01:20:10 <ynpvisitor94> Too bad Joe didn’t do a video capture of F&M
01:20:35 <ynpvisitor94> Glad it erupted again !
01:21:06 <ynpvisitor94> Lion ie
02:16:31 <ynpvisitor23> OF
02:26:40 <ynpvisitor23> Daisy
02:30:33 <ynpvisitor23> Lion
03:32:43 <JarnoO> good early morning all
04:18:04 <ynpvisitor106> Nice video of F&M thanks Joe. Wonder if Jeff caught it.
04:19:03 <ynpvisitor78> If Jeff caught it he would have posted it
04:20:24 <ynpvisitor78> Looks like Dave W was out in the basin. Too bad he missed it
04:20:58 <ynpvisitor78> Daisy at 0024, he was close!
04:29:25 <JarnoO> Lion again
04:33:34 <JarnoO> Joe, Lion was already @ 0428ns
05:04:49 <JarnoO> morning Ryan
05:05:48 <Ryan(-3)> mornin
05:13:10 <Ryan(-3)> boy I sure am ready to get out of here.
05:14:41 <JarnoO> I imagine
05:15:18 <Ryan(-3)> haven't had much of a break since February
05:21:32 <Ryan(-3)> I am going to take my Mammoth Cave trilogy books. I am rereading them
05:21:47 <ynpvisitor69> Learning about all the fun and leisure that the rest of us working class pukes have been having?? :)
05:22:30 <Ryan(-3)> haha, 69
05:23:12 <Ryan(-3)> The backdrop of COVID became less of a stressor in the office sometime around July.
05:25:55 <Ryan(-3)> Though the break will be short lived. Today I am scheduling surgery for my mouth
05:27:39 <JarnoO> bad tooth or teeth?
05:28:11 <Ryan(-3)> impacted wisdom tooth that I ignored for years.
05:28:20 <JarnoO> that's no fun
05:28:23 <Ryan(-3)> Now its messing up a molar back there. One or both need to come out
05:29:22 <ynpvisitor69> sorry
05:29:24 <Ryan(-3)> coincidentally the problems began during my Yellowstone trip last october, and it will be ending just after my trip this year
05:30:22 <Ryan(-3)> Thanks, 69 and JO. But its my own fault for ignoring it for so long.
05:54:08 <Sam> Almost 2 hours on OF?
05:54:25 <JarnoO> morning Sam. Not sure. Could be that it went before window
05:55:41 <ynpvisitor69> had a 2 h yesterday
05:56:08 <Sam> I saw that
05:56:29 <Sam> And it had a pretty consistent short/long pattern yesterday too
05:58:15 <Sam> Idk, OF doesn't look like it's getting ready to erupt. I might go with Jarno's theory
06:00:32 <Ryan(-3)> It could be in a long delay
06:01:21 <Sam> That too
06:01:21 <Ryan(-3)> ITs still having steam huffing cycles. I am not convinced it hasnt erupted yet. But I am equally unconvinced that i has
06:05:54 <KorbenC> yay, F&M went
06:06:00 <Ryan(-3)> Trying to come up with Madison-localized backcountry stuff to do that I havent yet seen.
06:06:19 <Ryan(-3)> I am already thinking about Moument and Osprey Falls.
06:07:58 <KorbenC> OF looks like it went before window
06:10:15 <ynpvisitor76> after GTrand we will look at OF until it erupts
06:10:26 <ynpvisitor76> Grand
06:17:23 <KorbenC> OF def went before window
06:33:04 <KorbenC> CHURUN?
06:33:07 <KorbenC> CHURN?
06:33:11 <KorbenC> .
06:33:12 <KorbenC> .
06:33:14 <JarnoO> looks like it
06:33:25 <KorbenC> nice
06:33:35 <JarnoO> near end though
06:36:41 <JarnoO> 2h39m interval implies 0356 was a short. Darn steam
06:37:51 <Ryan(-3)> Joe do you have a capture for 0356?
06:45:55 <ynpvisitor76> of ~0356:30 to ~0359:20
06:45:59 <JarnoO> Daisy ie
06:46:20 <JarnoO> also, Churn near end was actually Sprinkler steam
06:47:08 <JarnoO> ±2m50s - would've been a medium at a ±1h05m-ish interval
06:48:46 <JarnoO> steamy overflow from Giantess
06:48:55 <Ryan(-3)> Nice to see the hill looking "normal"
06:51:32 <ynpvisitor76> soon we will have a very good cam op on cam, not a tired old hasbeen )
06:54:31 <KorbenC> MC
06:54:55 <KorbenC> far Dwarf trying something
06:57:01 <Kat> Good morning all!
06:57:10 <KorbenC> Hi Kat
06:57:12 <KorbenC> .
06:57:12 <KorbenC> .
06:57:12 <KorbenC> ..
06:57:13 <KorbenC> NG
06:57:14 <KorbenC> .
06:57:14 <KorbenC> .
06:57:15 <KorbenC> .
06:57:54 <Kat> Nice
06:58:10 <KorbenC> start is dead on 6:57:00
07:00:31 <ynpvisitor76> it is all yours Kat
07:00:54 <Kat> Thanks Joe - have a good day!
07:00:54 <JarnoO> Korben, 0656:59, need to press spacebar quicker
07:01:12 <JarnoO> morning Kat, Poktapok
07:01:16 <JarnoO> cya Joe
07:01:36 <Poktapok> Morring
07:01:53 <Kat> Morning!
07:03:45 <JarnoO> seems like Giantess woke up NG
07:04:08 <Kat> It appears so
07:05:15 <Kat> Bulger
07:05:51 <ynpvisitor105> ?
07:06:03 <ynpvisitor105> its caitlynn
07:06:38 <Poktapok> Hey
07:07:04 <Forestbewithyou> Good Morning my Fellow peeps
07:07:04 <JarnoO> morning Terry, Caitlynn, Forest
07:07:18 <Kat> Morning all
07:07:23 <Caitlynn> what is this?
07:07:53 <JarnoO> Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin
07:08:07 <Poktapok> 🤷‍♀️
07:08:14 <Forestbewithyou> more specifically the Sawmill group
07:08:23 <Caitlynn> in English please
07:08:27 <Forestbewithyou> (my favorite group) :)
07:08:48 <KorbenC> Caitlynn, the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park is about as broad as I can get it :)
07:08:54 <KorbenC> Hi Forest
07:08:59 <Forestbewithyou> Here I can try to explain
07:09:01 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Korben
07:09:20 <Ryan(-3)> Perhaps asking her how she got here is a better response.
07:09:48 <Ryan(-3)> Knowing someone's context helps provide better answers :) Caitlynn, how did you find us?
07:10:00 <Forestbewithyou> Ok
07:10:13 <Caitlynn> Dark web haha
07:10:26 <KorbenC> so Mary Greely?
07:10:31 <Ryan(-3)> Well, we aren't exactly a part of the dark web.
07:10:51 <Ryan(-3)> This is a group of people interested in the geyser activity of Yellowstone National Park.
07:11:00 <ynpvisitor2> NG replay https://youtu.be/UW2D9Tn1RBw
07:11:20 <Caitlynn> thats how i found you
07:11:25 <Ryan(-3)> We watch them from a webcam, and talk about their activity, and occaisionally yell and be assholes to each other...
07:12:00 <Ryan(-3)> Well, I am the asshole, and somehow most everyone else either ignores it, or otherwise has yet to excommunicate my ISP
07:12:06 <KorbenC> just occaisionally? :P
07:12:14 <JarnoO> thanks Joe
07:12:28 <KorbenC> nice Joe, thx
07:12:35 <Forestbewithyou> Thanks Joe
07:12:46 <Kat> Joe :)
07:12:49 <Ryan(-3)> Dont think you'll find much dark web, or Mary Greely-like stuff here. But were happy to take questions and answer as best we can!
07:12:57 <Ryan(-3)> and welcome!
07:13:00 <ynpvisitor2>
07:14:09 <Kat> Cold this morning. Did Craig go back home?
07:14:38 <JarnoO> didn't he say he wanted to stay for a few weeks?
07:14:56 <Kat> I thought so nut not sure
07:15:08 <Kat> But* not nut! LOL
07:15:35 <JarnoO> looked like a decent SE rim boil on Giantess there
07:16:19 <ynpvisitor2> Kat, I do not know but I sent him a F&M text last night at 0045ish, I hope he is ok with that :)
07:16:34 <Kat> :)
07:16:44 <Ryan(-3)> a sub-week Giantess interval following a 6 year one would be hysterical
07:19:47 <Ryan(-3)> Welcome back to our little corner of the internet, Caitlynn
07:20:11 <Caitlynn> Ty
07:20:59 <Kat> Dome
07:21:27 <Caitlynn> hasnt this been smoking for years?
07:21:41 <Ryan(-3)> Which vent?
07:22:06 <Ryan(-3)> The one at the top of the mound we are looking at is Dome Geyser. It's active every few days.
07:22:26 <Ryan(-3)> It will erupt about every 45-70 minutes for most of the day.
07:22:39 <KorbenC> Caitlynn, its not smoke, smoke would be caused by fire, this is all steam (evaporated water)
07:22:51 <Caitlynn> oh ok so is this the most it has been smoking for?
