on the plus side - the rain should cool down the house. Hopefully in the order of not having to experience a heat hammer when I step out of my room
13:16:01 <ynpvisitor84> OK, be that way :)
13:18:26 <Eric> try refreshing Betty
13:22:06 <KorbenC> I am going to head for an hour :)
13:22:14 <JarnoO> cya Korben
13:22:15 <KorbenC> save Bee for me :D
13:30:49 <Eric> OF ie
13:31:16 <Eric> apparently Betty is really trying to quit
13:37:12 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Linda
13:37:28 <LindaG> Forestbewithyou🌲🌳☀, hi
13:40:03 <Eric> lion looks ready
13:40:12 <Eric> WElcome back X
13:40:18 <Eric> aka Betty
13:40:24 <Betty> grrrrr
13:40:29 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Oh oh, here goes the cam again.
13:40:35 <Eric> haha
13:41:09 <Betty> all I get is that %§X$$& spinning circle
13:41:28 <Betty> bah, Kevin :-p
13:42:04 <Eric> did you enable flash?
13:42:15 <Kevin L™ 🌵> The cam is working now.
13:42:19 <Betty> yes
13:42:27 <Eric> Yep, OF Webcam is UP
13:42:35 <Eric> LC
13:42:41 <Betty> only frames now
13:42:54 <Eric> Cable broken to Germany?
13:43:09 <Betty> must be :-(
13:46:18 <Betty> maybe I should pay my bills
13:46:35 <Forestbewithyou> that might be a good idea :)
13:46:44 <Betty> hehehe
13:47:29 <lori lurking Je> afternoon all.
13:47:41 <Betty> here goes the circle again
13:47:51 <Eric> Hi LLJM
13:47:55 <Betty> hi lori lurking Jenna's mom :-)
13:48:02 <JarnoO> afternoon Lori
13:48:17 <Betty> how´s Jenna and the kids doing?
13:48:43 <Betty> she has not been on for a long time
13:49:07 <lori lurking Je> They are good! We avoided the damage from the derecho storm yesterday, thanksfully!
13:49:26 <Forestbewithyou> that is really good! I did as well
13:49:26 <Betty> glad to hear that
13:49:43 <lori lurking Je> She has a different job, not as much free time as she had before while "working" lol
13:50:10 <Betty> darn work ;-)
13:50:26 <lori lurking Je> yep, she misses the chat and the viewing!
13:50:46 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Those storms are ugly. I hear one blew a train off the rails in Oklahoma today.
13:51:00 <JarnoO> Lion ini
13:51:12 <JarnoO> aurum
13:51:12 <JarnoO> .
13:51:13 <KorbenC> I came back at the right time!
13:51:13 <JarnoO> .
13:51:13 <KorbenC> .
13:51:14 <KorbenC> .
13:51:14 <JarnoO> .
13:51:14 <KorbenC> .
13:51:16 <KorbenC> WOW
13:51:16 <Kevin L™ 🌵> And Aurum
13:51:35 <KorbenC> I go for a walk and come back to a dual/concert, nice!
13:51:35 <Forestbewithyou> Yes you did Korben
13:51:36 <Betty> need a view! NOW!!!!!
13:51:38 <JarnoO> Kevin is one lucky man :)
13:51:49 <lori lurking Je> Holy Cow! Iowa had a lot of damage, will take days to clean up and get power back in some places, fields flattened, grain bins smashes, semi's blown over.
13:51:53 <JarnoO> I'll get the video once Lion's done
13:52:02 <Eric> nice dual
13:52:06 <Eric> lion aurum!
13:52:10 <Forestbewithyou> Yea Iowa did. I have a feeling Illinois did as well
13:52:12 <Betty> nice, it´s moving
13:52:34 <Eric> Yes, my daughters college is apparently still without power in Grinnell!
13:53:15 <Grand Larsenic> I would think so, Eric.
13:53:39 <Eric> They are cleaning up downed trees and damage in town today
13:53:57 <Eric> Didn't realize the storm hit there yesterday
13:55:12 <lori lurking Je> We only had some wind here, power out all afternoon, but other than a few sticks, nothing down in the yard or really damaged. Soybeans a bit lower, but they should pop back up.
13:56:09 <Kevin L™ 🌵> When is harvest?
13:57:01 <lori lurking Je> later September, into October probably. We had a pretty good planting this spring, and fortunate that rains have come along.