07:23:10 <Caitlynn> steam*
07:23:15 <KorbenC> :)
07:23:24 <Ryan(-3)> Yeah. It just started erupting now.
07:23:42 <Ryan(-3)> Looks like its last eruption was about 40 minutes ago
07:23:57 <Caitlynn> so underneath that steam is active larva?
07:24:08 <KorbenC> well, this geyser erupts in a series, meaning it will go a week or two without erupting, and then it will have a series of eruptions after one eruption starts the cycle, then it will have a bunch of eruptions spaced from 20 minutes to about an hour.
07:24:11 <JarnoO> series end will probably be somewhere late today or tonight
07:24:21 <Ryan(-3)> Every vent you see here that is emitting a steam plume (most of them) are active thermal features capable of erupting hot water.
07:24:38 <KorbenC> The geysers are powered by the heat from the magma, which is a few miles down, so not "close" to the surface
07:24:39 <Ryan(-3)> Down a couple of miles is the magma plume from the Yellowstone Volcano.
07:25:12 <Ryan(-3)> The thermals are heated by rocks a few hundred feet down that are anywhere from 200-500 degrees F
07:26:09 <Ryan(-3)> Its just been business as usual here.
07:26:23 <KorbenC> Ryan(-3), if Giantess goes will you go to the UGB?
07:26:27 <Caitlynn> if it erupted would it affect the world or just America?
07:26:29 <Ryan(-3)> Yes.
07:26:43 <Ryan(-3)> Would depend on the eruption.
07:26:48 <Ryan(-3)> Most likely just the US.
07:27:38 <Caitlynn> So Aaron why do you watch this when we are from the U.K.???
07:28:18 <Ryan(-3)> The caldera is littered with old lava domes formed from gentle and quiet eruptions of lava of the last 600,000 years. Odds are that the next eruption would be something like what you'd see in Hawaii or from your typical Cascades volcano.
07:29:17 <Caitlynn> Kinda boring
07:29:27 <Ryan(-3)> Yeah, it is for much of the time.
07:29:59 <Ryan(-3)> I keep it up while I am at work, chat here with friends I know, and every now and then something interesting happens.
07:30:02 <Caitlynn> what excitement is to be gained?
07:30:20 <Ryan(-3)> Eruptions from some features can be rather impressive.
07:30:27 <Caitlynn> You could be watching this for a lifetime and still nothing will change.
07:30:51 <Ryan(-3)> Not exactly, much has changed in the 10 years I have been watching.
07:30:57 <Kat> Changes happen all the time, sometimes very sutbtle
07:31:10 <Kat> Sometimes not
07:31:46 <Caitlynn> Exactly Ryan 10 years dont you have like a job or play games watch movies? lol rather then this boring old man stuff
07:31:52 <Ryan(-3)> Thats the beauty many of us find, the patterns and behaviors of the thermals vary constantly and can be very subtle, or extremely dramatic. Observing, documenting, and analyzing, those changes is a facet of this that many of us enjoy - along with the beauty of an erupting geyser.
07:32:03 <Caitlynn> This is old man stuff
07:32:20 <KorbenC> not really :)
07:32:33 <KorbenC> I am 14 and part of a growing generation of younger people itnerested in these things
07:32:41 <Ryan(-3)> I'm an engineer in Pennsylvania, I keep this up on one of my monitors at my desk.
07:32:47 <KorbenC> GF ie?
07:32:56 <Ryan(-3)> Looks like Grotto Fountain to me.
07:33:07 <Ryan(-3)> Yeah, its kind of old man stuff.
07:33:54 <Ryan(-3)> I think for many of us the thermal fields of Yellowstone are a home - one we don't get to visit often enough, or for long enough. This is a good way to stay home.
07:34:37 <Caitlynn> Well yall have fun bye.
07:34:46 <Ryan(-3)> Have a good day, Caitlynn.
07:35:32 <KorbenC> well, school time :)
07:35:44 <Kat> Have fun Korben
07:36:08 <Ryan(-3)> Pretty confident that Grotto Fountain is ie. MAy want to wait for Grotto to confirm though. ITs steamy this morning.
07:36:42 <Kat> Too steamy here!
07:43:40 <JarnoO> morning Bhoffer
07:43:56 <Ryan(-3)> that went a lot better than the last person we had from MG.
07:44:18 <KorbenC(tablet)> Agreed
07:44:18 <Bhoffer> Good morning JarnoO and everyone
07:44:28 <KorbenC(tablet)> Hi Bhoffer
07:48:14 <Kat> The Space X Falcon launch last evening was awesome!
07:48:42 <JarnoO> morning SF
07:49:01 <Kat> Aurum splashing
07:49:04 <SantaFe108> hello janro
07:49:13 <Kat> SantaFe108, Morning
07:49:20 <SantaFe108> hello kat
07:51:42 <Kat> Bulger ie
08:00:35 <Kat> Wow - almost missed it
08:04:32 <JarnoO> 0759ns - it was just before peak height
08:07:47 <Kat> Repair to the bw?
08:07:58 <ynpvisitor53> getting ready now g
08:09:01 <Kat> JarnoO, Thanks
08:10:09 <Mike J> You know it's going to be a great Monday morning when you get your name wrong. Morning all
08:10:29 <Kat> Mike J, Hi
08:10:51 <Bhoffer> Morning Mike J
08:11:12 <Mike J> Hi Kat, Bhoffer
08:11:23 <SantaFe108> hi mike
08:11:24 <Kat> Bhoffer, Morning
08:11:33 <JarnoO> morning Mike
08:12:28 <Mike J> Morning JarnoO
08:13:30 <Caitlynn> :sb:
08:13:59 <KorbenC(tablet)> Wb Caitlyn
08:14:06 <SantaFe108> hello caitlynn
08:14:25 <Caitlynn> Hiya and ty
08:14:31 <KorbenC(tablet)> That is the SB emoji, steamboat is the tallest geyser in the world, it can erupt hot water to over 400ft
08:15:01 <KorbenC(tablet)> And it's in Norris geyser basin, which is not viewable from the cam
08:15:26 <Bhoffer> It would be cool to have a SB live cam tho
08:16:12 <Caitlynn> Poktapok u here?
08:17:18 <Mike J> Getting the chance to watch giantess really made me wonder how it might be possible to get more cams in other locations.
08:18:02 <Mike J> For example, F&M, Giant, even Castle and Grand
08:18:26 <JarnoO> maybe with Starlink
08:19:05 <Mike J> Considering the trouble getting this one to run right all the time...ah well, one can dream
08:20:27 <JarnoO> Daisy
08:20:33 <JarnoO> I think
08:20:44 <JarnoO> no, that's Comet
08:21:58 <JarnoO> morning Jimbo. Unfortunately my notebook's front cover has 112 only as Uub :/

08:28:06 <Eric> Morning
08:28:13 <JarnoO> morning Eric
08:28:17 <Kat> HI Eric
08:28:25 <Eric> Hi Jarno, Kat

08:30:04 <Eric> looks like Washburn SW static got moved.
08:31:50 <I Am Platinum M> Eric, I had an upgrade :D
08:38:52 <ynpvisitor9> Say Bye To Your Wifi, ??
08:39:40 <I Am Platinum M> I thought he was indicating our communications will be going back to notes written in crayon.
08:40:10 <ynpvisitor9> ah! thanks
08:41:14 <ynpvisitor9> I just bought a new box, 64 colors
08:41:44 <Eric> Nice, compact, portable and enough color to get the job done!
08:50:44 <Katie> Hi all
08:51:19 <Kat> Daisy
08:51:23 <Kat> Hi Katie
08:51:31 <Katie> Hi Kat and all
08:54:54 <Kat> Old Tardy
08:56:32 <Eric> Hi Katie
09:07:17 <KorbenC(tablet)> Fyi all
09:07:43 <KorbenC(tablet)> There is a trace coming up on YNR and somewhat on YNNm,
09:07:48 <KorbenC(tablet)> It is not SB
09:08:03 <Forestbewithyou> Interesting
09:08:55 <JarnoO> I think it's too early for the boat
09:09:17 <JarnoO> likely mechanical noise
09:09:19 <KorbenC(tablet)> Well, I have swarm up just incas
09:09:21 <KorbenC(tablet)> e
09:13:19 <Eric> I see nothing on YNM
09:14:19 <Eric> AB
09:14:37 <KorbenC(tablet)> There was a small signal on HHZ, and HHN, didn't know if it would have iti n Shz
09:16:25 <Eric> Interesting...at least a 5 series lion
09:17:10 <Eric> Can we see water yet in Giantess?
09:17:24 <KorbenC(tablet)> Eric, its oferflowing
09:17:25 <JarnoO> it appeared full yesterday morning
09:17:36 <JarnoO> and quite steamy runoff earlier this morning
09:18:09 <JarnoO> possibly also had some SE rim boils not too long after I saw the steamy runoff
09:19:05 <I Am Platinum M> Sure looks energetic
09:19:13 <JarnoO> it does
09:19:26 <Eric> Nice!