13:57:36 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Hope it works out well.
13:57:44 <lori lurking Je> But, never know when hurricane force winds will wipe that all out in an afternoon. We were lucky!
13:57:51 <lori lurking Je> The corn is really tall!
13:58:32 <Kevin L™ 🌵> My daughter tried growing tomatoes this year and has has all kinds of issues. She really appreciates farmers more now.
13:59:16 <Eric> My parents corn is tall on the Left coast too!
13:59:23 <Eric> good corn year
13:59:36 <KorbenC> 9 years ago (5 years old) I saw my first Beehive, I looked back through the picture and found it data 8/11/2011. :D
13:59:45 <lori lurking Je> Too wet, too dry, grow too fast and split, bugs, tomato worms, They are not easy! I just get mine from the brother-in-laws plants and he does all the work! I have 3 beauties on the counter right now! Does anyone regularly stay in the Snow Lodge Frontier cabins?
13:59:46 <Eric> good fig year too...holy cow the figs are so awesome!
13:59:57 <Forestbewithyou> if only it was 11/11/11 at 11:11
14:00:14 <KorbenC> haha :)
14:00:23 <Eric> Happy B day Coop
14:00:28 <lori lurking Je> Seems to be a good crop year lots of places then. Who would of thought the way 2020 is going.
14:00:43 <KorbenC> here was my 1st Bee, https://geysertimes.org/eruption.php?id=7069
14:00:52 <KorbenC> Eric, :P :D
14:01:01 <lori lurking Je> Grandsons birthday is 1/11/11
14:01:09 <Forestbewithyou> Nice
14:01:20 <Eric> wow...that is a good birthday :-D
14:01:36 <KorbenC> lori lurking Jenna's mom, nice, and Hi :)
14:02:03 <lori lurking Je> we tried to make Jenna wait until 11:11 after she missed 1:11 a.m., but she didn't agree.
14:03:50 <lori lurking Je> Korben, what cabin were you in? Wondering if I should request the same one for our next trip or take a chance on wherever they put us. we were on the end in 700, closest to the gas station.
14:04:11 <KorbenC> we were in 08, I forget the 1st number :)
14:04:22 <KorbenC> The middle one that his flipped the other way than the other ones
14:04:27 <KorbenC> so 708 :)
14:05:14 <lori lurking Je> ah, ok. my only dislike was the shower, but I am thinking they are all a bit old and rickety. We liked the space and being on the end for parking.
14:05:27 <KorbenC> 708 was nice, close to the gas station but still far away, semi-isolated, and close to the basin.
14:05:38 <KorbenC> We had plenty of parking and the room was really nice.
14:06:12 <lori lurking Je> only two units, so one neighbor wall, correct?
14:06:25 <KorbenC> yes.
14:07:03 <JarnoO> next Lion @ 1509±5m if series continues. 6m56s
14:07:12 <lori lurking Je> did you ever cook at the picnic area? We never used the stove that trip.
14:07:20 <KorbenC> We were in the fronteir cabins, not western. Our neighbors were realling nice people, they were a quiet familly and we kept seeing them everywhere in the basin, so that was really nice, but I would not be saying the same if it was some rowdy college kid :)
14:07:49 <KorbenC> We cooked at the picnic area, and next to the car near hams hole (aka that parking lot)
14:08:16 <KorbenC> we also brought a kettle and everymornign we would have some super quick instant oatmeal.
14:18:34 <lori lurking Je> We did the electric kettle. Idahoan loaded mashed potatoes. Put a foil bag of buffalo chicken in a cup of boiling water to heat, added bacon bits and shredded cheese. It was really good!
14:18:52 <KorbenC> sounds good :)
14:19:11 <lori lurking Je> Like real food, lol.
14:21:10 <KorbenC> lol
14:24:08 <KorbenC> :daisy:
14:46:35 <ynpvisitor40> Fyi, note entered re fan and mortar
14:47:44 <Betty> hi Craig
14:47:46 <JarnoO> 9m bottom vent eruption and much splashing. Sounds good
14:48:22 <ynpvisitor40> Hey Betty
14:49:17 <JarnoO> I wonder what will characterize this F&M active phase
14:50:14 <KorbenC> splashing in main vent, to me that soundsl ike one of those event cycles right after it comes back
14:50:14 <ynpvisitor40> I'll check it a lot, but I'll need lots of guidance to interpret what i see
14:50:29 <JarnoO> Grotto past 18h. GO OBLONG!
14:50:38 <KorbenC> ynpvisitor40, ask Ryan, lol :D
14:50:39 <JarnoO> well... it needs a few hours more though
14:50:57 <KorbenC> All I know is the vents and how the cycles are supposed to work :)
14:51:15 <ynpvisitor40> I dont have that much patience
14:51:22 <KorbenC> JarnoO, water can easily be back at this time :) I dont see why it couldnt have an event cycle :P
14:51:32 <KorbenC> 40, then what are you gonna do with the hour+ long event cycles?
14:51:55 <JarnoO> that few hours refers to Grotto's marathon and when there's an opportunity for Oblong
14:52:01 <ynpvisitor40> You misread my comment
14:52:21 <KorbenC> Oh, LMAO :)
14:52:28 <ynpvisitor40> ;)
14:52:34 <KorbenC> I thought you were talking about not having that much patience for F&M :)
14:52:52 <KorbenC> that might be my favorite chat line this year :P
14:52:58 <JarnoO> I'm sure Craig would stay for an event cycle if it looks good
14:53:01 <ynpvisitor40> Lol
14:54:27 <ynpvisitor40> Ok, off tp grand via f&m
14:55:01 <JarnoO> Craig, if you have any time tonight and Grotto is still ie, you might want to hang around Oblong
14:55:03 <KorbenC> cya
14:55:13 <JarnoO> but that's up to you
14:55:14 <ynpvisitor44> Have fun. FWIW, I've definitely heard of F&M having event-like activity when the system is first refilling.
14:59:23 <KorbenC> Ive got this OF JO
15:06:35 <Grand Larsenic> When F&M is up and running, what are its shortest intervals?
15:07:44 <JarnoO> 2-3d are the shortest consistent ones. There are also alledged sub-1d intervals
15:08:12 <ynpvisitor44> I think of a good year as 3-5 day intervals. 2.5-4 is a great year.
15:14:03 <Grand Larsenic> That's what I remembered
15:16:08 <KorbenC> see advisory on TD in Atlanic JO
15:16:24 <KorbenC> at least it isnt supposed to get to Hurricane strength of hit land!
15:16:28 <KorbenC> Lion 1510
15:16:30 <JarnoO> Lion 1510
15:16:47 <ynpvisitor44> Bonus: If F&M is active enough, we'll get much better records of Grotto Fountain and Rocket.
15:17:25 <JarnoO> and of Grotto too I bet
15:19:21 <ynpvisitor44> Yes. Although you've been able to track it pretty well on the camera already.
15:19:26 <Betty> time for sleep. night all
15:19:31 <JarnoO> night Betty
15:19:35 <ynpvisitor44> night, Betty.
15:19:42 <KorbenC> Betty, bye
15:19:48 <JarnoO> true, #44, but I sure would like some times which don't use the ">" operand :)
15:19:52 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Good Knight
15:21:30 <ynpvisitor44> Turban ie. will try to run errands in 20 minutes...
15:22:36 <JarnoO> good luck, #44
15:25:15 <Eric> FYI, of the last 48 F&M, the average is 5d15h, ranging from 3-7 days
15:25:43 <Eric> that is leaving out intervals over 10.5 days
15:35:01 <KorbenC> Khamela Harris selected as VP for Biden (I think thats how I spelled it :))
15:35:19 <ynpvisitor73>
15:36:01 <LindaG> KorbenC, kamala
15:36:17 <KorbenC> I spell alot of stuff with random H's :p
15:36:30 <Forestbewithyou> LOL
15:36:58 <KorbenC> Lindah :)
15:37:09 <JarnoO> Khohrbhen Choohpherh
15:37:19 <KorbenC> LMAO
15:37:33 <LindaG> KorbenC, khorbhen
15:38:08 <JarnoO> darn... Grotto quit
15:38:50 <KorbenC> Jharhnoh :)
15:39:05 <Khorbhen> now I look like I could be jimbo :P
15:39:12 <Forestbewithyou> LOL
15:39:28 <ynpvisitor56> maybe Craig C can pass around the news about how bad neck gaitors are for using as a mask. Many gazers use them.