09:19:38 <Kat> Hoping
09:19:54 <Eric> It's been 6.75 years...it could do another eruption without waiting a month :-D
09:19:58 <JarnoO> probably was a heavy boiling episode there. Steam looked very forced
09:20:36 <ynpvisitor9> 06:04:27 ‹LindaG› Oh I wonder if giantess has water 06:04:53 ‹Go STEAMBOAT› morning Linda. Yesterdays comment was that it was filling 06:04:54 ‹Betty› at least it looks like it has 06:05:21 ‹LindaG› It does look like it, the steam seems to be sitting in top 06:05:25 ‹LindaG› Go STEAMBOAT, hi 06:05:34 ‹LindaG› *on 06:06:11 ‹ynpvisitor83› steamy runoff 06:06:21 ‹LindaG
09:25:50 <Eric> Nice...so early Sunday. Less than 24 refill. No idea if that has any bearing on it's recovery or future eruption, but interesting to note.
09:25:58 <Eric> 24 hour
09:26:51 <Eric> One of the observers might want to add that as a note for future reference.
09:27:18 <Kat> Dome on static
09:27:43 <Eric> ugg, thanks Kat
09:27:54 <Kat> :)
09:37:16 <ynpvisitor9> F&M note by CraigC, Super!!
09:37:59 <Eric> wow...did we miss an F&M overnight?
09:38:14 <JarnoO> Joe caught it on cam
09:38:21 <ynpvisitor9> it is there 0041 ie
09:38:43 <Eric> ahhhh, nobody mentioned that when I asked about interesting stuff :-P
09:38:50 <Forestbewithyou> LOL
09:38:58 <Eric> Guess I get what I pay for :-D
09:39:03 <Forestbewithyou> excuse me... you missed fan and mortar Eric
09:39:04 <JarnoO> intervals should shorten up after this eruption, based on previous active phases
09:39:24 <Eric> It's that time of year Jarno :-D
09:39:30 <SantaFe108> oblong, churn, F&M all in the middle of the night
09:39:38 <Eric> oblong too!
09:39:41 <Forestbewithyou> WAIT CHURN WENT???????
09:39:48 <Eric> hahaha
09:40:23 <Forestbewithyou> Oblong didn't go last night
09:40:26 <Forestbewithyou> that was two days ago
09:40:29 <Eric> I see no oblong
09:40:43 <Eric> ahh, thanks forest
09:40:52 <Forestbewithyou> np
09:41:02 <Forestbewithyou> I was like if oblong went thats like 3 days in a row
09:41:04 <Eric> OF static stuck on OF eruption :-D
09:41:07 <SantaFe108> i mean that they went in the night that nobody here could see it
09:41:13 <Forestbewithyou> oh wait
09:41:13 <Forestbewithyou> 2
09:41:25 <Eric> nevermind, it updated now
09:41:28 <Kat> Not mine Eric
09:44:35 <Kat> Light snow in some parts of the park this AM

09:53:04 <Kat> Bulger ie
09:58:50 <Eric> wow...nice dwarf
09:58:50 <Kat> 'What is that to the left of depression
09:59:00 <Eric> It's a dwarf
09:59:09 <Kat> Dwarf! Thought so
09:59:13 <SantaFe108> a nice one too
09:59:26 <Eric> been a while since we have had anything consistent out of the dwarves
10:00:01 <JarnoO> dinnertime
10:00:08 <Katie> Ooops. My alarm time is a minute early and I signed in early.
10:00:09 <SantaFe108> bye ajnr
10:00:11 <SantaFe108> jarno
10:00:26 <Eric> Your fired
10:00:27 <Kat> OK :)
10:00:34 <Eric> or you're fired
10:00:53 <Kat> Not fired!!!
10:01:16 <Eric> haha....ok, but just this once
10:01:26 <Kat> Nice Dwarfs
10:02:07 <Eric> One of these would be fun to take into Yellowstone: https://kokopellipackraft.com/product/rogue-lite-2020/?aff=2
10:02:33 <Kat> Have fun Katie and all - bbs
10:02:34 <Eric> take up to the tern lake area and paddle around :-D
10:02:49 <Kat> Eric, I can see you floating along now!
10:02:51 <Eric> or across shoshone
10:03:04 <Eric> it only weighs 5 pounds!
10:03:13 <Eric> Kevlar reinforced
10:03:30 <Kat> Didn't see the price on it
10:04:04 <ynpvisitor99> Eric, you thinking about the new Thermal area?
10:05:16 <Kat> Lion puffing
10:06:44 <ynpvisitor99> Is that Tilt's Baby post an eruption or should it be a note?
10:06:54 <Eric> I would love to head out there 99, plus just see all the other thermal areas around there...it is a very hot part of the park :-D
10:07:24 <Eric> I would want to make the trek with some other people though...too many bears to do that area solo.
10:08:32 <Eric> Accidental eruption I am sure...it's way too easy on the phone to do that.
10:08:55 <ynpvisitor99> solo woud be a bit risky
10:09:06 <ynpvisitor9> dome
10:09:59 <Eric> Yes, having three people and at least one slower than me would be optimal :-D
10:10:28 <ynpvisitor99> funny
10:11:22 <Eric> bear humor...it's good for the sole
10:12:01 <ynpvisitor99> You did see the June 2020 article from Vaughan, Hungerford and Keller?
10:17:29 <Eric> Not sure...was it about the new tern lake area?
10:17:43 <ynpvisitor99> Yes
10:18:03 <ynpvisitor118> Thanks Joe and Eric for catching my gt faux pas
10:18:13 <Eric> https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/feart.2020.00204/full
10:18:34 <Eric> No problem Craig...I just wanted to make sure you noticed...hopefully it didn't get double flagged :-|
10:18:53 <ynpvisitor99> That's the one
10:19:07 <Eric> Yes then 99, I was looking at their aerial thermal images the other day :-D
10:19:36 <ynpvisitor118> William has had to scold me about 3 times in the last month for the same blunder
10:20:28 <ynpvisitor118> Huge kudos to Joe for spotting a night time fm from cam
10:20:39 <Eric> haha, yes, I have seen your other ones, figured you would fix them whenever. Not a big deal at all, just wanted to make sure you knew.
10:20:50 <Eric> Yes...thanks for the confirm BTW
10:20:57 <ynpvisitor118> Yw
10:21:11 <Eric> Bummed you missed it :-(
10:21:16 <ynpvisitor118> Cool splashing and jets in main
10:21:31 <Eric> But it should start getting in rhythm now.
10:21:46 <Eric> I expect you to get a F&M soon :-D
10:21:58 <ynpvisitor118> Ill keep eyes on it when i am here
10:22:20 <ynpvisitor99> Hopefully F&M will settle into some sort of pattern before the end of the season. Maybe in Oct
10:22:21 <Eric> Lion?
10:22:32 <Eric> I saw that too Katie
10:22:36 <Eric> looked like water
10:22:45 <ynpvisitor118> And I'll get more entries when i grasp what i am seeing
10:22:56 <Eric>
10:23:05 <Eric> I think it just takes time sitting there.
10:23:23 <ynpvisitor99> It can take a while to sort itself out after a dormancy
10:23:24 <Eric> If cynthia or tara are down there...sit with them!
10:24:00 <Eric> probably a bunch of other gurus too, but I know for sure you will learn a lot!
10:24:08 <ynpvisitor118> Thats what i am trying. Tara helped me for a min yesterday
10:28:43 <ynpvisitor99> Craig, do you have any of the Transactions articles on F&M?
10:31:03 <ynpvisitor118> ynpvisitor99, at home on pc, i dont own a printer
10:31:57 <ynpvisitor99> you could maybe put em on your phone? or a tablet if you have one
10:32:27 <ynpvisitor118> I need to learn how to read a pdf file on phone
10:32:51 <ynpvisitor99> its easy. Google can help you of course
10:33:02 <ynpvisitor118> Ok
10:33:18 <ynpvisitor118> Off to cgeck riverside, bbl
10:44:08 <KorbenC> on my lunch break :)
10:45:26 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Korben
10:46:15 <Ryan(-3)> Artemisia
10:46:25 <SantaFe108> hi okroebm
10:46:46 <Forestbewithyou> SF umm who is that?
10:49:15 <KorbenC> Hi Forest and SF
10:49:19 <KorbenC> Ryan, hey!
10:51:03 <Ryan(-3)> afternoon, KC
10:55:34 <Ryan(-3)> looking at SB backups and I just got really excited.
10:55:52 <Ryan(-3)> Weather is gonna be nice, lots of options.
11:00:03 <Ryan(-3)> thats a lot of steam from Splendid
11:00:47 <KorbenC> you sure your not just seeing Daisy>
11:01:35 <Ryan(-3)> yup
11:01:51 <Ryan(-3)> its either Splendid or a bigggg Comet
11:02:02 <Forestbewithyou> LOL
11:02:07 <JarnoO> -_-
11:02:33 <Ryan(-3)> Whatever it was made a lot of steam about the time Daisy started. Just to the left
11:02:36 <SantaFe108> nah, we just pushed OF on top of Daisy to see how you would react
11:02:47 <JarnoO> oh, like so
11:03:04 <KorbenC> more steam
11:03:11 <KorbenC> that was a big huff of thick steam there
11:03:22 <JarnoO> appears to be Comet. Splendid is the thin steam right of that
11:03:25 <JarnoO> left*
11:03:38 <Eric> Daisy with a side of comet?