15:39:32 <Khorbhen> If I ever discover something it will be named Khorbhen :P
15:40:20 <Khorbhen> They work, I am sure they are better than using no mask :)
15:40:43 <Khorbhen> I do really like Williams neck one.
15:40:45 <Eric> actually, they aren't Coop
15:40:48 <ynpvisitor56> they aren't though Korben
15:41:02 <Khorbhen> They arent even 0.0001 percent better?
15:41:03 <ynpvisitor56> someone show KC to the real scoop
15:41:18 <Khorbhen> It has to catch more virus then the open air.
15:41:22 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Did you see BNSF nailed another pedestrian in Flagstaff today Linda?
15:41:24 <ynpvisitor56> nope
15:41:36 <Eric> The most recent study on filtering materials says they can actually be worse if made of fleece material, due to their dispersion of water droplets.
15:41:46 <Khorbhen> huh, unteresting :)
15:41:51 <Khorbhen> interesting **
15:41:54 <ynpvisitor56> even poly ones disperse the droplets more
15:42:03 <ynpvisitor56> like William wears
15:42:25 <Eric> Yes, if you can see through it in the sunshine holding it up, it's probably not helping or making it worse.
15:42:39 <ynpvisitor56> I tried mine at home, to blow through them, they are very easy to blow through
15:42:39 <Khorbhen> arent those the ones most gazers use? I know that is the kind of one I at least use.
15:43:02 <Eric> It's what I used until this last weekend...now I use an actual mask.
15:43:12 <JarnoO> Grotto >20h08m
15:43:15 <ynpvisitor56> I can't see through mine yet I can feel the air when I blow through them
15:43:19 <Eric> Go Giant!
15:43:37 <ynpvisitor56> unlike my masks
15:43:41 <Eric> if you hold it up in the sunlight you can't see through it?
15:43:56 <JarnoO> probably need to wait for marathon recovery, should it have a hot period
15:43:58 <Eric> or can't see the light
15:43:59 <ynpvisitor56> well, they are dark colors, so nope
15:44:07 <Eric> interesting
15:44:09 <Khorbhen> JarnoO, think that is good for Oblong?
15:44:16 <Eric> good to know that test doesn't work all that well.
15:44:17 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, oh geez, maybe a maniacal engineer? 😉
15:44:38 <JarnoO> Korben, don't think so. Oblong needs >25h marathon
15:44:47 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I don't know what is going on there. That is 3 in less than a month!
15:44:55 <Khorbhen> Kevin L™ 🌵, thats no good, how many people are so clueless to get hit by a train.
15:45:00 <ynpvisitor56> I ordered some and was bummed when I got them that they were so easily breathed through
15:45:19 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, yikes
15:45:36 <Eric> This is what I wear now: https://www.hedleyandbennett.com/products/wake-up-and-fight-mask?variant=32029899325527
15:46:02 <Kevin L™ 🌵> It is a "quiet zone" so they don't use a horn unless something is wrrong. Perhaps they should rethink that.
15:46:13 <Eric> Big enough to fit my large noggin
15:46:36 <LindaG> LindaG, nice. I ordered my masks from Tom Bihn out of Seattle. They donate masks too.
15:46:48 <LindaG> That was for eric
15:47:16 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, yeah maybe that's contributing
15:47:34 <Eric> I have tried a bunch of different ones, these are the first I have found comfortable.
15:48:37 <JarnoO> Kevin, are it proper railway crossings with lights (and barriers and bells)?
15:48:47 <LindaG> Eric, what drives me crazy is my glasses steaming up
15:49:10 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Yes they are Jarno and they were working.
15:49:35 <LindaG> It's the people that arent working
15:49:50 <JarnoO> are some people really that stupid to specifically need a train horn to warn them instead of the crossing itself? Wow...
15:50:17 <Kevin L™ 🌵> True Linda. When I did the operation Lifesaver event it was amazing the issues at crossings.
15:50:58 <Khorbhen> Hey albee
15:51:03 <LindaG> Tracks always made me nervous
15:51:16 <albee> Howdy H
15:51:19 <Kevin L™ 🌵> The big problem Jarno is the welded rail which makes the trains pretty quiet and when they are coming at you they look slower than they are.
15:51:32 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Hi
15:51:40 <LindaG> albee, hi
15:51:59 <JarnoO> though you shouldn't be crossing a railway anyway when it's active...
15:52:27 <JarnoO> when the lights, barrier, etc. are active*
15:52:52 <Kevin L™ 🌵> You have people that want to beat the train. Trains are normally 10,000 feet to 15,000 feet there.
15:53:17 <JarnoO> yeah... that's much longer than I'm used to :P
15:53:23 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Very true Jarno. People just seem to think they can make it.
15:55:11 <Kevin L™ 🌵> This is the organization I used to volunteer with when I could hear things: https://oli.org/ Great group.
15:55:55 <Eric> Linda, the ones I linked have a flip up glass guard you can use. It makes a tighter seal at the top and slides underneath the bottom of your glasses.
15:56:44 <LindaG> Eric, oh I havent seen those
15:57:06 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I have a tough time breathing with a mask on. Hills and elevation are not going to be fun.
15:57:32 <Eric> sorry...not the one I have, but the stark vacuum ones have that feature: https://starks.com/products/face-masks/
15:57:32 <LindaG> Eric, Tom bihn has a metal nose clip so you can tighten around nose, but still gets steamy
15:58:15 <Eric> we have like 5 different kinds around our house :-P
15:58:37 <Eric> my daughter really loves that stark vacuum one because of the glass guard.
15:59:05 <Khorbhen> I guess dinner is early today, time for some steak, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes :)
15:59:21 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Controls released
15:59:25 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, I have trouble breathing in them also. Outdoors is easier than in stores, as long as it's not real humid
15:59:48 <albee> Thanks for driving today
16:00:01 <Eric> They definitely take some getting use to
16:00:04 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I don't do too well without one anymore anyway.
16:00:08 <LindaG> Eric, maybe I'll try a stark, but I have a ton of Tom bihn
16:00:25 <Eric> You could always just wear an oxygen mask Kevin.
16:00:29 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I would rather have some rainbows.
16:00:56 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I am hoping it doesn't come down to that.
16:00:57 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, that train organization looks real nice and it was nice of you to volunteer
16:01:28 <Eric> people watching GHG-13
16:01:36 <Kevin L™ 🌵> It was a lot of fun Linda. I liked doing kids and truck drivers the best.
16:01:39 <Eric> wonder if it's blipping
16:01:47 <LindaG> I cant imagine wearing an N95
16:02:04 <LindaG> Kevin L™ 🌵, 🙂
16:02:08 <Eric> I think they breath about the same Linda, just trap smaller particles
16:02:42 <Kevin L™ 🌵> I have a n95 respirator for turning pens but I just stand when I do that.
16:03:30 <LindaG> When this started I was wearing a microfiber dust mask. Omg I couldnt breath in it and it was humid.
16:13:20 <JarnoO> time for Turban
16:13:27 <JarnoO> and hopefully Grand too
16:13:44 <Eric> what are we looking at?
16:13:51 <Eric> Waiting for daisy?
16:13:59 <Eric> Can we get Grand in view too?
16:14:11 <Eric> You driving albee?
16:16:05 <albee> yup
16:16:11 <ynpvisitor6> Maybe an occassional glance at BH?
16:16:21 <JarnoO> I surely hoped for some rain, but the cloud simply dissolved just a few miles before it reached my city :(
16:16:33 <Eric> Thank you!
16:16:57 <ynpvisitor44> JarnoO, https://xkcd.com/831/
16:17:05 <Forestbewithyou> sounds like my house in a nutshell Jarno
16:17:21 <Forestbewithyou> all the good storms weaken before they reach my house
16:17:41 <Eric> Nice one 44
16:17:53 <JarnoO> there's an XKCD for everything :)
16:17:55 <JarnoO> Daisy
16:19:07 <Eric> well, for everything nerdy :-P
16:19:42 <ynpvisitor6> It'd be ok to shift slightly to actually see Daisy. Turban just erupted so we have a few on Grand
16:19:59 <ynpvisitor6> thanks
16:21:57 <JarnoO> This one bugs me so badly: https://xkcd.com/1770/ "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Same for UI changes
16:22:13 <Khorbhen> I am back, 44, LMAO :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D :)
16:23:10 <Khorbhen> Hi Graham
16:23:27 <JarnoO> afternoon Graham
16:23:35 <ynpvisitor44> That's probably a typical storm-chase?