11:03:43 <Ryan(-3)> ah ok
11:05:55 <ynpvisitor99> For a first Splendid you wouldn't see it with Daisy. Post 15 min or so maybe
11:06:33 <JarnoO> and even then you'll likely see a false start before it gets going
11:06:50 <Ryan(-3)> I just thought it was steam. :)
11:07:46 <ynpvisitor99> I'd like to see Daisy shorten up 40 min or so
11:07:57 <JarnoO> plus Daisy's durations aren't really to write home about. It's that this one did have a duration of ±3m49s, but otherwise they're closer to 3¼m and 3½m than 4m (after which it gets interesting)
11:11:15 <JarnoO> what does create some hope, is that Daisy's intervals are shortening. When Splendid was active in 1997, Daisy's intervals were around 1½h. After Splendid went back to sleep in October, they had increased to nearly 1h50m to 2h (which were also its intervals pre-Splendid)
11:15:55 <Ryan(-3)> ill tell ya what would give me hope: seeing YNM balloon...
11:23:00 <ynpvisitor99> There no water at SB per YVO this AM. Don't hold your breathe for YNM
11:24:16 <ynpvisitor99> What day do you get there R?
11:24:40 <Ryan(-3)> late Thursday evening. Leave on Tuesday
11:25:01 <Ryan(-3)> I may be able to finangle staying until Wednesday. But i think I will be there between SBs
11:25:26 <ynpvisitor99> Driving?
11:25:40 <Ryan(-3)> flying
11:26:17 <Ryan(-3)> everything is really relaxed with COVID, so changing flights may be possible. I am going to wait and see how SB is progressing first, but I may just call and ask tonight.
11:26:50 <Ryan(-3)> Loyalty status with Delta helps, too
11:27:06 <ynpvisitor99> At worst it would just be some cash to change
11:27:51 <JarnoO> Riverside
11:27:52 <Ryan(-3)> That is what I am thinking, and an extra day on the car rental. Flights got moved once already, I have Wednesday off from work as it is because of that.
11:28:25 <JarnoO> Whirligig is still looking good disturbance-wise. Lots of minors, no sign yet of longer ones
11:29:00 <Ryan(-3)> I think its just shifting to longer intervals, and deciding to screw me over in the process lol
11:29:36 <JarnoO> typical, isn't it
11:29:52 <Eric> riverside
11:30:03 <Eric> ahh, Jarno got it :-D
11:30:28 <JarnoO> OT joining the fun
11:35:13 <Eric> add avocado for extra awesome.
11:37:13 <KorbenC> School time, au revoir!
11:47:14 <Ryan(-3)> Per cb note it looks like SB is still basically dry at 4D15H
11:47:26 <Ryan(-3)> Good, drag it out....
11:48:23 <Eric> for like 3 or 4 weeks?
11:48:53 <Ryan(-3)> no just into Labor Day weekend lol
11:49:08 <Eric> :-P
11:51:17 <JarnoO> Grand
11:51:33 <Ryan(-3)> I was just about to say that things were looking hot....
11:52:22 <ynpvisitor99> Would like to hear a detailed report about the back basin
11:52:35 <Ryan(-3)> I think thats coming later today
11:52:44 <ynpvisitor99> Yes
11:52:57 <Ryan(-3)> A D wouldnt be too bad if it is hitting right now, that drags the interval out to roughly Labor Day itself
11:53:17 <Ryan(-3)> Assuming it follows the trend of doubling the interval
11:53:30 <JarnoO> you want a second Labor Day eruption?
11:53:51 <Ryan(-3)> I want to see it! :D
11:54:08 <Ryan(-3)> trumpet
11:54:12 <Ryan(-3)> I mean tuba
11:54:14 <ynpvisitor99> The first D in June 18 it had a super short prior and then those long intervals thru July and August
11:54:28 <Ryan(-3)> I mean bassoon
11:54:32 <Ryan(-3)> I mean bugler
11:54:36 <Ryan(-3)> I mean bulger!
11:59:21 <ynpvisitor99> "French Horn" is a major
12:00:01 <SantaFe108> man all these giantess posts on instagram causing the supervolcano conspiracy people to crawl out of the depths
12:00:22 <Bhoffer> lol
12:00:51 <JarnoO> they'd be going bonkers if Giantess enters an active phase like in the early 80s :P
12:01:08 <SantaFe108> JarnoO, thats what I told them
12:02:02 <ynpvisitor99> If you "professionals" would all stop hiding information....
12:03:29 <ynpvisitor99> I like the one here this AM who saidgeyser observation is "old man stuff"
12:04:00 <Eric> haha...I missed that 99 :-P
12:04:07 <Ryan(-3)> that encounter went much better than the one a few days ago
12:04:15 <Eric> Old woman stuff too :-P
12:04:17 <Eric> plus kids
12:04:34 <ynpvisitor99> You handled it a lot differently than the one I am thinking of went
12:05:05 <Ryan(-3)> That was the idea. :)
12:05:22 <ynpvisitor99> Well good job! Kudos.
12:05:29 <Ryan(-3)> MG is a lost cause, but her followers obviously can be swayed.
12:05:56 <SantaFe108> guess korben, forest, jarno and I are old men :p
12:06:05 <Ryan(-3)> If MG can do it, we can too. Not being condescending (what they expect) probably goes a long way.
12:06:09 <Eric> I added, plus kids :-P
12:06:25 <Ryan(-3)> If they find their way here, then they are curious. Thanks, 99!
12:06:30 <Eric> You and MG are like twinsies Ryan ;-P
12:06:31 <SantaFe108> Eric, I was talkign about the thing 99 was saying
12:07:43 <Ryan(-3)> Alright, I am off to the dental surgeon.
12:07:47 <Ryan(-3)> I should be back by 1400
12:07:52 <Ryan(-3)> if not, see yall tomorrow.
12:07:52 <Eric> yikes...good luck
12:08:04 <JarnoO> cya Ryan, good luck
12:08:12 <Bhoffer> cya, gl

12:09:52 <LindaG> Hello
12:10:03 <Katie> Hi Linda
12:10:09 <JarnoO> afternoon Linda
12:10:10 <LindaG> Katie, hi
12:10:16 <LindaG> JarnoO, hi
12:15:23 <JarnoO> SGF 1213
12:16:44 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Linda
12:16:52 <LindaG> Forestbewithyou, hi
12:17:50 <Craig M> Hello
12:17:56 <LindaG> Craig M, hi
12:18:10 <Craig M> 43 degrees! brr
12:18:18 <KorbenC(tablet)> LindaG, Craig M, hi
12:18:29 <LindaG> KorbenC(tablet), hi
12:18:33 <Forestbewithyou> 66.9 Here Just had some well needed rain move through
12:18:38 <ynpvisitor99> looks like Grotto now
12:18:39 <ynpvisitor73> LindaG, would you post a Giantess note yesterday of your discovery of Giantess was full with runoff
12:18:40 <Eric> Hi Craig
12:18:47 <ynpvisitor73> 06:04:54 ‹Betty› at least it looks like it has 06:05:21 ‹LindaG› It does look like it, the steam seems to be sitting in top 06:05:25 ‹LindaG› Go STEAMBOAT, hi 06:05:34 ‹LindaG› *on 06:06:11 ‹ynpvisitor83› steamy runoff 06:06:21 ‹LindaG› Yeah 06:06:29 ‹LindaG› Nice
12:18:48 <Eric> Hi Linda
12:19:02 <LindaG> ynpvisitor73, yes
12:19:05 <Eric> Wow...atomizer?
12:19:17 <Eric> big burst from behind the trees
12:19:57 <Eric> Thanks Linda...totally agree Giantess note would be good
12:21:14 <ynpvisitor99> 1217 Grotto start
12:21:47 <ynpvisitor99> That's a steamy mess down there
12:24:38 <Eric> Yep, SGF, GF, Grotto make for quite the steam clouds
12:24:58 <Eric> Humidity seems higher than 60%
12:25:10 <ynpvisitor99> plus V&T
12:25:25 <Eric> Yes, that C on Grand added to it
12:25:52 <Eric> Maybe Oblong will want to join in :-P
12:26:12 <SantaFe108> would be nice
12:26:33 <SantaFe108> reminds me of the cam on the morning of Giantess before we turned to face it
12:26:38 <JarnoO> there would've been a lot of steam from Grand anyway because V&T restart some time after a Q
12:27:11 <Eric> so is that GF or SGF with the large steam column?
12:27:21 <ynpvisitor99> How long since we looked at the Hill? been quite a while no?
12:28:07 <JarnoO> seems to be GF. SGF would be bursts of steam, not the constant steam we see here
12:28:17 <ynpvisitor99> prob GFtn
12:28:28 <Eric> Thanks Jarno & 99
12:28:47 <ynpvisitor99> SFtn not as tall
12:28:48 <Eric> Is arty going too?