16:23:45 <ynpvisitor44> Hi Graham
16:23:49 <Khorbhen> ynpvisitor44, haha, yup :) They never are where oyu are :P
16:24:44 <GO STEAMBOAT> good afernoon/evening
16:26:06 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Good Knight Graham.
16:26:18 <GO STEAMBOAT> you leaving Kevin?
16:26:57 <Kevin L™ 🌵> No, we plan on staying until Stanley shows up.
16:27:34 <Forestbewithyou> 44 you described exactly what happened to me yesterday with that first comic
16:28:31 <GO STEAMBOAT> your game is too late today for me
16:29:14 <ynpvisitor44> Glad to share one of my favorite comics.
16:29:33 <Eric> ugg, hurry up OF!
16:29:53 <Kevin L™ 🌵> That is why they call us the Knights
16:30:34 <Eric> I thought it was due to you having an excalibur hotel!
16:31:18 <Eric> Big preplay...hopefully not a big delay
16:31:35 <Kevin L™ 🌵> They play at the MGM. They should be the Lions
16:33:40 <GO STEAMBOAT> wow, a tractor trailer overturned ..... and its blcking all 4lanes and the shouder of the beltway. nice manoever
16:34:19 <ynpvisitor44> ***Tires screeching*** What? How?
16:34:44 <Eric> I think they should call the LV hockey team the deserters :-P
16:34:48 <GO STEAMBOAT> i am gad Iam not going out
16:35:23 <GO STEAMBOAT> will Dve support the Kracken and drp the Isles next season?
16:35:37 <Eric> I hope so! Go Kracken!
16:36:05 <GO STEAMBOAT> maybe he will after CAPS defeat them this series
16:37:17 <GO STEAMBOAT> I think OV is suffering because he cant go and party in the bubble
16:37:49 <JarnoO> Grand 1632 T--
16:38:12 <JarnoO> and we're in a preplay delay :(
16:38:16 <Kevin L™ 🌵> And OF sleeps.......
16:38:59 <ynpvisitor44> Darn. At least we're not missing Giant.
16:39:38 <JarnoO> don't speak too loudly now :D
16:39:39 <Khorbhen> FYI, it would be a good idea to peak at Bee after OF, and ever few minutes for a while, it is in window.
16:40:49 <ynpvisitor59> did you get a name change Korben?
16:41:02 <Eric> Interesting white build up behind the BW here.
16:41:15 <ynpvisitor59> or has Graham's spelling rubbed off on you
16:41:20 <Khorbhen> I added H's in honor of me spelling things with unnecessaryh h's
16:41:23 <Eric> Hi Dave
16:41:49 <ynpvisitor59> where is Dave?
16:42:06 <Kevin L™ 🌵> Dave ain't here...
16:42:10 <ynpvisitor59> like oyu instead of you
16:42:58 <JarnoO> preplay delay eded
16:43:03 <JarnoO> ended*
16:43:15 <ynpvisitor59> person at Inn corner testing the boundary
16:43:35 <ynpvisitor59> he's in the pink dirt
16:43:38 <Eric> You sounded like Dave 59 :-D But now I know you are not.
16:44:11 <Kitt> does that help
16:44:17 <Eric> :-D
16:44:38 <Kitt> there goes the next person
16:44:44 <Eric> Picking on Graham is usually dave's job
16:45:01 <Kitt> each one moving farther away
16:45:03 <Khorbhen> :)
16:45:42 <GO STEAMBOAT> hey, i spellered my nick right today
16:45:52 <JarnoO> T1C
16:45:59 <Kitt> you did what?
16:46:21 <Eric> Yep, I think as long as they stay on the gravel, they are probably ok. It's pretty iffy on technically what is and isn't legal to stand on there.
16:46:44 <Kitt> nope, they are to be on the sidewalk
16:46:55 <Kitt> or the asphalt
16:47:02 <Eric> So can you legally walk in the gravel behind the BW?
16:47:10 <JarnoO> NPS is probably condoning it
16:47:28 <Kitt> they don't like it but too much trouble to enforce it
16:47:34 <Korben> JarnoO, you got this one?
16:47:37 <Eric> Never seen park service enforce it.
16:47:48 <Korben> Beehive is in window :)
16:47:51 <Eric> yes, and I would consider that corner about the same.
16:47:54 <Kitt> if a ranger was over near that corner they would be told to return
16:48:12 <Kitt> I have seen them move entire groups from that area
16:48:33 <Eric> Well, I would assume rangers would tell idiots to stay off the BW with scooters too, but apparently they are letting a lot of those guys slide this year!
16:48:35 <JarnoO> probably missed Lion
16:48:44 <Eric> LC
16:49:28 <GO STEAMBOAT> Dave is hiding today, worried about his Isles losing to the CAPS tomorrow
16:49:30 <Kitt> you mean accesability scooters?
16:50:10 <Eric> No, people on motorized unicycles and scooters...have heard multiple people now say that rangers have done nothing about them out on the BW.
16:50:26 <Korben> Kitt, motorized unicycles :)
16:50:48 <Eric> Grand is long gone
16:51:00 <Kitt> we rarely had a problem with that last year
16:51:24 <Eric> yes, apparently this year there is a ton of it
16:51:30 <GO STEAMBOAT> does Craig have his eBike there?
16:51:44 <Kitt> I am going to presume that is a "we are an American and have a right to do what we want"
16:52:42 <Kitt> with the way many people are acting, I am sure the Rangers are trying to keep from getting hurt
16:53:00 <Eric> That could be Kitt
16:53:12 <Eric> Yes, Craig has his ebike, but he doesn't ride it on BW
16:53:35 <GO STEAMBOAT> i see he has been getting to Lone Star several times
16:53:52 <GO STEAMBOAT> might need one for the F&M ride now ... hipefully
16:54:05 <Korben> with an E-Bike craig might have been able to beat me down to Daisy :)
16:54:30 <Kitt> E bikes have always been in the gray area
16:54:44 <Kitt> hopefully no incidents or accidents
16:54:45 <GO STEAMBOAT> i think they are officially legal
16:55:20 <GO STEAMBOAT> there was a bike with a gas motor on the C&M Canal towpath Sunday, smelly
16:55:45 <Kitt> otherwise they may just close the paved path to foot traffic and wheelchairs/scooters
16:55:57 <Kitt> to only ...
16:56:20 <Eric> ebikes are totally legal on the paved pathway per federal regulations.
16:56:21 <Kitt> that topic has come up several times over the years
16:56:32 <Eric> that was enacted last year
16:57:06 <Kitt> but up until last year it wasn't ok
16:57:14 <Eric> Yep
16:57:23 <Eric> like you said, very gray area before that
16:57:47 <Kitt> but if it gets closed to bikes then ebikes will be in that same group
16:58:19 <Eric> Yep :-( I don't really have any issues with ebikes. People can go just as fast or faster on normal bikes most of the time
16:59:03 <Eric> hey albee, can we try to keep peeking at BH too?
16:59:03 <Kitt> yes, the problem is some people ride too fast
16:59:26 <Eric> guilty sometimes :-(
17:00:07 <Eric> Maybe putting a few max speed/slow down signs along the path would help remind everyone to keep it slow.
17:00:32 <Kitt> I have had to deal with 5 bus loads of tourists walking down there that I had to bike through and I have been on foot and almost run over
17:00:40 <Korben> they need a slowdown on the far path outside Daisy, I came out and almost got crashed into.
17:01:14 <Eric> or just add a walking/biking lane markers on the path.
17:01:18 <Kitt> that is because visability there is very limited
17:01:29 <Eric> If walkers kept to one side it would resolve some issues too
17:01:37 <Korben> but if they put a slowdown side in then I dont have to worry about it :)
17:01:37 <Kitt> they could also put a stop sign from Daisy path
17:01:55 <Kitt> time for chores
17:02:04 <Eric> bye Kitt
17:02:09 <Korben> Bye Kitt
17:02:40 <Korben> GHG-13 grabing some more attention
17:16:28 <Korben> Albee, if your waiting for Aurum it isnt due for quite a while.
17:16:56 <Eric> uhh, that was good water at aurum
17:17:28 <Eric> but we could definitely include BH in the view :-D
17:17:38 <Korben> I guess its possible, but it would be one the shortesti ntervals in the past 100.
17:17:48 <Eric> Pump!