12:29:01 <JarnoO> looks like it
12:29:14 <JarnoO> maybe not actually
12:29:24 <LindaG> Eric, hi
12:29:30 <ynpvisitor99> I don't think so
12:29:43 <Eric> ok
12:30:16 <ynpvisitor73> ynpvisitor99, last hill look 1043
12:30:42 <Eric> would be good to get a peak at the hill :-D
12:31:01 <Eric> Katie must be deep into something else :-D
12:31:06 <LindaG> Good news is giantess would be on static
12:31:35 <JarnoO> though behind a tree :/
12:31:48 <ynpvisitor73> do you want to peek at the peak of the hill? :)
12:32:10 <Katie> I was mesmerized by all that down basin steam.
12:32:49 <LindaG> I'm surprised no one saw it on static that day
12:32:56 <LindaG> It wasnhuge
12:33:29 <JarnoO> static skipped the 0904 frame, unfortunately
12:33:43 <Forestbewithyou> RIP
12:33:55 <ynpvisitor73> Eric showed Giantess static yesterday I think
12:33:55 <JarnoO> so by the time we got on the Hill, static still had to take the 0905 frame
12:35:22 <LindaG> ynpvisitor73, so we beat static to it
12:35:33 <LindaG> Not 73, jarno
12:35:56 <JarnoO> we did, Linda
12:37:01 <ynpvisitor73> Giantess shadow down basin was impressive
12:37:10 <LindaG> JarnoO, hehe 😄 we saw it pretty quickly, I'm only sorry I went looking for daisy. Would have been cool to catch the very start. Oh well
12:37:58 <Eric> Yep, bummer that we didn't catch it on the static...we were looking at giantess not too long before the eruption and it looked "normal"
12:37:59 <ynpvisitor99> we were able to see so much of it. So thankfully the cam behaved well
12:38:13 <Eric> Yes, agree 99!
12:38:15 <LindaG> ynpvisitor73, it was, it was suspenseful following it.
12:38:48 <ynpvisitor99> Cam was pretty smooth. Not jumpy like its been the last couple days
12:39:23 <LindaG> Eric, it did, 7 minutes before and it was not doing anything
12:39:52 <Eric> amazing what can happen in 7m :-D
12:40:16 <LindaG> Indeed 😊
12:42:47 <LindaG> OF
12:47:16 <Eric> vault is kicking up the steam
12:47:29 <Eric> Pump!
12:47:37 <Eric> Can we zoom vault?
12:48:51 <Katie> Just as I did, there was what looked like a spray out of Giantess so I moved and then back. Is this the view you want?
12:49:06 <Eric> yes, this is great
12:49:16 <Eric> something was kicking up the steam around giantess
12:49:36 <Eric> maybe just a giantess boil
12:50:05 <Eric> our first post-giantess behavior from the new webcam :-D All so exciting.
12:50:21 <JarnoO> it had some very good steam earlier today
12:50:46 <Eric> Man that runoff is so bleached!
12:51:24 <Bhoffer> It was awesome that the new webcam angle made giantess a pleasure to watch
12:51:30 <Eric> is that from new silica deposits or just killing/cleaning the bacteria mats?
12:51:45 <JarnoO> killing bacteria mats
12:51:45 <ynpvisitor42> Yes
12:51:50 <Eric> Yes, the new cam is perfect for Giantess observation
12:52:14 <JarnoO> everything that was yellow before the eruption is now white
12:52:22 <ynpvisitor42> And seeing Craig at mug
12:52:37 <Eric> Well, at least seeing mug :-P
12:53:45 <ynpvisitor42> 3c
12:54:16 <JarnoO> Dome
13:01:32 <Eric> haha
13:01:44 <Eric> We are staring at the hill
13:01:56 <JarnoO> Lion
13:01:57 <JarnoO> in
13:01:58 <JarnoO> i
13:09:46 <ynpvisitor42> So much steam from lion
13:10:17 <ynpvisitor63> Look at all those people enjoying summer in Yellowstone:D:D
13:14:05 <ynpvisitor11> Hopefully they don't get hit by a hot water eruption.
13:14:47 <JarnoO> big ol' Castle
13:14:57 <JarnoO> in steam already
13:15:30 <JarnoO> next Lion @ 1420±5m if series continues. 6m50s
13:15:53 <ynpvisitor42> Castle was called, not entered though
13:16:22 <ynpvisitor63> you mean on the radio?
13:16:41 <ynpvisitor42> Yes, on radio
13:16:44 <ynpvisitor63> many people still don't enter, even if they call it on the radio
13:18:03 <ynpvisitor42> Mug
13:20:21 <ynpvisitor42> Back out in the rain to see if rocket looks pissible
13:20:40 <ynpvisitor42> Or possible
13:23:05 <LindaG> That's a lot of steam
13:25:54 <Ryan(-3)> The mixed news is that the wisdom tooth is so badly impacted that they dont want to touch it and are taking the molar out next to it instead.
13:26:11 <Ryan(-3)> So instead of a risky, total sedation, surgery - its just a simple tooth extraction.
13:26:26 <LindaG> That's good
13:26:47 <Ryan(-3)> The wisdom tooth itself shouldnt be an issue for another few years - if ever.
13:26:54 <Eric> wow...thats a bummer about the wisdom tooth, but now I assume you will need a crown :-(
13:27:15 <Ryan(-3)> The dang filling in this molar keeps popping out from the pressure - if I didnt have a filling I wouldnt even know about it.
13:27:30 <Eric> guess not a crown, but a bridge
13:27:43 <Ryan(-3)> I think they just plan to pop the molar out and leave the gap in my gum there.
13:28:06 <Ryan(-3)> That way if the wisdom tooth does continue to move outwards it has somewhere to go and can be exposed if it needs to be removed.
13:28:29 <Eric> well good luck, teeth are a PITA when you get older.
13:28:47 <Ryan(-3)> Minus this annoying wisdom tooth, my teeth are really good.
13:28:53 <LindaG> I'll drink to that
13:29:07 <Ryan(-3)> Thankfully its not genetic, my dad's teeth are... uh.... not good.
13:29:17 <Eric> We just had our daughters all removed for that very reason.
13:29:33 <Eric> not all her teeth, her wisdom teeth :-P
13:29:40 <LindaG> Old tardy ie
13:29:42 <Eric> haha...noticed that was very vague of me
13:30:02 <LindaG> Already noticed
13:30:08 <Katie> I, genetically, never had wisdom teeth OR 12 year molars on the bottom.
13:31:00 <LindaG> I have the worst teeth on earth 😋
13:35:23 <Ryan(-3)> now im just back to nervously watching ynm lol
13:35:43 <Forestbewithyou> Sounds like me when we were driving out right on that 4 day interval
13:36:36 <Forestbewithyou> Then it erupted and we were sad
13:36:49 <Ryan(-3)> Sorry for Friday, Forest. I was.. extremely... stressed.
13:37:19 <Forestbewithyou> I can understand... I would have been as well if I was in your situation. Its ok I forgive you
13:37:54 <Ryan(-3)> Thanks. The house was still there.
13:38:03 <Forestbewithyou> well thats good :)
13:47:04 <Eric> William doesn't post arty pool notes anymore :-(
14:02:58 <ynpvisitor42> He's a jerk
14:03:37 <ynpvisitor42> Typo, *cool dude
14:04:18 <Ryan(-3)> alrighty, I am out for the day.
14:05:59 <Eric> :heart::heart::heart:
14:06:10 <SantaFe108> cya ryan
14:06:49 <JarnoO> cya Ryan
14:06:54 <Eric> Just noticed it Craig...he use to post them all the time, which was awesome.
14:15:06 <ynpvisitor109> How do i know whn to give up on possible Rocket
14:15:40 <JarnoO> uhm... maybe when Spa erupts?
14:16:22 <ynpvisitor99> it still should be a possibility at 2 hrs in
14:16:35 <Forestbewithyou> Yea but you are starting to get less and less likely I believe
14:17:18 <ynpvisitor109> Spa is slowly filling, bubbling from left vent
14:17:25 <KorbenC(tablet)> If it's still surging it could still go
14:18:10 <ynpvisitor109> No water from little lateral vent at base of rocket
14:19:48 <JarnoO> Lion up next
14:19:54 <JarnoO> if it didn't go already
14:20:10 <ynpvisitor109> JarnoO, how soon
14:20:30 <ynpvisitor109> No radio call
14:21:04 <ynpvisitor99> was anyone around and paying attention?
14:21:23 <JarnoO> 1420±5m
14:21:31 <ynpvisitor109> Energy dropped in grotto
14:21:35 <JarnoO> looks like Lion didn't go yet
14:23:00 <ynpvisitor109> A lady called last lion
14:23:30 <ynpvisitor109> Lion 1423
14:23:51 <ynpvisitor109> Frs, a dude
14:28:17 <ynpvisitor99> now how about an aurum
14:45:43 <Forestbewithyou> Hey Korben
14:45:52 <KorbenC> Hi Forest
14:46:03 <KorbenC> Good runoff push at Giantess
14:47:41 <ynpvisitor109> Is my duration correct on grotto?
14:48:07 <JarnoO> it is
14:48:27 <JarnoO> so Grotto quit without Rocket. Typical how it does that
14:48:31 <ynpvisitor109> Thanks, i forgot how to add
14:51:11 <Eric> Is that aurum steam?
14:51:27 <Eric> Getting colder in the basin as the day goes on!
14:51:35 <Eric> Pump!
14:51:51 <Eric> Humidity rising too
15:00:26 <JarnoO> Caldera Chronicles has an article about OF this time around: https://www.usgs.gov/center-news/story-a-yellowstone-icon-old-faithful-geyser
15:01:01 <JarnoO> also interesting that they note OF's intervals tend to be slightly shorter during the wetter years
15:01:07 <ynpvisitor99> JarnoO, Did you publish your Lion stuff?
15:01:24 <JarnoO> #99, still only on the Google Group
15:02:33 <ynpvisitor100> figures they'd feature the "only 2% of eruptions are shorts" tidbit the day it had five in one day
15:02:36 <Eric> Did they provide any data to back up that statement?
15:03:12 <ynpvisitor99> Thanks, I couldn't remember where I saw the discussion.
15:03:51 <JarnoO> need to get my stuff together to the point I'm happy with publication in the Sput
15:05:22 <ynpvisitor100> there a pair of Shaul Hurwitz papers, both getting to be a few years old, that tried to correlate geyser intervals with how wet the year was. It wasn't a spectacularly conclusive finding, but the papers can be found free online
15:06:07 <JarnoO> for that Lion article it would include a more accurate duration vs. predicted interval curve and overall some nicer graphics. Those of Excel are decent, but I find them ugly
15:08:06 <ynpvisitor99> Maybe for the next Transactions?
15:09:22 <JarnoO> I could actually shoot for that as well
15:10:35 <Eric> Thanks 100, I was just reviewing them :-D
15:15:43 <KorbenC> OK, done with school and done with homework :)
15:15:51 <Forestbewithyou> nice
15:16:22 <ynpvisitor99> Transaction article would be great! you should contact Tara about that.
15:17:07 <Eric> Snowman on Washburn!!!!
15:17:16 <Eric> holy cow...temp really did drop!
15:17:23 <JarnoO> #99, noted
15:17:24 <KorbenC> WOHOHOOHOHOHOHHOHO!
15:17:44 <KorbenC> sorry, but I LOVE that snowman :)
15:18:02 <ynpvisitor109> Daisy
15:18:14 <KorbenC> Hi Craig.
15:18:14 <Eric> He had a carrot nose and eyes in the past...haven't seen that for a while.
15:18:47 <ynpvisitor100> does this mean there is a rumor a new transactions is in progress? or just that tara is young enough we may see another issue in her lifetime?
15:18:49 <Eric> Daughter is almost done with her first day of college classes too :-D
15:18:58 <Eric> haha
15:19:46 <Eric> When was the last transactions?
15:19:56 <JarnoO> 2016 if I recall correctly
15:20:11 <ynpvisitor100> yup
15:20:54 <ynpvisitor100> with a rumor they'd be much easier to make frequently if they were all-electronic
15:21:33 <ynpvisitor99> They need submissions to happen.
15:22:01 <Eric> Yes, I can imagine articles are the largest hurdle
15:22:34 <JarnoO> 2016 volume was also a short compared with previous ones
15:22:54 <Eric> Do transactions also list any geyser related scientific articles that were published since the last transactions?
15:23:11 <Eric> It would be nice to have a bibliography of geyser research.
15:23:14 <LindaG> Oh the snowman is out! Yay
15:23:32 <ynpvisitor100> they havent in the past, but if someone assembled a bibliography I bet they'd accept it as a review article - or post it on the site to be updated regularly
15:23:36 <Eric> I guess that is what the geyser wiki needs to add :-P
15:23:44 <JarnoO> I haven't seen such a list, Eric
15:24:09 <ynpvisitor100> several folks have partial lists but Ive not seen an attempt to merge them and keep them centrally
15:24:11 <JarnoO> Dome 59m interval ns-exact
15:24:17 <Eric> Good call 100, a summary article that brings together research.
15:24:34 <JarnoO> likely nearing end of series
15:25:46 <JarnoO> Korben, TD Fifteen offshore Carolinas forecast 40kt max
15:26:22 <KorbenC> thx Jarno, im OK with alot of those kind of TS's
15:26:44 <KorbenC> because I would enjoy it getting to Alpha, Beta :)
15:26:55 <ynpvisitor99> sounds like a project for someone. Submit a proposal if you're motivated.
15:26:59 <ynpvisitor100> careful what you wish for!
15:27:07 <JarnoO> about that... They can become fairly vigorous European windstorms later in their lives...
15:28:14 <JarnoO> and it's not fun to bike against gusts ranging between 45 to 60mph...
15:28:31 <JarnoO> not that that happens often, but it has happened
15:28:55 <KorbenC> well, hopefully that one goes Kaput
15:29:06 <Eric> lion?
15:29:10 <JarnoO> roar
15:29:26 <Eric> all bark, no bite!
15:29:50 <JarnoO> first good one I've seen thusfar
15:29:58 <JarnoO> might be end of series
15:30:15 <JarnoO> that is, if it doesn't quickly get its act together
15:32:40 <JarnoO> I'm actually off for today. School starts tomorrow. Enjoy Lion and Giantess boiling away
15:32:48 <Forestbewithyou> Bye Jarno
15:32:51 <Forestbewithyou> Good luck with school
15:33:00 <GO STEAMBOAT> hello ...... did I miss anything?
15:33:09 <KorbenC> Bye Jarno, good luck with school!
15:33:10 <ynpvisitor100> if its all the same to you, Id prefer more than just boiling
15:33:17 <KorbenC> good BH splash
15:33:23 <KorbenC> really good BH splash
15:33:26 <KorbenC> can we zoom in?
15:33:31 <KorbenC> INDY?
15:33:35 <GO STEAMBOAT> 100 - if it boils, it erupts doesnt it
15:33:47 <KorbenC> HI GS
15:34:17 <GO STEAMBOAT> i see we are in fall gazing conditions already
15:34:33 <GO STEAMBOAT> 39 ... brr
15:34:58 <GO STEAMBOAT> did I miss the snow? teton pass looked interesting
15:35:27 <ynpvisitor99> roar
15:35:29 <GO STEAMBOAT> F&M and NG, wow good day
15:35:31 <ynpvisitor100> been watching lioness boil all my life and not seen it erupt yet :)
15:35:33 <GO STEAMBOAT> now we need BH
15:35:37 <GO STEAMBOAT> and Bh
15:36:52 <GO STEAMBOAT> oh, haha, I thought youwere taking about Giantess, not Lioness
15:37:24 <ynpvisitor100> I am not so greedy as to expect giantess twice in one week
15:37:55 <GO STEAMBOAT> just Lioness instead? haha
15:38:15 <ynpvisitor100> see how easy to please I am?
15:39:12 <GO STEAMBOAT> just get used to the ladies rejecting you
15:39:45 <ynpvisitor100> oh I got used to that before the end of high school, and have an admirable record of consistency across the decades now
15:41:09 <ynpvisitor99> about 68 years since Lioness erupted
15:41:16 <GO STEAMBOAT> :)
15:41:39 <GO STEAMBOAT> wasnt there a bg cub eruption about 2000?
15:41:46 <ynpvisitor99> 1998
15:41:54 <ynpvisitor99> October
15:42:06 <GO STEAMBOAT> and Twin that year, sigh
15:42:22 <ynpvisitor99> They come, they go
15:43:25 <Betty> afternoon all
15:43:29 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Betty
15:43:31 <KorbenC> Betty, hey!
15:43:35 <GO STEAMBOAT> maybe we will get something exciting to erupt this year for a change
15:43:48 <Eric> Hi Betty & GS
15:43:49 <ynpvisitor100> big cub has made me look at my watch a few times, when its poured out a bucketful of water
15:43:58 <Betty> hi Forestbewithyou, KorbenC, GO STEAMBOAT, Eric
15:43:58 <ynpvisitor100> but never made me write down the time yet
15:44:13 <GO STEAMBOAT> hi Betty
15:44:19 <ynpvisitor109> Lots of roars
15:45:12 <ynpvisitor109> Feels like October today
15:45:18 <ynpvisitor99> Giantess was pretty exciting. And so far we still have SB. F&M came back. But the super rare? Wouldn't be approriatefor 2020 unless noone could be in the Park
15:46:37 <KorbenC> June 9th 20:47:58, (per my geyser notes) WOW, lots of water from Big Cub at this time, sustained above cone for 3 seconds and produced some runoff.
15:46:39 <Katiev3> I'm not insane or changing my name for no reason. I keep having to switch devices. I think I'm "stable" now.
15:46:46 <Betty> I´m happy with F&M and Giantess back. not to forget North Goggle
15:46:48 <ynpvisitor100> there are plenty of us watching from afar who would be in the park in a normal year :p
15:47:06 <Betty> hi Katiev3
15:47:06 <ynpvisitor99> Too true 100
15:47:11 <Eric> True that 100
15:47:28 <Eric> 2 weeks of reservations cancelled for me :-(
15:47:34 <LindaG> Betty, hi
15:47:41 <Betty> hi LindaG
15:47:48 <LindaG> Eric, where?