17:18:45 <Eric> we have had 7 aurum intervals under 3h in the last 100
17:18:55 <Eric> one at 3h22m
17:19:05 <Korben> "Min 3h 15m"
17:19:08 <Korben> "Min 3h 15m"
17:19:12 <Eric> so definitely not the shortest in last 100
17:19:12 <Korben> "Min 3h 15m
17:19:28 <Korben> one (of) the shortesti
17:20:51 <GO STEAMBOAT> its been a whiel since we had intervals under 3h .. i think you meant 4h
17:22:55 <GO STEAMBOAT> we had a lot of them after Ear SPring erupted
17:24:39 <Eric> sorry, yes, under 4h
17:25:55 <Korben> can we check on Bee?
17:28:23 <Korben> Beehive is dead center right now :)
17:31:15 <Eric> albee hates BH :-P
17:31:24 <Korben> I guess he does :)
17:31:29 <Eric> BH is slightly to the right :-D
17:31:32 <Korben> Lion looks EOS
17:32:21 <ynpvisitor117> Eric, so I looked at your link once for the face masks with nose guard and now its showing up on my Facebook feed, impressive but annoying. 🙂
17:36:21 <LindaG> Hedley and Bennett too
17:37:27 <Eric> yep, those facebook connections are a PITA
17:37:58 <Eric> you can tell facebook you are not interested in the product on the ad and it will stop showing them to you.
17:38:28 <Eric> Perfect Albee!
17:40:43 <Eric> did you know there is no law against nudity in National Parks? Interesting to know :-P
17:41:08 <JarnoO> don't give them ideas...
17:41:31 <Eric> haha
17:42:21 <LindaG> Eric, I'm always amazed at how quickly it happens
17:43:05 <Eric> Yep, they let facebook know you visited their website and then facebook gets paid to deliver their ads to you.
17:43:19 <Eric> Google does the same thing.
17:43:55 <JarnoO> use an adblocker. Works wonders in most cases
17:44:46 <Eric> Yep, they do a pretty good job. But for content sites, they will block you from viewing their content if you block their ads.
17:50:03 <JarnoO> I've seen a few of those sites simply applying an overlay which makes the remainder of the site "inaccessible". So instead of disabling the adblocker, I simply block the overlay element :D
17:50:18 <Korben> Well, I am going to head out early tonight, I will hapilly be the Bee sacrafice as long as you send a text :)
17:50:23 <JarnoO> cya Korben
17:51:21 <JarnoO> alternatively I stop the site from loading so that not all script elements have a chance of running. Also works wonders
17:54:54 <albee> Sorry for the delay, my paying job decided to call a video conf meeting.
17:55:04 <albee> And I do like BH
17:55:11 <Eric> uggg,work! it's the worst :-P
17:55:27 <Eric> totally understand albee, just kidding, figured you had stuff going on.
18:04:33 <ynpvisitor39> No BH yet?
18:04:43 <JarnoO> nope
18:07:02 <albee> here ya go
18:07:14 <JarnoO> 1h49m!
18:07:14 <albee> :daisy:
18:07:35 <ynpvisitor39> Nice short interval
18:07:50 <Eric> nice...keep creeping down Daisy :-D
18:08:01 <Eric> I think it would be splendid :-P
18:08:13 <ynpvisitor39> Lol
18:08:40 <JarnoO> next year I think we might be averaging around 1h50m, based on the interval drops over the last few years
18:09:19 <JarnoO> currently we're around 2h00m to 2h05m
18:10:53 <JarnoO> Fluffer wants attention
18:14:37 <JarnoO> also a good duration considering the interval. ±3m24s
18:14:51 <JarnoO> longer intervals resulted in a shorter duration
18:15:37 <albee> of
18:36:43 <Forestbewithyou> I am going to hop off for tonight. Night all!
18:36:56 <JarnoO> cya Forest
18:37:01 <albee> Night forest
18:40:13 <LindaG> Forestbewithyou🌲🌳☀, night
18:40:45 <LindaG> Hi michael
18:47:31 <JarnoO> can we take a peek at Beehive?
18:48:43 <JarnoO> still dead. Oh well. Thanks
18:49:02 <JarnoO> nice steam on Giantess for a few though
18:49:07 <JarnoO> hi kc, Michael
18:50:22 <JarnoO> might've been the tail end of a southeastern rim boil
18:50:53 <JarnoO> GHG-13 getting some attention
18:53:04 <JarnoO> some steam
18:53:18 <JarnoO> probably erupting down in the vent
18:53:25 <JarnoO> which we cannot see
18:54:09 <JarnoO> splash