15:47:53 <Betty> Eric, ask me! :-(
15:47:53 <Eric> They will probably up their rates for next year to make up for it.
15:48:11 <GO STEAMBOAT> book now before they do it
15:48:17 <Eric> I had a 2 weeks booked in Lodge Cabins
15:48:20 <GO STEAMBOAT> oh wait, I already did
15:48:24 <Eric> True GS
15:48:27 <Eric> OF
15:48:51 <Eric> Stuttering explosion of water
15:49:36 <LindaG> Eric, why were they cancelled?
15:49:44 <GO STEAMBOAT> i hope SB isnt messing with Ryans schedule......maybe F&M will get in gear
15:49:44 <Eric> Covid
15:50:06 <Eric> First one because nothing was open, second because it had shared Bathroom
15:50:07 <LindaG> 😕
15:50:51 <Eric> I would have cancelled them if xanterra had not anyway.
15:50:53 <GO STEAMBOAT> i did look back at 2007 after the last year dormancy and it came back fairly after its frst long interval, bunch of intervals under 10 days and then some under 3
15:51:07 <KorbenC> mine for this year got booked, then canclled by us, then auto rebooked by Xantera and then auto canceled, and the rebooked all thx to Graham :D The day before on the drive up we were going "at 600AM tommorow I bet their gonna close"
15:51:55 <GO STEAMBOAT> it sounds like they have done well with their protective measure
15:52:03 <Eric> I might camp in the backcountry this fall still....TBD
15:52:12 <GO STEAMBOAT> and opened more lodging, didnt more campgrounds open too?
15:52:13 <Katiev3> I had a customer with a PITA router that took 2 Old Faithfuls to configure. I measure time in Old Faithfuls on Mondays.
15:52:22 <Eric> haha
15:52:36 <Eric> Charge by the OF
15:52:45 <Eric> $150/OF
15:52:49 <GO STEAMBOAT> thats good. i compare times to turban intervalssometimes so 20min waits dont seem so bad
15:52:58 <ynpvisitor100> campgrounds still closed. I might have taken my chances camping if I could have
15:53:16 <ynpvisitor100> not many options for the little people who go to the cheap campgrounds or the cabins without bath this year
15:53:16 <Eric> Camping with RV should have been pretty sane.
15:53:23 <GO STEAMBOAT> i thought i saw an announcement they were opening more
15:53:26 <Eric> Yep, agree 100
15:53:48 <Eric> I might still try to get down to shoshone before snow hits.
15:53:49 <GO STEAMBOAT> it was probably staffing the campgrounds
15:53:51 <ynpvisitor100> I am lacking two letters of the that "with RV" thing
15:54:13 <Eric> no bugs and pretty dry still.
15:54:20 <GO STEAMBOAT> if they open the trails too
15:54:32 <GO STEAMBOAT> is fire closure over?
15:54:34 <Eric> Yep, that is a factor GS :-D
15:54:44 <GO STEAMBOAT> hopefully this weather is heping
15:54:45 <Eric> no...they show it taking until 10/30!!!
15:54:48 <ynpvisitor99> Lone Star Trail not likely to reopen this year
15:55:08 <Eric> Which is silly since it's a long ways away
15:55:24 <Eric> Glad Craig made it up there a bunch
15:55:38 <Katiev3> The customer was an NPS ranger (Yosemite). No charge.
15:55:50 <ynpvisitor99> That's just what I heard. And we are talking about the NPS
15:56:02 <Katiev3> (new customer - no charger for router config anyway - and the issue wasn't his fault)
15:56:02 <GO STEAMBOAT> no OF post on GT?
15:56:04 <Eric> Yes, I can believe it 99
15:56:12 <ynpvisitor100> shoshone basin still closed even if you walk in from the south. SOME chance that a few more sites and the basin might open later, but I doubt the lone star access will
15:57:08 <Eric> That is a bummer 100
15:57:19 <Eric> oh well, shoshone will be there next year
15:57:19 <Betty> Giantess is steamy
15:57:51 <ynpvisitor99> Anyone seen a fire update for today?
15:58:08 <LindaG> Betty, I was just thinking the same thing
15:58:19 <ynpvisitor100> there was one at ~10 this morning, said it was cool and rainy today
15:59:00 <GO STEAMBOAT> no Aurum eruptions today?
15:59:04 <Eric> I know they had a spot fire south over the weekend...haven't heard much since.
15:59:21 <Eric> Wind and steam have made it hard to see GS
15:59:52 <ynpvisitor99> And the cam was on down basin for almost 2 hours at one point
16:00:03 <ynpvisitor100> https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/7077/54543/
16:00:21 <ynpvisitor99> Thanks 100. Just checked it
16:01:12 <ynpvisitor99> I think the Baileys have been on the Hill a good part of the day but you can't see Aurum very well from BH
16:01:16 <GO STEAMBOAT> tie to work?
16:01:20 <GO STEAMBOAT> or time
16:01:58 <GO STEAMBOAT> they do like their Bh
16:02:06 <ynpvisitor99> Yes they do
16:03:34 <Betty> nice to see thhe otters are still around the hill
16:04:11 <GO STEAMBOAT> do I get the night off?
16:04:22 <GO STEAMBOAT> in preparation for the next 2 weeks?
16:04:40 <LindaG> She might in a meeting or something
16:04:45 <Katiev3> I can't believe its 4:00 already!
16:04:46 <ynpvisitor99> This came up yesterday or the day before but Beehive - BH or Bh. And then what is Bulger's Hole shortened up? The map links for both forms go to the same map view na dneither has Bulger's Hole in the view.
16:05:43 <GO STEAMBOAT> looks like winter steam at Doublet
16:08:54 <GO STEAMBOAT> turban?
16:09:18 <GO STEAMBOAT> Craig still at TB
16:10:00 <Eric> B=>O is Bulgers HOle
16:10:09 <Eric> or just B-O
16:10:26 <ynpvisitor99> no map link?
16:10:40 <GO STEAMBOAT> who uses the map link anyway?
16:10:50 <ynpvisitor99> I don
16:10:58 <LindaG> I do too
16:10:59 <ynpvisitor99> 'T know
16:11:00 <GO STEAMBOAT> t least for the well known geysers
16:11:14 <ynpvisitor100> the map link for bulgers hole written out goes to the right place, or at least goes to bulger, no?
16:11:29 <ynpvisitor99> It came up as an argument for BH vs Bh
16:12:03 <Kat> I use it occasionally
16:12:04 <ynpvisitor100> if it were my database I wouldnt want the shortcuts to be case sensitive (it isnt, of course)
16:12:09 <ynpvisitor99> Just to be clear I don't know who uses them GS
16:13:30 <Eric> I can't remember where I added the functionality to add the geyser links :-P
16:13:43 <ynpvisitor99> LOL
16:14:50 <Eric> there are like 30 different ways to hook into this chat
16:15:29 <GO STEAMBOAT> its god to have the, not gsure I need it for Bh or BH
16:17:08 <ynpvisitor100> If anything Id rather it opened the main GT page for the geyser, and take an extra two clicks to get the map. But thats probably different according to whether you are new in chat or not
16:17:52 <ynpvisitor99> I'd like the direct to GT link
16:19:20 <ynpvisitor99> Just keep it dark web though. :p
16:19:41 <GO STEAMBOAT> its on the classified page
16:19:56 <ynpvisitor101> too bad it cannot be this cold for Labor Day weekend
16:20:26 <ynpvisitor100> we have a classifieds page? single white fumarole seeks...
16:20:33 <GO STEAMBOAT> LD weekend forecast looks good to me
16:24:26 <GO STEAMBOAT> B
16:25:41 <ynpvisitor99> chuckling GS
16:26:46 <Eric> B-O
16:27:04 <Eric> B-O
16:27:33 <GO STEAMBOAT> i dont see H
16:27:43 <ynpvisitor99> me either
16:28:05 <Eric> sorry, I was testing :-P
16:28:09 <Forestbewithyou> ok that was weird
16:28:27 <Eric> Bulger's Hole
16:28:28 <ynpvisitor100> someone needs a geyser shower
16:28:30 <Forestbewithyou> somehow someway my chat page just closed for no apparent reason
16:28:58 <Eric> I crashed it with my BO
16:29:18 <Forestbewithyou> No I think I accidentally hit some funny keys
16:29:23 <ynpvisitor99> like 100 said
16:30:12 <Forestbewithyou> Hi Kevin
16:30:23 <Betty> hi Potato Kevin
16:30:28 <ynpvisitor81> Artemisia over the hill
16:30:33 <Betty> made it to Idaho?
16:31:01 <Kevin L™️ > Yep
16:31:19 <GO STEAMBOAT> I thin Artie would bemuch bigger today
16:31:21 <Kevin L™️ > No Aurum?
16:31:36 <Eric> identify frogger
16:31:41 <Betty> iitt prepares for your visit
16:31:41 <GO STEAMBOAT> its waiting for you tmorrow Kevin
16:32:00 <ynpvisitor81> looks like it is blowing sideways also
16:32:09 <Kevin L™️ > Actually Wednesday through Friday.
16:32:29 <Betty> nice
16:33:10 <LindaG> Kevin L™️ 🥔, loop is still smoky
16:33:15 <GO STEAMBOAT> well hope fully it will remmeber to erupt for you Wed
16:33:47 <GO STEAMBOAT> at least you didnt have to deal with these frigid conditions in the basin today Kevin
16:33:52 <Kevin L™️ > Unless I freeze first.
16:34:40 <LindaG> Kevin L™️ 🥔, snowman on washburn
16:35:28 <Betty> ughhhh, did not see that :-) pretty one :-D
16:36:16 <Eric> Alright, page refresh will now link geysers to their main page and also make B-O link to bugler's hole
16:37:02 <LindaG> Eric, thank you
16:37:10 <ynpvisitor100> testing: B-O
16:37:32 <Eric> There, now it is set in stone if you want to link B-O
16:37:59 <ynpvisitor100> hm, nothing changed... must have something stuck in a cache
16:38:06 <LindaG> Teton pass has a dusting of snow
16:38:28 <Eric> Yes, the geyser dictionary could be stuck for you 100
16:38:59 <ynpvisitor100> matter if I am logged in to the non-chat side of gt or not?
16:39:08 <Eric> nope
16:39:23 <Betty> b-o
16:39:34 <Betty> B-O
16:39:39 <Betty> nope
16:39:47 <LindaG> Let's not get personal
16:40:04 <LindaG> 😊
16:40:13 <Eric> haha
16:40:17 <ynpvisitor81> so now we have Bulger's Hole, Bh, BH, B-0
16:40:28 <Eric> I cache busted the old dictionary, it should work on simple refresh now
16:40:52 <Betty> yep
16:40:53 <Eric> yes, but bh, BH, Bh, bH all stand for Beehive :-D
16:40:54 <ynpvisitor100> B-0 feels like it should be next to A-0, opposite direction from A-1 and A-2... maybe that ugly brown pool
16:41:00 <Betty> works
16:41:17 <Eric> ok, you can also use B=>O
16:41:24 <Eric> ahh, that didn't link
16:41:27 <Eric> bummer
16:41:52 <ynpvisitor100> B-O link is working now - still points to map
16:42:19 <Eric> haha...you have serious caching going on
16:42:26 <LindaG> Daisy?
16:42:33 <LindaG> Nope
16:42:39 <KorbenC> Doesnt look like it Linda
16:42:47 <Eric> holding down shift key and hitting refresh should fix the issue
16:43:42 <ynpvisitor100> whole bunch of reloads and refreshes, from the toolbar, from rightclicking, etc. I may be your first Vivaldi tester - though I'd expect it to work almost the same as chrome
16:44:19 <KorbenC> can we peak at Beehive?
16:44:44 <Betty> peek, Korben
16:44:50 <KorbenC> I know I know
16:45:00 <Betty> tststs
16:45:10 <LindaG> 😃
16:45:16 <KorbenC> hey, we had to write using that word in my classes today, I got them all right :)
16:45:23 <KorbenC> Maybe thats because Linda wasnt there :)
16:45:40 <LindaG> 😋
16:45:52 <ynpvisitor81> he also has an issue with the word YOU, usually types OYU
16:45:55 <ynpvisitor100> a quick help search says ctrl-f5 is needed to force a hard reload in vivaldi - and it worked
16:46:32 <ynpvisitor100> learn something new every day
16:46:33 <KorbenC> what are some other ones, I know you are you and you are you you you, but I always seem to type dotn instead of dotn
16:46:36 <ynpvisitor100> and forget 2 or 3 other things
16:46:37 <KorbenC> dont**
16:46:44 <GO STEAMBOAT> D?
16:47:14 <Eric> Well, Vivaldi is over caching apparently :-D
16:47:36 <ynpvisitor81> you mean don't
16:48:11 <Eric> Glad it worked 100
16:48:12 <ynpvisitor81> that's called Dome Geyser Graham
16:49:04 <Eric> I think he meant the big D
16:49:14 <LindaG> This day is an preview of all the steam to come during winter
16:49:24 <ynpvisitor81> we need colder weather to get rid of bugs
16:49:44 <Eric> Will be interested to see the constant logger tomorrow
16:49:49 <LindaG> Dome bugs 😊
16:49:57 <KorbenC> why do we think there could be a D?
16:50:04 <Eric> anyone read the porkchop tea leaves yet?
16:50:17 <ynpvisitor81> you mean Disturbance at Norris?
16:50:25 <KorbenC> Its not that abnormal for 4d post eruptive return of water for SB
16:50:34 <KorbenC> dont use the word 81!
16:50:44 <ynpvisitor100> well D can cause ledge to go into a steam phase for no apparent reason, and it has... but its not the only thing that can make ledge go weird
16:50:49 <ynpvisitor81> why are you afraid?
16:50:54 <Forestbewithyou> 81 Its like harry potter
16:51:05 <Forestbewithyou> and he who shall not be named LMAO
16:51:08 <KorbenC> ynpvisitor81, shs, as long a SB is going D's are terrible!
16:51:23 <ynpvisitor81> Ledge has been in steamphase off and on all summer and last summer
16:51:24 <GO STEAMBOAT> ledge has been in and out of steam phase with no D
16:51:28 <KorbenC> Do not speak of those evil things :)
16:51:54 <GO STEAMBOAT> SB is in control of the D .. and has killed them
16:52:02 <KorbenC> 100, its been in a steam phase like that for a while, with a few real eruptions
16:52:30 <ynpvisitor81> I saw Steamboat after a Disturbance
16:52:31 <GO STEAMBOAT> nobdy has seen water phase tho
16:52:40 <KorbenC> like somewhere on the 8th through 14th at about 10AM of June which had a small water phase
16:52:41 <GO STEAMBOAT> at leats asfar as I know this year
16:53:14 <ynpvisitor100> I personally suspect SB of being the cause of the spring Ds... in a normal year that big mixing-of-the-2-water-sources seems to happen after the water table drops.
16:53:20 <KorbenC> GS, there was a water phase, sent water about 75ft tall for about 5 minutes, IDK if id call it an eruption, but people told me to enter it as such
16:53:24 <ynpvisitor100> Am working on the theory that SB is draining something sooner than usual
16:53:44 <KorbenC> becuase it started after a pause of about 5 minutes while I was at Constant, and then it restarted
16:54:04 <Betty> Ear spring is splashy
16:54:44 <ynpvisitor81> time to go enjoy the cool weather
16:55:22 <GO STEAMBOAT> your note 9th says it was in steam and then went to water. it does cycle now
16:55:27 <ynpvisitor100> trying to think of anything 75 feet high and 5 minutes long that I WOULDNT call an eruption. Driveby from king kong maybe
16:55:39 <GO STEAMBOAT> but i can believe it does a range of things now
16:55:58 <GO STEAMBOAT> its pretty much in a continuously active phase now
16:56:08 <KorbenC> well, thats why I entered it, but IDK how to call it, it was an eruption within a steamphase, and im no expert :)
16:56:19 <GO STEAMBOAT> not going through a recovery cycle and then starting with water
16:57:06 <GO STEAMBOAT> was it seam forced with roaring when it was putting out water, or just water?
16:58:50 <KorbenC> uhm, it was in strong steam, then it roared louder than ive ever heard it, then it paused for a few minutes, and then it splashed a bit for a minute, and then a huge jet to 75ft just never stopped, and then it went back into steam about 5m inutes later
16:59:32 <KorbenC> but the vent to the side in the white cone which I forget the name of went into forced steam during the start
17:00:09 <GO STEAMBOAT> ok, thanks or the info
17:00:12 <KorbenC> It had a nice geyser rainbow and soaked me to the bone on the BW when I ran up after it paused
17:00:23 <KorbenC> what would you call it?
17:00:44 <ynpvisitor100> sounds about as waterphasey as it gets. Ive not seen the white vent and the tiny perforations go to 100% water rather than forced steam
17:00:55 <KorbenC> I know it was in the morning around 10AM, I forget on which day though
17:01:05 <GO STEAMBOAT> both major vents are now white so its hard to tell...the uphill one thats a slit on the flattish sinter area is the old White, and the round one to the right is the red (now white) vent, called Tube historically per MA
17:01:51 <KorbenC> red vent was in water then, and White was in steamphase, but they both paused
17:01:52 <GO STEAMBOAT> it was cycling in and out of noisy raging steam phase when i was there
17:01:57 <ynpvisitor100> I suppose it would have been the index finger, when the thumb still existed
17:02:19 <KorbenC> so GS, that waas an eruption?
17:05:27 <GO STEAMBOAT> B
17:05:38 <KorbenC> B?
17:05:58 <GO STEAMBOAT> sounds like it, but unlike eruptions of the past
17:06:43 <KorbenC> huh, I have pictures of it in water phase, even though everything is crowded in steam and water becuase it was raining geyser :p
17:07:44 <GO STEAMBOAT> turban?
17:08:04 <KorbenC> can we look again at Bee when we get a chance?
17:08:49 <GO STEAMBOAT> may get Daisy, although it will wait for OF window
17:09:22 <GO STEAMBOAT> i figure we wil her if BhI goes
17:09:32 <GO STEAMBOAT> or hear

17:12:21 <ynpvisitor100> I better not tell anyone when I go to the park unless I want spied on :)
